We usually order takeout from here, but came in for an early Friday dinner with my husband while the kids were at their grandparents, and we're so glad we did. We were seated right away in a dining room that's separate from the bar, which made for a more relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. The service was incredibly friendly and welcoming from the start. The Portuguese wine was great at just $8 for a generous glass or $25 for a bottle. For apps, we started with the cold lobster cocktail $24 and lamb chops $25, both packed with flavor and cooked perfectly. For our main, we had the steamed lobster $28, which was fresh, tender, and delicious. Everything was done just right, and the prices across the board were very reasonable. Highly recommend, and we'll definitely be back!

Mateus has been a staple restaurant in the Queens Village neighborhood. I haven't been in a while but decided it was the perfect venue to host my daughter's holy communion luncheon. Sofia was a pleasure to work with and made the process simple. For the party I opted for the 4 course dinner package. The appetizers were delicious all my guests raved about the garlic shrimp. For the main course guest had a choice between steak, chicken Marsala, salmon and eggplant parmigiana. The mains were nice portion size and everyone raved about the food. I would definitely recommend them for hosting events. I'm looking forward to coming to just dine from the regular menu.

10/10, steak and lobster were too buttery and too juicy, spinach could use some more butter tho

Mateus is a family owned restaurant; a real gem in the neighborhood for many years. Welcoming faces, impeccable service, delicious food, warm and inviting atmosphere had been hosting us for many years. Sofia and her family is wonderful every time! We always leave wanting to come back! Thank you for wonderful moments!

We were looking for something different for dinner & stumbled upon Mateus. What a great little neighborhood spot! Service was excellent and attentive. Our paella and mariscada were very well made, delicious and generous. It was so much food that 3 people couldn't finish it.

In honor of my late Portuguese blend mother-in-law. We celebrated my eldest high school graduation. I booked the party room for 20 but only 15 were in attendance. Traffic was an issue on the Friday afternoon. I brought in sparkling cider for the toast as she is not yet 18. No issue with the bottle service charge. She was great at getting orders in the moment people arrived. She had even asked if we wanted to order appetizers ahead of our gathering. The cuisunecwss prepared upon ordering for a fresh hot delicious meal preceeded by a household and Portuguese rolls on the table. I had lobster ravioli and was quite happy with it. We bought in a red velvet cake from a custom baker which was cut, served and distributed in excellent fashion. Wonderful time was had by all. Great food, great people make a great time.

Our waitress was responsive to whatever we needed. The prices are a little high for the portion size, but the food is great quality. My vinho verde was a nice size pour. My husband loved the Iberian ham here. We both had the garlic shrimp which were very well flavored but unfortunately didn't have even one garlic clove, which was disappointing and there were only 6 shrimp. The olive oil they were in was great though and we dipped our food into it and they were perfectly cooked. The paella is supposed to be for 2-4 people which I can see if you have more tapas but we finished it off. It came with a healthy amount of shrimp, grilled calamari and chorizo and was perfectly seasoned. We also appreciated how the rice was a bit crispy and not mushy. The table next to ours ordered what appeared to be a very good looking fruit cobbler of some kind but we were too stuffed for dessert. They also have a weekday happy hour before 6pm that looks good with deals on booze. Really enjoyed this spot! Conveniently located in the middle of garden city with ample free parking.

The menu wasn't overwhelming, and there were definitely many amazing options to choose from. We ended up getting the grilled octopus and burrata as starters for our table. The burrata I felt was the most underwhelming dish out of all the ones we had ordered as the bread underneath was toasted to the point that we couldn't really cut it or chew it because it was so crispy/stale and I think I would pass on this dish. The grilled octopus though? Phenomenal. I would highly recommend getting it as an appetizer for the table as the flavours of each component was just amazing and the octopus itself was perfectly seasoned and not overcooked. For entrees, we decided to share 2 pastas and a pizza and they were all amazing as well. I believe the pizza we had ordered was a spicy vodka pizza, and the crust was nice and thin and crispy, but still held up which is what I love! One of the pastas we had ordered was a ragu bolognese which was wonderful, but I think the star of the entrees was the Friday pasta special! It was tortellini in a mushroom cream sauce with lobster and other seafood and I loved how the tortellini's flavour didn't overpower the dish at all. For dessert, we ordered the cannoli cheesecake and the baked apple tart , and the apple tart definitely blew us all away! It was nice and hot on the skillet, and the flavour of the apple filling with the flaky pie/tart pastry was so delicious, especially with a bit of the melting ice cream on top! Overall, I had an amazing experience here and would definitely recommend coming here for a date night or even a group dinner!
