I bought my Cinnamon Babka at the Farmers Market in Providence and fell in love with this sweet tender amazing treat. Often they would sell by the slice (last year) however now I must buy a loaf. The problem with a whole loaf is I will eat every single bite myself, in an embarrassing amount of time. I had never tried babka prior to the sample of sesame praline babka at the Attleboro Winter Market. One bite and I was in love. We finished off the entire loaf which I purchased, within one day. I'm kind of happy that these aren't readily available at my grocery store or my waistline could be in trouble. I'm looking forward to trying the chocolate babka in a couple of weeks. While the price of these is steep at $17/loaf you could taste the quality ingredients and loving craftsmanship in each and every bite. We pass by the Navad Bakery vendor on a weekly basis at the Farm Fresh Farmers market. To be honest, I do try to avoid seeing them at times because their pastry is just so irresistible and I try to watch my carb consumption. This bakery is a must try for anyone who loves bread, pastry and w/e else they sell. My go to is the Burekas with potato and onions, but the pizza bagel (probably not the actual name) is also delicious. We generally eat their pastry right away when it's room temp because we can't wait the car ride home. Today, we actually did wait to bring it back home and heat it. Heating these pastries just amplified the deliciousness!! It was mildly sweet, very flaky and had a well balanced flavor. Purchased a Jersusalem pretzel and a couple of the hand pies from their booth at the Attleboro Farmer's Market. Long line, friendly owner and staff willing to explain the contents of their beautiful baked goods. Until last night I considered Greens chocolate babka (they bake the ones at Zabars) the gold standard for babka. But after last night, Buns has taken over the number one position because it is softer, chewier, moister and more flavorful which if you have ever eaten Greens babka, means it is really, really good! Buns' babka is available for pick-up at selected locations but I heard that it is also available through Goldbelly (I dare not look at their price as locally it is already $16/loaf!). By the way my relatives who turned me onto Buns informed me that the Yelp location of Warren, RI is dated because they now bake in East Providence, RI. So with all due respect to the bakery on Seinfeld, Buns chocolate babka rules the roost. So your only real decision will be do you cut slices or pull off braids to eat! read more

I'd tried the chocolate and cinnamon babka from Buns at the Ceremony tea shop in College Hill and loved it, so I was excited to go to the actual bakery itself! We trekked out to the address on GoogleMaps and were surprised by the lack of a storefront, as the address is actually the location of the industrial, wholesale bakery. Nonetheless, I was able to buy a chocolate babka and they were nice enough to throw in some extra ends from other babka types for free since we made the trek! I never would have encountered Buns Bakery had I not visited the Farm Fresh RI Farmer's Market last weekend. Let me just say right out the gate - that chocolate babka is TO DIE FOR. Babka isn't really a thing in Hawaii; I actually tried my first classic cinnamon babka this past summer in Providence at a friend's place. The chocolate babka from Buns is probably one of the most buttery and moist pastries I've had in New England. It is basically a chocolate/hazelnut croissant on steroids. I also tried the mushroom bur-RI-ka (great pun by the way) because who goes to a bakery and only orders a sweet item? In full disclosure I AM NOT a connoisseur. I went to Barrington Butcher Shop yesterday and bought some beautiful steaks and there sat boxes and cinnamon or chocolate babka. Now my Dad is another story. He'd eat sweets for every meal if he could and Babka is one his favorites. I've been shipping it to him from places like Katz Deli in New York for years. Last night we sliced and warmed it up. I can tell you for me, I have NEVER had a better sweet in my life. The Chocolate Babka is AMAZING! Now the real testimony, my Dad said it was hands down, better than ANY he's ever had previously. We agreed.
