Maui Plane Rides is located in Maui Hawaii at a small airport deep in the island near the Costco. We were out enjoying happy hour in Maui when we met a young couple originally from Colorado. The female half was a pilot. While talking she recommended to us that we should take a sunset flight over Maui with her old boss at Maui Plane Rides. She said it was truly a life changing experience. Well, that was enough for us, we booked one and embarked on our journey a few days later. We arrived to the small airport and met our pilot, Eric was his name maybe? He was originally from New York and was a very friendly fellow. He did his pre flight checks and we loaded into the plane and away we went. The pilot flew us all over the island and he was a very informative with his knowledge of the island and local history. The flight path he took was truly EPIC! He let my wife fly the plane for about 5 minutes, which was super cool of him. The flight was absolutely a must do if you have the opportunity and the funds. You will never see a sunset quite like the sunset over Maui from a plane. It was the most beautiful sunset ever. And I have seen many sunsets in many locales. The experience was top notch, the pilot was A+++++ and the night was truly incredible as our newly met Colorado friends stated it would be. I cannot recommend Maui Plane Rides enough, the experience was truly like nothing we've ever done before. read more

Very disappointing experience. The tour advertised six major sightseeing locations, but the pilot only flew us over three of them. While it was raining that day, the pilot only called beforehand to say we'd get wet walking from the car to the plane. He never mentioned that we would miss half of the advertised sights. After the flight, I requested a partial refund because we only received about half of the promised tour. The pilot then claimed he had warned us that weather would prevent us from seeing several locations, which simply isn't true. I understand that weather can affect flights, but customers should be clearly informed when major parts of the advertised experience won't be delivered. Poor communication and misleading expectations made this a frustrating experience. read more

Must see if you want a better alternative to the otherwise really commoditized helicopters flying around. Much personalized service and Erik really takes care of you. We saw incredible sights around the island , craters, lava fields and beautiful beaches from above. Entire process was highly efficient- Erik welcomed and engaged with our family and within 10 mins we were wheels up after a thorough safety briefing. Flight was mostly smooth but wherever it was rough, Erik took us through it well. We have been to chopper flights and it takes way too long to check in and board and of course you have more company. This was ideal for us as a three pax group. Erik spent good amount of time showing us everything that was to be seen around our chosen flight path. This is a must do if you are visiting Maui. Don't go for the helicopter rides! This is way better. You are guaranteed a perfect view and you get the whole plane to yourself. There is a small opening in the window where you can put your phone out to take pictures from. Fly with Eric if you want an incredible and personal experience. We took the 45 minutes ride and it was stunning !! The pilot was fantastic, super friendly. The whole experience was awesome. We saw Humpback whales breaching right below us and he even turned around to take a better look of them. The ride was breathtaking. They also have a 1 hour flight and a one and a half hour ride. We were very pleased with our plane ride with Eric. He genuinely wants to make sure you are happy. It's nice when the owner of the plane is the one taking care of you. We did the 5 island Maui county ride which was just a tad over 1 hour. Eric was very attentive and equally concerned with my wife who was in the back and a little nervous. He helped me take the plane off the runway and let me fly it whenever I wanted. But the views were so incredible I didn't really care about the piloting part after a while. The plane was relatively quiet and the Bose headphones were great to be able to talk with each other. There was even a little window I could open to take pictures through (no glare or haziness that way). Truly a trip of a lifetime and very fairly priced. I recommend this trip. read more

I was a little nervous taking a small plane around the islands, but once we started flying we kept being assured that everything was going smoothly and I definitely felt safe during this flight! I really don't know where to start ! Ok maybe i do , Our pilot Eric top notch! I found Maui Plane Rides on yelp which lead me to the website, I looked at what they had to offer, and from that i couldn't really decide. So i reached out to Eric via text, crazy right!? It gave the option to text or call. We went back for a bit and he gave me a some options as far as price and time was concerned and he was very accommodating to my budget and time. Very cool by the way! We ended up deciding to take the trip to Honolulu. I must say that the journey was the highlight. We passed the Sea cliffs of Molokai. Yes it is breath taking, much more beautiful than the scene in Jurassic Park. One thing I must say is this is a real adventure it's a four seat single engine airplane. No red carpet, no flight attendant and definitely no fufu first class flight. That being said , it is a clean safe plane that will give a memory that is going to last you life time. What more do you want? Now back to Eric extremely professional and was always checking to make sure we comfortable and ok, he has 15 years of experience and it showed , flawless take off and landings. He also was great at pointing things out and giving information on sites , land marks on the island's and even some history. What an epic experience!! We enjoyed our Anniversary flying over the sea cliffs of Molokai!! The views were spectacular, and Eric shared so much history and information with us. I had a panoramic view of the waterfalls and cliffs. The location was very easy to find, as Eric sent us turn by turn directions to get there, and was waiting for us to wave us into the parking area. Eric was so accommodating, he met up with us very last minute as we were heading back to Kaanapali from watching the sunrise at Haleakala. At first we wanted to do a helicopter tour but since it was last minute planning (full accountability here!) on our part, there weren't many options available. We decided to search through yelp and Eric's company was at the top of the list. We gave this company a try based on the raving reviews and we were beyond satisfied! Eric was so chill and gave great guidance on how to takeoff his plane - what a thrill! And once we were in the air he let me continue to control the plane (with his guidance) - how awesome is that! We decided to take the 30 min tour along the Hana route/coast since Tropical Storm Olivia had just passed 2 days prior - hoping for some nice waterfalls. What a treat we had - the views were SO wonderful!
