unfortunately I ended up dup with a vehicle that had the brakes serviced by this shop but they installed the rear pads the wrong way so the rivets on the outboard pad caused damage to the piston and its seal because they were installed inboard instead of the correct orientation. So I had to replace both rear calipers and since the boot seal was damaged it leaked fluid and ruined the pads. so I only got 20k miles out of that pad and rotor job when it should have been closer to 100k miles. Maybe it was just an off day but the fact that both sides were like this makes me wonder. Other work that was done seems fine. But the brake job has me concerned. read more

Since I retired I hadn't had my car serviced in about two and a half to three years. I brought in my tundra 20-year-old truck and they took care of it had it done by the end of the day what they did was quality five stars and they were very reasonable on the price great value. Today was my first experience with Matt's Place. I took a friend's car there who has used Matt's Place for years. I called Tuesday requesting an appointment for either a Thursday or Friday, and they were able to get me in on Thursday morning. When I arrived I had a great in person conversation with Matt and was told I would receive a call soon with an estimate. That is exactly what happened, I received a call about 45 minutes later with an estimate that came in well under what I was expecting. I authorized the work and was told the car would be ready by noon. I received a call at 11am informing me the car was ready for pickup. Matt and his son also did a couple complimentary things to the car, and I couldn't be happier with the experience. Matt's Place has earned my trust as well as my business. read more

I had a great experience here today. I had a couple of screws in a tire and called to see if they could fix it. Matt said to come on in. Unfortunately, I will not be back! I called to schedule an oil change and a 60,000 mile check, also had a break light out. Made arrangements to drop off with Matt, he said he would give us a call when done. Never called, when I called at 4 pm I was told the oil change was done and the light fixed, "don't have time today to do the 60,000 mile check".... So, for $120 I got a break light fixed and an oil change, not even synthetic! Shame, I really like to support local businesses. read more

I found the customer service to be terrible. I dropped of my truck to be diagnosed for a problem with the air conditioner. They were supposed to call me and let me know what was wrong with it. I never received a call, I went back by around 6 pm to see what was going on and to get my truck. The attendant had to call Matt. He told me he wouldn't diagnose my car for someone else to fix. I was willing to pay him to tell me what was wrong with it, discharge the Freon and then I would bring it back to recharge it. I will find someone else that will be happy to take my money to just diagnose it. We spend about $400.00 a month on gas at that station but we will never go there again. read more

My experience here was absolutely reprehensible! I brought in my truck for a minor issue and a couple months later my entire fuel system broke down and it was inoperable. After having a thorough investigation by two other mechanics, we found proof that parts in the fuel system were purposely sabotaged. It cost me over $1,000 in parts alone to fix it. When I confronted Matt at Almaden Chevron, he completely denied it. I showed him the proof and he wanted nothing to do with it. He was extremely unprofessional and used foul language to me and my family. He later flipped me and my bf off and told us #%$! off. In my opinion, this business is very dishonest with their work and is very untrustworthy to their customers. I recommend going somewhere else. read more

Some of the gas pumps are inevitably out of service at night. I've taken my car here for easy service, and had to bring it in three times to get it right. This could be a good place with a little effort, but for now there's a lot better nearby. read more

I own a 2002 f150 and I have done all the maintenance and work myself on my truck as I am able to do almost all the jobs that it needs. Yet, there are some jobs I do not have the tools to complete such as mounting and balancing tires. I had just bought a brand new set of Fuel hostage wheels for $1000.00 dollars and had a pair of used toyos to mount on these. I came to Matt to mount these very nice guy and did me a favor mounting these for a good price even though he refused to balance them but I figured I would somewhere else. Now this is my warning DO NOT GET MECHANIC WORK HERE. Matt is very nice guy there is no questions, his mechanic/s do not know what they are doing, I brought my truck here and they said they had trouble with the mounting. It wasn't until I got home that i realized the wrong tread lug nuts were places on them which almost costed me to go an buy a whole new hub but luckily the wheels studs were not stripped. I went to Matt explained to him his mechanics must need training if they couldn't but correct lug nuts on. The next problem is my biggest things the carelessness in there shop. My wheels were brand new and I just put smaller tires on and now that the inner ring of my wheel is noticeable they completely scratched and damaged the inner edge of my wheel. These wheels are unsellable and now I have to deal with black wheels having silver damage on them, there goes a $1000.00 on a simple job for a mechanic. Also I know many people who have gone to this shop and vehicle is fixed for a week or so next thing they are at the dealership after paying Matt for a unsuccessful job. BEWARE read more

We recently moved to Connecticut, and miss him dearly. Almaden Chevron is more than just a gas station.. It's a place a girl can take her car and get it repaired without being taken for a ride! Matt (owner/operator) is as good as they come. He's honest, reliable, and a really nice guy. He's not only saved me on more than one occasion, he's always there to help me and my family. From the simple oil change to electrical issues and massive tune ups that will keep my driving my car probably longer than I want too, but why buy new if it's not broken! He takes pride in work and it shows in his shop and the people that work for him. I highly recommend this service station for all your vehicle's needs.. I have been taking my Nissan Altima to them since 2007 and have received nothing but honest, top-notch service from Matt and the rest of their staff. I briefly tried another mechanic in 2009 when I moved to another neighborhood and found that they were trying to rip me off by both overcharging me and claiming I needed repairs that I didn't actually need. I ended up bringing my car back to Almaden Chevron where Matt quickly set me straight on what my car needed and didn't need. I moved back to the Almaden Valley in 2012 and am glad to have Matt nearby. read more

I have had many problems in the past finding a great mechanic. When my Z71 Tahoe broke down and the engine had to be replaced I located Matt's Chevron through Yelp. This was a great choice as it turns out. Matt and his team turned around my truck w/in 1 week. Total engine replacement w/a factory guarantee. We have never had a problem since. I would highly recommend this place as a solution for auto repair. I think Matt and his team are the best in the valley and would take my vehicle back to them in a second. Great customer service and pleasant to deal with. My lovely wife's car is attracted to nails and I've taken her car 3 times within a year and a half. It takes them less than 5 min to fix the flat tire! As a busy dad, I am so happy that I can take my car to a friendly place that I can trust with a fast service. The manager is rude and not responsible I got my car oil changed in almaden. After 2200 mile , the car maitennece light is on. So I brought the car to them, the manager looked the oil change label and told my car is due for oil change. Other feeling is that manger is quite rude to customers. read more

I can't even give this place a rating. Each time I've taken my car in, he flat out refuses to work on it. I take it somewhere else and it's piece of cake to those mechanics. I've given him three chances for the business and each time he treats me like an idiot. read more

I have had bad experiences, in the past, but am sure that new owners have taken over since. In the meantime, if you receive lousy service there, or quesionable service where you feel you were taken advantage of, or something happened where you had to take it somewhere else to get it done right, you have an option. Contact the State of California Bureau of Automotive Repair, which is located in San Jose (look under Government Agencies in the phone book) and lodge a complaint. This will get the owner in for a hearing. This is not a place they want to go to, since they could lose their license, or receive monetary santions for doing lousy work. It also puts the owner on notice that they need to tighten things up if they want to stay in business. Don't let them intimidate you. read more

Matt, the owner, is incredibly rude. I don't recommend that anyone supports people like him who don't value his customers. He acts like he can be a jerk to his customers because he believes he provides a type of service that no other mechanic will provide. That's simply not true. He overcharges you, the quality of work is poor, and he is incredibly rude to boot. The only thing I will say he does well is be a very hands-on owner. You'd think that would be a good thing, but with an abrasive personality like his, it's actually detrimental to his business. Like others who have posted their bad experiences, I agree that he purposely sets your car up to break down again, so that you have to come back and spend more money. If you need an alternative place to bring your car, there's a whole bunch on Winfield and Santa Teresa that do a great job. And while I know the economy is still rough, it may be worth peace of mind to just take your car to your dealership. It may cost more, but you know that no one knows your car better than them. STAY AWAY FROM MATT AND ALMADEN CHEVRON! BEWARE! read more

The auto repair shop here is great. I had a minor tyre issue (screw) and they repaired, swapped over, very friendly and honest. Other friends all raved about them so even tho my issue is minor, I came here because of 2 of my friends recommendation and they weren't wrong. I think they are moving to 5813 Winfield under name "Matt's Place". I'll be a return customer. read more
