I really wanted to like Sparta because it's in close proximity, but after giving it two chances, I can't solidify going back. On my first visit, I ordered the mix & match gyros and specifically requested no onions because I have an onion allergy. The receipt even said "no onions," but when I got home, both gyros had onions on them. Lacked flavor. I decided to give them another chance and ordered two burgers. Unfortunately, they were just as bad. The burgers were bland, had almost no seasoning or flavor, and didn't taste fresh. They also weren't very warm by the time I got home, so I had to reheat them in the microwave. I don't mind giving a restaurant a second chance, but after two disappointing experiences, I just can't recommend it. The food lacked flavor, and the mistake with my allergy request makes it hard for me to trust them with future orders. Front staff also bland, no smiles, no politeness. I had a takeout order from Sparta Seafood recently. I ordered a Gyro and a Fish Sandwich. The Gyro was quite good, loaded with meat and I had tzatziki and lettuce added to it. Nice flavor and a good value for $10. The fish was basa, had lettuce, tomato, onion and pickle on it, and was fresh and delicious. The food was ready when I arrived and the interaction with the staff was brief but friendly. Overall I thought this was a pretty good meal and I will return to try some of the other dishes on their menu. I'd give this a 3 1/2 stars. read more

Ordered chicken sandwiches on Uber Eats. The size of the chicken was small and there was one tiny tomato and a couple of thin pickles. This would be something I'd expect from McDonald's but not for a $14 sandwich. I ordered the grilled chicken and rice bowl also. It wasn't bad but it was very bland. Definitely wasn't worth $20. Excellent gyros and sides. We had the original gyro with the side of black beans and rice The gyro was extremely tasty and moist with an excellent tzatziki sauce. The rice and beans side was extremely tasty. I did wish they had some hot sauce. We had a jalapeño poppers as an appetizer. Made our usual family lunch after church with my eldest daughter and youngest daughter. Been wanting to try it, a local family restaurant with a great selection of seafood. We arrived about 12:30 and I was concerned they would be crowded but only about half occupied so several tables open. Order at the counter, pay, then they bring your order to you table side. My eldest chose the Salmon with veggies. My youngest went for the Fish and Shrimp Combo with Curly Fries. I had just started a special Kidney diet so I opted for the Rice Bowl with Shrimp and Black Beans. It was a short wait on our meals but keep in mind this is fresh, made to order seafood, not a bunch of burgers made in advance. Our food arrived and the portions were huge. I actually had to try the Salmon, which looked and tasted great! The Fish and Shrimp was also delicious. My youngest ate the fries, half the fish and a couple shrimp and was full. My Rice Bowl was wonderful, with plenty of shrimp (seasoned fantastically) and a lot of rice. I had to take half home. Just remember that the regular dishes don't come with sides, so sides are extra cost. Great meal, fresh and delicious, just remember to be patient for your meal. We will definitely be back - I am closely eyeing the Oyster Combi! And check out their homemade desserts! Really nice fast food option with lots of seafood and some nice side like garden salad and fried cauliflower. I enjoyed my grilled shrimp and my husband really liked his huge fried fish sandwich (you got to choose from bada, salmon or tilapia). And the side of fried cauliflower had a nice kick to it and was very crispy. I recommend asking for a side of their spicy dipping sauce to go with it. I stopped in on a Sunday for lunch. Signage is literally everywhere upon entering. I noticed there was a special - mix and match for 10.99. I ordered a chicken gyro and regular gyro to go. The staff was friendly and patient. After a short wait, my food was ready. Once I got home and opened the container I thought, eh. This may not be that great. I was pleasantly surprised. The gyro was tasty, but I wish it had a little more tzatziki (or even a small container on the side) and purple onions. Unfortunately, the chicken gyro was a miss. It was dry/lacked flavor and very messy to eat. Unlike the gyro, the chicken had more than enough tzatziki. The Saving Grace for the chicken gyro was the super fresh and soft pita. I would definitely revisit Sparta, but I won't be ordering the chicken gyro again. read more

The fish was fried lightly, incredibly moist big grouper flakes, and I have tried hundreds of "fresh grouper" in most of the Tampa and Clearwater restaurants. Sparta's FRESH grouper was a standout! Another feature I loved was that you can get in and out fairly quickly, do not need reservations and can sit and sample many new and classic Mediterranean cuisine for remarkably reasonable prices. This is such a great local spot! The ambiance was so nice and you could tell a lot of love went into crating this restaurant. The food was delicious. The great is the seafood - my better half's seafood patter (shrimp and fish) was excellent well seasoned and hot - came with a side and a drink. Delicious he proclaimed. Sparta Seafood and Grill is a new restaurant seeking an identity. We stopped in after a movie and immediately decided to carry our order out seeing the fast food seating. It took us a while to decipher the menu as there is no "meal" option just a combo option with a single side and a forced drink. Only some of the sides listed on the menu are available in the "combo". If you want one of the other sides it is a 1.99 up charge even though those sides are the same price as the allowed sides or 1.00 more, whaaat? There are a LOT of inconsistencies between the paper menu and the board on the wall like the big up-charge for salmon. I ordered the greek salad with gyro meat which turned out to be a $16+ salad with no onions, bottled dressing, grocery store potato salad and one horrible grape leaf. My wife liked her grilled tilapia and extra large portion of coleslaw. The person who took our order helped us understand the menu and worked hard to serve everyone and handle the front of the house. When I got home I checked their web site menu to see if I was missing something. That menu was even more confusing with many of the descriptions too long for the box they are in, making the descriptions useless. I will not stop back here for a couple of years to see if they work out these issues,,,if they still exist. read more

Long Johns use to be my all time favorite, but it was always so cold you had to bring a sweater. The last couple of times has been awful!!! I asked for my fish to be freshly made with hot fries {previous experience has not been good) By the time I went to get my drink (which they were out of Rootbeer and I don't drink caffined drinks) they had our food waiting on us and push it back to them and told them now I would like some hot fresh food please and stood there while they made it. Told the girl the root beer was out she said it came with the combo nothing she could do. I talked to manager he told me to drink something else they were out! needless to say not a good experience and then today same thing, but the fish was hot, the fries were cold. I asked for some new ones. They forgot them. After I am finished with my fish I asked where my fries were and the rootbeer was still out! but they were going to change it and never did. He brought me big take out box of fries and I said I wanted refuned for my drink since it is included. Needless t say I ended up with my refund and will never be back to that Long John's again :( read more

Went here for lunch our first time today. My wife got a chicken gyro, and I got the fried scallops and fried mushrooms. Good food, clean restaurant, and fair prices. The scallops were juicy and lightly fried. Very good. The mushrooms were in a hard batter... too hard to easily cut in half with the plastic utensils provided. Juicy and hot, but it would have been nice to cut them up a bit before taking a bite. Perhaps using the same batter as used on the scallops would make them easily to cut into pieces. We'll be back. I have to share this experience with everyone here on Yelp. So I went to Sparta because I was craving a gyro and Sparta is close to my home. I went through the drive thru and gave my order and as I drove to the window I realized I left my wallet at home! I apologized to the gentleman at the window and told him "..I left my wallet....sorry...I'll come back another day..so sorry." The man stopped me as I began to drive away and said that he would still give me the food and that I could come back another time and pay for the meal. I was shocked! I told him that I didn't want to inconvenience him and he reassured me that he didn't believe it would be right to not give me the food if I was truly hungry and he expressed that he believes in life....people matter. I generously excepted the drink and meal and he gave me a receipt and said "...you can pay whenever you come back to the restaurant." When I looked at the receipt and saw that I could scan the QC code with my phone and pay with Apple pay. I paid and showed the gentleman that it was paid and that we both were good. We shared a great laugh ( technology is awesome!) and shook hands through the drive thru window. Oh and the gyro was outstanding and the fries were delicious as well. Everything on the gyro was fresh and hot. Perfection. Great food!! Great people!! Exceptional service and elite ownership!! My husband & I dined at Sparta Seafood and Grill located at 3157 Curlew Rd., Oldsmar, FL 34677. With that restaurant name, people would think it is a Greek owned restaurant offering Greek grilled seafood entrees. The message the owners give is confusing, although the name is Sparta and they use the Greek Sparta symbol/ logo. The owners are non Greek, they are Jordanians and their menu consists of a variety of different foods that are non Greek from Philly sandwiches to Cajun French fries, black beans & rice, etc., . They give off the impression that the restaurant offers Greek grilled seafood which is misleading. It also says "Seafood & Grill, however the majority of the items on the menu is deep fried, greasy and they use frozen imitation seafood which most fast food restaurants do as well. It would be nice if the owners were more forthcoming. The name of the restaurant should be called "Variety Restaurant" because the menu offers a "variety of different foods." This is a fast casual, order at the counter or drive thru establishment. The menu is all over the place, it's unfortunate the majority of the menu food is from the freezer to the deep fryer meaning a lot of inflammation coronary artery disease food. We both ordered sandwiches which looked edible, however they were okay, nothing special. The owners are very nice and hard working. The menu prices are reasonable and the portions are generous. The restaurant is very clean and I love all the natural light from the windows. It's a shame they don't offer healthier options and better quality food. Just not my cup of tea. The 2 combos came with a side and a drink. I got onion rings he got fries. For some reason I was charged extra for the onion rings but didn't see anything about it being a different price on thre menu. If it was only fries with the combo it should have said it comes with fries not 1 side. But I didn't say anything wasn't a big deal at the time. I got home and turns out I paid extra for no reason because we got 2 orders of fries. The woman working the front register was very nice but the people in the kitchen needs to pay attention to the orders especially since there are price differences. I'm very tired from work it's a rain storm outside I'll eat the fries but not happy. read more
