This is an open-late Portuguese bakery, they have different cheeses and meats as well as a small grocery variety of mostly traditional Portuguese shelf-stable items and cans. There's always two people serving customers and it's a small, quaint shop but some of the best and interesting desserts I've had! Their donuts are also MASSIVE! Nice Portuguese bakery in Pawtucket. Plenty of street parking. A huge Sweet Bread is $3.99. They have empanadas, cupcakes, natas, cannolis, etc. A nice pastry shop, bakery store and basic grocery store. The prices are reasonable. My chicken empanada was OK, not great, a bit dry and not too warm even though it was in the warming oven. My Orange cupcake was delicious. Moist and flavorful. The sweet bread was soft, fresh, airy and crumbly, the way it's supposed to be. read more

Stopped in there this week early to try to pick up some thing I could eat for lunch. I don't really know the little Portuguese fried foods they have but I ended up with one of each from the case. The little cod fish fried cake was outstanding. All the rest I really didn't like I'm not sure that they were fresh that day like the codfish obviously was. read more

Tuesday April 9th 2:39 pm I visit friends and family here and my boyfriend and I were on my way to the airport. We stopped here to speak with a polite slender woman. I asked her for 4 pasteis de nata. The pastries are so good some guy on the freeway past us on the right just to beat us to the exit haha. Very clean! I walked in here and it was spotless. The pastries are in a very clean display case so everything is easy to see and it's all labeled. There are a lot of options. Some are on the bigger end so they could be shared with another person. 4 pastries cost me $5.75 which I thought was reasonable. My favorite was the mini cheesecake--it was very cream cheesy, the perfect texture, and had the right about of sugar. The milk cupcake isn't your traditional fluffy American cupcake. Instead it's a Portuguese cupcake so it's more of a hard custard. My complaint when it came to the cinnamon twist and apple pocket was the dough. First were cold (I appreciated the coldness for the cupcake and cheesecake) so the dough was hard and crumbly. I felt as though it tasted like a poptart--where you could eat it as is but it's better heated. I like to eat in the car so this did not work out well for me since I waited to get home to put it in the toaster oven. Also I didn't think there was enough filling so the ratios were off, and they were pale and dry. read more

Finally tried this bakery. It's a small shop but the breads and bake goods looked amazing. I tried their Linguica, chourico , and chourico bread. For dessert I got elephant ears and a double chocolate muffin. The prices Are very low and the quality is super high, my entire order was less than 12 dollars. Discovered this place by searching on Yelp and was happy to find this place that's close to my workplace. I was looking for a birthday cake, but something a little bit more extra that just your average chocolate cake. I was in luck finding this Portugese bakery that had a marble cake with 3 cannolis decorated on top of the cake. They also have other cakes available as well. I was surprise at all the other bakery goods they had. Everything looks so fresh. I didn't get the other stuff just cause I know I'll be back and wanted to try it with my boyfriend. The cake was one of the best cake and cannolis I've ever tried. The cannoli was so fresh and was soft unlike some other cannolis where the shell is a tad hard. The marble cake was super light. I could eat the whole cake myself that's how good this cake is. In addition, the price is great! It was $25 and I was expecting this type of cake to be $50. If you're looking for a cake definitely get a cake from here. read more

My go to choice for Portuguese bread and pastries! They have plenty of tasty Portuguese pastries and also some typical pastry shop choices, like cookies, turnovers and cupcakes... I come here for the queijada de nata, in my girlfriends opinion only i can make it better lol We both also like the black bean sweet cupcake, it's called queijada de feijao. I've had the turnovers, always good, plenty of flavor options. I also like the small Portuguese sweet bread filled with your choice of lemon or sweet cream cheese. Make sure to ask which is which, as you can't tell unless you've had it before from here, as for each flavor, the dough is shaped differently. I also get the big round loaf of bread, I ask them to slice it for me. There is also chourico sold here, which is solid and better than the grocery store options. They sell Portuguese cheese here, a few options but, I prefer somewhere else for all types. read more

Went here this morning to get some samples of bread because I run a restaurant and am looking to regularly order bread from them. I asked for one roll so I could do a sample of a dish then I'd come in Saturday to buy two dozen then go from there. Then when I changed my mind and asked for a second roll the woman sighed at me like I asked her for the impossible. What happened to customer service? So sad. I just recently discovered Matos Bakery from a post on Instagram via RI Foodfights in regards to a Bacon Lover's donut that is served only on Saturdays. It really doesn't take much more than the words "donut" or "bacon" to get my girlfriend and I out of our door and into yours so naturally the very next Saturday I found myself standing at their counter picking out the Bacon Lover's donut as well as a few other items. I supposed we enjoyed it and the other items that were purchased as we have literally been there every Saturday since. There's so many items here to choose from and I've only had a handful of them but what I have had has all been good. The basic vanilla donut is delicious and the base for their bacon which basically adds smoked bacon bit in it and candied bacon on top. We also tried a cranberry orange fritter which I really like and a Portuguese doughboy which was decent. Aside from these items there's literally counters full of other items which have so many delicious looking items. Matos Bakery is a prime example of a gem in what is not usually considered a desirable city. Pawtucket is coming up people, don't sleep on it! read more

Love this bakery! Their white roll with egg, cheese, and chorizo is fantastic!! Such a genrous portion on decadently soft bread. I also enjoyed their pineapple tart. Their nata has a bit more custard than I'm used to, but great flavor!! They sell the sweetbread that has a hint of lemon to it--very different than what Silver Star offers, so just a matter of preference. I'll be back--I want to try their donuts (didn't see any when I was there--I believe they only sell on weekends), croissants and Portuguese meats and cheeses that they have available. read more

This is the best birthday cake to $ in town! $25 for a big beautiful birthday cake made to order for our daughter. When we went to pick it up we were super impressed and so happy! It looked amazing and tasted great! Easily a $50 cake elsewhere. After the party was over and there was no cake left my wife said "I hope you got a picture!" I didn't. Seriously the best (gourmet) donut in RI. Obviously, if you want a classic donut, you go to Allie's. But if you want something special and mindblowingly good, go to Matos.
