He gave us plenty of space and time, answered all of our questions and helped us purchase 2 perfect matches for what me and my wife were looking for. Joel (the owner) and his floor guy Andrew were AWESOME to do business with! If you're in the market for a new mattress, look no further. I had researched mattresses online and had narrowed my options to Tempurpedic or Chattam & Wells, and wanted to try them live. While it was easy to find retailer who have Tempurpedic on the floor, Chattam & Wells was harder: a lot of mattresses shops carry it, but they don't have it on the floor cause it's too expensive. As a result, they were all trying to convince me to buy another brand. Instead, the Mattress King had a couple of Chattam & Wells on the floor. Once I tried the Chattam & Wells, there was no coming back...OMG! Joel and Andrew gave me an offer on the spot, and when I told them I had a better offer somewhere else, they did the impossible: they beat the best offer I had!!! They delivered the mattress one week later (white glove delivery). Two days sleeping on it, and my lower back pain (which I've had for years) is GONE! So: if you want the Rolls Royce of mattresses (Chattam & Wells) at the best possible price and with the best possible service, don't waste your time with any other store: just get to Mattress King and speak with Andrew or Joel. read more

The store has a solid selection of local-brand mattresses (Maxim, Eastman, etc.) at very good prices. Andrew is excellent -- knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely helpful and kind. I'll admit I came in multiple times while narrowing down my decision. Buying a mattress is a significant purchase, and with a 25% restocking fee in place, I wanted to be absolutely certain before committing. I had actually narrowed it down to one of their recently added selections, which felt significantly better suited to me than the much softer version I had tried earlier -- even though it didn't have the latex I was looking for.* While lying on the mattress, totally focused on whether this build would work for me long-term, I was completely caught off guard to learn that the owner -- referred to by Chuck, his employee, as "The King" -- was monitoring the showroom remotely. He had called in to say he "didn't want me hanging around." (Lying around would have been more apt.) I fully respect his right as the owner (he's 83 and has run the store for many years) to operate his business however he chooses. That said, his attitude hardly felt kingly. It would have been far more productive for him to simply ask to speak with me on the phone, clarify whether I genuinely liked the mattress I was lying on, hear what my remaining questions were, and then make me an offer I couldn't refuse -- something his salesman seemed unable to do and he didn't seem interested in doing either. The good news is the mattress is available at several other retailers. Long live the king!!! *I should also add that several models don't have spec cards at all, leaving customers to rely entirely on whatever the salesman remembers or chooses to share. And because the stated materials don't always jibe with what's on the legal tag, it becomes surprisingly difficult to confirm what a mattress actually contains. Some of the cards they do have are incorrect -- for example, the Opal 3 spec sheet (which includes latex) was inserted into the Opal 2 card holder which doesn't. Clarifying with individual manufacturers takes time and effort, and the inconsistency creates delays and a sense of mistrust in what I'm being told. read more

UPDATE #3. I accidentally deleted a review of mine which said to make sure you encase your mattress well if you do decide to buy a floor model. Now, I see the irate owner made a false statement about my review. It was NOT fake. I've been on Yelp for years writing reviews. My receipt clearly says "floor model" on it. Also, fleas can lie dormant for weeks and months before hatching. It only takes one flea to cause an infestation. BUT I had the flea problem shortly after I got my mattress -- I called the manager to tell him -- I posted my review LATER when I had time. People are lying on these mattresses with their clothes and shoes on. It's a risk you take when you buy a floor model of anything. I won't be doing that again - lesson learned. But after all of this, I will say I love my mattress and got a terrific deal. Just cover it as soon as you get home! The one star is because of the owner calling my review fake. read more
