Coffee on the tree
Anthony S.

We were not sure what to expect when we first arrived, and questioned even more as we walked the tour. But when we got to the top of the hill and the preparation area, what went before just faded away. Understanding the process of making coffee and chocolate was made so easy by Katelyn our guide. We ground the cocoa beans ourselves, a few times, blowing off the husks as we went. And to see the chocolate butter appear as you keep grinding it is quite something. We were looking for something different to do and this was certainly different, and very enjoyable once we got into it.

You can see in this image we were clearly in a poor kept garage.

To say this tour was a scam is a complete understatement. My family and I decided to stop by the Maui Coffee and chocolate tour while visiting the island. We were met with complete disrespect, disorganization, and frankly a horrible tour guide. When we arrived, Anne, our "tour guide" drove past us several times and waved at us from behind locked gates. We waited there over an hour before Anne let our group in. My grandmother called the number on the gates four times, but no one ever answered. As soon as we were let in, Anne asked "why didn't you call to see if you could come in sooner?!" My grandmother told her "we did... 4 times.." We were then brought over a small bench for our party of 12. Only 4 were able to be seated on it. Prior to booking this tour we called and let them know we had several disabled seniors with mobility issues. We we're told, accommodations could be made for our group. After about 20 agonizing minutes of Anne talking about the foliage around the bench, we asked her if we could move on because most of the people in our party were very uncomfortable. We were then lead up a small to medium size hill. She sat and watched as several family members made the hike up. As soon as we reached the top, she said "oops you guys are going the wrong way" I was completely dumbfounded by the statement as it seemed like she waited until the members of the family with disabilities made it to the top of the hill before she mentioned anything. After everyone had gotten down, we were met with an even bigger Hill. In fact, a massive hill. My grandparents were severely struggling making it up. What bothered me most, was seeing my grandmother on the verge of tears since she was in so much pain. It was only after somebody asked Anne (who was riding in a two seater golf cart) if we could offer to let the family with disabilities switch off one by one riding with her. 3/4 of the way through this hill and started making the most inappropriate fat jokes towards my family. One of which was to my grandfather "I don't think we're gonna make it up this hill with your...... Weight." She then gave him a massive side eye. After barely trekking up this mountain, we were met with a shed and we were all told to sit down for the presentation. She proceeded to point to a tiny TV on a table, we saw a slideshow of pictures of the owner and his daughter. We were then taken to the back of the shed to be shown a bucket of fermented coffee beans to which Anne placed her hand into scooped out a handful of beans and shoved it right into my face. I immediately backed away. She asked "are you sure you don't want to smell it? Are you sure?" At this point, my uncle needed to use the restroom to which she pointed to a wood pile in the same area. She announced to our group "use that wood pile if you need to use the restroom". We all were pretty shocked and we all looked at each other like is this lady joking? Nope, not joking. The chocolate tasting was all from chocolate not from this farm. All from other places, other states even. And the teeniest, tiniest portions. Please don't waste your time and money. There's much better places to spend so much money for a far better experience!

If you come to Maui or you're a resident, you have to take this coffee and chocolate tour. Informative, engaging, entertaining and delicious AND the gorgeous setting of Kupa'a Farms makes this a perfect way to spend a couple of hours out of your day. Ann and Diana, the guides, are well versed in all things coffee and chocolate. The chocolate tasting was a revelation. You've never really tasted chocolate until you slow down and let it sit on your tongue and melt. Super fun, just sign up and do it. You won't regret it.

Great guide. Very knowledgeable! Our family loved it. I learned a lot about the local edible plants!

I took my parents for their 44th Anniversary and we all love outdoorsy activities so I knew we'd all enjoy this! We were asked to arrive at 10:30 am for the tour and it lasted until 1-1:30 pm. Arrive with good walking shoes, SPF, light sweater and hat (it can get either a little chilly or hot from the direct sunlight), and well hydrated if possible. We were greeted by our friendly and knowledgeable tourguide, Kate from Maryland! She shared with us so many facts about the locally grown produce from herbs, vegetables, fruits, to the friendly worms, to compost and facts about the Farm and the hardworking staff! It was interactive because we got to sniff the herbs, taste the locally grown lettuce, carry a chicken (as seen in the photo with my mom), and even pick the Cherry coffee! After the 2 hour tour, the last hour takes you back to this beautiful seating area in a garden like setting for your 4 course lunch! Each course, the chef comes out and shares details of each course. First course was a Medley of Greens grown on the farm with Tangerine vinaigrette. It was a generous portion for our party of 3 and tried to eat it throughout. There was spiraled carrots and radish with julienned snap peas. Second course was Pan Seared Ono (their proteins are all locally sourced) with Mamaki Tea and Lemongrass Rice with Bok Choy, Collared Greens and Cabbage. Third course was my favorite! I'm usually a big fan of fish but the chicken was so savory and that rub was delish! It was an Organic, Cage Free Chicken with Coffee Cherry Citrus rub with Caramelized Coffee Honey Hash of Carrots, Parsnips, Rutabaga and Celery Root. The spread was a Turmeric and Parsnip puree. Last course of dessert was the O'o Freshly Brewed Coffee with Milk and Simple Syrup with a Dessert Platter of Fresh sliced Pineapple, Tangerine and Apple with Homemade Chocolate Truffles. The meal left us full and nourished! What a wonderful anniversary gift to give my parents. We truly enjoyed it and even made some new friends, both local and visiting.

My son enjoyed the mahi mahi tremendously, which for a kiddo who only eats chicken normally, is a huge compliment! I thought the tour was very informative and interactive as well. Our guide Molly let us pick, smell, and explore a lot of the plants they have growing on the grounds. She also very nicely picked a tangerine for my son because he really wanted one. Overall, worthwhile experience, despite the long drive from Lahaina. I would do this again, whether it is the brunch + coffee tour or the lunch tour!

If you are interested in spending some time with a true gem of a person in one of the most beautiful places on Maui while exploring an expansive garden, then this is the the right place. With high-elevation bi-coastal views of Maui island, surrounded by rolling green hills, fruit trees and flowers, up in the clouds, just standing on the property was a surreal experience. From there, you will spend time touring the garden, learning a bit about coffee and all the very many kinds of plants and fruit trees on the property. We even got to meet some horses and saw at least 3 geckos! At the end of the tour you can purchase some freshly bagged coffee as well as some coffee candy treats which were quite good. While not the traditional coffee tour you might expect, this was truly one of the highlights of our time in Kula and would recommend this to anyone open to spending some time in a beautiful place with a very very nice host.

We also bought a $10 bucket of hay to feed the goats off to the side. We were told they were under a year old, though they were already pretty much adult-sized! They were extremely enthusiastic about the hay, and the bucket was gone in no time. It was such a fun and wholesome experience, for both me and the goats. They offer 2 different options, and we chose the mixed. Between 2 of us, it was plenty. I would say even 3 people could share. We enjoyed most of the cheeses - a few were definitely unique. They have a patio area to sit at, and they just call your name when your tasting is ready. They give you information with the cheeses, so you know what you are trying. The shop had a nice assortment of other gifts, as well as the truffles. The truffles were definitely my favorite. You can just get one if you want, or you can pick out several to make a box to take home. We walked around and saw the area where the babies/young goats played on the surfboards, which is super cute. The adults are all over in different areas, and you will even see them on the roofs of different buildings. The tour would have been nice to learn some history and information, but it is still really nice to go without the tour. It was a fun and peaceful little experience.

I started looking on Yelp in hopes it would help me narrow down the best of the best and that it absolutely did. I saw the raves about Willie and knew it was going to be worth every penny. Willie called me to talk about what we wanted to get out of our trip, and he also checked back in the day before to reiterate details about where to meet, etc. We told him we really wanted to see beautiful waterfalls and some cool secret, less touristy spots. We began our drive and Willie pulled off on this little beach, and said he wanted to show us something. We walked down, and there were sea turtles all over the beach which just made my MIL's day right off the bat. Then we went to the most delicious breakfast spot I have ever been to, hands down. All along the way, he told us about the areas we were driving through, the weather there, and gave us cool little tidbits of information. We went to the Garden of Eden where to my surprise, I got ENGAGED! Willie was so sweet and so happy for us, hugs all around. He truly made that moment, and the whole day really feel like we were with a friend we'd known forever. We went to the most amazing, secret waterfall and got to swim in the swimming hole and jump off rocks with no one else around!
