A funny, divey little spot with a very good beer list including a Hefeweizen which I always appreciate. (It took a while to replace the European keg for me but they got it done in the end!) The temptation was to eat and have a beer at Bittersweet after a early day of snowboarding. After getting fed up with the lack of service I left. The 2nd best decision of the day for me following going snowboarding. Wow very nice surprise of quality and service. Kudos to Noel. She's a great personable and helpful server. Food was outstanding. We visited Maude's looking for a quick bite and maybe a couple of beers. We found quite a bit more, for sure! The menu had a a section dedicated to options for Loaded Tots, so we ordered the McFranken Tots which including chicken, bacon, Mac 'N Cheese and cheese. They were fantastic and it was a huge half portion! We want to try the Poutine Tots next time! We also tried the 'Balls' appetizer from the Bar Bites menu which includes two of each of the following balls... mashed potato, cheese, Bacon, and a beef meatball served with siracha, Frank's & chutney aioli sauces - we preferred the Frank's and siracha and used them with the tots. The last food item were the Rueben Nachos that had a healthy portion of corned beef, swiss cheese and horsy sauce and a bit of sauerkraut. Again only a half order. Thanks to Stacy for hinting to us that we could order the Bar Bites as a half order which was a great way to explore the menu and same a little cash. We will be back! Maude's is awesome for many reasons. It's unassuming exterior houses a nice welcoming interior with THE best balls I've ever had. Yes, I said balls. It's one of their favorite appetizer menu items. 8 balls of fried yumminess. Comes with 3 separate savory dips. They also have an extensive beer menu. Did I mention that they have tots as an option for a side? Yes they do. Also their bulldog mascot on all their merchandise is adorable. We come here often when in town. read more

This was a really good place with really good food and a great list of beers and ciders. I did get a caramel apple hard cider which was really good. I also got a Reuben which was a little greasy, but amazingly flavorful. The brisket tots were great, my husband's burger was huge, albeit a little dry and it didn't reheat well at all. My son liked his chicken strips a lot. There are a lot of pretty stellar places to eat in the Plainwell/Otsego area, this is absolutely one of them. Shout out to our amazing server, Lacey! three of us went for dinner and all 3 ordered hamburgers. after our dinner arrived we each had a couple of bites and looked at each other and all said, this is the worst burger I've ever had. one of us pointed out that the burger tasted like the meat was old. none of us had any more and brought it home for our dog. the only positive was that the pretzel bites were pretty good. read more

I really wanted to give a better review because there was a lot of potential! The waitstaff was friendly and attentive. When the cider I asked for wasn't available she had another option readily available. The items on the menu all sounded quite tasty. The burger was tasty but the sweet potato fries were overcooked. The Cuban sandwich was huge and very good. The regular fries were perfect. The children's menu has very small portions. Great for children under 10 but we weren't notified of the portion size and my 12 year old was left hungry. Her baked mac and cheese was overcooked and the side fruit cup was canned fruit cocktail. We stopped here on a trip up to Michigan. While the atmosphere was nice, a little noisy but no more than expected being a taphouse and the staff was friendly we were sadly not very impressed with our food. We ordered several appetizers and were excited about the selection but the execution left us wanting more. The pretzel bites were overdone and were quite possibly the same as the frozen ones you can get at the store. The breading on the portabella fries had nice flavor and was crunchy reminiscent of fair batter but the ratio of batter to mushroom was overpowering. The on tap beer and cider selection was nice and varied. Would possibly return for a drink but wouldn't be a place we would order food again. read more

We had this as carry out on 12-12-20. Most other places in the area were closed, I'm not sure if that's a local thing or the Covid Crap but we were thankful to see Maude's was open. I thought this was a pretty nice meal, they have several unique items which I always enjoy. The food quantity is on the mark considering the price point. I definitely recommend the Reuben and the burgers. Give it a shot. read more

We've been to Maude's half a dozen,at least, times since they opened and it just keeps getting better. We've never been disappointed in their food. They have a way of changing everything up just enough to make it different but not so different that it loses its identity. This is my 4th time visiting this restaurant. The service is very good. My last 3 visits Kamryn has waited on us. Tonight my daughter wanted to know what Italian wedding soup was. Kamryn brought out a sample for her. Kamryn is a customers waitress and very appreciated. Tonight i ordered the smokes brisket sandwich. It was very flavorful and great. I've had dry jerky brisket elsewhere but this was really good. We liked the atmosphere too, but we did get here a little early and beat the dinner rush. This place is great! The decor and atmosphere are like something you'd see in a big city, but still has that local feel. We started with the beer battered portobello mushrooms (amazing - be sure to get ranch AND mustard and mix them). My husband ordered their Reuben, which was super tasty, lots of flavor, with onion rings, also great! The best part was my meal, which was Maude's pulled pork sandwich. The flavor in this sandwich is hard to describe, but it was amazing. I tend to order pulled pork anywhere that it's starred on a menu, and a lot of places over flavor their bbq sauce (if that makes sense) and it's just too much. This sandwich was understated but smoky and still flavorful. Great beer selection too! We went an hour before a movie at M-89 on a Friday night and were out in plenty of time. Service was excellent, even though the waitress wouldn't offer recommendations off the food menu. Huge variety of drinks - my bf ordered a sour beer that is a new fave for both of us. I got a tropical mojito that came in a pint glass for $6. It was delicious and packed a punch. Impressed for that price! Food is hit or miss. We had some things we wanted, but opted for items that we'd never had before. That was a mistake as what we received was a little disappointing. The balls: why do restaurants do this? Stop naming things like this. If you're going to have a hee haw about making people say balls, they should be good. There were a bunch of different kinds with 3 dipping sauces. The waitress didn't tell us which were which. They all tasted different but there were a few that we couldn't tell what they were supposed to be. They just tasted like fried dough with something indistinguishable inside. Whatever the white sauce was should be bottled. It was delicious but again, couldn't tell what it actually was made of. Pizza: don't get the pizza. Sauce tasted like water, crust was bland. Got one with pepperoni and banana peppers and the toppings were ok but not evenly distributed. Guinness beef: this was pretty ok. Not a ton of flavor, but the meat was tender and not dry. Came open faced on top of both sides of a soaked onion roll. Fries were good. We'll give it a other try and get what we originally were going to (Cuban sandwich, po boy, and tots). The drinks alone are worth it. read more

It looks really nice when you walk in and seat yourself. The server was nice as our and very attentive, great service. It makes me hate to write this. I love bar food. I try them out and foods always awesome. Not here. It is humdrum at best. Not a big fan. None of us liked the taste of the foods. I love burgers, and this was just not good. I don't want to say horrible, but it was just not good. Like flavorless. No one seemed to care about what they ordered. We headed home and it hit us, a fight to the bathrooms. I'm still sick to my stomach this morning from it. We all had cheese sticks and French fries. I will go back and try it again in a month. I don't like writing bad reviews. Everything else in the place I loved. I love the old ads on the wall, the employees and the service. Just not the good. I'm sorry I'm writing this. Went here for the NYE dinner/comedy show and it was very well done. The service was fantastic as well as the 4 course meal which was absolutely delicious. After dinner we headed over to liquid note (adjacent to Maudes) and heard some great stand up comedy acts that made as all laugh. Overall a great way to ring in the new year! For $50 a head you couldn't beat the price for the quality of food and impeccable service. Looking forward to next year! read more

I was greeted as soon as I walked into the door. The restaurant wasn't very busy but I was able to sit out on the patio. The beer was good and the food was fast and fresh! I have the fried pickle spears and they were amazing. For entree, I had the Reuben with sweet potato fries. My waitress was amazing despite the conditions! This place was fantastic. When we first got to the restaurant, there seemed to be an issue with their cash register system, but they still seated us. We were a little leary, but we were extremely happy with how good the food was. I believe it was the owner (could be wrong) who seated us. Whoever he was, he was very friendly. We first ordered the pretzel appetizers with beer cheese dip (we skipped the mustard). They weren't exactly what we were expecting, as they were more like breadsticks than pretzels, but they were still very good. The bread was very soft with just the right amount of salt. The cheese dip was flavorful and we had extra left because they provided more than enough. Then my hubby ordered the Hawaiian pulled pork and I got the fish and chips. The pulled pork had a very good tangy BBQ sauce topped with a healthy dose of slaw and pineapple. The fish sticks were just huge. I think I got two and I could only eat one. The breading was a nice light, but crispy brown batter. The insides contained a massive amount of tasty fish. The fries on the side were thick cut flavorful fries. I also tried Founders Rubeaus which was a raspberry beer. It was really good. The prices weren't too expensive and the portions were huge. I would definitely go back when in the area again. It was pretty early, so the restaurant was not very crowded at all and kind of quiet. (plus it was a Monday night). read more

Both the Waitress and cook ignored my friend and I the whole time. We came at lunch time today and it was only us and a guy at the bar for a short time. We tried flagging the waitress down at least five times, to no avail. I even waved my flash light to get attention. The cook saw and did nothing. Food was awful. I ask for the impossible burger which was marketed all over.. they haven't had it for 2 years. The waitress recommended their other veggie burger that she said was just like the impossible. However, it came raw on the inside. The appetizer came out moments before the food. If this restaurant empty and you can't even serve your customers I can imagine it being busy. A cook also swore in front of my friend and I. So much for "family friendly." read more

Went there twice over the weekend. The tap beer selection is ridiculous, they have soooo much beer!! You can get flights of tasters which is fun so you can try new beers. The fist time we sat at the bar, just had beers, and got great service from the bartender. Second time we came back and sat at a table with a party of 5. We got horrible service. We had to wait for water refills, she was slow, forgot a couple beers, never cleared our plates. We thought they were under staffed but then we saw her several times standing at the end of bar acting like she had nothing to do when our table was full of dirty plates. The food really wasn't that good either - I ordered the chicken salad and the chicken was totally charred and burnt. My husband got the fish sandwich and there was a lot of bread and a really small piece of fish - good flavor but not much there. Then someone ordered an Oberon and it was not Oberon... Anyone who drinks Oberon knows what it looks like in a pint glass and it was as clear as miller lite. He took it to the bartender and the bartender tried to tell him it really was Oberon... Which it clearly was not. Then sometime later a different guy came over with a real Oberon and said there must have been something wrong with the keg, but really I'm guessing they had the lines confused or something. With that many taps it has to happen at some point. We're happy that they made it right but the bartender should have caught that before they served it. Go for the beers, sit at the bar. With our 2 experiences it's hard to know what to expect next time. read more
