    Pot Roast Bowl

Good experience! They have lots of tables in the back - the front looks like a traditional diner which was cute and hectic - so we took advantage of the beautiful weather and sat on the patio. No wait! The waitress came promptly and our food came out quickly too. Kept our coffees and waters filled, plus they were friendly. We ordered the pot roast bowl and the ya might be a redneck breakfast. Both were delicious and again, came out pretty fast. Glad we spent our morning there! We will be back sometime soon.

Nice breakfast spot- walked here on a Sunday morning around 11am and enjoyed a leisurely meal with friends. No wait, we were seated immediately in the back room, which I didn't see from the outside- this place is a lot bigger than I thought! They put two tables for us together as a party of 9 (including 3 little ones). Our server was friendly and attentive with orders, refills, etc. I had the hunka French toast (pb and banana) with bacon and a couple over easy eggs. It hit the spot. Had a couple cups of nice hot coffee too. Friends enjoyed their omelets, pancakes and grits. Very diner like feel - lots of retro decor, photos, and homey feel- here and great prices/value. Menu is very vegan/vegetarian friendly as well.

We went for a week day breakfast and walked right in. We sat out front on the patio and our server was so nice. We chatted with her as we ordered our water and coffee. My husband ordered the Taylor ham roll and I got the hunka hunka French toast which was delicious. I used more strawberry jam Than syrup which almost made it like a pbj sandwich. Can't wait to go back again for another casual, diner breakfast

Well! I was rushing from site to site today like normal when I saw a lace that said EAT HERE! So I said well why the hell not! Damn glad I stopped. I don't get meatloaf at home so when I saw it in the menu I knew I had to try it. There is good meatloaf and then there's Mattie's moms meatloaf #Banger!! The place is what I expect a diner to look like and this place just oozes attitude I loved it! Great job!

GREAT IF YOUR VEGAN! Tons of Vegan options! Unfortunately I'm not vegan. The place is a flash back to my past growing up in NJ in the Diner scene. Vibes 5 Stars Service 3 Stars Food 2 Stars We had the vegetable omelet a lot of fresh vegetables but so BLAND. I mean I never add salt to my food when I'm out to eat NEVER! But this I had to. Not to mention the dry, cold, stale tasting rye toast. Grits were super basic. Blueberry Pancake looked fantastic but super bland also. They don't have any non pork breakfast options beside vegan sausage or bacon no Turkey options. Oh and your omelette doesn't come with hash brown like most every diner I've ever been too! Service was very intimidating and not welcoming. It was pretty busy so maybe we just went on a off day. It happens. On a high note the COFFEE was really good but the coffee cups are weren't very clean.

The Pappy: scrambled eggs, bacon, home fries, toast

The good news is they offer delivery via the normal channels: Uber Eats, Grub Hub, Door Dash. They also serve food inside at the diner. If only I chose that option. Love me some good diner food action.Had an appointment that I did not want to be late for so I opted for delivery: The Pappy which is 2 scrambled eggs, toast, bacon and home fries with onions and peppers. Had the menu scoped out and happily awaited my order. To my dismay no quality control done on this order. No butter or jelly for my toast; No salt or pepper or ketchup or even hot sauce. No napkins or silverware. Nobody could have checked this order before it left the diner which is very disappointing. Sadly I cannot give a solid rating as I look at my anticipated breakfast getting colder by the minute.. Oh well let me at least eat the toast. No knife or fork needed Lol. #stillHungry

Visited on a Sunday morning around 10am and had no wait. Ordered the Hunka Hunka Burnin' Toast which is Challah French toast with peanut butter and bananas and comes with a side of meat. I ordered bacon. Unfortunately the bacon came out way later than the French Toast and we had to ask the waiter a couple times to bring it. The French toast was delicious. Definitely would return if I was in the area.

Sunday is our chill day so we decided to go somewhere casual at Mattie's diner. We were told we could sit anywhere so we took a booth in the larger room. I was craving pancakes so I got the regular blueberry pancakes and vegan sausage which was delicious. My hubby got the hunka burnin peanut butter and banana French toast with country ham. He enjoyed it but you have to really like peanut butter. We both drank half sweet half unsweetened tea. The staff was friendly and attentive. They also have outdoor seating. Our bill was about $34. The only problem parking is tight. We definitely will be back.

If you know what a diner is, then you're in luck here. Now, the menu isn't 5 pages long, and they are confused on the name of pork roll :) but other than that, it does not disappoint! It's simple, but growing up in Philly/jersey, there's something about diner green beans. Maybe it's that they're overcooked (in the best way), or it's the water they're boiled in, but whatever it is, Mattie's has it figured out. It took me back to our Thursday night diner nights at the Toms River diner. Their Jersey burger is on point (minus calling a delicious breakfast meat by the wrong name), with the right color cheese and all. They also have a decent kids menu, and I love the variety of sides on it. Our server was great, and cool with my kid slowly figuring out how to order for herself (which I thoroughly appreciate)! He also poured the "perfect beer"!!

Who doesn't love diner food? Or breakfast all day options. If you say you don't, are you even human lol. I stopped in abt 1:45 on a Monday, not knowing they close at 2 on Mondays. But that didn't stop me from still getting great customer service. The young man who was my waiter was very sweet. I apologized for coming in so late right before they closed, but he wouldn't hear of it and with a big smile told me it was no prob at all. So I decided to order some blueberry pancakes with side of bacon. Yummy! I went light in the blueberries, and the edges were crunchy which is a must for me and my pancakes lol. I also decided to go ahead and order some dinner to go, got the moms meatloaf with greens and Mac. Can't wait to try that out as well. With so many places closing in town that offer that "old school" feel, I'm so glad after years of not being around that Mattie's finally came back. I remember going to them often years ago when they were over in the Avid Xchange area which back then was known as the music factory. Good times and good food.

Stumbled upon this "Gem" of a place this weekend on Saturday - 20 January 2024; It was a cold morning, and this "New York Fat Boy" was foraging for an appropriate place to fill my belly. So, I took a chance - rolled my Orange Dice and drove my Orange Car over to this "Old School" - Box Car Diner with a tremendous amount of history behind it. Place is packed and bumping. Had to park in the "Overflow" lot next door which goes to show you what is going on. The intoxicating aroma of deliciousness and love simply will draw you in from the parking lot. Immediately - upon stepping into the "Box Car" you are transported away to a different world. How can I describe the Owner/Operator - other than a Captain of a Ship; - Everyone working in Mattie's Diner is amazing; - Everyone is friendly, enthusiastic and stand proud and steadfast devoted to ensuring diner satisfaction; - You feel like you are seated inside a "Box Car Diner" - The ambiance is amazing. Friends - this is a place that you must try. Saturday's Visit was just amazing; - Food was just unbelievable; - I visited there for Lunch; Most folks were eating Brunch. I would come back this morning (Sunday) - 21 January 2024 for Breakfast/Brunch; - This place is more than your typical Diner Food - the place has character, bite and class. The waitresses call you honey and sweetie; - You will not find a more local of a place; Yet - Ironically the Owner/Operator "Mattie" is your "Quintessential" Charlotte Boy originally hailing from Lyndhurst, New Jersey. Apparently - this is where he procured the originally Diner Box Car and transported down to North Carolina. Take a look at my pictures and videos from the weekend; they say it all. Everything that you will devour is made fresh and simply made to order. Tremendous Vegan / Vegetarian options; - You're not going to find a place more respectable of the most discerning palates. This place is frequented by Charlotte's Bravest - Witnessed, Firefighters dropping in to pick up food; - so you know it must be good. Tremendous selection of delicious beverages to wash down your meal; - Including this Amazing "Organic Soda" - Don't fear the Sugar - it was amazing. I'm a Doctor - trust me, a little bit can't hurt you. Pot Roast Entrée was amazing and taste like "Bubbie" used to make; - That's Yiddish for Grandma. This place is the epitome of melting pot with people speaking in various languages, dialects and accents. Don't worry - You won't get lost. Wait staff are psychotically accommodating and will ensure that you leave stuffed and smiling. Parking could potentially be a bit of a challenge, but don't fret/fear - you can make your way to the "Overflow" lot just a few feet away and find a great spot to park; - Otherwise just be patient - there is lots of movement at this place because everyone is coming and going. Place is truly spotless, I have to mention the extremely clean bathrooms; But - that's because the team takes tremendous pride in every aspect of this institution. Sit down, because I'm about to say something important - Mattie's Diner may possibly be one of the top 10 restaurants in Charlotte. I'm not kidding. Enjoy a "Little Slice of Jersey" in the heart of Charlotte, North Carolina - I'm not kidding. Don't be a fool! - Try it! - Great for couples and the family. Could get a bit tight for large groups. Overall - A+ - I challenge you to find a place with better food, down home character and local charm - all rolled up into one. You will leave feeling a part of this institution. Enjoy!

    Orange Soda Float

The Aesthetic: Old-fashioned yet modern diner in a cute vintage building with friendly, NJ service. Retro decor that will make you feel like you're in an old movie. The Price: It is slightly pricey for diner food, but not extravagant. Most prices on the menu are fair for the quality you're getting. You get what you pay for. The Value: This is becoming the theme of my reviews, but you get a lot of good quality food for the price you pay here. I always leave feeling satisfied and full. The Parking: There's only a few spots up front, but there is a hidden lot in the back. If you're going for Saturday or Sunday brunch hours, plan ahead! My Order: My meal here always starts with the Orange Soda float, I'm obsessed. I get too full for my meal every time, but I love it. I also love all of their loaded fries, flapjacks, the mac, the collards, and the pot roast. My lover really likes the Carolina Burg. There is so much to try, I've never had a bad meal here. The Conclusion: Prepare to fire up the jukebox and eat some old-fashioned delights at the best diner in CLT.

And... Landmark is open until midnight!! Sometimes you wonder with a diner... with so many dishes to available, how can the food really taste that fresh and homemade? Gotta say... Every dish we've gotten has actually been so fresh and the portions are very generous. You cannot beat it for the price. (How do they do it?!) Also, whomever works in the kitchen - you can tell they really take pride in their job because we watched several plates come out and all of them were done with such care - all so beautifully plated. My chicken parm was a comfort food dream come true; on point and all I hoped for... Tender, juicy chicken, not sure if the sauce was made-from-scratch, but it could pass for it. (I don't know what they use but it's really good.) And they not only did not skimp on the cheese, the whole chicken breast was covered with it - again they are so generous. (That's one thing I'm always secretly craving when I order chicken parm anywhere - more cheese!) The portion was so big, I'll have plenty for lunch tomorrow. An unexpected surprise: Their roasted broccoli with garlic. Say what?? Yep! It is so good. I don't even really like broccoli. Roasted Brussels and fresh green beans roasted are my jam. But these? Look out! They are actually a bit addictive. Our server, Lindsay, suggested them because they've become a customer favorite lately, and I thought well why not, they could be good... so glad I tried them. Also, the staff at Landmark are so friendly! The hostesses make us feel immediately so welcome. (Pro tip: Ask to sit in Lindsay's section. She goes over and above and treats you like family. She also makes the BEST Arnold Palmers!) If you do stop by, you'd be amiss not to grab a dessert to-go. We especially love their Tuxedo Mousse Cake and their chocolate cake is my favorite in town. I am a brownie lover and really appreciate that they do their brownies right. I LOVE walnuts in mine and Landmark's brownies are deliciously fudgy with little chocolate chunks and pieces of walnut. (I would've included a photo, but my brownie somehow disappeared.) We live across town now, but we still make the drive because it's worth it! Love Landmark!

Even though I now live on another side of town, it's absolutely worth the drive. I ordered the Reuben with a small Karpen Island Salad. The salad was fresh, flavorful, and delicious, and the Reuben was one of the best I've had in a long time. I'm a bit of a Reuben enthusiast and have enjoyed them at delis and diners in places like Philadelphia and New York, and Landmark's was outstanding--perfectly grilled, incredibly flavorful, and absolutely hit the spot. The service was just as memorable as the food. My server was warm and attentive, the host was welcoming, and the manager was gracious enough to let me substitute a small Karpen Island Salad instead of the full-size portion. I'm so glad I took the time to revisit Landmark after all these years. The food is every bit as delicious as I remembered, and I look forward to coming back again soon!

A must stop for both dinner and Southern breakfast enthusiasts…read more On my way home from Charlotte, I used Yelp to find me a classic diner to start my day off right. I choose the Crack of Dawn Diner in Concord. I am so glad I did. Crack of Dawn Diner is the real thing--a local Concord breakfast-and-lunch spot serving traditional Southern fare at reasonable prices. The menu caters to local tastes, the dining room is filled with regulars, and the atmosphere is comfortable rather than trendy. Parking is somewhat limited. The private lot surrounding the restaurant was fully used so I parked in the lot next door that had signs that said private property, but it looked like other patrons were parking there also so I took the chance. As it turns out, it was safe to park there. The entrance is very welcoming, as well as the staff. Amanda was my very efficient and nice waitress. There is great teamwork here, and Amanda was well supported by, I believe, the owner who ran my food out and talked a bit with me. The menu is fascinating. A distinctly North Carolina menu. Several things jumped out: * Breakfast special for $6.59 weekdays * Breakfast plates mostly under $12 * Grits included as a side option * Livermush available * City ham and country ham both offered * Pork chops available for breakfast I ordered the country-fried steak with white gravy (essentially chicken-fried steak), along with two sunny-side-up eggs, perfectly prepared grits, a large buttermilk biscuit, and a delicious diner coffee. The restaurant occupies a stand-alone building with a warm, "come on in and rest a spell" atmosphere. Inside, you'll find counter seating, an open kitchen, and tables throughout the dining room. I chose a seat by the window overlooking the parking area. This was a great breakfast, that was reasonably priced, in a great atmosphere, with very nice people. It stuck to both my mind and ribs all day long. After breakfast, I continued on to downtown Concord and spent some time exploring one of North Carolina's most charming revitalized downtown districts. The breakfast was the perfect start to the morning. Crack of Dawn Diner has earned a spot on my repeat list whenever my travels take me through the Charlotte-Concord area.
