First time trying this place after noticing it coming off the LIRR. I went with a simple lunch special for $5.99, Stew Chicken with Rice and Beans. Portion was huge and the flavor was great. Not too salty and just a nice fresh taste. Decor was nice and very clean looking. Waitress was very friendly. I am definitely going back to try some other dishes. 4 Stars for bang for the buck!

Crabtree 's did not disappoint. From the welcoming greeting, by professional restaurant staff, and not bored teenagers, to the impeccable service and food, our experience here was a pure delight. The calamari and ceaser salad appetizers were bursting with flavor and tasted so fresh. I ordered the special, a whole roasted dorado fish. It was divine. My partner had the lobster and shrimp pasta dish and was just as happy. I am a very finicky restaurant diner. I could not recommend this place more. I wish I had taken better pictures to do justice to the food, but it was so delicious looking we just dove right in!

While waiting at the bar for a friend to arrive, I was swarmed by fruit flies, which should have been my first warning sign. The pours at the bar were skimpy, but I tried to shake it off once we got our table. The service there was actually friendly, and our server proudly told us the duck was a top seller, so we ordered it along with a salad and a fish dish. Most of what came out of the kitchen was diner quality at best--nothing special, but not offensive. The duck, however, was a disaster. It tasted old and stale, like it had been sitting in a freezer for months before being rushed through a fryer. The meat was fried to a dry, brittle crisp, and the only flavor came from a cloying sweet duck sauce slapped on top. No richness, no tenderness, no redeeming qualities. We absolutely hated our meal and the entire time we spent there. I can't recommend this place to anyone who actually cares about what they eat.

We were seated right away in a dining room that's separate from the bar, which made for a more relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. The service was incredibly friendly and welcoming from the start. The Portuguese wine was great at just $8 for a generous glass or $25 for a bottle. For apps, we started with the cold lobster cocktail $24 and lamb chops $25, both packed with flavor and cooked perfectly. For our main, we had the steamed lobster $28, which was fresh, tender, and delicious. Everything was done just right, and the prices across the board were very reasonable. Highly recommend, and we'll definitely be back!

Service was efficient and attentive without being intrusive. For drinks, had a nice bottle of Portuguese dry red wine ($25) and my better half had a Cosmo ($15), which she found on the sweet side. Prior to out appetizers, a small basket of warm bread was brought to the table. For appetizers we shared the shrimp in garlic sauce ($16) and the grilled squid, also in garlic sauce ($16). We even tried their homemade hot sauce. All good stuff. For the mains, I had the T-Bone Steak (medium rare) ($35) and my better half had the lamb shank ($24). Both were hearty portions and very good. Finished off by sharing the Tres Leches cake ($8) and a decaf cappuccino ($8). Delicious. We left stuffed. Hope to be back sooner than a couple of years......

Poor service, unavailable, menu items and mediocre food…read more The chicken noodle soup came out room temperature and in our opinion did not taste good. It had a heavy lemon taste. I ordered chicken and waffles from the brunch menu which was supposed to come with chicken breast but the server placed the order from main menu, which instead offered wings. The cook came from the kitchen with a very unfriendly demeanor to let me know that she already dropped the chicken and pretty much implied that I would be getting the wings as she already started cooking them. I informed her I will take the wings. However, I still ended up getting the chicken breast tenders. The server offered to make one of the guests, a custom drink, and it was very heavy with rum and was not mixed well as the drink separated shortly after receiving it. All guests ordered a meal from the brunch menu along with a glass of ginger ale. However, we were charged for the drinks, even though it was supposed to be unlimited with brunch. I did not catch that until I got home and realized the drinks were charged separately. (yes we were within the 90 minute limit.) Additionally, only three out of the four ginger ale's came out. She took so long to bring the last one that the guest just declined it as we were almost finished eating. One of the guests ordered French toast with sausage but received bacon instead she also ordered the macaroni and cheese with bacon at the same time and the server did not bring it out. She had to be reminded and he came out very late. The macaroni and cheese was not good. It had the appearance of being cooked in a rush. There were big pieces of bacon in it versus the typical smaller bits the cheese was very dry One of the guest ordered the snapper, but the server returned a few minutes later to inform us that they are out of snapper. Be aware that gratuity was automatically included for a party of four. That might explain the not so good service as there is no incentive to do better.

Given my first experience in February, was outstanding, I decided to bring a friend to experience the food. Firstly, I cannot rave enough about the food, 10/10, the chef is on point. This visit, I had the lambchops and grits, and my friend had the bacon fried rice. Excellent, no complaints. The 90 minute bottomless options, specifically, the cocount pineapple mimosa, perfection, no complaints. Secondly, while there was no DJ this time(first time there was and he was on point), the vibe was still nice and perfect for a Saturday brunch. Unfortunately, I was a bit disappointed with this second visit, as around 3:30pm we were asked to leave (we had a full carafe remianing of our bottomless mimosa, but was able to take it with us, so not a waste), as there was a private event in the afternoon/evening. I have no concerns with the restaurant renting for private events; however,I'd expect to be advised there is a time limit for seating when either making the reservation for that day or upon arrival to the restaurant. Not sure of the system limitations for reservations, but perhaps include a note for that day/time letting people know there is an earlier shut down. But, if that isn't an option, at the very least verbally advise of the private event and the shutdown, when the patrons physically arrive at the restaurant. This time, I made the reservation by phone a week earlier. Had I known they were planning to shut down to the public at a certain time, I would have altered the reservation to arrive earlier. Additionally, there were patrons who arrived after us, so their time was cut shorter. If not for the private event, there were empty tables, so we would not have needed to leave at that point to allow for other patrons to be seated. I plan to return as the food is exceptional, not over priced and worth additional visits; however, I want the owners to appreciate how it can be offputting to be asked to leave in that manner. Please be mindful in the future of cutting short the dining experience without prior communication. Other than that, this is a a great option for brunch!

There's often a short wait, which isn't surprising given how consistently packed the dining room is. The brunch menu is stacked with crowd favorites, and the music always sets the vibe--something you can really enjoy while you eat. But the food? Phenomenal. The fried catfish was seasoned and fried to crispy perfection. The turkey wings were tender, flavorful, and cooked just right--fall-off-the-bone good. And the yams? Sweet, rich, and perfectly seasoned... honestly hard to stop eating. The macaroni was rich and satisfying, and the potato salad is always a standout for me. For dessert, I had the chocolate cake--and it was exactly how I like it: moist with real, creamy frosting that doesn't miss. The brunch sangria was also a hit. I mixed red and white, and it was smooth and refreshing. Portion sizes are generous, so you definitely leave satisfied. And Danny, the owner, really sets the tone--he's always present, checking in with guests, jumping in to help the staff, and clearly running a tight operation. Nettie's continues to be the go-to spot for soul food--consistently good, every time.
