My boyfriend and I love Matsuri. We came in on a whim a few months ago and now this place is our go to spot when we come to Fed Hill. Once you walk in the restaurant you are kindly greeted. You sit down you'll be able to take in the beautiful decor and if you have a seat near a window you can people watch! The sushi is so fresh, and delicious. I've also had their katsu curry (tasty!!) and my bf likes their chicken fried rice which is soooo amazing!

Things got out of hand...We ate a bunch of dead fish. We liked it. You should eat dead raw fish at this place of business.

Still a great lunch spot. I believe the lunch specials have changed, but I still love everything about this place. GLOWS: - the sushi is fresh and delicious- even the most basic rolls can hit the spot. - The seafood fried rice!!! Get it on lunch special if you can. -The fried cheesecake is still a hit. -The service is very friendly and efficient. -The ambience is older, but it gives of the vibe of a small Japanese food shop. GROWS: -Outdoor seating for more than 2 ppl would be nice, but inside is just as good.

I've been here twice: one time for dinner and another time for lunch. If you want cheap and reasonably priced sushi, this is the place to go. If you're looking for quality sushi, then this isn't the place for you. Today I got the lunch roll special (3 rolls for about $16) and although the price was great for the amount of sushi, the quality was mediocre at best. There also isn't much space inside for customers so it felt cramped. Our waiter today was quick with taking our orders but he talked way too fast even after clarification. Sorry but I won't be back.

I really like corner restaurants for some reason and Matsuri definitely is a cute place with a great location. I thought the wait staff were really nice and the menu was extensive without being overwhelming. I thought the sushi was just ok though, not bad in any way but nothing special either. I would come back to matsuri if I was in the area and craving sushi, but I don't think I would seek it out.

The bento box was worth the price and was definitely quite filling. The service was really nice and understanding and they brought the food out to us when it was ready to go! I definitely wished I ordered more variety in the bento box. Parking in federal hill is quite terrible in the evening so we spent just as much time waiting for food as we did parking.

Overall the food and service was good but not great. There was much more rice than I'm accustomed to from other places and that minimized the meat included especially in the special roll. The soup was also half the size I'm used to from other places. On the app there is not a Shrimp Tempura roll available so I had to order the special roll which wasn't part of the lunch special. I also wish there was pork gyoza and not just vegetable available. Again, overall good but not great.

Matsuri is my favorite homey neighborhood Japanese restaurant. Our typical order consists of their miso soup and edamame, and I love trying their different Special Rolls. The service is excellent and staff is so friendly!

I pre ordered online and then went in to pick up. There was an issue with what I ordered not being available and I guess they couldn't reach me on the phone so basically I had to wait in the restaurant for them to prepare my order. I didn't really mind, they were really nice and apologetic for the delay, and it didn't take long. This place is great for something easy to pickup if you live nearby. The sashimi and rolls I ordered were tasty and the prices are reasonable!

What a cute little Japanese restaurant, definitely gives out a little authentic vibe even though it isn't run by Japanese. Sushi, sashimi, tako salad were very fresh Teriyaki and curry dishes also pretty tasty! Uni + quail egg was my favorite. Sake price was a bit pricy but they do have sake cocktails selections. Service was attentive. Street parkings filled up fast. The nearest garage parking is the West st garage.

Came here for the first time for lunch on Friday for restaurant week! The restaurant appears to be Cantonese-owned. Very friendly staff. Interior is cute and has about 5 four-seater tables, so I'd recommend making a reservation on OpenTable at popular times just to be safe. For the better sushi, if you're choosing between Brothers Sushi and Matsuri (they are 300 ft from each other), pick Matsuri. Both have Happy Hour sushi roll prices; I think Brothers is cheaper, but their rolls are definitely not as good as Matsuri's. I had the crispy spicy tuna roll, Ocean Breeze roll, and Volcano roll. I was satisfied and enjoyed their sushi, but honestly none blew me away. I thought the crispy outer coating on the rice in the crispy spicy tuna roll was unique. The Ocean Breeze roll had abundant mango sauce that tasted a bit like a mango smoothie if that's your thing. Volcano roll was baked and creamy, which I enjoyed. The amount of rice was too much. Good green tea mochi ice cream. Standard miso soup at nice temp. All in all, decent sushi for the city. $15 restaurant week was a deal considering the original prices (which are high in my opinion). I probably wouldn't come back because of the higher sushi prices, which may be standard for Baltimore City. I'd say it's worth the drive nearby to Ellicott City, Elkridge, or Catonsville for better priced and better quality sushi.

The best sushi in Federal Hill. My go to is the spicy yellowtail, spicy salmon, or spicy california roll. Staff is so friendly and I am so happy to have them reopened!

I got the Hawaiian Poke Sushi bowl and the Baked Scallop California roll to share. I'm used to being disappointed by the portions of poke bowls at sit-down restaurants, but this bowl did not disappoint. The bowl had a generous portion of tuna and everything was so fresh. For the scallop roll, there was a large baked scallop on each piece of sushi. I thought having something warm on sushi might be odd, but it was delicious! The ambiance is cute and cozy, but a bit stuffy, the person behind me kept hitting my chair lol. The food was mid. I would say I'm a pretty avid sushi eater, this place tries their best, but misses the mark. I enjoyed their appetizers, but actual sushi was bad. The rice is a bit undercooked and has an extra soft texture. It feels a bit too mushy, which feels unnatural. My friend ordered the avocado roll and that was not tasty at all. We asked if we can get it wrote off the bill or returned, but they said "no refund or exchanges!" lol. So we had to take this massive L for the mediocre sushi. That is all; see attached a photo.

Clean, pretty restaurant, fresh food and delightful staff. Staff, Eswuin the young Server is one of the best I've come across. He reads his customers well. He knows exactly when to approach and when to leave well alone. He knows when you're in need of a little extra love and when you just wanna chill with hardly any words. And get this! He's the ONLY SERVER! The staff are friendly and attentive. The raw sushi is pretty authentic and tasty. Portions are fair and price point is reasonable. The menu had a good variety and I feel like there's something for everyone. Raw sushi, cooked sushi (ala carte pieces, rolls); fried items, salads, soups, sashimi, pokebowls, noodles (stir fried, soup); japanese pancakes (okonomiyaki) and different beverages, etc. Quite a few times I've gotten the Deluxe Chirashi Sushi before, both dining-in the restaurant and through take-out orders with DoorDash. It was super awesome and has to be my favorite! It's a bowl of sushi rice with different vegetables (varies: kale, mixed greens, cucumber, radish/ daikon, avocado, micro greens) and colorful delicate slices of seafood (both raw and cooked: tuna/ ahi, seared tuna, white tuna/ escolar, salmon, yellowtail/ japanese amberjack/ hamachi, mackerel, shrimp/ ebi, egg/ tamago, crab stick, fish eggs/ tobiko). It's definitely like a treasure box from the sea. I get so happy when I see this dish! It's almost too pretty to eat! XD I've also tried a few different rolls like: Baked Salmon Philly Roll "Oven cooked salmon, cream cheese, avocado, spicy mayo, sweet sauce" (baked in a foil packet), Eel Cucumber Roll (Unagi), Maryland Real Crab Roll "real crab mix with Japanese mayo, old bay, avocado, cucumber crunch flakes, wrapped with soy paper, special sauce", 3 Roll Combo (Spicy or Regular: California Roll, Tuna Roll and Salmon Avocado Roll). The Spicy Cali Roll was amazing!!!I've also tried the Seafood Pancake (okonomiyaki) "made with wheat flour batter, shredded cabbage, onions, carrots, squash and okonomi sauce, Japanese mayo, on top and shrimp, clams, and mussels". What I really like is how well packed the take-out orders are! They Miso Soup is wrapped in saran wrap to make sure it doesn't spill. There's a piece of carsboard under the soups to make sure they lay flat. The Miso Soup is also very flavorful with lots of tofu and seaweed inside, not watered down with no flavor. The sushi rolls are packed in clear boxes efficiently and with good presentation! I recommend to definitely check this place out! You won't be disappointed (: I can't wait till I order sushi from here again!

I haven't dined here before and might have heard of Azumi but I'm not too sure. She mentioned the portions sizes were small and her fish entree only came with miso dipping sauce and no other sides. Their server didn't inform them of this when originally ordering so she had to order additional sides after their entrees came. They also ordered wagyu fried rice and wagyu air fried rice (what's that?) She did say the fish was good but they all left hungry. These entrées, two cocktails plus two reg bevs came to over $200. The price wasn't a problem however they felt the value when it comes to quantity and price, left them looking for more. They choose Azumi for her husband's 60th birthday celebration and had to ask the server about how they would celebrate him since the check was about to arrive and nothing had happened. Their server asked if they were ordering something from the dessert menu and my friend declined. The server then came back with a small bowl of ice cream on top of a block of ice and three spoons . . . . She said they were all surprised and basically laughed at the "birthday" treat before them and how they were supposed to share the palm sized ice cream. She said multiple times they wouldn't go back and how disappointed her husband was with his birthday dinner experience while telling me the story. SMH I felt bad and asked her why she didn't ask me for a suggestion because yall know, we know who won't disappoint. She also didn't take any pics and I scolded her about that lol. I came as part of a large group dinner. I appreciate that they took large reservations and sat us in a nice spot in the middle of the restaurant. The server was nice and patient, but I did notice his jacket smelled like cigaret smoke. I asked what to get, since the menu is *huge* and overwhelming (I'm not sure why sushi, steak and pad Thai are on the same menu?). He recommended sushi, so I got a flaming dragon roll (I forget the exact name). Anyways, everyone else also ordered and the food came relatively quickly. Now...when I tell you this is the worst sushi I've ever had. Again, I hate being negative but I have to tell it like it is! When they first presented the dish, it was cool because they serve it on fire. I knew that they had sake in the dish (probably so the flame can keep going after they take it out of the kitchen). However, when I bit into it, the sake was *extremely* overpowering. I couldn't taste anything else except the sake. It was extremely alcohol-heavy and I could not finish the dish. I asked others to try it, and they all agreed that it was too heavy. The prices were also very high for what we got. The only food I enjoyed were the appetizers, but they were still unremarkable. Overall, I regrettably cannot recommend this place. None of the dishes stood out, and the sushi was shocking.
