Their drinks are the worst on the planet. They give you bottom shelf nail polish remover when you ask for vodka. The bouncers don't know what they are doing and couldn't tell the difference between a fake ID and a real one. Be prepared to have your real ID checked by the cops. Oh, and if you are a college student say goodbye to good service. The one singular good thing is the live music but if you don't know how to swing dance, be prepared to get kicked out. read more

There is a lot to like about Matt's Saloon! After hitting most bars on Whiskey Row, we finally stepped into Matt's on a Tuesday night. This wasn't your average Tuesday night though, with the rodeo in town Matt's was rocking around 9:30pm. Friendly bartenders, tons of space, a lively dance floor, solid beer and liqour selection, and decent live music-this place has it all. Booze was reasonable priced, but bring cash as they do not take cards. I was very impressed with the efficiency of the bartenders, since they are working in cash and dealing with each transaction rather than a simple, "keep it open?" It's an old building, and no frills atmosphere. If you are cool with simple, fun, entertainment with a local country feel, Matt's is the spot. read more

Ok.......best western bar in Prescott!!!! It gets packed so if you actually want a place to sit you need to get there early. They have live music, and I can not think of a time that I have been there were the band sucked. Plus they have PBR is cans so if you wanted to, you could drink for cheap. I don't want to write to much about how awesome this place is because the more people that show up their the earlier I have to get there. We came on a Monday, so we didn't expect it to be busy. We were actually looking for a nice laid back place. The service, however, was terrible! The bar tender seemed annoyed with us when we walked in. Then when we tried paying she continually walked by for 10 minutes until I asked for change. She looked at our money every time she walked by, but was busy chatting with the regulars and checking her phone. read more

I have always had a great time at this bar, I come back into town for a concert. We go to this bar and the doormen and bouncers are the rudest people I've ever met. My friends and I have never been so mistreated in my life. I have been coming to whiskey row for years and will never come back to this bar again! The owner should really look into such extremely outrageously awful behavior. To be such an attraction for Prescott, it is surprising that any owner would allow a bouncer treat customers this way. read more

For the real "Whiskey Row" experience, and a few ice cold longnecks, Matt's Saloon is the place. You'll find some genuine cowboys and genuinely cute cowgirls. The Bar has a history, as do most of it's patrons, and with the help of a few cocktail you might get a good tail (oops....tale ) or two. Amador, a fixture on Whiskey Row, has been behind the bar for more than ten years and knows how to serve a great drink quickly, even when the bar is three deep with Rodeo fans. Matt & Marco, who are surprisingly young to have made such a success out of this "Landmark", are friendly and mingle through the crowd on a good night. And Marco's family recipe tamales are the real thing.....but are only seen around the holidays. The staff is professional and handle the random punch or shove with a show of force that quickly moves out to the sidewalk. Say "hey" to Jessica if you get the chance....she the one in the black cowboy hat, and watch for some great bands that tour the area and stop at Matt's for some real music, both kinds...Country AND Western. Thursday is dollar beer night and the crowd loves hip-hop, so leave your hats at the door unless you wear it backwards. read more

Hmmmm..... how to describe Matt's Saloon. How about WEIRD? I was in Prescott for a conference, and a large group of us decided to go to Matt's. You have to pay a cover charge to get in, but the drinks are cheap ($1.00 domestic draft bottles). Sweet. But the crowd and the music, WEIRD, and I mean WEIRD!! All they played was hip-hop music (which sucks) and got to watch very weird women. One was 2 feet high. Most were ugly, and it seemed most wanted to make out with each other. Thank God I was with some beautiful women, otherwise I'd would have been out of there. Maybe I hit Matt's on an off night, or maybe the the crowd decided to leave their houses located in abandoned mine shafts and try to rejoin the human race. If you are into fat women with lot's of jailhouse tats, Matt's is the place for you. Enjoy! read more

I have never seen more over served patrons in any establishment....people were falling down drunk everywhere you looked, not to mention there appeared to be several underage attendees, (carding in Prescott is apparently only a suggestion.). How they still have a liquor license seems very suspect. I vote this bar 'most likely to get puked on by a completely over served drunk.' read more

Super fun on Saturdays. The band is great! Dancing, Dancing, Dancing!! Beers are decently priced and they allow dogs.

There is a $5 cover and they have overpriced drinks. $6.50 for a shot and $7.50 for crown and coke. They kick too many people out in a night, they get you super drunk but then try to kick you out for being super drunk. They aren't very responsible. They're are always too many people there and hot as hell. read more

We were there pretty early so I didn't experience the crowds or cover charge that the other reviewers complained about. But I did get to see some cowboys and cowgirls two-steppin' out on the dance floor. We went with a group and everyone had a good time. Matt's was our first stop on our Whisky Row Pub Crawl. Good service, cheap drinks and good live music make for a great night. One of the best features was the outdoor smoking area with propane heaters - made 30 degrees a little more pleasant. If we hadn't been trying to hit up lot's of places, I would have loved to stay and gotten a little dancing in. They are on my list of must try again for my next Prescott trip. read more

I'm pretty amazed. I love horse racing. I can watch AND place bets at Matt's Saloon! I was hankering to watch The Kentucky Derby...Yavapai downs is closed for now, so this was the next best, without being at Churchill Downs of course. back a long time ago, the owner of this bar really had no clue what she and her husband were doing. a great bar, with NO ONE in there. the bar had been fashioned out of a giant piece of wood, that was not cured, so when it finally settled in? no drink would stand on the bar, they would all slide off and onto the floor. hilarious. other moments with ghosts that would make an unbeliever run for the hills. these days? PACKED and some of those same folks still work there bartender wise, and are friendly and beyond. a new bar that lets your drink live, and a rockin dance floor with couples packed in dancing the two step. flags adorn the place, and the busy bustling days of past have returned. so glad you got real owners, and so glad your making money. this is a wonderful country and western bar, with a fabulous dance floor. read more

I clearly didn't know the secret password. Never been to Matt's but I live in Prescott and like CW music so my wife and I walked in @ 7:15 on a Sat night. The bar was lively but not crowded, no band yet, so we sat down at 2 empty seats at the end of the bar, I pulled out a $20 and looked expectantly at the black cowboy hat attired bartender. He walked over and gave the guy next to me another Bud light and then walked away. It wasn't that he was called away, he was doing nothing other than watching the football game. I looked at the guy next to me. We're in the same demographic, it's clearly not a gay bar, we weren't drunk, and were dressed like everyone else. After a few more minutes of being ignored, I decided against shouting "hey bartender" and left. I've seen busy bartenders, bad bartenders, drunk bartenders, bartenders trying to get a phone number, but I've never seen a bartender doing nothing not come over to two people sitting at his bar and try to sell them a drink. I always enjoy stopping into Matt's for a drink or 2 when I am in Prescott. Prices are fair and the place is usually packed on the weekends. I enjoy the variety of live music. Also best place to get your "hair of the dog" at 11 am. :) read more

Best things about this joint: beers are cold and they allow dogs. It was fun to people watch and check out the historical photos and such. We were there in the afternoon, so it was pretty mellow. Will definitely head back when we're in that area again. read more

Great country bar for dancing! I would definitely go there again. Mixed crowd, typical of a country place. Lots of bachelorette parties and a good amount of dirty old men cowboys that know how to two-step! Good size crowd but not over crowded. Great place to go have fun with a group. read more

We stopped in after a great meal at Papa's Italian Restaurant. I was the DD so I only had half a drink., jack and coke-pretty uninspired. Tried to get a cabernet for the Princess and they only had a merlot and she said it was horrible. What did I expect? This is a cowboy bar. This place is really cool. We were here for our anniversary and had a blast. Fun to watch everyone dance, band was amazing. Beer was very cold. Solid 3.5 stars. This would be a 5 star but the problem was the fights that broke out while we were there, the bar tenders were not friendly and they are a cash only bar. With that said, we will be back. read more

We always seem to be there in the early afternoon. We have always met friendly and usually interesting locals.

I've been a here a couple of times and always have a good time. The drinks are quick and the music is country...most of the time. I heard Thursday night is college night with a cover and drink specials, country music til 10 then hip hop dj after. We went on a Friday night and a live band was playing country starting at 8:30. They played some newer stuff and some classic older stuff. We did some good country dancing if you're into that. Don't expect much more. It's a good time country bar! read more

Stopped in this place the other night on our honey moon. Band playing was great. The atmosphere was so much fun. The bartender Taylor is very friendly and fun to converse with. We met quite a few people here and everyone was friendly. Nice dance floor. Great drinks. Highly recommend this place if your looking for night life on the weekend. read more
