This review has been long overdue, and I'm so glad I finally had the chance to write it…read more About a year ago, I decided I wanted my boys to start jiu-jitsu. As a mom, I believe it's so important for children to learn basic self-defense not because I expect something bad to happen, but because I want them to have the confidence and skills to protect themselves if they ever need to. At first, my boys were nervous and intimidated. We visited a few schools before making a decision, but from the moment we walked into Teragi, we knew this place was different. Everyone made us feel like family. The professors and coaches are exceptional not only because of their experience and skill, but because they genuinely care about every child. They encourage, support, and meet each child where they are. I especially want to mention my youngest. Jiu-jitsu didn't come naturally to him at first, and he struggled to understand the techniques. The professors and coaches were incredibly patient and never made him feel like he was behind. They allowed him to learn at his own pace, and now it's amazing to see how much his confidence and skills have grown. That patience meant so much to our family. There's no pressure for kids to be the best. Every child learns differently, and the professors and coaches truly understand that. Since we homeschool, Teragi has become more than just a place to train. My boys have made wonderful friendships, and we've found an incredible community. I also have to mention how clean the academy is! It never has that old gym smell and is always welcoming. I've watched both of my boys grow not only physically, but mentally and emotionally. They're more confident, disciplined, and respectful. If you're on the fence about jiu-jitsu because you don't like the idea of your child being on the ground, I completely understand. I felt the same way. But the reality is that many real-life self-defense situations end up on the ground, and knowing what to do can make all the difference. Thank you, Teragi, for creating such an incredible environment for our children. We are so grateful to be part of the Teragi family, and I couldn't recommend this academy more.

The owners, professors, and coaches have cultivated a superb gym culture. This gym is safe, friendly, and supportive. The facility is modern and clean, and they've invested in a foam block subfloor beneath the mats for softer landings. As far as I know, this is the only gym in the area that offers women-only classes four times per week and a bi-monthly community open mat for gentlemen 40 years and older. My kids train here after school 4-5 days a week, and they love it. The kids' professors and coaches are experienced and amazing teachers. I'm especially thankful for the young coaches who were so patient and kind to my boys when they were hesitant and shy after first starting. And my pocketbook is especially thankful for the discounted rates for additional family members. If you're looking for a place where the whole family can train, grow, and feel welcome, I can't recommend Teragi highly enough.

But like swim, we think of this sport as a life skill, a sport that we want the boys to do for their lifetime. Coach Alex is patient and very thorough in his demonstrations and examples. The other instructors are just as wonderful in their instruction and flexibility in working with the kids. Life lessons of anti-bullying, social responsibility, and being a good citizen are discussed with the kids in here which is a huge bonus. The classes go at the right speed that doesn't intimidate or burn out my sons and encourages them while learning. There are advanced students here who probably compete or are looking to do that. My sons are athletic but not on the aggressive side and this dojo is perfect for them and all types of kids looking to learn and excel in this sport. Because of this, I do see my sons staying for the long run. We are in no rush to get belt stripes or compete - we want our boys to continue at their pace and be excited to go to class. The staff of Izabella and Analise are the best - always welcoming, friendly and helpful. They are the perfect representation of this dojo. If you're looking into martial arts for your kids, I highly recommend you give this place a try! I know they also have adult classes, and it looks like to be a responsible run dojo that adheres to the Gracie guidelines. I also love seeing all the girls in this sport! Thank you Coach Alex and team! Huge thumbs up!

Bottom Line Up Front: I give this gym 5 out of 5 stars --…read moreand that says a lot because I've been training in martial arts since 1995 and am a certified instructor in multiple systems. But let me break it down as to why it gets my seal of approval. What You'll Learn: Rounders offers multiple martial arts: Boxing, Muay Thai (kickboxing), Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Kali (a Filipino knife-fighting system), and Mixed Martial Arts (which combines striking, wrestling, and Jiu-Jitsu). In the past they have also offered wrestling and Judo. So there's something for everyone. Regardless of what class you pick, you'll learn how to protect yourself while getting a great workout. What You'll Gain: Like I mentioned, you'll get a killer workout in a safe and fun environment. According to some studies, you could burn anywhere between 300 to 800 calories in a single 1-hour kickboxing class. It's far more efficient (and fun!) than running on a treadmill. And the added bonus is that you'll learn self-defense along the way. Who You'll Meet: From co-owner Joe Kim to all the other instructors, the coaches here are physically talented, knowledgeable, and easy-going despite being deadly warriors. They create a positive atmosphere so that everyone -- from brand new rookies to combat sports veterans -- has fun while learning. And that trickles down through to the students, who are all supportive and welcoming. The Space: The gym is medium-ish in size compared to other gyms in the area; enough to hold one large group or two smaller sessions at the same time. The equipment is top notch. And the workout space is well maintained. There's also a small section for weight training, too. The Cost: I've visited other gyms with outrageous prices (like $200 a month for only Jiu-Jitsu!). Fortunately, tuition here is reasonably priced -- with options to drop-in, go month-to-month, or commit to 6 months or a full year. (The latter two doesn't mean you have to pay upfront, just that you'll be charged automatically for your chosen time frame and save more over the long term.) And considering those options give you unlimited classes for all of the martial arts classes, Rounders is totally worth it. Conclusion: Rounders MMA Fullerton is an ideal gym to join, whether you're looking to lose weight, learn some self-defense, or just belong to a cool community who will encourage and grow with you.

I tagged along and I'm glad I did. That was one of the most changing moments of my life. I met coach Dan and a few of the other guys that soon became my jiu jitsu family. Coach Dan. Man. I loved his slight accent, his morales, the way he knew where he stood. Being 16 years old and impressionable, he really helped mold me into the young lady I am today. He was never in it for the money. He coaches because he loves it. Definitely the BEST training you could get. He's hands down the best coach. The way he teaches and takes time with every student. His knowledge and years of experience. Starting jiu jitsu here was great. Stay loyal. Stay hungry to learn.
