The restaurant has old school New Jersey Italian vibes - low ceiling, a little moody ambiance - but none of the attitude. The staff is super friendly, and we were welcomed as we were (we had hoped to eat at a sister establishment but they sold out of what we wanted). Mimo's offers a great selection of Italian inspired apps, three well appointed pizzas, a few varied and surprising options for pasta dishes, and some mains. Items we tried: Pane - delicious Roasted Carrot Pizza - AMAZING, A little spicy, but definitely something we would order again. Pastas we ordered initially came out cold - our incredible waiter immediately corrected the issue. But from a flavor profile - Pansotti - sooooo delicious. You'd never guess that it was a vegetarian option - the mushrooms were so meaty. The delicate pouches with the spinach and ricotta were heavenly. Pappardelle - The lamb braised sauce had a depth of flavor that could rival any restaurant in Italy. My only tiny hope was that the pasta would have been served aldente, it was a little overcooked. Here's your proofread review: Arrived around 7:30 PM on a Saturday night. It wasn't too packed. We chose patio seating, which was nice because the interior is quite dim -- although I now have 7 mosquito bites. I overall thought the food was good but nothing was stellar. We ordered the house salad and Capicola, which was a mistake because flavor-wise they were nearly identical, the main difference being that the Capicola had meat. Both salads were well done and had a nice balance of flavor and freshness. I really enjoyed the fish -- lightly salted, nutty, and crispy -- but I added the lemon it came with, which made it bitter. Located in the East End (north of UH and I45), Mimo is pretty tucked away and easy to miss. The interior is pretty low key with dim lighting. For starters we ordered the croquette and the ricotta montato. I'm a big fan of the ricotta montato, the sweetness of the pear, the creamy ricotta paired with the saltiness of ciabatta toast was an excellent combo. For mains, we tried a few pastas and a margarita pizza. My top two were the pappardelle and the paccheri. The pastas were cooked perfectly and the sauces were rich and flavorful. The gnocchi in red sauce was also pretty good, but a little bland in comparison. The Neapolitan style margaritas pizza was also solid, but slightly soggy in the center. Went here last night for an early Valentine's Day dinner. We use the InKind app and had picked up some gift cards from Costco, noticed this spot was on InKind, and decided to check it out -- really glad we did! First off, it's located in a cool little pocket on the East End inside Tlaquepaque Market. It looks a bit dark from the outside at night, but once you step in, it's warm and cozy. There's also plenty of parking, which is always a plus. My wife and I shared the pane along with their Valentine's Day prix fixe menu, which included an appetizer, salad, pasta, and dessert. The pane came out warm - perfectly crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside.The starter was a scallop with pomegranate vinaigrette that was light, bright, and a great way to open up the palate. The salad (I think it was purple kale, but I forgot to ask) was fresh and well-balanced. For the main, we had a pasta dish topped with a ribeye meatball that featured a bold sauce with tons of flavor, and the meatball had a subtle kick to it. Dessert was a cherry gelato that was simple, refreshing, and the perfect way to end the meal. They also have a solid wine selection, which paired nicely with dinner. Really hidden and assuming Italian spot in the Eastend area (north of UH). It's on Telephone and Lockwood but hidden in the back. The interior is inside an older one story building and has a bar and dimly lit dining. The menu comprises of apps, pastas, and some main dishes in addition to pizza. Their starters are tasty and come in fairly small portions. I got their gnocchi as a main and it was very tender with a nicely prepared red sauce; the portion was a bit small for my liking but the taste was there. Their pizza was also done nicely; it's a traditional Neapolitan style with red sauce, mozzarella, basil and a thin crust. This establishment is hidden and is not a spot you'll just stumble on if you're not familiar with the area and what is around. There is plenty of parking right outside in a private lot, no need to worry with valet or street parking here. The outside is not much to write home about, but when you step inside, it's quaint and cozy. It has a low key, simple and minimal rustic Italian feel. Service - 4.5* We didn't have hardly any time with the menu before we were being asked if we knew what we wanted. That said, the waitress was very helpful and knew alot about most of the dishes. She recommended several from each section of the menu dependent on what you were looking for and size of plate. It did take a bit longer than normal to get our dishes but they had two giant parties in the main dining area so that may have contributed to it. Food and Drink - 4* The wine menu is extensive and I'm certain anyone would find something. There's some basic beers for those who maybe aren't wanting wine. On the appetizer side, the Finocchiona pizza was excellent - crispy, fennel forward, ricotta comes through. On the entree side pappardelle with lamb was good. The lamb is certainly the highlight of the dish. The gnocchi was great and pasta wise, was the preferred of the two. Cost - 4.5* Subjectively, the pricing is reasonable for the dish sizes. I'll leave it at that. Overall - 4.25* There were plenty of dishes I saw that I'd come back to try and next time I'll bring some friends along so we can try more. It's hard to describe how good Mimo is - each time I go I'm always impressed with the fantastic food, cozy ambiance, and knockout service, all packaged within a gem of a restaurant tucked into an unassuming collective along Telephone Road. The starters are thoughtful and well-balanced - on my latest visit, I enjoyed the prosciutto and pear plate, a wintery homage to the classic pairing of prosciutto and melon, as well as a large dish of buttery, herbaceous steamed mussels (which to be fair, are hard to mess up). The housemade pastas are wonderfully tender and hold up well to all the bold sauces and ragùs (the lamb pappardelle always hits). Truthfully, I never make it to the mains section of the menu before the antipasti, pasta, and wine fill me up, but I promise y'all and myself I will make it there one day :) Capping off the whole experience is warm, efficient service - the team there is accessible and knowledgeable, eager to share their favorites from the menu or to top off a recently emptied glass of wine. Finding delicious Italian food in Houston can be a challenge, but look no further because Mimo has got you covered! Was excited to see this place on the EatDrinkHTX list this year. The portions are slightly smaller for this menu but for $25 the 3 courses was a superb deal. I will certainly come back to try other things. There is plenty of parking. The restaurant says "ristorante" on top and there is a small blue neon sign that says "Mimo." The interior is very cozy, it's quiet and comfortable with nice lighting. Could definitely be a place for a fancy celebratory meal but can also be casual. The service is good! The waiter was very attentive and easy going. The pace is very laid back so you aren't rushed at all. They start off by giving you a little complimentary bite. Ours was little crostini with a whipped ricotta and I think a drizzle of honey and a nut. Lovely bite! We added an order of the fritters, which are fried to perfection, so crispy and savory. The apps we tried for eatdrinkHTX were the whipped ricotta and crochette. The ricotta was delish, I loved the figs and the bits of prosciutto, could eat a whole bowl of this. The crochettes were also yummy and I wish I had 10 of them! Also fried really nicely and not too salty. For second courses, we tried the fettuccine and the Cacio e Pepe. The fettuccine had a red sauce with meat, it was a little spicy! The cacio e pepe also had a little kick. I appreciated that it was just the right amount of salt. All the pasta was cooked al dente with a pleasant chew. I think you cannot go wrong with any of the pasta dishes here. For third courses, tried the zeppole and biscotti. Zeppole were fluffy and not overly sweet. The biscotti was fun, it came with a Marsala wine to pour on top which paired nicely! My family and I split a variety of dishes including the skillet bread, brussel sprouts, rapini fritti, croquettes, gnocchi, fettuccine, pappardelle, tortelloni, and eggplant milanese. As a fellow server, I was deeply disappointed with the service we received from our server, Jonatan C., on Tuesday night. The restaurant was not super busy, and the food was decent, so we were willing to come back. However, based on this experience, I will definitely not return. Jonatan was completely absent throughout our entire dinner. The water refills were abysmal, and it took way too long to get a refill. One of the bustiers even had to come to refill for us. When we received the food, he didn't check on us until dessert. Even when he dropped off the dessert menu, which I wanted to try the tiramisu, he didn't come back for another 10-15 minutes. By then, my group and I were just ready to leave and get dessert somewhere else. We didn't want the possibility of waiting another long time to receive the bill and close out the tab. We knew it was going to be automatic gratuity, but we weren't expecting less than bare minimum service. If it was an automatic 20%, we should have gotten at least decent service. read more

I'm surprised that this restaurant isn't filled with customers- especially during happy hour. Mimo has some solid deals for both food and drinks during 5-6 pm! When you first roll up to the area, there is plenty of parking here so that's always a relief! I love the restaurant's exterior with the pink gates and plants. And when you walk inside, it feels very cozy. Although I didn't get a chance to check out the patio, it looks nice from what I saw. For Happy Hour, I ordered the Crochette, Fritters, and La Pizzetta. And I also got to try a sample of the Amuse Bouche which was super yummy! Out of the three, the Fritters were my favorite. The corn and zucchini made this dish pretty sweet but it was balanced with the parmesan cheese on top. I loved how it was perfectly fried- there's a lot of spots that have a really dense/heavy batter but not the Fritters from Mimo! As for the La Pizzetta, the dough is delicious and made in house! The only thing I wish was different is the texture in the middle of the pizza (it was pretty wet from the sauce/cheese which made the dough soft and the toppings were falling off) but the crust/outer part of the dough was perfect and the flavors were all there. Last but not least, the Crochette! Just like the Fritters, the crochette was fried perfectly and also had the same delicious parmesan cheese on top. The salsa verde sauce underneath gave it a nice kick. In total, I spent $25 for these three dishes which is pretty good! Aside from the food, the service was amazing here. We are delighted the East End continues to attract more restaurants and with a variety in cuisine. Saturday night, I had one of my top dining experiences of the year. It was one of those meals that - as we were dining - I was planning our return, because savoring each bite in the present was not enough. I wanted to know when I could expect this magnificent meal again. And truth be told, we'll probably be weekly patrons. Our party of four started with the green pea hummus (stracciatella, evoo, toasted hazelnuts, greens, and toast) along with the gorgonzola dolce montato (whipped, black mission figs, walnut brittle, speck, rosemary honey, and ciabatta toast). In the spirit of family-style dining, the sharing of plates continued with the gnocchi (with marinara, parmigiano, basil); cacio e pepe (loved the use of rigatoni instead of spaghetti); bucatini with shrimp; paccheri (castleveltrano pesto, pistachio, mozzarella) ...And for our sole meat dish, the agnello (pan seared bone-in loin chop with romanesco, black peppercorn) had the meat eaters at the table eying every last drop of the saucey plate. Vegetarians and pescatarians: There are so many options, and they're all so delectable, best wishes on deciding what to order! (Again, family-style is the way to go, but I can see why someone wouldn't dare share a bite of their dish). For desserts, we split the panna cotta (vanilla bean, cara cara orange, lemon, mint) and the cioccolato salato (fennel cookie crumble, maraschino cherries, mascarpone cream). Two apps, four pastas, one meat dish, two desserts, and two bottles of wine came out to ~$300 with tax and tip. That's unheard of these days, especially for this level and quality of food, service, wine selection, and cozy ambiance. We had a really nice, cozy Wednesday night dinner here - certainly a hidden gem that deserves more hype and visibility! We were one of a few tables eating in the restaurant that night, although I understand it gets very busy on weekends. Sort of not-obvious to find, but look for the small blue neon sign n the back of the strip center of colorful buildings. Tons of parking, hooray! For food, they recommend you go family-style and order a few starters, couple of pastas, and a main protein to share. We opted for the sweet potato, crochettes, and fritter starters - my favorite was probably the crochettes, but all were really delicious. For pastas we did the fettucine and cacio e pepe - both were so good, but would say you gotta order the cacio e pepe; it was so rich and dreamy. For protein we ordered the gallina cornish hen, and it was also delicious - perfectly cooked to be tender and on a lovely bed of cauliflower mash. This restaurant is located in the same plaza as bohemeos. I missed the entrance twice, almost thrice. There's so much parking. Inside is very intimate and meticulously clean. We ordered the corn fritters, cacio e Pepe, the roasted red snapper, and the panda cotta. The amuse bouche was amazing. Bread, a nutty-soft cheese, pistachios, and honey. I could not get over how amazing the cheese was. Corn and zucchini fritters were delicious. Topped with honey and shaved romano. The corn was sweet and full of flavor. I didn't taste the zucchini at all but it was still a must try. I really wasn't expecting a lot from John's Cacio de Pepe. But to my surprise, it was actually better than planned. My friend said the pasta was just pasta. The roasted red snapper was cooked perfectly. Fish is so hard to get right and can get over cooked so easily. It was served on a piece of bread, with a slightly acidic red sauce. I liked the capers, onions, pepper, and leek (?). The star of the show was the panna cotta. I loved the vanilla bean at the bottom and top of the dish. The honey, cara cara orange, and a hint of mint. This was a dreamy dish. My friend said he was really shocked by how good it was. We are still talking about the fish and panna cotta the next day. It's been a while since I've been to a restaurant where the food, service, price and quality were in unison. read more

We came here for a fantastic Italian dinner! They're located in the Tlaquepaque Market but you can't see it off telephone road. Turn into the entrance where you see the Tlaquepaque Market sign and it will be across from Bohemeos in the back. There is a big private parking lot with plenty of spots. Everything was great from start to finish! The inside of the restaurant was clean and casual. They have an outdoor patio, which will open later in the year once summer and the heat wave is over. The service was great. Our waiter, Amir, was attentive to all the details! We also got an amuse bouche at the beginning. It was a slice of bread topped with artichoke, sprinkled with Parmesan and olive oil. It was a really great palate cleanser and way to start the meal! They also do happy hour everyday from 5-6 pm and all drinks are 50% off, so we ended up getting a bottle of wine with dinner. We ordered the: -scallop carpaccio (special of the day): topped with lemon, balsamic, micro greens, pine nuts. This was very light and refreshing. Scallops were fresh. -pappardelle: braised lamb, wild mushrooms, heirloom tomatoes, grana podano, herbs. This was a really flavorful and well made pasta! The lamb, mushroom, and tomatoes went so well together. -filet: 8 oz tenderloin roasted in rosemary and vino rosso, parmigiano mashed potato, wild mushrooms. We asked for rare and it was cooked prob more medium, so a little more cooked than I would have liked. They sliced the filet versus cooking it whole. The wild mushrooms and mashed potatoes were very good . -panna cotta: light and great way to end the meal! We will definitely be back here to try other items! A cute spot to grab high end italian in a non-pretentious setting. The food was overall good. We loved the scallops and the pasta. The remainder of the meal was above average but not necessarily something I would reorder. Service was knowledgeable and prompt. Prices were fair. Not super busy for a Saturday night but would recommend reservations just in case. Ample parking. Overall I would go back to try more pasta dishes and hopefully lunch! read more
