During my last trip out to New York, I had a layover at PHX Airport for both my outbound and inbound flights. Since each of the layovers were for a couple of hours, I walked over to the B concourse to eat here. Both times, I got their steak & eggs with sourdough toast and coffee. What can I say? I'm a creature of habit. Service was good. Coincidentally, I had the same waitress both times. Since breakfast food is my favorite and you can get it even for dinner, this will be my go to spot whenever I'm at the PHX Airport. read more

Eggs made from real eggs! You get to order from an actual human server, not a stupid tabletop QR code that makes you pick a tip amount before you know if you will actually get your food (grrrrr)! Real (I think ) maple syrup -- not flavored corn syrup -- on my waffle! And finally: nice music!. Maybe heavy or alternative-ey for some. But it's not the "woman sings/whines/yodels, sort of in tune, with marbles in mouth" sound that i am unfortunately hearing more of . While wait staff was great, treated us well and seemed to be attentive as much as they could, there was only one server or at least that's what I saw, and she was all over the place with a full restaurant. Despite the name, Matt's Big Breakfast at the airport has lunch and dinner too. On my most recent visit I got the Mamacita, topped with slices of bacon and gooey cheese. It's airport pricing to be sure at about $20, but a respectable burger with a hearty side of steak fries. I was a little worried those big potato slabs would be soft and squishy, but they were fried perfectly. The BLT is also very good - it's slightly less pricey than the burger and comes with skinnier fries. Good selection of draft beer and a full bar. Friendly and efficient bartender. I've always heard rave reviews about Matt's Big Breakfast and perhaps I was not blown away because it was the airport location. We started off with a black coffee (not lattes or speciality coffee items; again I understand this is an airport location) and a Bloody Mary. The Bloody Mary was giant and came with olives, cheese cubes, and a giant piece of bacon. Spicy but not too spicy. Between the two of us, we share the Sonrisa Breakfast Burrito and added avocado and bacon. The burrito was seasoned well and eggs fluffy but I just was not blown away and have had better breakfast burritos. I will hope for a better meal at one of their other locations. read more

Ordered over $100 in food and was denied a seat in their dining area. No one was at the podium seating people so we ordered from the register. We were then told we couldn't sit down and eat because the dining room was only for customers who were dining in. We were told to go eat at the gate. This location of Matt's Big Breakfast is in terminal 4, next to gate B5 of Phoenix airport. While waiting for my flight out, I decided to get a breakfast burrito to go (Sonrisa Burrito, $11). The wait was exorbitant - I think around 30 minutes standing and waiting. While it was a good size, I wasn't a big fan of the textures inside the burrito nor flavor profile of the provided hot sauce. I'd try one of their other locations, but next time I'm in the airport I'll go for something pre-made or the standard fast food players. read more

Great service. Had a long wait due to delayed flight. Sat at the bar. The manager was really funny, kept us all engaged with his jokes. Ordered two burgers, with fried egg. Didn't see it as an option on the menu, but they made it happen. I am very particular about my egg- I want the yolk to be runny. I jokingly threatened to send it back if it was overdone (which maybe wasn't a joke?) but it came out perfect so I didn't have to even think about it. You can see parts of the kitchen from the bar. They're working hard back there. Fries are good. Def sub for them. Butter burger isn't anything special. Without the egg, I probably would have doused it in ketchup. Good size patty though. I recently had breakfast at this place after a long red eye flight. Arrived not long after they opened and there were maybe 10-12 people seated, mostly sitting at the bar. I was barked at to sit at the bar if I wanted timely service. Coffee was lukewarm and watered down. I had to ask for cream and sugar. I ordered one of the scrambled egg options - received greasy and rubbery scrambled eggs that looked like leftovers from the previous day that had been reheated. There was at most one egg (menu stated three eggs). The potatoes were brown and soggy. The food was clearly not freshly cooked and barely edible. Possibly the worst food I've had at a restaurant. The service was quick, but not up to basic US standards. No one asked if the food was ok, if I wanted a refill of coffee, etc. Clearly the staff does not care. Overall, this place is not only a rip-off, but a potential health hazard. Not sure how this place has any reviews above 2-3 stars. After reading all of the 1-2 star reviews with many people voicing the same concerns, I'm actually shocked that this place is still in business. Avoid avoid avoid. read more

I wish I could give this place a higher rating as some businesses do live or die by reviews, however, my experience here really left something to be desired. I had about 50 minutes before my flight boarded at the B gate and I thought that would be enough time to grab a quick lunch. I ordered a beer and to be safe, ordered my burger to go, just in case. The beer came with no problem and then I waited, and waited and waited... Finally the waitress/bartender checked on my meal about 40 min later, and seems the kitchen never received the order. Waitress was nice enough about it, and I didn't make a fuss really. She asked if I wanted a sandwich to go from their take out counter and I declined. I'm giving this place 2 stars because the waitress was nice and really tried her best. I paid for my $13 beer and didn't leave a tip. To be honest, I think the beer could have been on the house, given what happened. I didn't have any lunch in my belly and can tell you, I had a drive from where I landed, so made for a not so great afternoon experience. I don't know what to say anymore and really have no expectations when it comes to hospitality, everything these days just seems to have taken a nose dive, it's this new normal I am learning to live with. I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with the experience my family and I had at your restaurant on Sunday, June 8, 2025. Unfortunately, our visit led to us missing our flight and incurring significant inconvenience. We placed our order right away, but had to wait over 35 -40 minutes for our meals. To make matters worse, the two tables seated next to us arrived after us and received their orders long before ours. When our food was finally brought out, three out of the four meals were served. I waited an additional 10 minutes for my steak and eggs meal, which never arrived. At that point, I had no choice but to cancel my meal as we needed to leave to catch our flight. My family rushed to eat the meals that had arrived and did not get to enjoy them. The issues did not end with the food and service. The volume of the radio/music playing in the restaurant was uncomfortably loud, making it difficult for customers/us to hear important flight change announcements over the speaker. After leaving to catch our flight, we learned that our flight had been switched to a different gate. By the time we arrived at the new gate (B18), the flight had already departed.This added another layer of frustration to an already disheartening experience. The combination of poor service, long wait times, and the noisy atmosphere directly led to us missing our flight. This caused significant financial loss, along with a great deal of stress for my family. I urge you to reconsider the way your restaurant operates, particularly with regard to meal preparation times and the volume of music. Customers should not have to choose between enjoying their meal and hearing important announcements. Additionally, it is essential to ensure that your staff is trained to handle customer orders in a more timely and efficient manner. Truly unfortunate to give my once favorite "go-to" breakfast spot a 1 star. I was ready to walkout but unfortunately I was starving enough to barely stay. Service today @1715 on 08/05/23 was horrific. Seemed like the servers were bickering at one another, and arguing over who'd take the next table (seemed like neither wanted to) along with customers asking one server for service and she told them to wait for the other server (she was in conflict with) to help them. ‍ It was a sad day today. The place is the better of the other options at B gates if you want a bite of prepared food. We ordered a few breakfast items (eggs and waffle) but the highlight was the Bloody Mary. The garnish is a meal in itself with bacon, two kinds of cheese and pickle and olives. Just the right amount of spice without having to add any Tabasco. We have been known to drive 35 minutes or more to their downtown location. Here is my issue with this location .. doesn't have the same feel at all as far as service. One of my favorite things about the other locations is everyone helps out .. you never have a need for anything. We walked up and the sign says "wait to be seated" which we did. We waited and waited and watched two employees just chat away. I approached them and asked if there was a hostess ... the red headed gal (noon on a Wednesday in case management wants to know) told us "someone will be with you, you should stand back by the hostess desk" clearly offended. The other gal asked .. if there are two of you ... you are welcome to sit right here (now that's good service. Her name is Karina) Karina ended up serving us, she was awesome! Really nice lady. Ordered a Reuben which is highlighted on the menu. The food came out hot and tasty, but there was only two thin slices of pastrami on two huge slices of bread. Pretty disappoint, especially as a signature dish for $34. Must be a rationing going on for Pastrami. If I'd known I would opted for a burger or the turkey sandwich the guy next to me ate that had an inch thick of turkey on it. Food was mid at best. The server gave us one menu, never brought water, and never came back for our drink orders. About 30 minutes into our meal, After trying to flag our waitress down for 10+ mins, I went to the bar and ordered 2 waters and a Bloody Mary (full price) and then was not told that there was no bacon until I after I paid. The waiter treated me like I was stupid and tried to make analogies for why I don't deserve a partial refund for the drink. They eventually brought bacon, but the quality was terrible and it tasted like chewy rubber. The bartender was incredibly unwarently rude to my friend and I, talking down to us or at times not responding at all. The bartender and server demanded to see our IDs multiple times and were angry with us for ordering from the bar (and not our server) even though we explained we had to because we needed water and never had our drink orders taken. My friend went up to get her drinks, ordered two shots of Tito's and a vodka soda, and got charged $39 for all (which is a lot in my option) just to take the shots and realize they were not even Tito's! We weren't supposed to be in Phoenix - this was like an hour layover from NYC to Vegas and since we were hungry so gave it a shot and we were pleseantly surprised - this probably has to be the best airport restaurant we ever had and we travel very often. Their BLT was the best. If I had had more time, I probaby would have gotten another one. Serivce was quick as we would expect from any airport restaurant. Nothing bad to say about. Not much of ambiance but we can't expect that from the location. It looks like a local joint so probably we can't expect them to be in a different city, like NYC but we'd definteily patronize if they come to our city. Keep up the great work! read more

I know it's an airport but soooooo disappointing. Cold coffee, too busy for #of servers and was overcharged because I used the app QR code on the table due to how busy the server was. There is no option to substitute items so I completed the order with taking off one protein and adding another. Instead of a sub, it charged me additional for the replacement item. When I asked my server about it, she told me she could not change it because it's how I rung it up. She was apologetic, but I'm not sure why I have to pay more because they were too busy to ring me up in the first place. I was in a great mood when I came in and a horrible mood when I left. Definitely, don't recommend. Note to restaurant : if you're going to ask and encourage people to use the QR code to make sure the app support them ringing it up properly, so they're not overcharged. Either that or make it clear that you can still order from the waitress to to get it done properly to begin with.. I wasted $32 on a breakfast that wasn't good and a cold coffee. Bummed read more
