I was back in town last weekend again and we got Mattina's Pizza on Sunday night. It was very good, but the "only" thing I could possibly say in the negative category is that the wings seemed to be light on the sauce when they were being mixed, to the point where everyone commented on how they were lacking enough sauce and it was noticeable. Mattina's was suggested to us right after we arrived in WNY from California in early Spring 2020. We had been staying in an Airbnb in Tonawanda temporarily and the host gave us a bunch of recommendations for pizza and subs. We decided to try Mattina's first and we were so happy!! They don't have pizza like this where we're from...and it was so delicious and affordable! Since ordering the full sheet, we realized a half sheet is plenty. We aren't within delivery range any longer, but we still grab a pizza to go when we're up there. Called and ordered half pepperoni mushroom with banana peppers on half. What i got was hot peppers pepperoni mushroom with half banana peppers. Call they say save thr pizza and give it bad no problem wait an hour after my lunch cause I'm at work. They come I get it as I'm walking back to the door something says check it. It's burnt the crust is black. Decades ago I worked at Francos. The manager would check any order that went back out to make sure it was correct. I got that kind of customer service end years ago. The pizza is not consistent. The crispy parmesan-style wings I ordered were soggy and the worst wings I have ever had, so we threw them out. I called to complain to the manager, and they were very nice and offered to make a new batch. I told them I wasn't looking for anything free, but no, thank you. Typically our go to place for Pizza and Wings for my family and parties for years. Unfortunately the last two visits in June and July have resulted in underwhelming food. Pizza very saucy (more than usual) which we can deal with but the wings ordered extra crispy and hot came undercooked and with little sauce, twice. I live right nearby and frequently order takeout because I can walk there. The pizza is consistently very good, albeit a different style than most circular buffalo pizzeria's with a defined crust. Their wings are fantastic, especially the BBQ. Subs are mediocre so I'm would go elsewhere if that's what you are craving. The only reason they don't get 5 stars is their price. Their prices are at least $3 more than most pizzerias around for a small pizza with 1 topping, and that is magnified when the order increases. I like their food and they are consistent in my experience, but their prices are getting out of hand and it makes me order from other places more often even though I can walk to mattinas. read more

I finally found out what's the Mattina with this place when I was here 3 days ago. The issue is that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. I'll explain in a second. What to order: a slice of cheese and pepperoni. Amazing. What else: the service here is so bad, that it almost makes coming here fun just to experience it. But the food is worth it and it is what it is. I was wondering why the service at my beloved Sheridan/Transit location (there are only 2) is sooooo baddddd. So I came into this original Delaware location to see what the deal is and talk to the owner. This guy has attitude! He has, in fact, the same attitude that the kids at the other location *all* have. He gets defensive. He denies things. He's abrasive with his customers. And most of all he does not wanna warm up his lukewarm slices of pizza for you. You don't even get that option. Don't even ask. There will be a big debate on the necessity of it, if you do. Our warmer is this, these slices are fresh, blah, blah, blah. It's lukewarm. But don't try and tell the owner or employees that. See that's what keeps happening to me at the other location: yelling and raised voices over me asking for a slice warmed up, and insisting. I thought it was "when the boss is away, the kids get lippy" but now I know it's just a Mattina's thing. Starts at the top. I feel better now, because if the business fails, it won't be because the employees were screwing over the owner. Anyway, I wish I could talk to him about the issue but it's an alpha male thing. He doesn't want to hear it. I don't want to get into a fight. I'm one of the single biggest fans of his pizza & wings out there. So I just got a slice. I was offered the choice of crispy or regular slices... that's a first. Meaning one of the pies was a little burned (lol). I chose regular. And the slices are a little better at the other location. But like I told you, I wanna be like Matt Damon. Who doesn't want to be like him? We all aspire to be Matt Damon to a certain degree. Driving at high speed around Parisian streets in a tiny little European car. A citroen was it? A renault? I forget. We all have a little bit of Matt in us. And some of us have actually had a bit of Matt in us before. Such as Ben Affleck for instance. Unfortunately not all of us have had Mattinas. And as much as we may enjoy Matt in us, I can honestly say that Mattinas is better than Matt in us. Trust me on this. Ask Ben Affleck. Ask Jennifer Garner. Ask J Lo. But don't be fooled by the rocks that she's got. She's from the block, you know. And her block had a Mattina's on it for many years. And hence her million dollar behind. I wonder if she really has ever had Mattinass? If not, she should try it. It's delicious. Ben might get upset though. So what's the Mattina with you? Never tried good pizza? Come to Buffalo. We have some of the best and most original, greasy, cheesy, saucy wet pizza in the damn universe, and Mattina's here is one of the very best of the very best. In fact I would squarely (pun intended) put it in my top 5 slices in the region. And I do NOT say that lightly because Buffalo pizza is anything but light. It's heavy as hell and greasy as f***. And we love it that way and if you don't love it that way then GIT OUT OF MURCA. OK just kidding. But really, to put a slice in the top 20 in Buffalo is high praise. Top 10 means it's stratospherically good. Top 5, well... it's squarely out of this world. The reason why "squarely" is a pun is because they are famous here for their weird shapes. Franco's makes square pizza, and Mattina's makes "heart-shaped slices". First came Nirvana's Heart-Shaped Box (and my girlfriend's Heart-Shaped Box) and Chris Isaak's Heart-Shaped World, and now you have the Heart-Shaped Pizza by the Goo Goo Dolls, but written by Kirk Hammett of Mattinallica. The slice is very much like Imperial or Franco's and Blasdell. Imperial is the best in the region, but this place is a very good facsimile of it. But if you're in Amherst, Tonawanda, Kenmore, N Buffalo, then damn, this is the place for you. Cheap, huge, amazing slices and everyone I know that's shared one with me has been blown away by how good it is. Make sure you ask them to heat it up. It's vital to the future of mankind. It's just not as good if and when it's lukewarm. And you'll probably get yelled at for asking and they might even flat out refuse to do it. So if you're Saudi Arabian or you're from a town north of Corfu (i.e. you're one of those Madinas/Medinas) then you need to come and try Mattina's. And as for everyone else, you do too. It really is that good. Come and check it out. And the location over on Sheridan near Transit is even better, by the way. And don't ever let Matt do it the rear way with you. It won't be enjoyable at all, I speak from experience. It's one thing to Mattina's Pizza and love it, but you will NOT love Mattinass. Not at all. Not even a little bit. In fact it's like the opposite of this pizza. Ouch. read more

Stopped here for the first time on advice from a friend. Single wings medium where delicious! Really big wings, fried crisp and not too saucy. I'll definitely be back for wings. I did miss some celery but the individual little bag of baby carrots was appreciated. The eggplant sub was fine but no big deal, I prefer a seeded roll toasted. It was better cold the next day. The walk up window was nice so you didn't have to enter and everyone was pleasant. Saw a lot of people picking up pizzas and next time I'll try that. I was between a 3/4 on this one. On the plus side - great toppings and crust. Thickness ranged around the Bocce side but thinner than Imperial. It could have used a little more cheese and sauce. However, the sauce was that perfect amount of tang and sweet. I'm not a fan of a spicy sauce at all so a little more would have secured my 4 rating. Mattina's is a bit of a controversial place amongst the Tonawanda's. Either people love it, or they hate it. Really no in between. My 4 star review is going to be a big.....bias? I have no affiliation with the place, but, this place reeks of nostagia for me. Here's why. My dad used to get pizza and wings here when I was a kid. It was always great to me. There's something about the sauce and the herbs and spices that goes into it. It's unlike any sauce I've had in the area. There is no crust. Actually, there is, but it's burnt cheese. And I dig it. And they have tiny pepperoni that is no cup and char, but they are delicious no less. Mattina's also used to have probably the best wings in Western New York, easily. Then somewhere along the way, they started constantly overcooking them, especially the BBQ wings (which were amazing). There was a span of 10 years where I hadn't had Mattina's. Then moving back into Tonawanda, I went there and got a large cheese and pep, and bbq wings. The taste really took me back, and hadn't changed a thing, even the inside of the place all looked the same. The wings were char bbq like I remembered, cooked well. Tangy, sticky, sweet bbq sauce with the grill char. And the pizza, was the exact same. I even ordered extra sauce because the sauce is that damn good. If I'm being honest, the kid in me rates this pizza a solid 8 all day long. The adult in me rates it a 6.5. The wings are still okay, probably a 7-7.5 and the pizza is good. But the sauce is really good, the dough is good, the cheese on it kind of bores me? I don't know. And the pepperoni is above average Either way, Mattina's for the most part is still good. When I don't go to Franco's, I go here. I would rate Mattina's a 7.5/10 as a whole. read more

Typically Mattina's is one of my favorites in the Buffalo area however, my last experience was less than enjoyable. I ordered a small pizza and a large chicken finger sub to split with my family. The pizza is always delicious and I never had any complaints about it. My problem was with the chicken finger sub....The chicken was raw!! I was upset not only because I took a few bites before realizing the chicken was uncooked but I am also pregnant. I did get sick afterwards but I ended up being ok. My husband called to make them aware of the situations, instead of being apologetic they made it seems like we were bothering them. Ordered a Party pizza and 50 wings two separate times and both times they sent us a large pizza. The first time they apologized and sent over a half pizza to make things right. The second time they stated they could not find our order so they asked to call me back. When they called back they advised that they only charged us for a large and 50 wings.
