Food was real authentic Italian, and tasted very nice. The service was good with a normal ambiance.

What a hidden gem! Food: - calamari and shrimp: a classic. It was delicious and lightly battered. Sadly it doesn't come with marinara sauce so we ordered spicy marinara (which was actually spicy and very delicious. Def get marinara on the side no matter what you order) - avocado and tomato bruschetta: good but not amazing. We ended up using the crispy tasty sourdough bread for the ricotta and charred carrots - ricotta and charred carrots: flavorful. Needs a vessel to spread the ricotta on (like the sourdough from the bruschetta lol) - Margherita pizza: delicious. Very light and the crust is so crispy and thin (get the marinara sauce to dip the crust). - farro salad: omg so good. We wanted something fresh with our mains and this paired really well with the pasta and pizza - pappardelle and pheasant pasta: my favorite dish of the evening. SO good. I'd go back for this pasta. The flavor was incredible and the quality of the pasta itself was 10/10. Def recommend. - panna cotta: perfection. We were so stuffed by the end of the meal that we couldn't indulge in this perfect dessert but from what we could eat, it was def delicious! Service: - Gustavo was our waiter. He did an excellent job and was very knowledgeable about the food. He had great suggestions and was always available. The overall service was perfection. Water was constantly filled. Multiple waiters came by the check on us. Food came out promptly and in a timely manner (appetizers first then mains with no rush). Despite it being a Saturday evening with lots of customers circling through, we didn't feel rushed to leave. Ambiance: - cozy and rustic vibes. Semi fancy. Perfect for date night! - people were actually talking to each other. Nobody was taking selfies. Nobody was loud and obnoxious. Nobody was snapping pics of their food (unless you're Yelp-ing like me LOL). Everyone around us were enjoying their food and their company. I didn't see anyone on their phones! Will I come back? YES. This is one of my favorite celebratory restaurants in Houston. It's cozy, romantic, has fantastic service, and reasonable prices for the high quality food they offer. Definitely waiting for the day they get some kind of award. I've been more times than I can remember and sampled several different things off the menu, but the favorites I keep coming back to are bufala caprese, the burrata, lemon, & bottarga bruschetta, the prosciutto, fontina, and truffle grilled cheese, the cacio e pepe, and the bolognese. If I had to pick an app and a main for just me, I'd probably go the bruschetta and grilled cheese (as long as my husband is getting the bolognese and I can steal from him!) I've also had the panna cotta, tiramisu, and budino. All delicious, but the tiramisu is my favorite! Oh, and in case any gluten free diners are searching, my mom is severely gluten intolerant (borderline celiac) and has never had trouble here. read more

This is the second time I've had to deal with spotty service. We were told we had to wait 10 min for our reservation although they moved pretty quickly once I told them that my mom was disabled. The food itself was ok. The marinara for the misto fritto was watery. Also, just an fyi - some of the pizzas are white and they don't mention it at all so it can be an un fun surprise when your pizza arrives dry as a bone. The mushroom ravioli was good / very truffle forward. Also loved the tagliolini. It's something that is always a winner. Cheesy with some floral notes. I also always get the carrots with yogurt. The general vibe is so cozy and intimate here, blending humble and refined elements - plain wood tables and ordinary glassware, with high quality items therein. I would recommend every item I tried. The charred carrots over lemon pistachio yogurt was far more flavorful than it sounds - a perfect balance of the earthy nuts and char with the tangy citrus yogurt. The Tagliatelle al Ragu Bolognese is a generous serving of their freshly made pasta and the sauce is so satisfying and tasty. The Mille Foglie is light and not too sweet, a delicate way to end the meal after the meaty entree. Don't forget the espresso with a lemon twist! The wine list is also good. They have a good selection of Italian wines. There is some room for improvement in terms of timely and organized service attention - I had to flag down the servers a few times, which feels awkward. read more

Dark chocolate tartufo - I was excited to try it but I think my expectation was too high. The chocolate ice cream melts pretty quickly. The dark chocolate shell too sweet. This is a great italian spot for an intimate date or *small* group dinner. The restaurant has a rustic vibe and is cozy. The staff is attentive, with frequent water refills and quick service. We usually get a cheeseboard with three cheeses, which is accompanied by warm, fresh bread, honey, and a marmalade. Do yourself a favor and say yes whey ask if you want olive oil on the side (they use a great quality oil!) Have been meaning to try Vinoteca for years now, and while I'm glad I did, it was just ok. The biggest downer was the service. Our waiter was very nice, as well as the crew that helped out, but there is a distinction between attentive vs intrusive. Was having a business meeting, albeit with a great friend, and the interruptions in the middle of our convo was endless. Middle of a business detail...interrupted just to clear a wine glass. Middle of the next discussion, interrupted to ask to clear a plate we were actually still working on. Next topic...you guessed it, interrupted again. Was the kitchen running out of stemware and plates? Again, they were very nice people, but just need to read the room and your guests' dining experience better. On to the food. The really good stuff was the bruschette of burrata, lemon, and botarga...excellent. As was one of the specials of the day, the cod ravioli...very nice. The altro of truffle egg toast was superb. Not only was the yolk kept creamily good, the aroma coming from the perfectly melted, crispy cheese was pungently beautiful. Last and not least, I'm always a sucker for good seared shishito peppers. The not so great dishes of the had to be the suppli and the pumpkin goat cheese crochette. The suppli tasted like taking the pizza you had in grade school, scraping off the toppings, ball them and fry them. Really...not an exaggeration. The crochette was just bland mush, not enough body to the crust to give any textural component to the bite. read more

Trying to make it a special night for my partner's birthday, we made a reservation here about a month in advance. The ambiance of this place is wonderful - cute little mom and pop style restaurant, with warm, cozy vibes. However, as vegetarians, the food left much to be desired, despite a plentiful selection (and we are grateful for the numerous vegetarian options!). The best items of the night were pumpkin and goat cheese crochettes but it would have elevated the appetizer if there was a sauce paired with it. Both of our other appetizers, the brussel sprouts and shishito peppers felt a little void of complex flavor and tasted a lot like the oil it was tossed in. For our entree we ended up sharing the eggplant parmigiana which we were surprised that it was not breaded. While the charred style of the eggplant was interesting, we were grateful to have shared the entree as the taste was a little repetitive without much nuance. The desserts were not worth it as they all. Crème brûlée- the custard consistency was too mushy and grainy Donuts - the biggest disappointment as they needed to change the oil Tiramisu - nothing to write home about The fourth I can't even remember so obviously we weren't impressed. Took my spouse back and tried another pizza (on the special) which we enjoyed, meatballs (large but too dense), charred carrots (surprisingly delicious with the lemon yogurt sauce and pistachios) and the calamari (nothing to write home about). We had the baby artichokes for an appetizer and they were delicious and cooked perfectly with a hint of lemon. I had the bolognese and it was great. This is my favorite pasta so I am a harsh critic but I really enjoyed it. The only complaint would be the wine spritz cocktail. It is wine based but you could not taste the wine in it. We came to Vinoteca Poscol after an online recommendation of their pheasant pasta. We did order than in addition to the mussels, and for dessert a Mille feuille and an affogato. The service was adequate but the waiter kept rushing to take our plates out of the way which prevented me from truly enjoying the whole meal. The food itself was quite good, flavorful, and fresh. The pasta tasted delicious and the Mille feuille was great too. Unfortunately their coffee service is subpar to the rest of the experience. Their espresso is weak and for that reason the cappuccino that I ordered and the affogato tasted bland. The affogato was served inappropriate also. When it was served, the espresso had already been poured over the ice cream, which means the ice cream was already melted and the espresso was cold. Very disappointing coffee service which kind of ruined the overall experience. The waitstaff is friendly and try to accommodate to your needs but they have not been trained on PROPER table service. It self like the service you would expect at a fast food place. Apparently the owner hates to take advice so I'm dropping this here so others can read about their shortcomings since he's unwilling to hear them in person. read more

I love this place. Alex the bartender is so sweet and he has been with the company for ten years I believe, when Dolce Vida was around. I really love the specials so I tend to order from daily specials board and they're always different. There will be an appetizer a pasta and a meat special. I really love their pizza. It is super thin and they use really fresh ingredients. I typically get the margarita, but I've tried them all in like them. They have this calamari appetizer that's unbreaded and served with I believe fava beans, and it's in a Br spicy tomato-based soup. it is so good !! it's probably my favorite thing there. They actually have a lot of veggie appetizers they make cruciferous vegetables taste really good . I really like the beets I think it served with horseradish, and I really like the roasted carrots and pistachio. Another thing that's great on the menu is the truffle egg open faced sandwich . It was really solid, I just wished the oil had seasoning in it, but isn't a dealbreaker. We made a reservation on Resy but came early and were seated immediately; it was surprisingly not that busy on a Saturday night. The ambiance was intimate and cozy - perfect for our date night. We started with the fried baby artichokes (which took me back to eating artichokes in Rome), and the "grilled cheese" prosciutto, fontina & black truffle - the grilled cheese, while not "authentic", was PHENOMENAL and one of the top bites of the night. For mains, we ordered the funghi pizza and baked tagliolini "harry's bar" bechamel & prosciutto. Both were solid, with flavorful mushrooms on Roman style pizza, and creamy bechamel in a hearty pasta dish. The tagliolini was a large portion that I would recommend to share with the table, as the creamy flavor profile did become tiresome. Service was good overall and we enjoyed a nice evening with Vinoteca Poscol. The restaurant does have its own gated small parking lot, but otherwise, there is street and paid garage parking around the area. Vinoteca Poscol used to be located on Westheimer closer to Dunlavy but they have moved to the present location by Assassin's tattoo for quite some time now and let me tell you, the food quality is still as great as ever! If you are lucky, you will find parking in their tiny lot. There is plentiful street parking around the neighborhood but as always be careful parking and read the signs for times, permits, and tow away zones. We were lucky to get reservations for their 7:30 dinner time. From the pesce we order the baby octopus with cannellini beans. It was served in a soupy base with baby octopus and white beans. It had a fresh seafood flavor with notes of Middle Eastern herbs. Maybe it was inspired by south Italian cooking. I am not sure but it was a bit on the salty side but paired really well. Next we got the bruschetta for all. It was a massive carb filled heaven consisting of chicken liver patè; burrata, lemon & bottarga; avocado, tomato, basil & balsamico; whipped ricotta & peppers; and fava beans & pecorino. My absolute favorite was the lemon and bottarga and my least favorite was the fava beans and pecorino. The chicken liver pate was delicious and was like one of those things that you are either going to love or hate. From altro, we got the truffle egg toast. It is a massive toast that has a beautiful golden yellow egg yolk inside that oozes out after you cut into it. The truffle is delicately placed on top which lends it's flavor to the rest of the dish quite beautifully. We each got ourselves an entree. I tried everyone's food and I will say that I was really impressed by the pasta in my pheasant dish. The pappardelle were equal length cut ribbons which were cooked to an aldente perfection. The pheasant was tender and the meat was easily pulled apart to touch. I just wish that this dish had some other flavor because while it was delicious, it was a bit too simple. Definitely something I would want on a cool spring evening. I honestly think the real winner of the night were all the desserts. The tiramisu, the jammy dates, and the zappole were all as good as it gets. I have such a sweet tooth and if I am craving a real Italian dessert, I am definitely coming back here just for these if not for everything else.
