They had the job done in under 20 minutes, which is impressive considering both the dealer and Quality Tune Up told me the same work would take at least 30 minutes, plus I'd have to leave my car for two hours. My go to spot. My gf and I have been coming to this shop for the past 5 years. Phong is a solid guy. He's honest and fair and he runs his shop the same way. He has more than once given me solid recommendations to help me know when I can get my work for free through warranty or recalls with the dealer unlike most other shops who take advantage of people for what they don't know. Not to mention this shop's pricing is super fair and they do quality work. I moved to north San Jose 3 years ago and I will still drive across town just to work with this shop because they deserve the business. And they are very accommodating because they want the business. And they work hard. So many times I've had to show up a little past closing to pick up my car due to my work schedule after they closed and they have been extremely flexible. Not only are they super patient but I've witnessed them on more than one occasion staying past closing time still working on cars to finish what they committed to despite getting busy and running behind on schedule. This is the first time that I have ever taken my truck to SM Auto and I must say that Phong is one of the most honest mechanics that I have ever met. After speaking with him about what I thought was a catalytic converter problem, he told me that I have an engine problem and that it would probably make more sense to get another truck vs. spending a lot on the necessary repairs. Sent my daughter to get smog on her car Wednesday was able to get in same day and sent her back the next day for my car again she was able to get both cars checked same day service! My family has been coming here for years and we are so grateful to have found a trusted mechanic. Before these guys, we had tried just about every mechanic along that strip, until one day everyone was telling us they couldn't help us. SM Auto told us they could help us that same day and at an extremely reasonable price. Really, these guys quote about 1/2 the price you would find elsewhere and do it quicker. They really are the hardest working and most honest mechanics in that strip. At this point, we've been coming here for so many year and they know my family so well that sometimes they won't even charge for small repairs or allow us to pay the next time we come in. This place awesome, they always fit me into their schedule. My girlfriend introduced me to this place, her family and her have been taking their cars here for a while now. They are reliable and do great work. I recently got my brakes changed here and they gave me a 2 hour time window on when it should be done and ended up finishing in a little over an hour. Called to schedule an oil change. Super easy to get one set up on my day off. I was told the oil change would take 30-40 minutes. I set a timer on my phone for 30 minutes to help me keep track of time and it was finished before my timer went off. Overall fast, efficient, and inexpensive. read more

I've been coming to this place for about 6 years or so and mainly for quick and easy smog checks. The biggest job I have gotten done is a full 200K mile tune up on an old Honda Odyssey. I dropped it off this week because of the engine light being on. After a couple of days of diagnosing the problem it turns out I need a new engine. The owner is very friendly and since I am a good customer of his he didn't want to charge me anything. I gave some cash anyway and thanked him. This is the kind of gesture that makes someone a customer for the long run. They are not out to screw anyone, they are honest and friendly. Came here about a month ago to do an oil change, they did it in under an hour. Usually I'd go the Infiniti dealer but they take almost all day to do a simple oil change. Was recommended this place by a good friend whose family has been coming here for years. They're efficient, friendly, honest, hardworking people. Not sure why on here it says the business is closed, I was worried when I saw this but drove over to the business to see if it really is closed. And the business is still up and running! These guys are life savers. I have taken my 2003 Audi TT in several times and where Steven Creek Audi could (did) not find what was wrong with my car, these guys found the issue in several minutes. I got a quote over the phone saying that it'd cost me $350 to repair the power steering hose leak. When we picked up my car, they only charged me $260 instead. I had been a customer of my prior mechanic shop for 2 years and i always felt they were pretty honest and reasonably priced. However, after a remodel of their front office i began to notice questionable behavior. MY PRIOR SHOP CHARGED ME FOR READING THE CHECK ENGINE CODE! Thus, i went around town looking for a place. I just happened to be visiting my friend and saw this place so just walked pass this mall that had 5 mechanic shops. I asked each shop why my check engine light would go on and asked what the P401 code could mean? Every shop confirmed yes... it has something to do with exhaust and wanted to charge me again for a diagnostic... BUT the price would get deducted from the service bill should i go with their shop. I told the SM Auto guys I had ENOUGH of this BULLSHIT and someone should have some knowledge. SM said they would take care of everything for only A QUARTER OF THE ESTIMATE that my ORIGINAL mechanic quoted me... YES... that's 25%!!! and although they said they couldn't guarantee that was the problem.... they were pretty certain because they have the experience. Since I haven't brought my car for any further service... i can't say to the quality of their service... but for me, the check engine light is gone! and i got it done at a cheap price.
