I had never been on a helicopter before. It was absolutely fantastic. These guys are the real deal. I would recommend them all day!!!

My first time riding in a helicopter was with Air Maui Helicopter Tours and it was an amazing experience. It went very smooth and there was no weird feeling since I am afraid of heights. The plane went up and landed smoothly without a stomach dropping feeling. We were instructed to wear headphones that blocked the helicopter sounds and listen to the tour guide. He explained and told us what we were looking at. We also had to share the helicopter with another couple. The helicopter had a front row for the pilot and assistant. Then after that there were two rows for tourists. I wished the tour was private and only for my group but then that would have been more money. The views were so cool! I got to see the floor and land shrinking and all the houses small like lines when I was up in the sky. The ocean looked so clean and blue! We also got to fly above mountains. There was so much grass everywhere. I got to take a lot of pictures. The bad thing was that the window of the plane had a reflection from the sun so my pictures got reflections. The whole tour was kind of short. We got to purchase a picture next to the helicopter as a memento. I had to pay for the picture and it was pricey. My wife and I have been on four Hawaiian Island helicopter tours (Kauai, Oahu, the Big Island and now Maui) and all four were with different companies, and all were great in their own way. But on this Christmas trip, my wife, daughter, son-in-law and two grandkids selected Maui Air Helicopters for a private tour of West Maui and Molokai, and we are sure glad we did! The office staff was friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. Our Pilot, Captain Kirk (you gotta love that!) was absolutely sensational. I'm a private pilot with a few hours of instruction in helicopters, so I told Kirk to give us a spirited ride. He provided just that, and it was awesome! Even the grandkids loved it! He took us deep into canyons laced with thousand foot waterfalls and verdant sheer walls, gave us a very detailed running history of everything he showed us, and when we sadly had to return to the airport, he set that bird down so gently it wouldn't have cracked an eggshell. I was so scared to ride in a helicopter that I originally booked just for my family and added myself last-minute after writing a will (not kidding). This was a truly magical experience. The 45 minute open door helicopter tour is totally worth it and enough for us. Richie was our pilot and he took us through valleys, waterfalls and sights that can only be accessible by helicopter. I loved the historical facts he would speak about and stories about his family. We did the DOORS OFF tour, which I highly recommend whether you are trying a helicopter tour for the first time or you are a seasoned helicopter tour-taker. As a first-time helicopter rider, I had some concerns. Maybe you have the same concerns, so let's see if I can allay them! - Too expensive: Well, doing a helicopter tour is more expensive than not doing one. But I think this company had the best prices of all the ones we browsed for Maui. We initially looked on Groupon for tickets, but the prices were actually cheaper direct from the company's website. - Too scary: I was scared of plummeting to my death or falling out of the helicopter. However, the ride felt so steady and slow that it was the least scary thing on my entire Maui trip (driving Road to Hana was 1000x scarier). Four of us were in the back (2 large men and 2 small/medium women), another couple plus pilot in the front. It was a perfectly fine amount of space, even with all the typical manspreading that was occuring. - Better to try closed door instead of open doors: Surprisingly, the open doors tour was minimally more expensive than the closed door, so I don't know why anyone would not try the open doors . My partner (who has done closed door helicopter tours before) said the open doors experience was much more novel and fun, with way better views. We both got to use our own cell phones, and we recorded tons of great videos from our seats -They're gonna try and upsell me: They did no such thing. At the end, they offered a venmo code that we could scan if we wanted to tip our helicopter driver (who was very nice, informative and competent). They ran the video they themselves recorded on the screen, in case we wanted to buy the video/photo package, but there was zero sales pitch. And not sure what was going on with the other Yelp reviewer, but the price that was displayed to me on the website was the price charged to my credit card, so I saw no price dishonesty On your way into the parking lot, stop by the machine to pay $5 for 2 hrs of parking. Then drive all the way to the end to park closest to Air Maui. The office has very clean bathrooms. LADIES, braid your hair thoroughly including your bangs. I did a casual braid, and by the end of the 45min tour, 50% of my hair had escaped and was whipped by the wind during the flight into a giant knotted halo around the vicinity of my right ear. read more

Do not use this company! My family had a flight cancellation day of the flight. Immediately called this place and let them know and see if we could rebook for later date. I am so happy that we booked for the open door ride with front seats! It costs a little more than the regular prices, but it's so worth it! My partner had me take the edge seat and I'm so happy that he did because I was able to take some uhhmazing pictures! My gawd... the view was breathtaking! The pictures can't even compare to what I saw in-person. Props to our pilot, Nathan! He was so funny and chill. The only downside is the combination of the headphone and goggles. It might become too tight around your head to the point where it starts pressing against your temples over time. In other words, cause pain. BUT, it's suppose to keep you safe and semi-comfortable. Before the ride, they'll take a picture of you and your group. When you get back from the ride to Molokai. You have a choice to purchase the videos taken from the helicopter. My daughter suprised me & my granddaughter with a DOORS OFF helicopter tour! There was six of us, all together. I thought I would feel weird being next to a random stranger, but I guess it has to do with weight distribution, also it didn't matter much. We were listening to very good music playing on the headphones soundtrack was great. Our pilot: Drew was knowledgeable since he was raised in Maui. He had tidbits of information that otherwise we wouldn't have known, places his dad used to take him when he was little. I was scared in the beginning because it feels like you're going to fall out. Finding the facility was a piece of cake and the operators were a perfect blend of respectfully safe and light hearted fun before take off. Our pilot was Captain Drew and this dude was just absolutely ACES. I think the best comparison I can make is to a great waiter; where you never notice the waiter is missing or that they are hanging around too much, that was our Captain Drew. He piloted us through the clouds to the the crater, Hana, DOZENS of waterfalls, and then a solid FIFTY surfers catching waves out of Jaws. We were all entertained the entire time by his commentary and musical selection; thanks Cap for creating such a great memory for me an my family and for giving John Mayers GRAVITY new meaning in our lives. This was our first trip in a helicopter with the doors off. The views were AMAZING!!! Our pilot, Dylan, was super chill the entire trip, which made me feel comfortable. He provided informative information. In fact, we visited one of the sights he mentioned while overhead. The ladies in the front were great upon checkin. Overall, customer service was great!! The only reason I'm giving a 4 star review is because I feel 4 passengers in the back is too many. I think 3 would be more comfortable. It became very uncomfortable and not much room to move at all. Deceptive advertising on the part of this company. Full color brochures found everywhere on the island, advertise several different tours with a price next to it. For example, a complete island tour for $280 per person. In parentheses underneath it says "plus fuel and tax". Of course, everyone expects to pay taxes, and a fuel surcharge makes sense. But when I called to book a flight for my elderly dad, I was told that the $280 trip was now going to cost me $420. When I asked "why such a big difference?" they told me "fuel.". It wouldn't take that much effort to be more forthright and less deceptive in these brochures. Granted, before signing on the dotted line with my credit card, I will know what I'm being charged, but the blatant and transparent attempt by this company to deceive people into thinking a helicopter tour will only cost about half as much as they really do is extremely low class. The other big heli-tour company is explicit in their ads - they show one price which includes all expenses. read more

DOORS OFF MOLOKAI TOUR IS A BUCKET LIST EXPERIENCE! ...and it wasn't even on my bucket list beforehand but should have been. We were almost brought to tears by the views of the waterfalls and cliffs on the flight, some accessed by flying deep into un-hikeable canyons and hovering to view the top section of 1000+ foot falls. With slight turbulence and a simple automobile type seatbelt, this was a little scary but the excellent pilot made us feel at ease. Also loved seeing the 3000 foot sheer drop of the Molokai cliffs close up. This was in the league of seeing the northern lights in Fairbanks, Alaska. DO IT! read more

Great helicopter tours and the best safety record among the Maui agencies! (There's a picture of Oprah going on an Air Maui tour!) All the helicopter tour agencies are located at this heliport and there's a shared parking lot. It is $5 for two hours, so be sure to pay when you pull into the parking lot. As for the actual tour, it's pricey but very affordable through Boss Frogs if you do the time share presentation. Our pilot Kelly was incredible. No motion sickness at all with a bit of Dramamine. Awesome helicopter tour by Air Maui! We got the West Maui and Molokai tour that lasted around 45 minutes flown by our amazing pilot, Richie. My husband and I were lucky to be seated in front beside the pilot so we had a wider view of the gorgeous scenery during the flight. We previously joined an Oahu heli tour in 2015 (at another heli company) but this was comparably more bang for your buck. During the ride, Richie gave us loads of information about the islands, local Hawaiians and their traditions plus more info on the various waterfalls, tourist spots and land formations we saw. He was a very skilled pilot where he was making maneuvers and getting us close to several waterfalls without making us scared or frantic. The whole ride was so smooth. LOVED that the entire flight had different background music that set the mood for the sites that we saw -- it definitely added more to the whole experience of seeing the islands from above. Upon returning, they show you a printed photo they took before embarking plus a clip of the whole ride complete with Richie's narration, soundtrack plus the views we saw. Naturally, we purchased the package bec it was def worth it! Highly recommend this experience to see the islands from the sky -- you won't regret it! read more

As much as it sounds fun, but the safety precautions are not there. - They dont care about the arrangement of people in helicopter. 7 people in one relatively small helicopter. Meaning 4 people in the back! And if you are unlucky and fly with people who afraid they will take the whole place in the seat, I my right foot was basically out of window the whole time. Instead of enjoying the view, I was fighting not to fall of the helicopter. - They only have headphones for the customer to wear, which means in any case you cannot talk back to the pilot.
