I am amazed at these reviews being so great? We ate there last night. It's more like a fast food place. The pics of plates on here are very deceiving! The food is served on a 3" by 5" plastic sort of bowl. The cold salad and hot food is all slopped together and served with two tiny slices of pita bread. I had the shrimp platter. The shrimp was tasty, but nothing to brag about. In fact we threw about a third of it in the trash, as it got boring after so many bites. My husband had the beef which he said was OK. They do add a lot of feta to the salad, which was nice. We felt the food was very overpriced for what you get compared to other Greek restaurants that are much better quality food where you actually get table service. We won't be going back. read more

Great concept with a menu with wide enough selection to please most but not too much to make it confusing. Food is fresh and the portion sizes are large enough to fill me up without feeling weighed down. The inside has a cool atmosphere and the staff is very friendly. The spicy feta hummus is great (go half cucumber sticks/half pita to dip) and the rice, salad, pitas and skewers are all very tasty. The spicy feta is great here. The steak salad as well as the shrimp pita are fantastic too. The staff is friendly. The only thing I don't like is the price. You can spend $20 just to get a steak salad. I think that is super high for this type of establishment...sort of in between fast food and sit down. read more

Mata's layout makes for quick and easy ordering; single file line, easy-to-read menu boards and quick counter service. The food is delicious - our party sampled excellently prepared kebabs, salad and rice - but for the price, the dining experience leaves something to be desired. Self-serve plastic silverware was a bit of a disappointment, as was the noise that constantly echoed despite the presence of relatively quiet diners. Being an avid fan of Mediterranean food I have to say this place is mediocre at best. My biggest issue is I ordered hummus(a very small portion for the price)and came to realize it doesn't come with pita,you have to order it separate. Being that any other place gives you pita with hummus this is unacceptable, you don't eat hummus wit a fork. Price wise they are on the expensive side for food that is ok on their best day. read more

I've been a few times and each time the steak is pretty dry. The rice has good flavor, but the portions are small. The side salad is very good and the falafel is good. They make the hummus there, which is unique. I've never tried it, though, so I don't know how it tastes. read more

Mata is an average "fast casual" Mediterranean restaurant. The layout is just like a chipotle. The food was fine, portion size is Okay, and value is just Okay. Certainly not someplace to go out of your way for, but it is a reasonable spot for a quick meal. read more

Loved the food I got here, the hummus and falafel pita were both delicious and since I personally do not like tzatiki sauce they made an excellent recommendation to try the vinaigrette they have on my pita and it was awesome! The establishment was kept very clean and I found the decor to be quite appealing and it made for a relaxing meal. The staff was also very friendly and seem to enjoy working there which is always a nice thing to see when you enter a business for the first time. Really good food but the price alongside service isn't worth it. I've been in for lunch 5 or 6 times and have never had everything go smoothly. The food takes anywhere from 15 to 25 minutes if you order things differently (such as no onions or no tomatoes) but they always say 5 minutes or so and on several occasions they've taken upwards of 20 minutes making something and it still came out wrong but at that point it'd just been so long that I took whatever they gave me. I'd still recommend it but just make sure you have plenty of time to wait around. read more

We had the chicken kabobs with veg rice Greek salad and humus . This was some of the best Med. Food I have had in the area . My order for every thing was only 10 bucks . OMG ! YES THE SNOBS WILL SAY OH YOU HAVE TO ORDER AT THE COUNTER . Who cares the food is killer . Also the staff was way above friendly and excellent service . The decor is very modern and upbeat . Toughest steak kabob I have ever tried to eat. I do mean tried, more than half of it could not not be chewed up. Very small portion of meat with a few green pepper pieces about 1 inch square, maybe 2 red pepper pieces of the same size and a couple of thin tough pieces of onion. Taste was unappealing. Rice accompaniment was full of ground meat and spices somewhat reminiscent of sage and ? Somewhat like the desert inn but not! Could not get into it and took it home to the dog. Greek salad tasty and the best part of this meal but greasy and many hard lettuce stems that were rather large. Pita bread, good, soft but could it be any smaller? Two small wedges. A joke. I took my mother, who had the chicken and liked it except for the chicken which she declared, " strangely sweet" I wanted to just throw that food back to them but my mother was with me. I like food. I love Mediterranean food but this restaurant seems like a place on its way out. Why do I say this? Cheap meat, stingy portions is a place trying to save money because the ship is sinking. Best fast casual restaurant in the Canton/Jackson area. Delicious and healthy food, and it's actually fresher than Chipotle at about the same price. Amazing protein options and hummus. read more
