Wow, Kim's Tire saved us money, time, and a headache. We originally took our car to another tire shop, who said they couldn't repair the screw in the tire because it was a foam tire. They tried to sell us a brand new tire, which they would have to order and take days to install. This didn't feel right, so we called our trusty mechanic (Jacoby), who referred us to Kim's Tire to get a second opinion. They were able to repair the tire in a couple of hours and charged us $25. They also used a plug instead of a patch because they said it's not a foam but epoxy. We will definitely be repeat customers! read more

As long as I live in the Bay Area I will never go anywhere else for automotive services. Today was my second time coming to James' shop and they were just as professional and expedient as last time. I got an oil and transmission fluid change; and brake fluid flush. It took around three hours but, the shop was packed (rightfully so) when I got there so I was expecting it to take much longer. And of course James' shops exceeded my expectations. The pricing was extremely fair too. James is an honest man who runs an honest shop. All in all, I ended up paying around $530 which is the average price, so no dishonest up-charges. 10/10 would recommend for anyone looking to take care of their car. I stopped by Kim's Tires and Automotive Shop today, which is conveniently near my home. It came highly recommended by a nearby business I frequent for oil changes, and they specifically mentioned that Kim's is one of the most reliable, honest, and trustworthy mechanics they know in the area. I originally came in because I had a flat tire and needed a replacement, but I also had a broken lug nut stud from changing to my spare. While asking around for price quotes, I got a range of estimates, but some didn't seem experienced enough to handle the issue properly. The problem started when Costco installed my tires--they had over-tightened the lug nuts, causing the nuts to become stuck and forcing the studs to be broken off to change a tire. Lesson learned about shopping for deals when the mechanics aren't always familiar with your car brand. When I brought my car in, James discovered that not only was the lug nut stud on my flat tire damaged, but another one on my front tire studs was stuck as well. Since my car has all-wheel drive, it's generally recommended to replace all four tires at once, which was an unexpected expense. However, James gave me a very fair price on new tires and was upfront about the labor costs. What impressed me most was that he initially quoted me a specific timeframe for each repair, but he actually got both jobs done in half the time--without any extra charges. I came in the late morning, and by the afternoon, everything was completed as promised. I'm very satisfied with their service and highly recommend them. I came in to get a price for a tire. The guy told me to hold on which I did. He proceeded to use a leaf blower around the garage for almost 10 mins. I'm sitting in the lobby then he pops back in and asks me if I have an appointment. I told him again that I needed a price for a tire. He tells me to hold on again then doesn't come back. They gave me an accurate wait time for a walk-in (around 60-90 minutes), and I was actually done in about 45 minutes. They inspected the tire thoroughly and fixed the puncture for a flat rate -- no hidden costs or unnecessary upselling. Called yesterday because I was having an alignment issue on my car. I hit a pothole or something on the road, and it made my car pull to the right and I felt like something was wrong with my tire. James recommended to make an appointment, but he could tell I desperately needed this fixed and said if I drop it off at 8:30a when they open, they would get to it that day. James and his team quickly saw the issue, got the tires I needed ordered, did the alignment and now my car is driving great. The price he charged for all this was very fair and reasonably. Had a screw in my rear tire a little over an inch from the sidewall so needed a patch, not plug. The 2 other tire places I visited wanted me to drop the car off where Kim's took care of it on the spot and did a great job. And, while waiting a young guy came in and asked how much to repair a tire and he was told they only do patches and it's $35. The guy asked if that included balancing or alignment . Assuming he either isn't from the Bay Area, doesn't know the difference between a plug and patch or both. read more

I unexpectedly got a flat on the way out of San Jose with a 3 inch sheet metal plate..... and luckily came across Kim's just 400 feet away. Knowing I will be on the freeway, wasn't going to take my chances for a blowout to my regular place. James was able to accommodate before closing. Had his crew check out the tire and was able to come to a reasonable price to patch the tire from the inside! After 25 mins waiting for 2 cars ahead of me, they got my car in and out. My low tire pressure light can on and panicked when I saw something metalic between my treads, assuming it was a tire puncture from a nail or screw. I brought my car to Kim's Tire to have my tire repaired but they told me the metal object had not penetrated the tire and the problem was only low pressure. They brought the air pressure up to the proper level on all tires at no charge, correcting the problem. The recent rains in the Bay area caused a lot of pot holes on the streets. I was getting ready to drive when I noticed the TPMS light on my car's dashboard. One of the rear tires was showing considerably low PSI. I looked up Yelp for tire shops near my location, and Kim's place popped up. They have great reviews so I gave them a call. James picked up the phone and said he would be able to help us the same day. I immediately drove to the shop where he was able to get me 4-5 quotes. He was not pushy and helped select the best option for my car. He didnt have the tires at the moment but promised to get them within a few hours. And sure enough, I got a call after 2 hours that my car was ready. James also mentioned that I could setup a free tire rotation appointment after 7000 miles. I have always been going to Costco for all tire related work, but the wait times and the delays due to the volume they deal with was a pain. So based on other great Yelp ratings, I decided to give this place a shot and I was not disappointed. Quick, professional, and attention to detail and pricing is similar (in fact could be cheaper). Got a flat tire and came in to get it checked out. James clearly explained why it could not be repaired and would need to replace the tires. He did not try to upsell me on replacing all 4 tires and showed me options ranging from cheap to expensive and did not pressure me but gave his recommendations. Since he did not have the tire in stock, he ordered it to be delivered the next day and the whole experience worked exactly as per schedule. Also got free tire rotation included along with the new tires. One of the service technicians messed up by putting in the new tires on the front wheels when James had instructed him not to, however, James got it fixed and I appreciated the patience with which he coached the technician. I always worry about being up charged, but James was very professional and printed out all my options for tires and prices ranging from cheapest to most expensive. The wait times were all reasonable too. If you needed to order a tire, it could be same day with 2-3 hours for delivery of the tire. Went a couple of times, once to patch a tire tire another time to do alignment. I didn't even feel the need to ask for the cost ahead of time, felt like he won't rip me off like some other places, and I was right. Great guy, responsive, good communication. On time appointment, accurate service time estimation. Fair prices, honest assessment of what I may need. For the tire patch service he clearly explained the possibilities (patch from outside vs inside) and took photos of the inside of the tires. When I came for the alignment, one of the tires was low on air, potentially due to a puncture in the tire as happened with the other car. I mentioned it, and he asked when I installed it, then recommended me to just take it back to where I installed it to have it checked out and fixed for free if necessary since it was a new install within warranty period time.
