Moved to Coachella Valley in April 2010. Based on all the advertising we went to Mathis Bros first for our bed, headboard, dining table. We did not like the pushy salesperson who attached herself to our hips! We asked her to go away TWICE and we will find her when we have a question or want to order. She refused! Too bad too cuz I think the Lady Americana mattresses looked like good value for us. Took my mother n law to get a new bed she is very weak due to cancer we were helped by Isaiah Morales who was so very accommodating to her he took us through elevator and was very patient when trying to show her around she told him exactly what she was looking for and he exceeded her expectations my mother n law is Spanish speaking only communication was spot on his customer service was amazing hope all the employees are like him it was a pleasure doing business can't wait to go back for more furniture. read more

Stopped by the Mathis Brothers Furniture Store in Indio to look at some items for my newlywed daughter and son-in-law's new apartment. We had the pleasure of working with sales associate Maria Garcia. Maria was literally perfect as she gave us the information and time we needed to check out various options in sofa sectionals, TV consoles, Mirrors etc. Never at any time was she breathing down our back with pressure to make decisions or purchase anything, always friendly, relaxed and accommodating. What was very refreshing was to hear Maria talk about the Mathis Brothers chain as a whole and just how happy she has been working there over the last 3 years. She said the owners of the mega store chain are always "friendly and down to earth", and that they are "VERY generous and good to their employees!". It was clear to see that Maria is extremely happy working for this furniture giant and that it had made a significant life change for she and her two children. Things like this make me respect Mathis Brothers and make me want to do my business with them. We look forward to seeing Maria again in the near future for more furniture/home deco goodies! read more

Sales Guy greeted me as soon as I walked in. I told him what I wanted and he told me where to go, following me to the sales area. There were many choices, styles, fabrics, and colors. At this point, I would have expected Sales Guy to walk away and give me some space. Instead, he hovered. I don't like hovering. Far from helping me make a decision, hovering sends me into defense mode as I evaluate my exit strategies. For a moment, I felt like Roy Scheider that first time he saw the shark. I really wanted a harpoon gun. I told Sales Guy to give me some space, which he proceeded to do--all for about ten minutes. When he returned ("So! Have you made a decision?"), I proceeded to ignore him. Surprisingly, he got the message and wandered away. When I looked up a short time later, I saw him leaning against the sales counter, leering at me hungrily. He smiled. Way too many teeth. What Sales Guy didn't know was that Mathis Brothers was my last stop. I'd already been to Macy's Furniture Gallery and a couple of other places. I knew more or less what I wanted and Mathis Brothers had the best price. If Sales Guy just left me alone for a few minutes, he'd get his commission without doing any work. I was ready to ask a few questions and I made eye contact. Immediately, Sales Guy's sonar or radar or tractor beam or whatever the hell he had, locked onto my gaze. He lurched forward and began his unwavering approach. I stifled the urge to hand him a Kleenex to wipe a trickle of drool hanging from the corner of his mouth. To be fair, that might have been a trick of the light. "Is this all leather," I asked? "Yes." "Do you have it in stock?" "Yes." "If I don't like it can I return it?" "Within seven days." "What kind of warranty?" "Limited Manufacturer's Warranty." This is where he tried damned hard to sell me the Extra Special Mathis Brothers Extended Care Plan, which I declined. I asked about delivery but to Sales Guy's credit, he told me that the item came in two pieces, that I could fit it in my car and easily assemble it myself. "Fine," I said. After trying one last time to sell me the Extra Special Mathis Brothers Extended Care Plan ("because you never know what might happen"), he led me to the sales counter, where I immediately felt like I was at either the DMV or a large emergency room. There was a mile or more of roped off lines, a multitude of forms to fill out, numbers to be assigned, names to be called. I wasn't registering a car or giving birth--I just wanted to hand over my Visa and get the hell out but instead I waited. And waited. And waited some more. I observed my fellow shoppers and something told me that Mathis Brothers catered to a demographic different from mine. As long as the price was right, I didn't care but I would have responded better to a different sales model. After much waiting, I finally signed the sales slip and got my receipt, noting the big, red letters proclaiming that Mathis Brothers charges a restocking fee for all returns. Funny--Sales Guy didn't mention that. I got into my car and drove around the building to the pick-up station. The guys in the warehouse already had my item half out of the box. I wondered why the box looked crushed but I looked closely at my purchase before the guys loaded it into the car and it seemed OK. Also to his credit, Sales Guy was right about how easy my item was to put together. He was not, however, right about the leather. "Leather seating area" is not the same as leather. There was also a blemish on the non-leather, non-seating area portion of my leather-seating area item. Given that the price was right and the purchase was not for me, I decided to let it go. I also recognize that I'm a bit obsessive compulsive and I decided to deal with the partial non-leatherness and the blemish rather than spend my limited time in California schlepping from Palm Desert back to Indio for what would undoubtedly be an argument. Definitely strike two-and-a-half for Sales Guy and Mathis Brothers. If Yelp allowed half-stars, that's exactly what Mathis Brothers would get. I won't say I had a bad experience at Mathis Brothers but I can't say I that felt good about my purchase, either. Would I go back to Mathis Brothers? Depending on what I wanted, probably. If you know what you want and ask the right questions, you'll probably be OK but do your shopping first and make Mathis Brothers your last stop. Caveat Emptor indeed. read more

All furniture stores seem shady to me lol. BUT I did find a decent leather couch at Mathis that I liked - until it was delivered (right on time) and the seats and lower panels did not match at all. The sales person told me repeatedly "at this price it is all leather" and it just said leather on the tag (ie not bonded leather etc.). Now I doubt it was all leather - maybe leather and bonded leather mix which was likely on a large tag stapled under the couch if it really matters. Reason I'm not giving them a 1-star is that they DID bring me a replacement couch within two days and when it had the same flaw they refunded all my money (including delivery) within about 3 business days with no fuss. Might have helped that I had their delivery people wait while I called and arranged to have them take back with them, and had delivery people sign on form what the issues were at delivery. Otherwise I might have had to have them inspect the couch too? Not sure. Gave up finding anything else in the Coachella area (did not see any other big stores besides Macy's, Plummers and Pottery Barn (all too $ for me), MOR, Ashley, and Mathis in the area?) but drove to Rancho Cucamonga's Ontario Mills right at the 10 and 15 freeways (about 75 minute drive) which had all three plus Living Spaces, Jeromes, and Easy Life plus a ton of small (if creepy) "going out of business" places. Expect to pay about $200 for delivery vs $70 delivery if you buy locally but more options at least. TIP: Most of the stores offer a $60 or so extended warranty. I looked and leather couches Excluded stains from any household liquids etc. etc. Even if they really fixed / cleaned stuff under that warranty the things I expected to need it for were excluded up front. Read before you buy - what someone "tells" you is useless. read more

Probably the best selection of all grades of furniture in the Valley. The problem with it is the hungry salespeople who greet you at the door and won't let you just look around in peace. The stores sales staff is very helpful This review is about the furniture and the so called warranty we purchased. We have had our couch and love seat for about 3.5 years and the handle for the kick out has broken at least 3 times now and the stain has come off the leather so my couch looks like it 15 years old or more. Call the warranty company and they say sorry didn't cover that. Well what the hell does it cover the store told me they took care of the handle issue internally so I'm confused what the warranty covers that I was told covers just about everything except purposeful damage. He even had someone move a sofa to see how it would look with a rug we were interested in. Went today to Mathis Bros Furniture in Indio looking for a bedroom set and was helped by Michelle Carillo. She was very attentive, friendly and most important was knowledgeable. She helped in finding the perfect bedroom set. Also, in the Mattress Department we had the help from Anthony Gonzalez. He was also very friendly and knowledgeable with the different types of mattresses they have. He was able to help me find the perfect mattress for me. Good selection of furnishings. They are on commission so you will have someone follow you around like a beggar. My only gripe is they have a "Chinese Antiques Furniture" section that are NOT antiques. They say circa 150 years old but they are reproductions made to look old. You can find the exact same reproductions throughout LA at vendors claiming to be Antiques. Jeanne Bemis ASID designer is amazing! Our friends recommended going to Mathis Brothers to furnish our condominum. She came to our home to meet us, see the property & talk about the design we wanted.The store is large, with a huge variety of designs & prices. Her goal was to make sure the "scale" of the furniture was correct and we were happy with the choices. She listened and guided us through the purchases, including some artwork and accessories. We will continue to use her for any further design work & highly recommend her ! Over the years we have used previous designers and she is the best! I have been shopping at Mathis Brother furniture for over 10 years, and it has always been a pleasant experience, but the last few months. ~ The cashier was not able to sort out a few different orders and I got an overcharge $740, then had to spend the time to clarify it all. ~ The delivery team showed up at my tenant occupied property(!) 35 minutes earlier then scheduled, so before I arrived, and it did create a lot of issues ~ If you buy an item from the clearance area, they use to give you 48 "plus" hours in order to have it picked up. But now if you don't pick it up within 48 hours, they don't bother to give you a simple curtesy call, but cancel the order, which you may relay on. Do they care about you? ~ Manly(!) they send you a link to review your experience, and if you put a positive review, they let you submit it. But if you want to voice up the negative experience, the system doesn't allow you to submit it. Sadly to say it all, just hoping it will bring the managers attention and all will be improved. Caveat Emptor. Mathis Brothers is the most notorious furniture store in the valley. They overprice and hyper-advertise, have greasy stalker used-car salesmen, often require self-assembly or else charge an exorbant fee, and have a shotty, dated, and locally-inappropriate selection of poorly constructed furniture and merchandise. The products are usually either no-name brands or bottom-of-the-barrel dated name brands. Their TV, entertainment center, and sofa selection was fresh back in 1986. Because the store is so big, they make money on mass-merchandising junk to hordes of new homeowners with bad credit. I do not recommend their products. Case in point, my co-worker purchased a dining table set which lasted one year before the hidden staples and glue holding it together fell apart. This set looked really nice to begin with but did not hold up. The store refused to repair and was quick to point out the warranty was over. Second case in point, my neighbor has a one year old micro-suede couch from Mathis. The couch fabric (which is not really suede) had stained with dust and dirt. A week after getting the couch washed by a cleaning service the fabric had shrunk, leaving an unsightly mix of loose and tight wrinkles. The foam cushons lost their shape after 6 months. Mathis makes their money by selling disposable, short-lasting furniture at questionable prices on easy credit. Caveat Emptor. read more

Horrible service! Bought some couches 6 months ago and still don't get them delivered. They keep pushing the delivery date back. The worst part is that they promise you a day then the day comes and you're waiting for the delivery and they never show up and they don't even let you know that they're not coming! I had not had a decent night of solid sleep in a long time. The bed I was on, was finally giving out - the boxsprings had broken crossmembers - and I was waking up constantly through the night. The matress topper I had bought at a warehouse store was not working. Clearly it was time to get a new bed. I went through the Consumer Report's evaluations and ratings for days. I went to website after website looking for the answer. Finally I settled on the Sealy Posturepedic Hybrid line. It was well rated. The first store had one salesperson who was tied up and I just got to skim some prices from the tags and try to lay down for a bit on it. During a conversation, a friend of mine suggested that I try Mathis Brothers for a mattress or Costco. The Costco mattresses were only available online and I did not want the hassle of shipping it back and forth for refunds and have my money tied up while everything was worked out At Mathis Brothers, I got white glove service. David Hampton let me sit on every mattress just to make sure I was 100% decided on the Sealy. David went through construction and specs for the various ones I was considering besides the Sealy. Not only did they beat the price of the other shop, but included the mattress protector and had the bed to me in a couple of days including having to transfer it from another store. When everything arrived, I realized that I had not measured the height of the bed frame and the bed was now 34 inches off the ground. I checked to see how much it would be to get a contractor to make a partially removable roof and have a helicopter deliver me to bed every night. There had to be a less expensive bedtime routine... Turns out that with one call, Mathis Brothers made sure I was taken care of - they picked up the very high boxsprings and replaced them with the low profile ones. Mathis Brothers is truly exceptional and I look forward to working with David and this outstanding establishment in the future when I start upgrading my living room set! read more

Worst experience buying furniture ever! Our initial sales contact was Richard Fresco, the most negative person I've ever encounter. We told him we were looking for dining room chairs and his responses were "I don't think we have any of those in stock now" ; "We can't sell the chairs from a dining room set"; " I don't think we can special order fabric"; etc. He then turned us over to Lori Petroff who was able to do all the things of which Richard was incapable. I sent a complaint about Richard Fresco and Marc called and left a message (no last name!) I returned his call and he's never returned mine. The phone number he left was 760-831-2519 She ordered the chairs and we discussed several other pieces of furniture. I e-mailed her some examples of the furniture we were looking for. I got NO RESPONSE from Lori. When our chairs came in NO ONE notified us. I had to call to see if they had arrived. Incredibly incompetent personnel and unbelievably high prices! Maybe they're going out of business there because no one really cares about customers. read more

We had a delivery today. We paid the extra $ 80.00 to have them set the items up. The 2 were in such a hurry- they did b not want to hear how I wanted the items brought into our home. One patio chair came damaged and we need to wait once again until the end of the week for them to deliver another chair. They also let a stranger into our home when they were brining the furniture in. Today was not a very good experience. read more

First off, great selection and customer service. They have a range of furniture catering to all price points. My salesman was very courteous and knowledgeable about the product. I enjoyed shopping over here very much. Simply bought 6 chairs and a corner table. Very easy to work with.\ I can not believe all the cry babies on tis website. Specially the lady who bitched about the fact that Mathis wanted to charge for delivery to her grandmother, Grow up if you care so much for your grandmother go pick it up yourself. Gas is not free. Two orange velvet chairs and an amazing console all at great prices! For sure buy the protection plan. Awesome experience in store, very easy going reps that are there if you need them, not down your throat when you just want to browse. Unfortunately a huge negative outweighs our in store experience. I received a phone call and email confirmation the day prior to delivery. Both stated delivery time was between 10 am and 12 pm. We called at 12:15 pm wondering where the delivery was, and we were told that was a mistake, they give three hour delivery windows, and it was supposed to be 10- 1. Finally, at 1:45 pm our couch was delivered... The delivery staff was very friendly and courteous, but it was tough not to be frustrated when they were an hour and forty five minutes late from what we were originally expecting. Two thumbs up for awesome service and friendly staff, two thumbs down for a clusterf$?! of a delivery system. read more

Like most large furniture stores Mathis Brothers will greet you at the door with Sales people. Well this week we were very fortunate to have been pleasantly greeted by Ralph. Ralph spent 2 hours with us, listening to our concerns, asking pertinent questions and assisted us in measuring. He steered us away from options we did not need and showed a genuine concern for our budget. Do to Ralph's extra searches for value and discounts we were able to purchase a few additional items. Lastly Ralph went the extra mile in minimizing our delivery costs and provided us a timely solution to a set up issue due to my poor health. If you visit Mathis Brothers for your furniture needs I strongly suggest you ask for Ralph the minute you walk in the door. Unfortunately "Carol" has passed away. We still received excellent service although a handicapped scooter would have made shopping in such a cavernous space bearable. Had a couple of "issues" regarding what was and wasn't delivered but got rescued by CONNIE in customer service who was most accomodating in handling our problem and making us feel like an appreciated customer. So far, I'm happy with the personal attention from Mathis Brothers. I had selected a chair online and called to speak to a salesperson. Valerie let me know that the chair was discounted as it was going to be discontinued and put it on hold for me. I was told that I'd have to pay over the phone to hold it and if I didn't like it, I could get a refund upon viewing it. The only problem I had was actually paying for it. I was so frustrated that I had to call 5 times and ask for a cashier and no one would pick up the phone to actually let me pay. This took two days. When I arrived, it appeared the associated cushion on the last chair had been misplaced, so Valerie had requested a transfer from their Ontario store. Normally transfers cost additional, but they were transferring it for free for me. I did have to follow up to find out the status of the transfer four days later, only to find out that it hadn't been transferred yet (only one hour away). I spoke to a sales manager who said transfers could take up to two weeks. Since I was coming to the desert specifically to receive furniture deliveries, the sales manager expedited the transfer to the following day and scheduled the delivery to me for two days later. I appreciate the personal attention they gave to accommodate my schedule. read more

The delivery department was excellent, the two men who delivered our furniture, Jose and Anthony, were extremely helpful! We purchased a sectional along with the extended warranty figuring we would be covered in case something happened. The zipper on one of the upper cushions failed and of course Mathis Brothers says they are not responsible as the zipper is a manufacturer issue and out of warranty. A Seamster came out and zipped the zipper shut and left. Did not work. The zipper has failed. Very, very dissapointed. Thought an extended warranty would cover us and all of the people working with us have been slow in responding. Not an expensive unit but nonetheless we are not wealthy. Not a dent in Mathis Brothers book of business and would think customer service would be a bit more on the ball. Buyer beware of extended warranty fine print. Doesn't cover what you think. read more

I have been shopping at Mathis Brothers in Indio for a few years now... I've purchased many pieces of furniture from them. Elaine Simmons (sales) is the best! Easy to work with and always looking out for my interests and not pushing anything. Always helps...! And Jessica and Yanet and so many others in Customer Service are fantastic...! I go in, pay my bill, or buy new stuff and never have an issue. They have a HUGE selection of all types of furniture...! No matter your price range, I'm sure you'll find something at Mathis Brothers... And check out the upstairs CLEARANCE CENTER - with one-offs and close-outs (and some scratch & nick pieces) that can save you hundreds of dollars... You should be able to find your style, your price and your choice at Mathis Brothers...! I've purchased dining tables & pub stools, power recliner theatre seating, chairs, ottomans, tables, lamps, accessories and so much more. Never had any trouble with any of it... Furniture is well built and solid... Like most moderately prices, massed produced products, I'm sure that you'll find less "all solid wood" and more "composite wood with veneers" in the line up and - let's be honest - these types of "wood" will not stand up to the use and abuse of more old-style hard wood furniture.. But the materials are up to snuff for most families and needs... read more
