This is our second stay in town. The hotel is older but conveniently located. The best part is Minnie at the front desk. She is kind, considerate, always willing to help or answer any questions and very good at her job. It is really nice to be welcomed and taken care of by Minnie. Better off going to a regular quality inn for the barely the same experience. You have to request for your room to get refreshed/more towels. Laundry is a joke don't bother planning on that account. No pool - they share with neighboring property but make sure you turn in your towel or you'll get charged. For the breakfast it was just fine nothing amazing. read more

I feel like I got catfished with this hotel. Online the pictures look so great, then you show up and it's nothing like it. Pool was down during my visit, and the beach right there is a no swim zone because of all the rocks. The hotel looks old and smells old. There's a lot of considerations when it comes to Maui! A majority of hotels are pricy, and I think for a "budget" hotel it gets the job done. Setting: Right on the beachside, it's a 12 minute walk from Foodland and a shopping mall. The pool was cold, but it was clean and there were other patrons utilizing it as well. Service: The ladies who checked us in and out were fast, kind, and efficient. We also rented a board game to play. Room: Our room itself was clean, properly stocked with towels and toiletries. I will give a pros and cons list. CONS: - Roach infestation. If you are okay with sleeping in a hotel room and as soon as you have to go to the bathroom you encounter a roach then this hotel is perfect for you. I understand it is hawaii and we are bound to come into contact with a roach but this seems more like an infestation. They are a lot of little baby roaches. When I spoke to the front desk they were dismissive about the situation. I wish they could have at least provided raid to kill them, but when I asked if there was a solution to the situation or if we are supposed to expect roaches he told me "It hawaii" yes I am supposed to expect it. So if you are okay with roaches then this is a good spot. So Far in the two nights I have stayed, we have encountered at least 5 roaches and more to come . - HAIR. When the cleaning ladies came to restock our wash cloths and towels there was a large wad of black hair on the new wash cloth. I think that is disgusting considering that is someone else's hair and it was very visible so why not use a different wash cloth?? PROS: - Close access to beach. There is a small beach right behind the hotel. It is very beautiful and secluded. -Outside area is nice. Clean, nice, and vintage hotel. This place is on the beach. Wonderful just wonderful. Free shuttle service to and from hotel to the airport. Shorts walks close by to eateries, Whole Foods, Long's drug store. They have a great breakfast buffet, clean pool, and excellent fitness room with dumbbells, cardio machines, and kettlebells (this is rarely offered in hotel gyms). They even have a worship service in one of the 2nd floor rooms. Friendly staff - front desk, house keeping, security personnel, and shuttle driver. No place is perfect, but this place is worth another visit in the future. I love it! read more

I was looking forward to having breakfast in the hotel but when i got there there was a sign that stated closed for renovations. After traveling and needing rest and wanting a decent meal, i was disappointed that no one told me when i checked in. It just would have been nice to know. Best way to describe this place is its very mediocre. The rooms are clean, however our room had a stench to it. Didn't smell perfectly clean. The lobby is nice. Has some nice sofas and a pool table which semi works, the sticks were broken. The rooms are just OK. In my opinion, the price is a bit high for what it is. I would say its a 3 star hotel. My first room had cockroaches. On reporting at check-in, the concierge person didn't seem surprised but replaced my room. On speaking to the manager next morning - same experience in terms of zero acknowledgement of the roaches or remorse of correcting it. It was not a cheap place so it was very unnerving and unpleasant to experience that at that cost. The timing of my trip was such that I needed to use the laundry at this place, the machines were also dirty and not well maintained. Additional exorbitant resort fees and parking fees for that lack of hygiene and cleanliness really made it even more disappointing. Decent enough. Just wanted a quick and easy spring break get away. Hawaii is a short enough flight from California. Maui is one of the islands I hadn't been to and wanted to check out. I always thought of it as the "expensive" island so never really considered it. After another vacation plan fell through I looked on a whim and was blown away at the affordable flights and accommodations. I originally looked at another property on the other side of the island but ultimately decided Maui Beach Hotel would be the best choice. Why? Let me tell you 1. "Free" airport shuttle (quoted bc there's a $20ish day resort fee) 2. Bar / restaurant onsite 3. Beach access 4. Walkability to shops and other dining 5. Car rental on property While all of this is true, plus they had board games, coin op laundry, fitness center (never saw but I believe it's there somewhere) lots of lounge around options, pool table, corn hole, bocce ball, and a water filler. And it indeed has beach access. Beach area is located in the harbor so our ocean view room gazed upon a dredge barge the whole time, saw a few cruise ships in and out. But the cove made the swimming or splashing feel a little safer. Had I known i would have booked a garden balcony instead of the ocean view room and gotten the same view WITH a balcony. But the ocean view was indeed that (see gecko photo with barge in background) Walkable was a huge plus. A small mall with a basic mall stores (Macy's as the anchor, Claires, famous footwear, etc) and foodland behind it on one side and a shopping center with a longs drug store and Whole Foods, etc on the other side. Every morning we walked the length of the beach to the road and grabbed coffee at a cute local spot (momona- totally recommend) and then spent most of the day lounging at the pool, beach, grass area or walking to and from various spots. Totally relaxing and I guess the whole point of an island vacation. I got a TON of steps in. (This part of the Island is apparently known to be VERRRRY WINDY. So I never got sweaty or overheated while walking) Another plus, hertz rental is also on site. I rented a car one day, prices were same as airport and we went out, saw what we wanted and then dropped it back off same day (they do charge for parking so one day was ideal) Cons: Restaurant had weird hours. My dream of sipping cocktails at the pool or gazing out in the ocean never came to be. I could have bought my own booze at any number of stores but that wasn't going to feel the same. We also made the mistake and paid the huge price tag for Easter brunch which was a sad selection of sad looking food. $60pp. I would have felt a lot better if they maybe only charged $35. But that was my fault, it wasn't like I prepaid and was held hostage. Pool: water was Freeezing. And since the wind kept it from ever feeling too hot outside, a cool dip was never appealing. Room: room was clean as it could be. Dated, but I absolutely expected it to be. I love vintage Hawaii. I'm not one for fancy resorts and can handle basic accommodations. It was all good until we started finding roaches. We only found a few in the bathroom but that was enough for us. We got roach spray at longs drugs and sprayed every inch if the room every day we were there. Not taking any changes I also rewashed all my clothes and left my luggage in the back yard for a day just to be sure. I know tropical places and islands have their share of pest issues so I try not to fault them for it, but id really rather not have seen them. Beach: already explained the harbor location which was find as it was like a little swim inlet. Sand and water what really else do you need? Only ding was the transient sitch. I know the hotel Cannot control who's on a public beach but it seemed to be a mini throughout-fair. Much farther down the shore is a public park and there was a lot of tents when we drove by so im sure that's home base. I stumbled apon two dudes smoking crack on the beach right by the hotel during one of My dusk time walks home from the store. After that I was a little more cautious on how far I let my almost teenage daughter wander around the grounds. I'd say all in all, you get what you pay for. But this property wasn't what I'd consider cheap. Maybe for this island. Would I stay here again? Highly doubtful. But, did it ruin my vacation. NOPE. read more

Our group reserved 5 rooms, 2 of the rooms weren't even ready by 3pm check-in so that messed up our afternoon schedule. When you check-in, make sure you ask for a room far away from the meeting rooms. I had to suffer all night in my room which was right next to a meeting room where a large group was having a party until 10pm. And then after that I had to listen to loud music and base from their "club" where they have old school music playing until 1am. When I asked to be moved because it was too noisy they said there was nothing available! Terrible experience. read more

Booked this hotel because we needed something close to the airport as we had a fourteen hour overnight layover on the island and it offered an airport shuttle which was the main selling point in booking it. However, upon arrival at 9 pm (the shuttle is advertised and promised to run till 10 pm) I called to have the shuttle pick us up from the airport and we were told 15 minutes they would be there (it's a ten minute drive from hotel to airport). After 30 minutes of waiting we called again and they said they left 10 minutes ago and would be there in 10 minutes. After over an hour of standing outside in the dark, we were told the shuttle is not coming because there was "too much traffic." Not only did the hotel lie to us repeatedly but they made us wait outside and then canceled for no good reason as there was no traffic when we finally paid for an overpriced taxi to get the hotel. If a hotel is going to advertise promised shuttle service then shuttle service should be provided!! The next morning we decided to try to the shuttle again to get back to the airport for our connecting flight to another island. We asked the front desk at around 8 am and she said that shuttles only run every hour and the rest of the shuttles were full until noon (our flight was at noon). Once again if a hotel is going to advertise shuttle service they would advertise it without any misrepresentations, but here it was very clearly misrepresented how available or reliable the shuttle will be. The price of this hotel was mainly justified for me for the shuttle. However we will never stay here again after the utter failure and disappointment that we have experienced. IF YOU WANT TO STAY HERE FOR THE SHUTTLE I WOULD ADVISE NOT TO. I hope management can respond to my inquiries to manage expectations and to remedy the situation we faced. read more

We came here on a whim because it was close to our car rental location. We paid over $200 for a one night stay with no ocean view. -pros: the location is a short walk to the beach. There are games outside such as cornhole. There are hammocks, gazebo and chairs to relax in. There is a cocktail lounge upstairs (however we were not told this we just happened to find it). There a pool inside to play and other chairs to hang out. They give you water bottles for water. -cons: the room wasn't the cleanest. It was extremely hot and we had to turn on the ac and leave the room for an hour until room cooled down so we could breathe. There was tons of trash on the beach. There was a homeless man half naked (bottoms). There's no breakfast. They charge is $10 for gas. Overall I do not feel like this place is worth the price. read more

I remember when I was young, dumb, and broke (early 20's) but never wanted FOMO. So I'd go somewhere and stay in the cheapest hotel, without a care about if it was dirty or dingy. To me, it was just a place to sleep and shower and who cares if the hotel was disgusting. Maui Beach Hotel is exactly that. A cheap, dirty, and dingy hotel. We had a layover in Maui before heading back home and this place was the "cheapest", decent hotel we could find. Cheap meaning $350+ for one night. On the way to our room, you can see stains on the hallway carpets and particularly, a large, dried up, vomit stain in front of one of the rooms. Our room smelled like mold and was so musty. We could feel the dirty air just clinging to our clothes and body. Before we arrived, the kids and I were starving; however, when we got to our room, we were so turned off that our hunger diminished. Everything was old (the beds, furniture), the bathroom was outdated, the fridge was under the bathroom sink (I could go on). There were guys talking and yelling loudly in the hallway and the people in the room above us were constantly stomping their feet. We could literally hear the people upstairs running down to the first floor causing a ruckus, messing around, or what I assumed were wrestling. The only nice thing in the room was the air conditioner cause you can control it with a remote. We put our sweaters on and slept over the covers, not under, as I just DID NOT trust its cleanliness. By early morning at 7AM, we bolted out of there and never looked back. read more

The Maui beach hotel is fine. The Midwesterner in me balks at the price per night compared to what you're actually getting, but the hotel is fine. I stopped over here for a quick in and out work trip on Maui and we were looking for a nice enough hotel near the airport and the commercial district for our work. The price points seemed to be $300, $600, $900, and HOLY WOW, so we went with $300/night, plus my friend's "local's discount." The property is dated, as in, there is an actual window AC unit in the rooms. They've made some attempts at upgrades and updates, like the multiport charging stations in the rooms, the cute little coconut weather station out back, and the really gorgeous orchids in the lobby that I am pretty sure are real. There is a small beach, that is more for sitting and enjoying the breeze than for swimming, but I'm sure if you wanted to, you could enjoy it. I have yet to determine if the grass in the back is real or fake - could go either way. The in room toiletries are nice, and I'm a sucker for shampoo in little bottles and things that smell like green tea. The property is about half a mile from Whole Foods for snacks -- rooms have a mini fridge, but no microwave. If I come back here for work, I wouldn't refuse to stay here again, or, like others said, if you have a lot of activities lined up and aren't going to spend a lot of time in your room anyway. read more

First of all, I'd like to start with the positives. The front desk employees are very nice and helpful. The room rates are somewhat affordable for Maui's high prices. But this is where it all ends. I checked in and received a simple room. Nothing fancy but just a room with a bed and bath. I was fine with that but the tv didn't work. So I went to the front desk to change rooms. The tv worked and I turned on the ac. I settled down for the evening and tried to get some sleep. The ac knocked off and I had to turn it on again. It was blowing but it didn't get cold. At this point I wasn't about to pack up all of stuff and tried to sleep. But the noise from the road and the hot room made it very hard to fall asleep. I tossed and turned all night until I had to get up at 5 am. I was exhausted and had a tough day. I have stayed at the Maui Beach many times during the past 50 years and I swear that it looks like the hotel was stuck in time. I made a complaint to the survey and only received a computer generated apology with no signature from the manager. This really gave me negative vibes because it was very non personal. In the end, I will never stay at this hotel again and will pay more for a more modern hotel even though it's more expensive. I guess you get what you pay for. Maui is so expensive and I can't believe that the prices are so high even when they are desperate for visitors. Just can't understand it. read more

It's been over (5) years since I last stayed at the Maui Beach Hotel, and I think it's about time that I update my review about this wonderful hotel! While working on Maui the last two weeks, most of the work I did was scheduled at night, and unfortunately since I've been working throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, trying to get a flight back home to Oahu has been very difficult, as Hawaiian Airlines has altered/reduced their flight schedules, due to the dramatic drop in flight demand. Since I was stuck on Maui, I had to find a place to lay my tired body, and that's how I ended up coming back to the Maui Beach Hotel in Kahului. I can tell you folks a lot has changed in the 5 years since I last stayed here, as I could clearly see they've done some renovations to their rooms. The (3) nights I stayed here over the course of two weeks I can honestly say that the Maui Beach Hotel has done a great job in keeping the cleanliness of the rooms. The rooms I stayed in, all came with the following amenities - 1. Air Conditioner 2. Small Refrigerator 3. Small Coffee Maker 4. Iron & Ironing Board 5. Hair Dryer 6. Flat Screen T.V. 7. A work desk with multi-outlets so you can charge your electronic devices. Although not a fancy hotel, the accommodations was perfect for me, as I was just on Maui for work. The room rates were very reasonable, as the room rate was just $159.00 per night, and after paying all the other taxes & parking fees, the room per night came out to just a little over $200.00 bucks per night. DEALAGES Yo! I would also like to mentioned that the staff at the front desk, as well as the hard working maids were very friendly, as I was greeted each time when they saw me. I rarely stay overnight when I commute to the neighbor islands for work, but if I should have to stay overnight for any reason, I will keep the Maui Beach Hotel on top of my list for places to stay. read more

The rooms are moldy and musty smelling. I had a layover and needed to stay for the night. Over the phone they said they had plenty of rooms so just come over. When I arrived at my room it was so smelly my asthma was set off. I called and asked to get a different room and they said they didn't have any. I opened the windows but it didn't help. I suffered all night and didn't sleep much due to having to use my inhaler. In the morning I talked to the front desk and was told they would have housekeeping check the room. No other compensation was made Or apologize made. DO NOT STAY HERE!! I coughed on the plane back to Kauai and had bronchitis when I saw the doctor a day later. Location is great - especially close to the airport. We booked an extra day, after leaving our condo in Kaanapili to stay at this hotel. We took our car back to the rental agency; were picked up by the hotel's shuttle and returned to the hotel where we spent a leisurely day. The shuttle took us back to the airport the next morning with no hassle of car return. Worked out great! Two shopping malls are nearby; one named Queen Ka'ahumanu, right across the intersection, which has a food court. Restaurants are within walking distance, but closed on Sundays. Shuttle service to the airport was perfect. Pool is clean. The area behind the hotel is a large grassy area and small beach. It's a lovely spot to read, eat lunch or nap. Then, there's ocean swimming and tide-pooling available. Just be aware that this is an older hotel. The decor is dated; carpet old; rooms are serviceable but small. Vanity and sink were very small... especially for 2 people. Food service in the hotel was poor. The menu was very limited to variations on a big meal. No small choices available. We never actually saw the restaurant open other than for a private party. This is why the food court at the mall, the nearby restaurants, and the Whole Foods at the other mall (Maui Mall ) all are important. Note: Look for "Maui Sunday" on Sunday afternoon till 8 pm, as you walk from the hotel to the Maui Mall. Event features local crafts and food trucks. Tough to get a nice hotel for a good price in Maui so I can see why people consider this location. For us, we were able to redeem our credit card rewards to cover our entire week stay so we were initially very happy considering Maui hotels can break the wallet. This place is fine, not great. There's nothing here that was dramatically terrible but obviously not a five star type of stay. They offer free dvds which is a nice perk but that's about as far as amenities go. The a/c in our room was just so loud. It was really dim and the only option for room-wide lighting was to completely open our windows (no sheer curtains, only blackouts). Cleaning staff was friendly. Beds were a bit hard. As for recommendations, I probably wouldn't suggest this to someone but I also wouldn't recommend against it. It's a good choice for budget travelers. Overall, this hotel served its purpose, which was to give me a place to sleep while stranded on Maui due to plane problems and a missed connection! Earlier in the morning I tried to change rooms. So I called the front desk and ask if I could and if there was any available rooms that we could take. Over the phone she said "what we? Who is with you?!" Very loud tone of voice. So I said my wife! Who else would be here?! Then she said okay okay come to the front desk and will see if I can move your room. On the front desk, I introduced my self and told her that I was the guy who called this morning. This lady looked at me as if I was not a guest frown facial expression and everything and said Yes I found you a room come back at 3 pm. I asked her in a very nice way if it could be done earlier. She said "no, specially for a room move". What does that mean? Im not staying in this hotel for free! She showed me where to put my bags. Then as I tried to ask her another question she walks away from me. Ughhh. When my wife and I returned 2:40pm. I came up to the front desk and who is there?? NANCY of course!! She said okay Ill check... But of course she started doing something else. So Liz stepped in. Liz said she found us a room and would not have to wait. "251" Nancy stared down at Liz gave her a kick... She tried to make it low-key but i totally saw it... and said no. Thats already reserved. Liz said it is not and again tried to give the room to us... but Nancy insisted no... Im not sure what it is but that room is seaside so Nancy is not giving me that room. I can't with this lady. She gave Liz a room number and I just took it. My Hawaii day was about to get ruined my this grouch. Management If you are reading this. If you're scrolling through and see the hotel's pictures of rooms and their views and think to yourself "this isn't bad", LISTEN TO ME. RUN THE OTHER WAY. Like to Lāhainā. Do not stay at this roach motel. The rooms are AWFUL. Small, like 10 x 12. Dirty, old, musty worse than motel 6 rooms. The night staff are RUDE and unwelcoming. The beach is rocky and in an industrial area. The photos on their website are very deceptive. A local asked us where we were staying and we told him, and he immediately scrunched up his nose and said "oh no". Exactly. Oh no. I can't find one nice thing to say about this overpriced turd. They charge $15 a day for parking in their sketchy parking lot, plus "resort fees". Make no mistake, this is no resort and you will regret even spending 1 night here. The showers are about 2'x2' so don't drop the soap! They are old and covered in hard water stains. The toilet seats must be the originals from 1965. They are cracked and peeled. The carpet in the room was literally sticky. Avoid this place. read more

We stay here when we come to Maui. It's basic, no frills but good enough for our short trips. It's located in Kahului on the main drag, very close to the airport and the 2 malls- Maui Mall with Longs Drugs and Whole Foods and Kaahumanu Shopping center. Dated rooms with coffee pot and fridge only, no microwave. AC worked and was very quiet. Lots of hot water but the shower stall was size of a cupboard (will work for a skinny person). Beds were too soft for my taste as were the pillows. But overall it met our needs. read more

Avoid this hotel. It's under construction, the beach overlooks an industrial area, and the rooms are dated. It's highly overpriced and they hit you with amenity and parking fees as soon as you walk in the door. I am here for a quick 2 night visit, so booked something 2-3 star. I booked online and paid in full. Front desk tried to charge me again, claiming the "deal" I got was for only one night. Then she searched for how to charge me more. We agreed on $78 for parking and "resort fees" which is such a joke. The hotel is cozy and appears clean. The room is outdated, but comfortable. The bed is clean, which is all I need to be here for. The walls are thin and traffic/halls/courtyard is loud, which is annoying, but again, 2ish star hotel, so fine. Overall it was decent, but I probably wouldn't stay here again for the price. read more
