Wow what a hidden gem! Tucked away in a shopping center with dark tinted glass that appears almost closed...we found Massimo's! Our waiter "B" made our experience absolutely delightful. He goes above and beyond to make sure you are never without. The menu already looked delicious, but then when we heard about the specials, we just couldn't decide. My husband started with the lobster bisque, which he thought was amazing! I ordered the swordfish special, which as a swordfish connoisseur, I found to be the VERY BEST I HAVE EVER HAD!!! Steaky but not tough, in a slightly spicy sauce over garlic mashed and baby vegetables. (Not just your ordinary vegetables either) My husband had the seafood risotto with huge pieces of crab, diver scallops and shrimp. Our dirty martinis were prepared perfect and we were pleased to find they offered Flowers, one of our favorite Pinot Noir's. You cannot go wrong with anything here! I had the pleasure of dining at Massimo's on March 1, 2013 and am only sorry that I didn't sit down and write this review sooner. I am a foodie and have a deep appreciation for good food. I eat in NYC often and am usually dining on a tasting menu so I can sample as much as possible. This night in particular I wasn't extremely hungry but wanted good food with some good friends. I had read the reviews on this place from Yelp and it seemed impressive. I was NOT disappointed! I had the Carpaccio di Manzo to start. The meat was sliced thin and SO tender, but the shining light of this dish was the lemon-truffle vinaigrette. After one bite I was in heaven and actually moaned while eating it. As I wasn't very hungry instead of having a dinner course, I just went for another appetizer and selected the Fois Gras on toast points. Once again the dish was outstanding and even the tiny pearl onions that Chef had added as what seemed to be a garnish actually added a bright citrus flavor that rounded out the dish perfectly. I have to admit I was pretty verbal about my approval of that dish as well and by this time had told the chef's wife that I loved her husband. I think they found me pretty amusing as the chef came out to say Hi and told me he was whipping the cream for my dessert, his Tiramisu. I don't usually eat dessert (I'm a savory person, not sweet), but when I do Tiramisu is my favorite. Chef's rendition was by far the best I've ever had and the cream was so fresh I wouldn't be surprised if he really had just made it! On top of having such a fabulous meal I also want to comment on how wonderful the service was. The waitress was attentive, made killer martinis, and was a pleasure to talk to. The staff, chef, and his wife made us feel like we were in their home instead of at a restaurant. Great Italian cuisine! Set back in a plaza off 19... very non-descript, Intimate atmosphere and comfort! Staff was welcoming and very attentive! Wine options are great! Had the meat/cheese plate for appetizer, followed by the warm duck salad which was yummy and then had the special seafood risotto! And the bread is delicious! Wow was really pleased with it all!!! We were at Massimo's tonight for our first time. We went with another couple and this place was fabulous. The food was top notch and presented perfectly. I had the veal with the seafood topping and ate every last bite. Massimo came by to say hello and we talked about the risotto, which our guest wanted but did not order. He, so kindly, went back to the kitchen and made a small batch and gave us all a sample. It was spectacular and a must have for next time. Thank you to Michelle, our excellent server. The waitress was in such a hurry and tried to rush us, not enjoyable. We asked for a little side of fresh garlic and she announced it would be $2.00 extra, for the price of the food I found that to be beyond rude. It spoiled the entire evening. Exceptional wine list that has many offerings to match the excellent food choices. Sauces with appetizers & entrees were exceptional. Veal w/Cognac sauce excelled. Jennifer offered excellent service. As concierge of a 4 Star Resort in the Palm Harbor region, I find it very difficult to send VIPs to incredible top notch dinning experiences. This side of the bay is simply, much more casual. However, after researching where I could send my guests that are looking for Burns style dinning, I came across Massimo's. I had to try it for myself, of course. After last night's dinning experience I will 100% send all VIPs and guests to Massimo's. Firstly, the welcome was just perfect. It was pure in sentiment and joyous. As we sat down for a casual setting at the bar, Jennifer the bar tender was wonderful. Offering her favorites along with the evening's specials, one better than the next. If I wasn't cleansing I would have had Jennifer pick one of the 2500+ bottles!!!! We started with the Truffle Pate...ah to die for! I could simply have eaten this all night and been completely satisfied. Rice flower calamari, up next...AMAZING! The ginger dip was completely unexpected and so perfect. A welcomed gluten-free option. As we waited for our mail course, chef had us taste a beautiful tuna sushi with a twist, a watermelon base, cucumber middle, perfectly fresh tuna, topped with a candied ginger sliver. Yes! Candy Ginger! The accompanying dipping sauce were unique and paired perfectly. It was again a delight surprise; refreshing to the pallet. Finally, we had the chef make us one of his favorites, Veal Scallopini. Veal Scallopini, like I've never had before. The butter knife slide through the veal as if it was indeed butter. The sauce accented the meat beautifully. The veggables cooked just right. Savoring every bite, I knew I had finally found the place, the 'it spot' in Palm Harbor. Already booked our next visit. I would give this divine Italian Eatery 10 stars if I could! It is so pretty and romantic inside, (don't be fooled by the unassuming entrance), and we have had the supreme pleasure of having Bertrand as our server twice now. He is so knowledgeable, warm, and pleasant, we would have ordered everything on the menu... he made it all sound so good! My husband and I came alone the first time, then had to bring our family back ASAP because the food was so delectable. I began with the Warm Duck Salad, and my husband had the Caesar with white anchovies and both were wonderful. I picked the Veal with Lobster and Crabmeat, and my husband had the Veal Massimo and again, they were scrumptious. With the family we entered Chef Massimo Heaven with the Penne a la Vodka for all of us, Osso Bucco, and the Veal once again. We have dinned all over NYC and this is the most authentic Italian Cuisine we have had anywhere in this area. I took my husband here for his birthday. The service was absolutely wonderful!!!!!!!! The drinks were superb and the food excellent. I had the duck l'orange and my husband had the veal with lobster and crab Au gratin. DELICIOUS!!!!! Massimo's is what all fine dining should be like. Will definitely go back again!!! read more

Food is pricey and very small portions. I had appetizer, soup, salad, entree and dessert and left hungry. I'm not a big eater. We won't go there any more with ignorant people taking their small children who scream and cry and ruin the ambiance. One lady was walking her screaming two year old around the entire restaurant for about an hour and management did nothing.Get a babysitter for cripes sakes! I stumbled across Massimo's while on vacation, and without a doubt ; it was one of the best meals i've had, for a great price. The professional staff works tiresly to make sure you're taken care of; without "overworking" the table. The wine list is outstanding. while honestly I did not have wine with dinner. Numerous accolades on the walls serve as a reminder that Massimo knows what he is doing. All in all it was a great experience. The lighting is dim, however this is perfect for a date or even eating alone. Last thing, the natural feel of the place does lead/ force you to slow things down a bit, turn off your phone and just relax. which is a rarirty in our times! You won't be let down, enjoy. read more

Mr. Massimo you acted badly , no other chef in the world would have been as rude as you were, you offered nothing else to my wife to eat , you never apologized , you probably have not checked the internal temperature of your food in ages you assume that if the outside is steamy the inside is hot but most chefs know this is not the truth and will check the temp with a prob, Do yourself a favor and heat a piece of your lasagna up as you did for my wife then sit down cut it open and take a bite and when you realize that the inside temp is at 90 while the outside is roughly 107 you'll know what I mean. And while at the table there was no music playing so I put on my own dinner music and the waitress could at any time pleasantly asked me to turn it off once you turned on your music but this never happened, You acted lethargic and rude so I have no other choice but to think you had too much to drink your actions spoke for you. read more
