I've seen several 1-star ratings and, quite frankly, I don't get it. Everything we've purchased there has been top-notch, and the sales people have been very helpful. It is true that they're on you (literally) when you walk in the door. Apparently, that's what they're trained to do by the Mathis boys. They would be well served to let people browse for a minute or two. It's the exact opposite of going into a Lowe's or Home Depot where the sales associates practically hide from the customers. Having said that, I have nothing but good things to say about Richard Vincent, David, and Kyle. They know their products and will help you find what you need while staying in your stated budget. It is true....the salespeople in the Indio store do stalk you as you wander around the store. Especially if both the husband and wife are shopping together. Both decision makers are present as they see it. We walked in the front door and were confronted immediately by the next " up" sales person. We told him that we were there to wander around and see what the store had to offer; that we would come to get him when we were ready to buy. We were engaged at least five times after that by that same person offering "assistance". After that, no matter where we wandered in the store, that sales person was eerily close by, busying himself with some seemingly innocuous task. This occurred upstairs, downstairs, in the storefront, the rear, or any place else for that matter. It was like we were his personal sale and he was protecting his turf and his sales commission. We were going to buy five thousand dollars of furniture but decided not to because we were so uncomfortable with the situation and possibly starting a salespersons argument over the potential sale if we wanted to deal with another sales assistant. We decided to just leave, but as we were leaving, we were again intercepted by this same salesperson before we got to the front door to see if we had made any purchase decisions. The front door is the only entry and exit to or from the store; it is essentially the sales persons cash register. They seemingly rotate as to who is going to work the front door and tag you as you walk into the store .....much like cattle being branded We would have liked to buy their furniture but are now put off by the prospect of returning to the store for another dose of this creepiness. read more

LONG BUT PLZ READ Do not do biz this store unless you wanted to be lied to -your salesperson will tell you there are no chairs in the showroom in your price range but low and behold you find two perfect chairs yourself while she is writing the ticket - but after order is paid for she disappears on medical leave but no one tells you-your delivery date is changed but they call wrong number and you wait an entire day for delivery-when you inquire why you will be blamed while the person speaks to you like a child then you can expect delivery to be postponed a total of 3 times for the convenience of the store -then when it finally arrives it will be wrong and missing the very piece the delivery was postponed TWICE for-when you try to find out where the missing piece is you will be put on hold then hung up on then when you call back you sit on hold again and give up after 15 min but you lose cuz they don't ever call you back-delivery leaves a survey -you go online using up more of your precious time and fill it out -surely they will respond to an unhappy survey -NOPE-not a word so don't bother with the surveys they obviously don't read them-frustrated and pissed you will give up and accept only ONE chair instead of TWO but no you will have to spend more of your time because -of course-they charged me for TWO -how many hours have I spent messing with this -we all make mistakes but this is so anti everything this company claims to be about -I guess you GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR-cheap furniture and lousy service -the delivery guys were great to be truthful-AWFUL SERVICE -minus 5 stars n my view read more

My came here with my sister to look for some furniture for our vacation rental home. Right away we were greeted by a salesman asking if we needed help. We told him we were just looking and we'd let him know if we had any questions. Unfortunately the salesman followed us around the floor room at a distance the whole time and made me feel like we were being watched (I don't like pushy sales people). We did end up finding some items for our rental home- dining table/chairs, coffee table and patio furniture which we're really happy with. A good secret- go upstairs behind all the patio furniture to the clearance items and they have a lot of good stuff that has very minor flaws for a great deal! read more

I was hesitant to shop at Mathis Bros. after reading the negative Yelp reviews, but they had exactly the chair I wanted and at less cost than other furniture stores closer to me. So, off I went. Now, I don't know what side of the bed a lot of these other reviewers got up on, but my buying experience was excellent. Yes, the sales staff is waiting at the door..but I have a feeling most people would complain if they were ignored and not a sales person around. I was approached by a salesman named Richard Fresco..I told him what I wanted; he took me directly there, showed me what was available in varying prices, and when I selected the less expensive item, he immediately started writing it up...no hassle to upgrade, no pressure at any time. 30 minutes later I was out the door with a promised delivery date the following Monday between 12-3 pm. I then recieved a phone call confirming the delivery..then a follow-up email. Guess what? At 12:32 today (Monday), the doorbell rings, the chair is set up and 10 minutes later I am a happy man and a happy Mathis Bros. Furniture customer. Bottom line...you can't please everyone, but I would go back in a flash. read more

Good Selection of furniture, nice layout in the store, I bought $12000 plus worth of furniture and I was promised a $300 back after delivery by the sales representative who said just call me after delivery (they offered this because I asked for a discount), this all happened in-front of the store manager (named Richard), I returned to the store to buy more items to finish furnishing my home and then asked for my $300 I was promised, the sales representative said of course and said he will add it to the new invoice as credit, however the manager Richard refused and acted like he never agreed to this, he was yelling and acted in a non professional way, I simply walked away with out buying any furniture again, they lost me as a customer, I will never return to their store and I will advise friends and family not to. they need a course in customer service. read more

Contrary to the previous two reviews, Mathis Bros. is an excellent place to buy high quality brand name furniture at the lowest possible prices. I have completely furnished two vacation homes with Mathis Bros. and am very pleased with their service and selection. Of course they also sell off brands and lower quality merchandise but you get what you pay for - if you buy the cheap stuff, it will be cheap stuff. I bought only brand name furniture - Lane, Henredon, Marge Carson, Bernhardt, etc - and the prices were far below what I found elsewhere. Best place to buy oriental carpets - they will bring a selection to your home, unroll rug after rug for you, and take back your selection in a month if you don't like it. Of course they have commissioned sales people like any furniture store but where are you going to find a furniture store without them? read more

My husband and I purchased a sectional late August/early September and our sales associate was amazing and after talking to her we decided to purchase and change the fabric. We were told it would be 4-6 weeks. Then we were called and told 4-8 weeks...then we were called again and told 10 weeks!!! This is ridiculous! Its the end of October and it's still not done!!! I will never purchase and item that needs to have the fabric work done! The least they can do is offer to deliver for free...since we only live 5 minutes away. But really....I'd like my couch BEFORE Thanksgiving if it's not too much to ask!!! read more

Let me add my horrible review to the mix. We've been stalked every time as well. Awful! We bought a couch that was the "last one", so was on the floor. Unfortunately, it was backed up to a wall, so you couldn't see all the damage. When it got delivered, there were many damaged spots, large scratches, etc. We had the delivery guys wait while we called customer service. No one answered the phone, it went to voice mail. Meanwhile, the delivery guys were saying if we accepted delivery, we were stuck with the damage. So I called again, and the only manager available was the delivery manager, who told me the same thing, that if we accepted delivery, we were stuck with it. So, we sent it back, waited over a week before I finally called the salesperson, telling her what had happened. Ultimately, we ended up having to call our credit card company, because they charged us $6,000 anyway. It has been over a month, and we still haven't been credited, although Mastercard is standing behind us since we have no furntiture. At one point, the sales manager spoke with us and apologized, offering us 10% off and free delivery on our purchase if we bought the sofa again. We declined, but went in to see two VERY expensive chairs. When we went in, we were stalked again, but ditched the girl. We found our original salesperson and asked about ordering the two chairs, (each one was almost $2,000). We asked for some consideration, they offered $50 off per chair and full charge for delivery. I asked what happened to the apology and the deal, she said that was the best they could do. They do NOT care that we are really upset with them and that we will never shop there again. What a sleazy operation; I would never shop there again. read more

Wow, I don't know why they are getting such terrible reviews... I purchased everything for my home in 2006, and it's 2011 and all is fine. Actually, one of the pieces is a little 'off', but nothing substantial. I got a great deal on everything for my home, and in fact, when I went there to pick out the furniture for my bedroom, the sales person saw what I liked and had an idea... he took me to another section of the store and asked me if I liked the color of the wood on display. I said, "Sure". He then told me that the bedroom set that I liked had come in a container with an 'off' hue, much like the lighter-color wood he just showed me. He said that Mathis was getting a discount on the container and if I wanted, he would give me an EXTRA 20 percent off, as Mathis was getting a discount, as well. I confirmed this story with Jason, the office Manager (a friend of mine), and the deal went down. A week later, all my furniture arrived, it arrived safely (a drawer busted and they fixed it), and again, it's 2011 and everything is fine. So, I don't know about the others, but as far as I'm concerned, this store is fine. OH! They DO follow you around, but if you're firm with them, then they'll let you stroll by yourself. But walking out and not taking advantage of some of their deals is like cutting off your nose to spite your face. Get everything in writing and move on to the next step of your home! :) read more

5 Star shout out to Jose, my salesman. Thanks Jose, you were the best salesperson I have had business with in a long time. When I first entered the store for the first time ever - I saw that there is always an employee by the door to help the next one in the door. I was blessed to get Jose. I knew the price range and quality I was looking for (you get what you pay for!)...and Jose stayed in that brand quality. When I asked for difference in quality/prices - he took me over to their top gallery and showed me, but he never tried to sell me beyond the budget I gave him. When Jose saw that I was really going to walk around and sit on every sofa I might consider - he gave me his card asking me to ask for him at the front when I was ready or had any further questions. I got so worn out thinking that day that I came back on Sunday. But I was ready to buy and I did not forget to ask for Jose - please people, ask for the individual that helped you to begin with...it counts for them! Jose sold me our Sofa after teaching me about diff companies and what to expect. No BS...appreciated that. Mathis and Jose have my future business. There was only one negative - and that's why only four stars overall. Sofa was due 7-10 days. No one called me after 10 days. Mathis, you should at least check in. I had to call on day 10. I had to call back three times - no one answered the phone for many rings the first two calls. On call three it was picked up after about 20 rings. The guy said, "yea, well we're busy...lol. It's okay, I get it but maybe they can straighten that out. At least pick up and say, Please hold. After the learning regarding part quality, where it's made, warranties, etc...I decided to get a little step up than originally planned. That said, I only bought one of the two sofa's I need - so...see you soon Jose. read more

After checking out the yelp reviews on Mathis Brothers Indio I must admit my expectations were low. Needing some new furniture, I reluctantly ventured forth. To my surprise I was greeted with a smile and was quickly approached by a lady who helped me navigate the store and eventually checked us out when we purchase our new sofa and tables. The two guys that delivered our furniture were so pleasant and ON TIME. They handled our furniture with care and even moved our old couch out for us. Was told this was "the place to buy furniture" in the desert for our second home NOT! Our sales person, who shall remain nameless, T.F, was a stage 5 clinger. He peed on us when we started looking to mark us as his territory. He let me find two couches I liked and was going to choose between and DIDN'T TELL ME NEITHER ONE WAS AVAILABLE, he then let me waste an hour or so looking for things to go with it tables etc. and then dropped the bomb, sorry neither couch was in and wouldn't be while we were in the area for the next couple of weeks. Then he badgered me to put 10% down to hold it until the next time we were in town and they could deliver it (like three months from now) and then when I said no he was ticked and treated me like dirt. Bought a recliner from the Indio location. Special order. It arrived early and I am happy with it. Needed a new mattress. Had the Serta model number and we wanted to see it and try it in the store. Called Mathis Sleep Centers and asked if they had it on the floor. They told me to call the Indio Store as it was in stock. Called Indio to see if it was available and was told they had it on display. Drove 50 miles only to be told at the store that they did not have it in stock or on the floor. Very disappointed. Drove home to find out that Sit'n Sleep 5 minx from my home had it on the floor and in stock. We bought it the same day. Great service, no up selling. Disappointed in Mathis Bros. Today I decided to make the 20+ mile drive from Palm Springs to Indio to hopefully find and buy a chair for my bedroom. Recently I purchased a new home and have been trying to furnish it. When I arrived At Mathis Bros. in Indio I was greeted by a nice salesman. He took his time to show me most everything they had and I finally found the perfect chair. I told him I would take it so he went to a computer terminal and started the transaction. He then told me they had sold all their warehouse stock of that item and the only chair left was the one on the floor. I asked him if I could purchase that one and he said normally they would not do that. I explained that I needed the chair today and had made the long drive to find this chair. He spoke with a couple of supervisor salespeople and the final answer they gave him was NO they would not sell me that chair. Their reasoning was that they wanted it to sit on the floor so they could sell orders for more of the same type. I see this companies flashy ads on TV telling people their stock is available for immediate pickup or delivery. I cannot understand why a company would have such a horrible policy that prevents a good customer from buying something they have in stock and have for sale. They not only lost the $300 sale to me but possibly several thousand more on additional pieces I will need soon. I will never go back to Mathis Bros. I don't feel I got a fair shake and I feel what they did was wrong. read more

Had a horrible experience at this store. A couple weeks ago I purchased a patio set, consisting of 2 chairs, a couch and a coffee table. Beautiful set. We wanted to have it for Memorial weekend. Lorana, the sales person waiting on us said, only the chairs and table was avaliable but couch was do in in about 4 days. Plenty of time for Memorial day. That was fine with us since We had almost 2 weeks before the holiday. After a week we had not heard about the couch. So we called. Lorena called us back in 2 days. Her comment was she miss read the computer and there was no estimate of when it would arrive! Upset was an understatement. She said it was her mistake. Of course we knew that . also said she . would call as soon as it got in. Off course we had donated our old set the week before. So we had no patio set. Last Sunday we called again but Lorena was not available so we spoke to another associate who checked on the status of the order.. It was in! No call or anything. We went to the warehouse to pick it up and when we inquired about when it came in we were told a couple days earlier. THE GOOD news is we got it for half of the holiday. I tried to order a chair on-line. After them trying to charge me 210 for delivery to 20 miles away, I was forced to chat with them to get it straightened out. Then they tell me that the chair is only in Oklahoma store. It will now cost 60 to have it transferred to indio. I asked why if it is all the same owner and not franchised out like there commercial says. They wouldn't answer back. just that each store is it's own entity and the charge mandatory. I bought a twin bunk set last year and i had some issues with the bunk beds. Mathis sent out a service technician named Carlos and he is great very polite and he listens which is hard to find in the service industry. I was very happy they way he handled my issue and was able to fix the damaged on his first service call he was very professional and he knows what he is doing. We visited the Indio CA store for the first time after relocating here recently. The place is huge with a lot to see. We won't go back however as the person who "greeted" us followed us all through the store, even though we told her we were just interested in seeing this store for the first time. It was creepy....no matter which room or which floor we were in, she was there......CREEPY !!!! We left as we felt we were being stalked and will never go back. read more

Know that you are not actually buying from Mathis Brothers. You are buying from the individual furniture companies! We spent $7000 on a living room set. Over $5000 was Broyhill 2 couches a chair and ottoman. This is suppose to be a top brand. This furniture started sagging with in weeks. We didn't call right away. But when we did Mathis Brothers said because we picked up our own furniture we had to be responsible to bring our own furniture back to the store for repair and pick it back up or pay for our own drop off and delivered. Long story a little shorter every time we have the furniture repaired with in a few weeks we have the same problems. Sagging bottoms, cushions breaking down or mushrooming up. We have not really addressed the arms which pop when you put weight on them and feel like there is cardboard under the fabric. We have had the furniture repaired 3 times now on our 4th. This time they have said they will fix it at the house. They state that BROYHILL'S POLICE IS ... THEY WILL FIX IT AS OFTEN AS NEEDED BUT THEY WILL NEVER REPLACE IT! so if I call them every time the furniture starts to have a problem, then it would be about every 3 months! FOR THE NEXT 6-8 YEARS! Every time they take the furniture for repair its 2-3 weeks with no furniture. My daughter bought Ashley at the same time I bought this. I thought Ashley was low quality, BUT she has had no problem with hers and she paid less for a whole set then I did for 1 couch! Broyhill has no contact information anywhere on the web! I am looking into lemon laws or what I can do legally! This is toooo much work for something that was suppose to be so nice! read more

paid for table yesterday and went today to pick up today with truck, For some reason you have to go to cashier even though you have already paid instead of going to pick up at loading dock, no one was at loading area so was slow, waited half hour at cashier to get ok to go to loading dock, wife went to desk and asked what the holdup was, invoice was sitting on desk, she did not call us,waited half hour for no reason what un professionalism. I purchased a Lady American Magnifico Cal King Mattress with a 25 year warranty. In less then 2 years the mattress FAILED. Mathis Brothers agreed that it FAILED but said it had a stain from use and I should clean and they would REFUND. I cleaned the stain, they returned to my home.... Now they say there is another stain and will only give store credit for the DEFECTIVE MERCHANDISE. If you buy their furniture DO NOT USE IT, or you void the warranty if they can show any wear or stain even if the product falls apart. I am out $1,198.95 unless I am silly enough to go back to them.
