I bought a mattress here and was told that to return it, all I needed was to pay 99 dollars plus 20% of the sale. They threw in a free adjustable frame, which I wasn't going to say no to. Then when I tried to return it, they said I had to pay an extra 300 for the adjustable frame! Even though I specifically talked to the salesperson about what I would pay for a return. I'd never even heard of Mattress Firm before last month, but I suddenly needed to pick up a pair of queen mattresses and their Park Slope location was convenient, so I walked in. Mary helped me; she was very knowledgable about her products and helped me find what I needed. She was great at following through once we'd set up the order (I had some tricky needs regarding delivery that she was quite helpful with). Mary clearly knew her stuff, which I really appreciate, as so many retail chains don't seem to bother investing in staff training. Ultimately, I ended up needing to pick up the mattresses myself, and Alex was great at helping me coordinate parking my van near the store. He also grabbed a dolly and helped bring the mattresses out so I could get on the road ASAP--really appreciated given how busy Park Slope streets are and how tenuous parking can be. It all started off strong with a salesperson who helped me pick a top of the line Queen hybrid bed and adjustable base within 15 mins. We arranged it to to be delivered to my new address in Seattle in Jan. That was the last good part of my Mattress Firm experience. After a delivery delay, the first attempt was foiled by a delivery person who said "as a 1099, I'm not allowed to touch your bed frame" (untrue) when it turned out it needed adjusting to fit the adjustable frame and couldn't offer help as to who could. They left me sans bed and sans plan. A supervisor called and I told him the story, and he didn't offer anything else. I did get help from the BK store, and adjusted the frame myself. The next scheduled delivery happened but left me with damage, and in the kerfuffle, without one item. To this day, I haven't received it despite calls to two supervisors and the store. And now, after having my mattress and bed frame for just 5 months, the lemon of an adjustable base I was sold has DAMAGED the mattress! I filed a claim and it was DENIED. So now I have a very expensive damaged hybrid mattress, a malfunctioning expensive adjustable base, I'm one item down and I've got floor damage to fix on my own. My advice: Go somewhere else. read more

When you walk into a Sleepy's you're in the market for a good mattress for sure and you have to be prepared to be a tough customer. At least you should be as Sleepy's is just like a car dealership. At first, I dealt with Pauline. She was actually very nice and we had long discussions on what's a good bed and she made me think about going Plush over Firm. I was hoping to try out a firm mattress that was posted on their website that had 12 good reviews, but alas they do not have it and instead she offered me one that was supposedly better. And it was, but I'll get to that later. Unfortunately I didn't want to pay the $90 shipping, so I opted to stay with the Dover Creek by Serta. I gave her a $50 deposit so I can think about what I want to do with my order. The freebies were there on my receipt - comforter and camcorder from the Labor Day Sale. Enter Yuri (since Pauline wasn't working at this location), the 2nd day when I came back with what I want - with prices of things I printed online (which all salespeople hate). Yuri matched as best he could everything I printed, however salesmen have to answer to a boss - who I may imagine are actually in a factory. Negotiated prices have to be approved and I came out with several different invoices because the system won't allow certain things - at some point free shipping was taken out. At one point Yuri rudely said aloud, "I don't care, as far as I'm concerned your're good to go" after I pointed out the invoice charged me for shipping... until his boss called a minute later to point out another discrepancy. He didn't print me a final receipt and quickly dismissed me to talk to another customer who just walked in. I reached over and pressed the print button myself and lo and behold the camcorder wasn't on the invoice. WTF. I walked out as my blood pressure was too high and I wanted to deal with Pauline instead so I called back the following day. While Pauline wasn't there, one of her associates reiterates the items on my receipt and the camcorder IS in fact on it. (Go figure). She emails it to me. I notice that the delivery date isn't on the invoice but Yuri said the 14th. Later I read the fine print and Sleepy's is liable of giving a full refund if they aren't able to deliver. They delivered everything except the camcorder on the 16th. Yuri says I have to talk to Pauline when she gets in. I opted to actually build my bed frame myself - which in retropect was a bad idea as four screws that were supposed to be predrilled came out which I originally thought was missing. The bed itself, is terrible as it feels poorly constructed - you can feel the springs on the side of the bed. Go somewhere else if you're in the market for a mattress. read more

A saleswoman named Mary spent a lot of time with me trying out the mattresses and explaining the technology. As for the delivery service, I was able to track the truck on line and got a call about 15 minutes before they arrived letting me know they were almost at my house. My girlfriend and I decided to buy a new mattress a few weeks ago. We went to this Sleepy's not knowing exactly what we wanted but knowing the price range. Luckily we went the last day of a 1/2 off sale. The salesman at the store was very patient, knowledgeable and helpful. We were the only customers there at the time and he didn't rush us or push us into a specific mattress. We picked the one we wanted and paid for it. The salesman said they would call the following week with a delivery time because the mattress wasn't in stock. If the delivery had gone smoothly I would happily give Sleepy's a high rating on here. But I can't do that because of how badly Sleepy's messed up the delivery. The week after purchasing the mattress, we received a message that our order would be delivered on Sunday (no time specified). We stayed home all day and evening waiting for the delivery. Sleepy's never showed up or called. That evening we called the main delivery number to see what happened and were told to call back the following day to reschedule. On Monday we called several times but every time we got through, a representative told us their computer system was down, and asked us to call back in an hour. On Tuesday we called several more times and again we were unable to get through to someone who could schedule us because their computer system was down. Wednesday morning my girlfriend and I were both at work. She received a call that the delivery guys were at our apartment for our delivery. Since Sleepy's did not notify us or schedule the delivery with us in advance we weren't home. Ugh. Wednesday afternoon through the weekend I called about every two hours during business hours to try to reschedule the delivery. Every single time I got through I was told their computer system was down and to try to call back in an hour. At some point during that week I tweeted that Sleepy's had the worst customer service I had ever experienced. A customer service representative got in touch with me on twitter and asked me to email their customer service email address with details of my order and what happened. So I wrote a recap providing the details they wanted, and I asked if they could help actually schedule the delivery for a time that Sleepy's would a) show up, and b) confirm with us. I received a generic response to my email but never anything addressing my specific complaint or helping us reschedule. After a week of calling Sleepy's to reschedule the delivery without any luck (their computer system was down every time I called) we pretty much gave up on our new mattress. A few days later, my girlfriend received a call in reference to my tweet. Yes.. they called to address my tweet, not in response to my detailed email with the info they asked for, or our repeated calls. This time, the representative I talked to seemed to understand that Sleepy's had a serious problem fulfilling the delivery. I asked her if she could help us reschedule and said that if it didn't work out we'd have to cancel our order. She said she would help us. She put me on hold and a minute later I was disconnected. We called American Express to cancel our order a few days later. Stay away. Stay far far away from Sleepy's. read more

5 stars for delivering the mattress on time 4 stars for the mattress itself (comfortable, if overpriced) Negative 6 stars for selling me a frame that broke after 2 months, and not even advising me that there was more than one frame model available Can you imagine a bed frame breaking? I didn't know this was a "thing" now. I guess I'm behind the times. Afterwards I was told by the salesman that there's a 300lb weight limit on the frame. That means between the two of us, me and my bedmate would need to lose 20 pounds. I was invited to upgrade to the 450lb model for an additional fee. How nice. I wish mattress stores would just offer you a menu like in a Chinese restaurant - order by number with pictures. If you order beef chow mein, you pretty much know what you're going to get. Instead, I bought what I thought was a metal bed frame, and the connection between the frame and the wheel was made of plastic. PLASTIC! Race to the bottom, people. I've come to the conclusion that the mattress industry is a home for thieves and charlatans. My advice: sleep on the floor. read more

Two days ago I put in an order with Mattress Firm with specific guidelines on delivery time - (must be between 9:00 - 5:00 or my building will reject the delivery). Salesperson said they could do it - "no problem." Yesterday I did not hear anything from the company or delivery company throughout the day. As it was nearing the end of the delivery window for my building, I attempt to call and use the Chat feature to get an understanding of what is going on. No luck with people on the phone, 30+ wait time, used call back feature, no one calls back. Use Chat feature with no luck, continually get people who do not respond back or push me off on someone else. By this time I am frustrated and worried that I will not receive my mattress as committed to by Mattress Firm. I kid you not I called 3x and tried to chat 6x with people - no luck or valuable information. Around 6:30 the delivery man shows up, even though I told all the people I chatted to and talked to that any delivery after 5:00 could not be accepted by the building. The delivery person did not know that. Ok, so there is a disconnect between MattressFirm and their 3rd. Party Logistics Delivery companies. They don't communicate and the promises that Mattress Firm commit to cannot be held by the delivery companies. In my way of thinking this should not be the customer's problem. I try to chat and call this morning again -- (I would think MattressFirm would have tried to contact me after the previous days issues, if they want a satisfied customer). After 30 minutes I finally get a sales representative that finally explains that Mattress Firm has no real agency or power to promise that my mattress will be delivered before 5:00 on Monday. Mattress Firm has failed to deliver as promised, their sales people do not take instructions and their customer service is under-trained, ignorant or dis-empowered to help. The fact that they use a Delivery Service should not be an excuse, which was used by the last customer person I talked to. I am a frustrated customer and will share this story with as many on-line rating services that are out there as well as in my own personal circle. I look forward to the day Amazon takes your business too and the delivery companies are replaced by robots. read more

I don't really know which Brooklyn Sleepy's outlet to blame, but I made a serious error. Everyone told me not to trust craigslist or curb-side to get a bed. They scared me into submission with tales of bedbug infestations and scabies outbreaks. "They're coming to get you," everyone said. Sleeping in the living room couch, awakened often by two nice roommates with erratic schedules was getting tired. I was getting tired. So I relented to someone's sweet offer to contribute to a bed as a housewarming present. They went for Sleepy's. It was very expensive for my kind of budget, and I offered other options. These folks didn't want to look any further. I then suggested we picked it up, but before I could insist, they paid the $80 delivery charge. Sleepy's was supposed to come Monday. On Sunday, they called and explained they couldn't do it Monday. Thanks for the notice. They couldn't give me a time frame I schedule into my life until Friday. (They don't do Thursday deliveries.) Then, of course, I waited the full four hour window they gave me, and called them after it was over. They apologized, said it would be over in 45 minutes. An hour and a half later, I called again, and they said the truck was on my block. Thirty minutes later it finally came. And through all of this, I received or made calls to Sleepy's an unfortunate number of times. Every time I had some time on Hold, and every time they attempted to brainwash me with a set of short jingles of varying Adult Contemporary and Classic Rock styles, with different women singing in different tones and at different tones the same mantra: "Trust Sleepy's... ...for the rest of your liiiife." And the bed? It's uncomfortable and kind of flat. Don't trust Sleepy's. read more

Purchased our second mattress from this store. The service was great. Not sure the name of the person who sold us the latest mattress, but he asked us a couple of questions and pointed to one mattress. After an hour of trying all different other kinds, we came back to the one he pointed to us. We had it for almost a month now and love it! The delivery was scheduled in a couple of days on Friday, that same day I got a call indicating the time within an hour when the delivery will be made. They came within that exact time window, took out our old mattress and brought in the new one. The price for the mattress was a bit much, but after asking about a discount, we were told that this mattress was on sale 2 weeks prior. So the sales person calls the manager and checks whether we can get the same discount. Needless to say - we got the mattress for $300 less. One last thing to note, we came shopping with 2 of our kids who let's just say are not the best shoppers. Other than completely trashing the place, they've done it all. Jumping on beds, running around etc. The sales person who was there, did not only allowed them this mayhem, he didn't even once mention the fact that he would have to fix up the place after we were gone. Great personal service, great price and on spot delivery. I don't know what else to ask for. read more

Alex and Ralph have bent over backwards to help me. They are wonderful, honest guys, very patient, friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. I've had back pain & insomnia for years, so a bed purchase is a difficult challenge for me, and it brings out all of my quirks as a customer. These guys endured me coming in constantly, sometimes for hours, laying on different beds, bringing in my own toppers to try them with, keeping them there until closing, helping me get the best deal, answering questions again and again (even though I had asked them many times before, sometimes two days in a row), and always with a smile and a "hey [my first name]! how are you!" (and all totally genuine). I should say that I was an exchange customer, so nothing was in it for them. I finally picked a Comforpedic that I am very happy with that Alex chose after listening to my loooong history, and Ralph recommended a great topper. Tom, the manager, is also super nice and helpful. And hey - who doesn't want to listen to "Dad Rock" hits from the 70s all day! I just bought a futon from Sleepys too, and they gave me a great deal--just because I asked. Basically, Sleepys employees are just darn helpful, nice people--and I have met and talked to A LOT of them all around New York (just beware of the Canal St. outlet--I found them to be a bit shady*) And they all have pretty interesting and cool background stories if you get talking to them! Go see Ralph and Alex! *Kenny at Canal St. tricked me into buying a box spring when I told him I had a bunky board on my platform frame. That said, another Sleepy's MP was the one who actually told me I didn't need both, was very apologetic that that happened and helped me do an exchange. I did have to pay re-delivery fee, which was disappointing. But A) I bet if I called the main customer service line and told them what happened, they'd refund that fee and B) if you go to Park Slope, you have nothing to expect but excellent and honest service. read more
