We went here for our anniversary on a Friday night and the food was just phenomenal. We didn't have a reservation and they were able to fit us in, and it was everything we wanted- a romantic, intimate environment, attentive, personable service that wasn't intrusive, and delicious, fresh pasta. They also brought out a complimentary carrot cake dessert which was AMAZING. This is such a wonderful spot for a date night, we'll definitely be back.

i came here for a fever eating blindfold event. this was a great experience. i had a dietary restriction of dairy free and picked the seafood meal option. the service was attentive. the ambiance was upscale. the food took a bit longer than my companion next to me to come out at times but that was because they had to handle the adjustments of my restrictions. the food tasted really good and the three course meal was very satisfying. overall i enjoyed my time here.

Okay, I can't give half point stars on here, but if I had to truly rate Mastrantos, it's a 4.5! First, parking was easy! We went on a Friday night and were easily able to make a reservation and find parking. We were welcomed and seated immediately. I wish I remembered our servers name.. but he was great and friendly. Food is delicious! We got so many things to start, like the sourdough bread, sweet & sour pork belly and Arepitas. ALL small plates were 10/10. I particularly loved the arepitas... so freaking good. We ordered a variety of pastas and I got the NY Steak which was cooked perfectly.. medium rare! I give it a 5/5 for sure. The gnocci was creamy and seasoned so well.. it was a fan favorite at the table. My husband got the Tortelloni & Lamb Ragu, which I would give a 4/5. It was good, but we wouldn't get it again. The classic Bolognese was also very good (5/5). We didn't get dessert, because we were super full, but during our dinner, we had drinks, and the black smoke margarita was something my husband really liked! Only complaint I have.. was service took forever. It took a long time to get our main dishes.. and that was disappointing. I appreciated our waiter keeping us informed throughout dinner.. and he was very kind. Definitely check them out :)

Good ambience and all house made pasta which is 10/10 Scallop crudo- eh flavors were good but idk maybe a different seafood option would have been better for the crudo Artichokes- served them in 3 different forms (grilled, baked, and fried) and all were perfect and came with a creamy sauce Lamb ragu- my favorite pasta, I liked the sprinkle of pesto in this dish to make it fun and fresh Beef tagliatelle- 2nd favorite pasta, wasn't super heavy and loveeedd the flavors Elote pasta- super unique esp since I've never had corn in pasta, i did wish there was a little more kick in it bc felt like there was something slightly missing Chorizo spaghetti pasta- skip Cocktails are STRONG and none that we tried are really that sweet so skip if that's important to you

We came in today (a Friday night the week before Christmas) and had reserved a few hours ahead of eating. We were able to get a good seat in the corner so I could hear a bit better; it did get a bit loud later, but because of where we sat it wasn't bad at all. We ordered a bunch of small plates and an entrée along with dessert. We got the 3-Way Brussels, Carrots over Carrots, and the Grilled Artichokes. The carrots were pretty charred to the point that some were a bit difficult to eat, but they were very, very tasty regardless with the hummus. The Brussels sprouts were delectable, but honestly we could have done without the raw ones - the grilled and fried ones were the best. The grilled artichokes were the star of the show and were AMAZING. Juicy, tender, and delicious. We also got the Whole Roasted Branzino, which was really good - we just wished we had more of that salsa! It added a much-needed kick to the fish. There were a lot of bones, but that is to be expected with a whole fish! Finally, we got the Chocolate Ravioli, which was nice, hot and, as promised, very nutella-ey. IMO, the vanilla ice cream saved it from being too overwhelming in terms of richness. Overall, we had a wonderful time and a really good meal. The portions were perfect for sharing and we both felt that everything we ordered was delicious.

Started with the Tropical Sour Mocktail. It was bright, refreshing, and perfectly balanced with a subtle citrus tang. A great opener. The Scallops Crudo was delicate and fresh, paired with cucumber, radish, microgreens, and crispy corn kernels in a light, citrusy broth. The Arugula & Parm Salad was simple but well-executed with generous shaved parmesan and a light vinaigrette. The Braised Beef Tagliatelle was rich, savory, and comforting. The pasta was tender, and the beef was fall-apart soft, all brought together by a buttery sauce and parmesan. The Carrot Cake was moist, well-spiced, and topped with a luscious frosting and a slice of candied fig for a nice finishing touch. The Chocolate Ravioli with Nutella and Ice Cream was surprisingly great! Crispy on the outside, warm and gooey inside with rich Nutella around to add-on, perfectly paired with creamy vanilla ice cream. It was unique, indulgent, and hands down one of the best dessert bites I've had in a while. Service was warm and the vibe was upscale but relaxed, towards later the night they also dimmed the lights as well.

What a gem! We have passed by a bunch and finally had time to stop in for dinner last weekend. We had a nice welcome when we walked in and we loved our bottle of wine. The server helped us pick a delicious appetizer, the pork belly and wow it was so flavorful. Then we were both trying to figure out what to eat and he told us we had to try the lamb ragu pasta and the bolognese. Both were SO GOOD we will be back for more!! The dessert options were slim but the chocolate raviolis were amazing!

The water tastes soapy ? I asked for a new glass thinking it was just the cup but it was 100% the water itself. I squeezed a lemon in to mask the taste but when she refilled my cup it came right back. Maybe it's instead a flavoring they're adding ?? I don't know but it wasn't good Pasta was underwhelming for price. The appetizer was good though, sweet dough with a lot of cheese !

I feel like Mastrantos is good but has the potential to be great. They have a really good and unique menu but somehow I've never heard of this place and it seems like it is flying under everyone else's radar too (we were the only ones in the entire restaurant on a Tuesday evening). The vibe inside was very nice and the service was friendly. We got the carrots over carrots, the goat cheese tortellini, and the h town chorizo carbonara. The carrots were good. Both pastas were good, I preferred the carbonara, was a really unique and fun twist. The goat cheese tortellini was good and had a lot of fun flavors combined but ultimately it ended up being a bit too salty and almost sour at times. Overall I was intrigued and would return to try some other pastas and drinks.

We came to this quaint restaurant after happy hour without reservations to see if we could get a table. It was a Friday night so we weren't too sure if we would be able to be seated, especially because there is very limited seating inside. We sat at the bar for about 15 minutes and were able to get a table. The host and servers were great and made sure that we were kept up to date on the status of our table and made sure we had everything we needed throughout the night. Our server was also very honest about portion sizes and flavors which was incredibly helpful as we made our choice on what to order. The drinks were pretty decent but the pasta was the star of the show. They had some really great pasta options that we absolutely loved. We ordered the Taleggio filled Scarpinocc pasta (my personal favorite), the potato gnocchi, and the beef ragu bolognese and we were all very pleased with our dishes. We also ordered the Grilled butcher's cut which was slightly overcooked and I'm not a huge fan of yucca, but was decent overall.

What a wonderful surprise! A definite winner. The server was attentive and suggested some of the items that would be suitable for a vegetarian. Ordered the tomato starter and it was delicious - the mixture of flavors and textures was perfect. We asked for, and received, some freshly-baked bread to mop up all the flavors. Next up was the sweet potato and gorgonzola pasta - again, a great combination of flavours and well presented. The dessert - mango mousse looked like some culinary masterpiece and was so tasty. The mousse and the chocolate with the almond base gave a great mixture of flavors. I heard they will be changing up some of the menu - we will defintely be going back. read more

I was looking for a new place to try in the Heights area and stumbled upon this place. We went here for my birthday dinner and were very pleased with the experience! The service was great, the atmosphere was so cozy and beautiful, and the food was amazing! We got a tortellini appetizer, Bolognese pasta, and the chorizo and egg carbonara. All was incredible. We will definitely be coming back to this place and want to recommend it to others. Times are tough during covid times, and we hope this place gets a lot of business so it can stay afloat. read more

Has to be one of my favorite restaurants in town! The food is delicious but more importantly the staff is amazing. Always friendly and eager to see their clients happy and satisfied. A must try is the passionfruit cocktail, pasta carbonara (with chorizo!), three way Brussels and my absolute favorite carrot over carrot hummus. (**ask for addition/substitution of grilled broccoli and cauliflower to dip in hummus) read more

Double wow! We had the tomato appetizer with yogurt, balsamic, etc. Great departure from the usual tomato and burrata that is on all menus. Delicious wine!!! My husband had the Bolognese and I had a forest mushroom pasta. Both were made with hand made pasta and were outstanding! The atmosphere is fun and current and cozy. The music is great but not too loud. The owners are both present and filling in where they are needed. So charming. I don't think you will be disappointed. Can't wait to come back for breakfast! read more

I travel extensively on business. I've eaten at some very good restaurants, including several Michelin star restaurants and I can tell you this is one of the best in the country. The menu is limited intentionally by the owner and each dish is carefully selected and artfully presented. The amazing thing is everything I've had is oustsndung, which is very difficult for a restaurant and a testament to the owners commitment to quality. If you're unsure of what to try, just go with the owner's recommendation. You won't be disappointed! read more

Took my family to Mastrantos tonight and to put it nicely, it was awful. It took at least an hour for the food to ultimately come out and when it did 2 of the dishes were luke warm at best. Flavor wise there was also much to be wanted. Salt was no where to be found in the dishes, nor were any other distinct flavors. Toward the end of the meal someone approached the table (I imagine a manager) and specifically asked how my dish was. I said it was just okay but didn't want to make a fuss. He continued a line of questioning consisting of "did you taste the wine? Did you taste the honey? How about the cheese?" I was surprised to find out there was any wine, cheese, or honey in my dish. Despite me answering "No" to all his questions he left us with an "Awesome, Awesome." Needless to say, my meal was anything but "awesome, awesome." read more

Ok, so we had the restaurant weeks special. We both started out with the greens salad. The salad was creative, but it had too way much salt to the point that it was really off-putting. You should not be able to feel the crunch of salt crystals between your teeth. Then we had the Chicken Pozole...also very salty. At this point we were thinking this restaurant was going to be a loser...our main was the salmon, very nice with great flavor. Lastly we finished with the dessert. Both the chocolate cake and passionfruit mousse were amazing. All in two homeruns and two misses. I would go again, but request no salt topped on the salad (if I get it at all). I would skip the soup as well. The salmon was excellent, and I recommend it. Ambience is nice and the drinks are good but not great...cocktails lack some creativity. read more

One of the best dining experiences I have had in Houston in a while. Husband and I sat at the chefs table and loved it! Even though it was in the action of the chefs, it still felt cozy and we had a great time chatting with the chef about the menu. Staff was exceptional so I hope they can keep it up as I feel that's where many restaurants start strong but can't keep the pace of great customer service. The impression you get from the outside/branding which seemed a little cold/stark doesn't match the restaurant because you walk in and it's one of the coziest restaurants in the heights! All the food was delicious and wine selection was great! We will definitely be back!! read more

We were excited to go here for my husband's birthday as every time we have passed by, the restaurant looks full. For my birthday I searched for a "new and hot" restaurant that could have the potential to blow me away. Mastrantos did not disappoint. Their challenge was combining a menu for two vegetarian guests along with items to satisfy the other two whom are carnivores. Another challenge was that the food had to be perfect when served at my home. Xavier Godoy, Mastrantos founder, chose an excellent menu mixed with taste and imagination worthy of the occasion. Thoughtful and careful was their service, from bagging to serving, each dish perfectly preserved for a short trip home, and with labeled ítems to help take away any chance of confusion. The two pastas, the risotto, beef dish and Brussels sprouts, along the appetizers were all amazing. I now can't wait for a next opportunity to dine in. Such tasty food with a worthy presentation must be enjoyed the way it was meant to be enjoyed. Thank you everyone at Mastrantos who helped give me one of the best meals of the year. read more

Great spot for dinner in the heights, but don't sleep on the breakfast/brunch. Hands down the best scrambled eggs in Houston. Seriously. Potatoes and the scratch biscuit were amazing. Great coffee too. This place is certain to become a crazy busy brunch spot. read more

My son brought us here for brunch to celebrate my birthday, and what a delightful experience it was! The food was sooo good and very creative. I have never had carrot hummus and it was topped with baby roasted carrots...delicious! The avocado toast is huge and so tasty; the bread/toast is delicious and hearty. We tried several dishes and all were excellent, as were the fresh pastries. Lovely environment, attentive staff. Really enjoyed!! read more

We had breakfast here this morning and it was absolutely delicious. My wife ordered the Heights Sunrise - eggs, bacon, potatoes and a biscuit. All spot on. I had the Arepas - also great! It's order at the counter but we had someone come check on us multiple times while sitting outside. Great service! We will be back to try it for dinner. read more

This was our first time trying this restaurant and won't be back. Although the food was average, It was not worth over $100, pre-tip. Also, during our meal, the waiter gave us additional menus that had BLOOD on them. When I pointed this out to another staff member, all I got in return was, "Oh," then he went back to chatting with his friends at the bar and pouring them drinks. We (2 people) also ordered the spritz and one glass of wine. We each got a taste of a wine before ordering; however, when I asked for another taste before ordering one more glass I was told only 2 tastings per table. If I pay over $100 on a meal and about $10-15 per drink I would like to get something I enjoy. I understand you don't want to give away your product. You are a business and need to make money. But if I get to taste a product and like it, I might order more, right? And remember that staff member talking to his friends at the bar? He was pouring their drinks very liberally, letting them taste whatever they wanted. Let's be fair, here. One more thing...salt on everything! On the table, plates, and food. Too much. read more

We let him guide the entire tasting and didn't feel rushed. He gave us the back story and time to have enjoy the wines amongst ourselves. Not your average tasting in which I was here for and although you aren't able to purchase the wines, that just gives you a reason to return.

We initially had a table that was not near a heat lamp, however an employee came over and let us know that we could switch to a table near the heat lamp which was appreciated because it was chilly. Our server was Laura. She was nice and funny. They had $25 flight specials. I went with the Sayanara Flight which had white wines. I really enjoyed them and they weren't too sweet. My friend had an NA wine which she enjoyed. We ordered the Truffle Fries and Meatballs. Both dishes were tasty. I enjoyed the aioli that came with the fries. They had discounted wines for purchase. Not all bottles were 50% off, however the gentleman that we spoke to went ahead and gave me a 50% discount on both the rosé and pinot grigio that I purchased which was so appreciated! It seems like there are quite a few businesses around town that are closing. I'm sad to see Mutiny go, but I'm glad my friend and I got to dine in on their final night.

I often pass by it going through a shortcut to I-45 and sometimes going home around the area. It's literally a 5-minute drive. I booked reservations Friday since I saw they opened up the 31st on Resy. It wasn't earlier in the week, but I knew it was the last day, and my friend and I really wanted to try. I'm glad we made reservations because they were at capacity (150 person capacity) and weren't taking any walk ins. We got there early cause Resy suggested checking out the Tasting Room before or after the reservation time. We got there about an hour earlier, and the host said he didn't know anything about that except that the Tasting Room area was used for events. Interesting. We were seated earlier on the patio on this freezing evening. At first, we were at a table that didn't have a heat lamp, but when one freed up, they were so nice to suggest that we move closer to the heat lamp since they saw us shivering. Lol. We were thankful for that. I wore fleece lined jeans and brought gloves and a beanie anyway having been in the below freezing winter in London. Laura was our server and was kind and funny. So was this other guy who checked in every now and then. He made light of their last day situation. The dining area is so beautiful inside. I love the limestone-looking interior and chandeliers. Reminds me of Fredericksburg or something. They had many large groups and a few small groups of friends or couples dining on this last day. Way to go out with a bang. A lot of the wines were selling out or already sold out around 7-8 pm. We tried the truffle fries and Sicilian meatballs with focaccia bread. I like the thick cut of the fries and the black garlic aioli. It reminded me of yuca fries. The Sicilian meatballs were a bit small, peppery and salty. I wish the marinara was a little more tart. The focaccia helped cut through the saltiness. I had 2 glasses of the NA Sauvignon blanc which was light and a little tart. They ran out of the NA red blend. My friend ordered Sayonara, one of their farewell flights which were aptly named for "goodbye". It was a great night on the patio but chilly. My friend purchased a rosé and a Pinot Grigio as part of their Last Sail wines. Actually, the Pinot Grigio wasn't part of the sale, and he was going to take off 20%, but he also made it 50% off. So nice!! I'm glad we got to try them on their last day. Bon voyage, Mutiny.

The pastas are an absolute delicacy. I love the mood and ambiance this place gives off. It's been a while since I've left a restaurant as satisfied as I did tonight. Went there with my family and we basically shared everything. I'm not sure there was a single item that wasn't exquisite. I normally don't like coconut, however the coconut curry was phenomenal.
