Brought the wife and kids for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. Sat right down at the sushi counter and were greeted immediately. The menu has a great variety. The restaurant was very clean, cool and comfortable. The kids and my wife had hibatchi chicken, noodles and vegetables. They said it was fantastic. Everything was deliciously hibatchi cooked with a nice sear and sprinkled with sesame. The vegetables were fantastically fresh. Generous portions, even the kids size hibatchi is enough for an adult. I ordered the "sushi regular" which came with a great hot bowl of soup, a california roll and 8 pieces of fresh fish and rice. The tuna, salmon, yellow tail and red snapper were delicious and clearly very fresh. The sushi plate came to me quite a bit after the wife and kids got theirs, but not a big deal. The kids loved watching the sushi chef's working their craft and he answered the kids' questions happily. You should definitely come! read more

We tried Master chef for the first time last week and I have finally decided to give it a 5 star review. We caught them at an off time and the place was almost empty. The staff was extremely friendly and engaging. I called ahead to confirm the restaurant is BYOB friendly, and decided to bring a few adult beverages to compliment my meal. The sushi was OUTSTANDING, they offer a wide variety of rolls and selections to choose from. However, I was most impressed with the fact that the staff travels to Boston regularly to hand select the freshest sushi for their customers! The sushi was delicious; some of the best I've ever had, probably. You could tell that the fish was very fresh. I also had a bowl of hot and sour soup that was quite tasty as well, but not the greatest ramen I've experienced. The tea was too weak for my taste, in fact, it was so weak that my friends and I could hardly taste anything but water. The restaurant is very small, so I'd suggest going early if you'd like to sit quickly, and the parking lot is some sort of jig saw puzzle like situation. Go for the sushi, though. Master Chef would be a very difficult name to bear but the folks at MC make it look easy, doing it with confidence, style and flair. Don't go expecting a traditional sushi bar seating arrangement with a chef working behind a Hoshizaki refrigerated sushi case and customers seated in front perched on narrow counter rails. You can elect seating at a real bar with plenty of elbow room and great vantage points to see all the goings on or at a table in one of the two adjoining rooms. I chose the bar and glad I did, I was able to take good pictures and asked plenty of questions which made my lunch time stop even more enjoyable. I ordered the sushi luncheon special which came with snapper, blue fin tuna, Faroe Island salmon, and yellow fin tuna and an eel roll with avocado. My host said they make several trips to Boston per week for fresh fish, I was more than pleased with my selection as I felt it was some of the best sushi I have had in the area. When I found out they make their kimchi in house I ordered a side of that as well. The kimchi had been made the day before; therefore, it had not fermented or aged, providing a whole new flavor profile which I found extremely satisfying. I liked the clean crisp flavor of the cabbage which came through above the spicing providing a decidedly different texture and taste than it's aged counter part. There are ten or so Korean dishes on the menu providing additional dining options other than sushi or sashimi. Master Chef lives up to it's name and might very well carve out a new name in the area, what more could you ask for!!! read more

I have ordered many times their sushi specialized sushi meals and hand rolled sushi, and for the size of the fish and the price your getting an amazing deal. Hands down the best place in the area for the freshest sushi, sashimi, and rolls. We have patiently (and sometimes not so patiently!) been waiting for this place to open up the last few months and we certainly were not disappointed. My husband and I ordered the sushi sashimi deluxe platter with an extra Boston roll on the side. Very generous portions! Several hours later we are both still super full. Sitting at the bar is our favorite spot since we get to watch the intricate handiwork of the sushi chefs. Louis and John make this place run like clockwork and the service by all of the staff is nothing less than amazing. 6/3/16 update: This place has gotten a lot better; still haven't done takeout again but if you eat at the sushi bar, it's BYOB and the fish was amaaaaazing. Very friendly staff. Glad I gave it another try. Meh...I honestly don't see what all the fuss is about. Did takeout; 2 caterpillar rolls, SAC roll, salmon roll and sashimi app. $+40; yikes. *WAY too much rice; I was peeling off 1/2" thick clumps of rice so I could taste the fish. Had a plate full of it by the time I was done. The pieces of salmon in my roll were maybe 1/4"; the rest was rice; rip-off. *If you love sauce all over your sushi, you'll probably like this place. Too much mayo-y sauce all over the caterpillar rolls. The spicy tuna inside was quite tasty (but again, too much rice). *Fish is high in quality; sashimi was by far the best part. But only 3 pieces vs 4 at Ichiban Sure it's super-busy right now; 30m wait for takeout last night. But unless they start cutting back on the amount of sticky rice and upping their fish offerings, I won't be back. read more

Master chef is a little out of the way from my school in Springfield but is always well worth the drive. I'm a sucker for BYOB as it is, but the sushi rolls here are so fresh! Being two hours from the coast I always find myself missing the freshness of fish from home. MasterChef is fresh from the fish to the rice wrapping all the goodness together! Waitstaff is friendly and the dining rooms are small (there is two 4 tables rooms). Even on the most busy nights sushi comes out in 10 minutes maximum. Prices are very fair. Given that it's BYOB - you should tip your sever an extra 5-10% as a rule. Dessert is underwhelming - but if your coming here for dessert than your in the wrong place. My suggestion - come to 2 or 3 friends and get the roll and spicy roll combo. You get TONS of sushi (more than you can eat). read more

I thought the sushi at Master Chef was solid and inventive. The tempura starters (chicken and veg) were good but were unlike tempura that I've had elsewhere. The miso soup was very salty (for my taste). The kids had yakisoba and Bibimbap and did not really enjoy their meals. read more

I order the Ramen/roll lunch special. $14 for a ridiculous amount of ramen and an entire California roll. Plenty for 2 people. This has some of the freshest sushi I've ever had. Although I've never been to Japan, I've had sushi in Boston, New York City, and San Diego. This more inland place is right up there with the best in those cities! It's a beautiful restaurant, too, very modern design. They have a wide variety of specialty rolls, but the best and freshest is the sushi itself. They give generously-sized pieces of fish. The white tuna was a special treat - different from the tuna you're probably used to, this was melt-in-your-mouth tender and slightly sweet. Perfect with no soy sauce at all. On top of the excellent food, it has the added bonus of being very reasonably priced, less expensive than other sushi places in the area. This place is so delicious. The sushi was amazing. I can taste the difference in sushi than any other place. The kani salad, to die for. If you're looking for a place to eat some amazing sushi, this is it. I'll be coming back to try the actual food very soon! The only reason why I give it 4 stars is that, the place is pretty small so we couldn't even get a table on a Monday and had to sit at the bar, luckily it was only the two of us. Also, looks like there's only one server doing 10 different jobs at once so it was hard to ask things that we needed. Also, because there was only two sushi chefs, it took a while to get our sushi. You'd normally wait 15 min or so to get your sushi anywhere else, we must of waited 25-30. But it was certainly worth the wait!! read more

WOW, One of the absolutely best Sushi restaurants I have ever been to - and I love Sushi to the point of flying to Japan to have Sushi. The Sashimi is fresh, served with generous portions and is honestly wonderful. Generic Japanese sushi place with a twist. If you don't like sesame seeds all over your roles make sure to tell them and they'll put them on anyways. I even asked when I got there to confirm that there was no sesame seeds and the woman said "yes! Sesame seeds free". Good thing I'm not allergic! There was also a very thick amount of rice wrapped around the roles. I would compare it to what you'd see at a cheap buffet. Rice to meat ratio is all out of balance for what they charge. All of the roles tasted like sesame seeds. It was disappointing and disgusting. No where on the menu online did it state that they role the "roles" in sesame seeds. I have never seen such a thing ever in my life at any sushi restaurant... Even the miso soup was extremely salty. Could not even eat it. What the heck!?!? I couldn't understand how that was messed up. This was my second attempt to try this place and it was an utter disappointment again. My sisters and I came here because we wanted sashimi and our friends recommended us to go here. Unfortunately, the cut was pretty thick. I don't like having to take multiple bites into my sashimi. But it was fresh, so I guess that's what matters the most? We also ordered the dumpling soup, which was really salty, and the yaki soba, also salty. Garden salad? The dressing was salty. I mean, I tend to avoid putting too much salt on foods I eat/cook, but if my two sisters and I all talked about salt after we left, then we have a slight problem. We came here after looking for a new place this past Friday night. Parking was very limited so you are going to want to keep that in mind if you go. Our food: It was good but there were a few issues. We both ordered shrimp hibachi which comes with a choice of white rice, brown rice, or noodles, and a choice of miso soup or salad. My partner got the miso soup, and I chose the salad. He loved the miso. I can't say how the salad was because I realized after we left that I never received my salad. Our server said it was coming right up when she brought the soup but then showed up with our entrees and told us the sushi had a lot of orders and was running behind. The sushi we ordered was delicious which arrived after the entrees, which for us is fine. My partner chose the noodles, and I chose the brown rice. The shrimp was good. The brown rice was good though I was expecting fried rice (my confusion, not theirs) but there was enough sauce on the vegetables to mix it all together and it tasted great and was probably much healthier. The veggies were great. My partner's noodles were not good. The noodles were hard, some of which seemed not cooked at all. The flavor would have been great if it weren't for that. Atmosphere: The place is clean. It was pretty noisy but that's not unusual, particularly on a Friday night. It was a hot day and the AC was on so it was comfortable. Only complaint is our table rocked quite a bit. My favorite part was the sushi. I liked it better overall than he did. He's a bit more picky than I am, so I might come back, but I don't think he'd ever want to. read more
