We have been boarding our labrador retriever at Master's Kennels in Gilbert for years. Our faith in them was proven out again today when our dog had an obstruction from something she ate at our house. They got her to vet hospital and stayed with her until we could be reached and coordinated with. We were across the country and it made us feel so at ease to know they cared enough to take care of her and offer her support in so many different ways. Their kettles are always clean and air-conditioned and our dog always looks forward to going and is so excited to get out of the car. read more

I tried a few trainers for two different dogs and this was by far the worst. This guy is aggressive in style. Plus he made me feel a bit uncomfortable. The smelling like an ashtray smell didn't help either. read more

We took our 20lb Jack-Chi there a handful of times over the course of 6 months. Every time we dropped him off, she had us put him straight into the kennel and she asked if he has eaten yet. When we picked him up, he was always kenneled and was trying to run straight out the door. She up-charged us a couple times and when we questioned her about it the final time, Arleen got defensive and told us that she was the cheapest place in town and to take our business elsewhere which we will be doing. Personally, I don't mind spending an extra $5/night to take him to a place where he at least gets some exercise and interaction with dogs outside of a kennel. read more

I have boarded my two dogs here AND participated in their training. To begin with, I would not leave my dogs anywhere else but here. Their kennels are clean, they don't smell when you walk in like other boarding kennels, they are spacious and they let the dogs out often taking into consideration your dogs personality and behavior when deciding who to let them out with. As far as their training goes, I have worked with two different trainers now and was lucky enough to get in a class that two other trainers were in training their own dogs and everyone is supportive and highly qualified. I haven't used the boarding, but I can speak on behalf of their training. "Greg's way" of training is remarkable. I have my rescue golden lab in his training classes and have nothing but great things to say about the quality of training. I have used the pet store training with a previous dog, and that was ok. The training we're getting at Master Kennels is awesome. It's a fun environment and I've had 2 different trainers at Master's and both are very knowledgeable with animals. I have seen great strides in the way my dog acts now. He loves the training as much as I like taking him. I recommend the training to anyone. read more

Poor training, no follow up, my pup got kennel cough from there, I reported no other families were notified, but I am aware that other families pups did get sick too, from staying in touch with them and proper notification from me. Suzanne never returned my call after I advised her why we could not finish. The left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. read more

Having taken multiple classes with 2 different pups and several trainers I can attest to the professional instructors and nice facility. My litte dog, Rusty, just finished the six week basic course with SuAnne as the instructor. It truly helped settle him down. Although he learned to sit, stay, down, leave it and other basic behaviors he hopes to repeat this class in the fall. His overall behavior is much better after taking this class. I recommend this class to all doggies with behavior issues. read more

I went there for one class, paid for the full session but never went back again. I have nothing negative or positive to say about the training but I did notice the big confederate flag on the wall and decided I didn't want to come back again. Any business that has the flag I will not support. read more

HORRIBLE experience - your dog is NOT SAFE there....we took our miniature schnauzer to MK for boarding in 2009 (i Know this is late in reviewing, but i just found Yelp) for 3 days. When we picked him up, we noticed stagnate water was in the dog dishes - nothing fresh. By the time we got him home, we could tell something was wrong, so we took him to the vet immediately and he was severely dehydrated and had to be given fluids by IV and kept overnight - he also had the beginning stages of twisted stomach! We called MK to let them know and they never returned our calls - they almost killed our dog! We told our vet, who had them on a "list" and we tell everyone we know. This is the BEST training I have encountered. We have owned dogs all our lives, used PetSmart, Petco, private trainers and boarding training (not this one) and have never had the amazingly quick results that we have had with Masters Kennels for our dog Tigger. Tigger is a Boxer. After only two trainings his is solid on sit, stay, touch, watch and the best - HEAL. Tigger walks on a leash perfectly after only his first lesson. He used to pull me down the street, now, I can walk him beautifully with barely holding the leash. He heals perfectly walking at the same pace as me, no pulling at all, stops to a sit immediately as soon as I stop. I was proud to walk my dog in the neighborhood. i received so many complements on what a "good boy" Tigger was and how well behaved he is. After ONE training, no barking, pulling, digging, jumping, nipping, chewing things ALL GONE! This is amazing professional training. I am very impressed and HIGHLY recommend this dog training class. I would give them 10 stars! Both trainers are very knowledgeable and professionally train show and field dogs. They know how to train correctly. And they are less expensive than the big pet stores! read more

I brought my 10 lb miniture poodlet to Master Kennels for the snake avoidance class. I hike every week with with my dog, so something I felt was required for her safety. I was very impressed with how clean, organized and well prepared they are. (From the minute you walk in the door). The cass starts with a discussion, from the trainer of what you and your dog will be doing at all times. Then you head out to a back yard for training. There are 3 phases. Sight, smell and sound. The trainer works with each dog until they are aware of each. They use live snakes, but they are defanged and under control of a handler so you never feel any kind of threat from any snake! I felt completely confident once we left that class, that my dog was completely trained. Just to test this training..... about 2 hours after I got home I pulled up rattlesnake sounds on my ipad. My dog way lying on the couch next to my husband. As I came closer to her.... with my I pad and the rattlesnake audio.... she started to freak out!!!! Even on our evening walk tonight she seemed more aware of everything around her. My girl is trained.... and I will feel so much safer hiking with now :) read more

VERY AND UNHAPPY WITH MASTERS KENNELS!!!!! We signed up for training classes after talking to Greg and his wife Arlene on the phone. There were two different instructors during the course and their training styles contradicted each other. One trainer telling us the other trainer was less qualified because she used to train at Pets Mart. After expressing my frustrations with her, the instructor became very rude. Not a people person. After this frustrating experience we tried to get a hold of Greg and left three messages with his wife, never receiving a call back. When we called and finally got a hold of Greg (several weeks later), he told us he would put us in the next level class free of charge to compensate for the negative experience. We were pleased and decided to give their class another try. We showed up to class a week later to a new instructor who was much better. But Arlene called us a few days later to tell us her Husband Greg never told us we could take the class free of charge, and that we had misconstrued the information. We were not allowed to continue the class unless we were willing to pay for the class in full. Terrible customer service. read more

My latest experience with MK your dog is not safe here. This weekend we decided to board our puppy (Tank 10mos old) on Sat night. When my boyfriend, Pat went to drop him off he was placed into a kennel next to another lab. As he was standing in front of the other dogs kennel he growled at him & showed his teeth. Pat asked if he was safe to be around other dogs after seeing the dog get aggressive towards him for just standing there. Arlene insisted he was and then scolded the dog. So we left our puppy trusting them with his safety. Sunday I went to pick him up and was told by Arlene again, that there was a little problem. Apparently when she was trying to feed the dogs (who were all out of their kennels, which makes no sense) Tank was licking that same aggressive dog's face when he bit him, leaving a 1" long tear in his ear! She then tried to blame it on my puppy b/c he was in the other dogs face. When we got to Tank's kennel he was still next to the dog that attacked him and was bleeding everywhere. She made no attempt to clean the wound or to pick up the phone to let us know what had happened. The fact that she takes no responsibility for the attack happening while these dogs were under her care is despicable. We are constantly getting complement over Tank & how well behaved he is, and we WERE referring people to you guys. Our puppy is well socialized and listens to other dogs by a simple growl or warning bark. There was no need for blood! read more

We took the puppy training class. I did not find their method of training particularly effective. I also was not impressed with the trainer and found her actually pretty rude. I know she did not like the way I was training my dog (I reward frequently and set my pup up to perform a behavior successfully instead of waiting for her to do the wrong thing so I can yank on her leash. Instead, Masters kennels wants your dog to do things wrong so you can correct them - this is something I not only observed but was also essentially told this by the teacher.), and that's fine for them, I don't expect them to teach their class based on what I think is correct.. But since I paid them, did expect to be treated respectfully by the trainer and was not. Infact she was rude. I think their method of training expects too much of puppies too quickly and requires owners to repeatedly correct their dogs for not doing behaviors that the dogs haven't really even learned. It's not effective to give your dog a correction for a behavior it doesn't know. An example of how discouraging this method of training is for puppies was when the teacher selected dogs to demonstrate and every single dog she selected each and every time was frightened of her and unable to effectively demo. Training should be rewarding for dog and owner. It should not involve endless ineffective corrections and fear. This is not a fun training class for your puppy. A puppies first exposure to training should be positive, fun, and full of rewards - you won't get this at masters kennels. Look for something else! read more
