First time trying this place after noticing it coming off the LIRR. I went with a simple lunch special for $5.99, Stew Chicken with Rice and Beans. Portion was huge and the flavor was great. Not too salty and just a nice fresh taste. Decor was nice and very clean looking. Waitress was very friendly. I am definitely going back to try some other dishes. 4 Stars for bang for the buck!

The restaurant's ambiance was wonderful, with several spacious dining rooms that each had their own charm. We chose to dine on the outdoor patio, which felt like a rooftop restaurant in the city, with beautiful trees creating a canopy overhead. Loved the vibe ! Our party of four started with the escargot and clams. While I don't personally eat escargot, the others at the table thoroughly enjoyed it. For my entrée, I ordered the mahi-mahi with mango, which was phenomenal--extremely fresh, perfectly cooked, and full of flavor. The other guests raved about the halibut in lobster sauce and the potato-crusted grouper. I finished with the carrot cake, and all though I was full proceeded to finish entirely because it was that good! A special mention goes to our waitress, Michelle, who was attentive and thoughtful throughout the evening. She even brought extra crostini so the table could enjoy every last bit of the escargot sauce. Overall, it was a fantastic dining experience, and we look forward to returning.

While waiting at the bar for a friend to arrive, I was swarmed by fruit flies, which should have been my first warning sign. The pours at the bar were skimpy, but I tried to shake it off once we got our table. The service there was actually friendly, and our server proudly told us the duck was a top seller, so we ordered it along with a salad and a fish dish. Most of what came out of the kitchen was diner quality at best--nothing special, but not offensive. The duck, however, was a disaster. It tasted old and stale, like it had been sitting in a freezer for months before being rushed through a fryer. The meat was fried to a dry, brittle crisp, and the only flavor came from a cloying sweet duck sauce slapped on top. No richness, no tenderness, no redeeming qualities. We absolutely hated our meal and the entire time we spent there. I can't recommend this place to anyone who actually cares about what they eat.

Reservations are highly recommended. A lot of my mom friends rave about this place and I got to dine here twice with them, once for brunch and the other for dinner. The first time I came here was with my child for brunch. I got a mocktail and we ordered chicken and waffles along the unadvertised kids menu containing chicken fingers and fries. Portions for both dishes were generous and took home the leftovers. We also shared the Brussels sprouts and the infamois complimentary bread, which were really good. The second and most recent time we went was for dinner with the a huge group of moms. We shared the Caesar salad, Brussels sprouts, and general two's cauliflower, which was amazing. I had the red sangria and a taste of the Huckleberry lemonade, drinks were strong. For the entrees I ordered the salmon and once again portion was huge, took it home and the hubby ate the leftovers. Other moms ordered the frose, spicy paloma, le poulet and spicy Rigatoni. At the end we had key lime pie which tasted great but I was too full to finish it. I'll be coming to this spot more often because of great company and food!

This one is every ounce of what they market online. The food is amazing. The staff is amazing. Inside is amazing. There's even plenty of parking near the local train station. The marketing team did an outstanding job representing this restaurant. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough.

Service was efficient and attentive without being intrusive. For drinks, had a nice bottle of Portuguese dry red wine ($25) and my better half had a Cosmo ($15), which she found on the sweet side. Prior to out appetizers, a small basket of warm bread was brought to the table. For appetizers we shared the shrimp in garlic sauce ($16) and the grilled squid, also in garlic sauce ($16). We even tried their homemade hot sauce. All good stuff. For the mains, I had the T-Bone Steak (medium rare) ($35) and my better half had the lamb shank ($24). Both were hearty portions and very good. Finished off by sharing the Tres Leches cake ($8) and a decaf cappuccino ($8). Delicious. We left stuffed. Hope to be back sooner than a couple of years......

I visited Matteo's on 4/28/26, and unfortunately, it was a disappointing experience…read more From the outside, it doesn't look like much, but inside there's a full bar and a more formal dining area. My sister and I started with a chicken soup, which was actually really good and one of the highlights of the meal. For our appetizer, we ordered the grilled octopus. It came cut up in an olive oil-style sauce, which is different from how I'm used to having it served. It wasn't a favorite. For the entrée, we ordered a mixed meat platter (steak, pork, chicken, lamb, Portuguese sausage) with mashed potatoes and spinach. The food was very hit or miss. The lamb, chicken, and pork were good, but the steak was tough and chewy. The mashed potatoes tasted like they came from a box, and overall the food lacked seasoning--I had to add salt and pepper just to bring out flavor. My sister did enjoy her Hennessy sidecar. I will say, the bartender was nice, which I appreciated. The biggest issue was cleanliness. The bathroom in the bar area smelled very musty, it had a urinal, toilet and a dead water bug next to the toilet, which was extremely off-putting because it is next to the kitchen. I reported it immediately. The second bathroom in the dining area was cleaner but clearly outdated. Even with an "A" grade posted, that experience raised serious concerns. To make matters worse, on the way home I developed stomach pain, heartburn, and I had an allergic reaction--I had to take both antacids and Benadryl. After that, we ended up throwing the food away--what a complete waste of money. To be honest, nothing was taken off the bill despite reporting the issue. Another thing to note: they charge more if you use a credit card and less if you pay cash, and this was not clearly disclosed or posted anywhere that I could see. Overall, this was not a good experience. Between the lackluster food, cleanliness concerns, how I felt afterward, unexpected charges, and lack of accountability, I will not be returning. No Bueno!

Poor service, unavailable, menu items and mediocre food…read more The chicken noodle soup came out room temperature and in our opinion did not taste good. It had a heavy lemon taste. I ordered chicken and waffles from the brunch menu which was supposed to come with chicken breast but the server placed the order from main menu, which instead offered wings. The cook came from the kitchen with a very unfriendly demeanor to let me know that she already dropped the chicken and pretty much implied that I would be getting the wings as she already started cooking them. I informed her I will take the wings. However, I still ended up getting the chicken breast tenders. The server offered to make one of the guests, a custom drink, and it was very heavy with rum and was not mixed well as the drink separated shortly after receiving it. All guests ordered a meal from the brunch menu along with a glass of ginger ale. However, we were charged for the drinks, even though it was supposed to be unlimited with brunch. I did not catch that until I got home and realized the drinks were charged separately. (yes we were within the 90 minute limit.) Additionally, only three out of the four ginger ale's came out. She took so long to bring the last one that the guest just declined it as we were almost finished eating. One of the guests ordered French toast with sausage but received bacon instead she also ordered the macaroni and cheese with bacon at the same time and the server did not bring it out. She had to be reminded and he came out very late. The macaroni and cheese was not good. It had the appearance of being cooked in a rush. There were big pieces of bacon in it versus the typical smaller bits the cheese was very dry One of the guest ordered the snapper, but the server returned a few minutes later to inform us that they are out of snapper. Be aware that gratuity was automatically included for a party of four. That might explain the not so good service as there is no incentive to do better.

I enjoy my food when I actually taste the food and not the salt so I loved it. Others complained not salty/seasoned enough but it was perfect to me. The food was flavorful and well-prepared, although some dishes leaned a bit salty for my taste. I ordered the sautéed shrimp and grits. The shrimp were delicious, but I wish the dish came with a larger portion of grits. The gravy was very generous and ended up making the dish a bit soupy, so a little more grits would have helped balance the dish. Other highlights from our table included the fried shrimp and waffles, yams, and mac and cheese, all of which were excellent. Another guest in my party ordered the BBQ salmon and thoroughly enjoyed it as well. The ambiance is casual, comfortable, and inviting, making it a great spot for either a local brunch or a relaxed dinner. The service was attentive and pleasant throughout our visit. We were even greeted by the owner upon arrival, and his friendliness and hospitality immediately made us feel welcome and set a positive tone for the entire experience. Overall, this is a solid neighborhood restaurant with good food, a welcoming atmosphere, and excellent customer service. I'd definitely return to try more items from the menu.
