First off - do you know how hard it is to impress Chinese parents? No? Let me fill you in - if it's too expensive, my parents will chide me on picking an expensive place, even if it's my treat. If it's not Chinese food, it's a toss up whether or not they'll actually go. So when I suggested this place after an apartment tour, and my parents were enthusiastic about eating, I knew it was a winning choice already. I haven't been here since their grand opening years ago, but I'm happy that it's still the same as it was before, if not better. Their noodle soups are a must and the heart of the restaurant - I especially love the Shanxi shaved noodle soup, which is a perfect hug on a cold day. The broth is so rich and so hearty, you can't stop slurping. The Sichuan wontons in chili oil are also great, a garlicky chili oil that will have you licking your plate. Overall, Master Noodle makes it an easy choice to dine out here. A parking lot in the back is always a welcome sight along University, and service is prompt and cordial. A window near the noodle pulling station allows you to see the magic happen, which is also a nice treat to see how it's done. Yum! So glad we stumbled upon this place! Very reasonably priced and a nice experience! Food was amazing. We started with short ribs, garlic edamame, and pork dumplings as apps. All were so good but we wished we'd gotten extra dumplings - they were amazing!! I ordered the garlic chicken fried noodles for my meal. It states it's spicy. Minnesota's first ever hand pulled noodle restaurant! Their hand pulled noodles are too-die-for! Plus, who wouldn't want to watch a noodle master making your noodles right in front of you? Coming from California, I have very high expectations for Taiwanese cuisine since I am surrounded by it at home. I can confidently say, that this place is most definitely authentic and delicious! I got the Taiwanese Tomato Beef Brisket Noodle Soup (beef noodle soup $12.95) and it was super good! Great flavor, great chew from the noodle, broth was fantastic, pickled vegetables were tasty, but the beef was a bit tough. Overall though, it was definitely great! The service was equally fantastic. We placed our order with a QR code and waited like 5 minutes then our food was out! The lady who served us was so sweet and amazing. I didn't like as much as shaved noodle. Garlic stir fried noodle - 3/5 said to be one of their most popular dishes but it wasn't for me. I certainly was looking for more spice and I didn't get it. Everything I ordered was supposed to be spicy and I didn't find it to be spicy at all. For reference, I would order a spice level 3 at a Thai restaurant. The wontons tasted good and I would recommend them to anyone, even if you don't like spicy food. The cold cucumbers were AMAZING! So damn tasty! The soup came out lukewarm, I had to asked for them to either heat it up or get me a new bowl. I added about a teaspoon or so of chili oil to the soup to give it some umph. I love noodles. I really love hand pulled noodles! I've been wanting to try Master Noodle for so long, they changed their name from their original Magic Noodle. Well, Magic or Master, their noodles are delicious. We placed our order online which was simple. Picked up our well packaged order and headed home. We ordered their cheese wontons, chicken fried rice, steamed beef dumplings, sichuan wontons in chili oil, mongolian beef noodles, garlic chicken fried noodles and sichuan dan dan noodles. Their wontons were shaped differently than any other cheese wontons that we have had. They also seemed lighter, even though they probably weren't. Tasty. The chicken fried rice was as expected. Both dumplings were very good. Having homemade noodles makes all the difference. Same is true with the garlic chicken fried noodles and the mongolian beef noodles. Both dishes were good but having homemade noodles takes those dishes to the next level. The dan dan noodles were a little different from other dan dan noodles that I have had before however again, homemade noodles make all the difference. We really enjoyed our meal and look forward to coming back again for some more noodles! read more

Ok, so the portions are ridiculously small when you're doing take-out, but in a pandemic who cares! So yummy. The only thing is don't order rice for your wife coming here because she'll get real mad! We got the Lanzhou Noodle Soup, Chongquing Spicy Noodle Soup, Sichuan Wonton in Chili Oil, and Shrimp Fried Rice. The Lanzhou Noodle soup is thin sliced braised brisket, and Chongquing Spicy Noodle comes with super yummy ground beef soaked in that ubiquitous Szechuan chili oil sauce. Both comes with their made to order pulled noodles. Yes, before COVID-19 when we went in person, we saw the guy pull our noodles right before he put them in the boiling pot for us. We couldn't believe it. This is easily one of our favorite noodle places in the Twin Cities, and we eat a lot of noodles! Pro tip (for Pandemic Pick-up): the parking lot is in the back, so drop off your loved one in front so they can jump right in the front door, and they can come out the back door right to your car where you'd be waiting for the yummies! read more

This place is awesome - not aware of any place like it in Minneapolis! They make their own noodles and you can watch them prep the dough as you eat! All our food was excellent. Would recommend the pan fried pork dumplings and the garlic chicken fried noodles in particular. I was hoping for some tofu options because everything looked amazing and it would have been nice to try but both of us are vegetarians. Yum!!!! I had such a good meal here! This is an Asian restaurant with a big emphasis on their dishes that are made from freshly-crafted noodles. Seriously, if you like it when they are cranking out perfect handmade noodles right in front of you then you absolutely must try this place. From where we were sitting we could see through a big window into the kitchen where they were making them. I ordered the Garlic Chicken Noodles, and that dish was FANTASTIC. Really flavorful without being overpoweringly spicy. Those noodles. I LOVE THESE NOODLES. My friends, who had been here many times before, had Shanxi Shaved Noodle Soup which was reported to be as amazing as it looked, and another noodley thing, and we had excellent beef dumplings, and it was just all so great. I go into this review with the caveat that I've only had a limited number of dishes here, but they've all been fantastic! The Shan-xi shaved noodle soup is a warming hearty bowl of delicious hand-ripped noodles in a cilantro-y steaming broth. The soup dumplings are perfect. The Szechuan chili wontons are little nuggets of spicy deliciousness. The beef burrito is a light cooling delight. I've been here a couple of times (both with coworkers for lunch and with family for dinner). It is a fun experience to see the noodles made in house through the glass window. But overview food wise, this place was meh for me. I love the idea of fresh hand pulled noodles but I actually would prefer to build my own noodle bowl instead of the ones on the menu. It would be cool to choose the type of noodles I want, veggies, protein and stock. I've had several of the soups and although it was definitely hearty, it still lacked flavors in my opinion. For example, the shanxi noodle soup was beefy but not really anything else, I couldn't taste the spices and I ended up using alot of soy sauce and chili oil to add some more flavor. My main criticism is that the soup was just lukewarm- Idk about you, but when I eat soup- especially any Asian noodle soups, I want it hot, preferably almost burning hot. I think this is important when the noodles are freshly made too since freshly made noodles are usually more chewy. Both times, I went I had to ask the waiters to heat it up or add more hot liquid. Both times, I knew my waiter was confused and annoyed. That being said, service is medicore- somewhat friendly but nothing special. Also both times I went, everyone's food came out at different times (maybe 5-20 minutes from each other)- which is not a huge problem but I generally like it when everyone's food comes out together so we could enjoy it all at once. There isnt much vegetarian/vegan options. On the plus side- I had no problems finding parking in the back. read more

If it weren't for the cute Chinese decor and clean modern ambience I would probably give this place a 3 stars. I've been here maybe 3 times and the noodles were always consistent. I tried pretty much all the noodle dishes they offer here. My favorite one is the knife cut beef noodle soup, the noodle texture is one of the best I've had at a noodle restaurant like this. They make all the noodles by scratch, not sure about the soup though, that could use some work on that. The soup is not that flavorful and is used for all their noodle dishes except they add more spices in the spicy one. I'll probably end up coming here again when I'm around town. read more

Wow. This is a pretty legit noodle house. We visited for dinner one night and found the fairly large restaurant to be full with a few parties waiting. We were greeted, given a buzzer and seated fairly promptly. Our waitress was so cute - very prompt and also very busy. She answered all of our questions and tapped our order into her ipad. We ordered big (we can't help ourselves). Even though the menu seems like it's kinda small, there are so many good things to eat that it's really not a problem. So we got the dumpling chili oil appetizer, which was pretty bomb. The wrappers are homemade, light and delicate, with a good filling and a lovely chili sauce that was just the Minnesota spicy right amount of spicy. We got the beef burrito, which was like a Chinese version of a beef burrito with a super crunchy outer layer that reminded me of a thin crispy scallion pancake. Really good, especially when dipped with the leftover chili oil from the dumplings. I got the Moo Shu Fried Noodles, which were a generous portion of lovely hand pulled egg noodles cooked perfectly with some finely sliced veggies and the amazing black fungus. The sauce was flavorful and a touch sweet. My only wish was that the sauce was a little bit thicker. A good tablespoon of corn starch would have helped. But that's maybe just me. It was absolutely delicious. My husband got the Lanzhou Noodle Soup, which had a different wider type of noodle in a beautiful broth. My husband is trying to eat healthy and asked for extra veggies, which was an add on option at the bottom of the menu (along with a lot of other on-demand extras). Also - I know this is weird. Our entire meal started with an incredibly cold, chilly perfect glass of water. Sometimes it's the small things you know? Overall very very good. We will definitely be back. read more

Magic Noodle was magical! You need to have fresh noodles at least once in your life! There is no competition to the texture and flavor you get from 'real' noodles! When we arrived, we were in awe of how amazing this place was. The decor and kitchen are in view from the entrance and it's entertaining to be able to see the noodles being made. Despite the high ceilings, they did a great job of making sure it wouldn't be overly loud. We were there at 6:30 on a Friday and only waited 10 minutes or less for party of 2. Tons of people taking to go orders as well. The food: Starters- Scallion pancakes (yum! Add some table chili oil for the perfect flavor!) & Braised Egg and pork belly (I don't eat pork, but my hubby was in heaven! He said it was cooked perfectly and wasn't tough or chewy.) Entrees- Garlic Chicken Fried Noodles (nice and just enough jalapeño spice. This was our favorite.) Tomato Egg Noodle Bowl (Probably one of the most unique dishes we've had. An Asian take on spaghetti? A splash of soy sauce make this so complex.) Saved room for green tea cheesecake! Wow. I was impressed with this place. As a person who has made fresh pasta many times, I was unaware of this "hand-pulled" noodle technique. Youtube it, it's very cool! If you don't look it up beforehand you can witness them stretching the pasta by hand through the big glass window. The result? Delicious and VERY long noodles. I've driven by this place a ton but I've never stopped in until recently. It's right off the light rail and in a small strip mall on the corner. The food is amazing and very authentic. It's an unusual type of Taiwanese noodle that is hand pulled. You can watch them making and pulling the noodles in the kitchen through a large glass window. The food has always been spot on. I found the service especially friendly and fast. I went around dinner time and waited about 5-10 minutes for a table. The interior is very modern and incorporates several traditional Chinese motifs. Upon ordering we received the food almost immediately! Fried Beef Dumplings 3/5 I personally found the filling to be too salty for my taste and the dipping sauce too light and sweet for the filling, but the dumpling wrapper was excellent. Braised pork and egg 5/5 Great! The pork was very tender and I'm a fan of the sweet soy sauce it was stewed in. Cumin Mutton Handmade pie 5/5 This ended up being my favorite thing here! I loved the flavor profile, the cumin was so delicious and I didn't find the mutton gamey at all. There was so much filling and the bun it came in was nice and crispy. Taiwanese tomato beef noodles 4/5 The hand pulled noodles were SO good! There's so much cilantro and green onions, I wish they put in more pickled mustard but the toppings were great. The Twin Cities does not have a Chinatown which means that my craving for authentic dishes is somewhat limited. So I was incredibly excited to hear that a hand-pulled noodle shop was coming to University Ave in St Paul! Magic Noodle is pretty dang good. I have the good fortune to have parents who cooked hand pulled noodles and other yummy Taiwanese foods for me growing up and the dishes I tried gave me nostalgia in the best way! We started with a "beef burrito" - which is essentially a scallion-type pancake rolled up with beef, scallions and cilantro, plus hoisin sauce. It was delish! Then we got the Taiwanese beef noodle soup (real good but broth could have deeper flavor) and garlic chicken fried noodles (reminiscent of pad Thai). Both were tasty and again reminded me of home! Tip: get extra noodles - you won't regret it! I loved that the workers were speaking Chinese to each other and that you can watch them hand pull the noodles from wherever you are sitting! The only thing I wasn't as big of a fan was the prices - seemed a little expensive, especially given the amount of noodles one gets (granted I think I'm also used to hole-in-the-wall prices).
