You can just feel it--and yes, confirmed: actual Mexican folks running the place, so you already know the food isn't playing around. Everything was insanely tasty and felt super authentic. Like the kind of tacos that make you pause mid-bite and rethink every other taco you've had before. Bonus points for the sauce bar--lowkey my favorite part. Nothing like standing there debating life decisions while trying every salsa like you're on a flavor quest. Easy 5 stars. I'd come back again and again... and probably embarrass myself at the sauce bar every single time. Service took a little while because there's only one guy cooking but it was well worth the wait.

The car rental company receptionist recommended this area of food trucks to check out since it was close by. It was about a 15 minute drive to the food trucks. Our friends said they've tried Ono Tacos before in Lahaina. They said that the tacos they had were good! I was in the mood for tacos so I ordered one Al Pastor "Pork" taco and the Shredded Beef Birria tacos. They were both very tasty and I would say "on par" with tacos I've had on the mainland! I would go back again the next time I'm in Maui.

Thanks to fellow Yelp Elite, Heidi L., for tipping me off on Chapino's! I saw her photos and being…read morethat I've never had this type of cuisine before, it piqued my interest and I made a mental note to try it whenever I got the chance. I found Chapino's amongst the numerous vendors at the recurring Sunday Night Market at the old Kahului Shopping Center parking lot. They are a little food stand serving up Chamorro (Guamanian) / Filipino fare. The husband and wife team are bringing the food that they grew up with to the island of Maui, adding a unique cuisine that you don't often see here on island. I briefly chatted with the owners and they are just starting out, testing out different menu items and such. Currently they have limited offerings that consist of a cheeseburger lumpia, chicken kelaguen tacos, shrimp pops, empanadas, & a fiesta plate that has 1 fried chicken, kelaguen, tatiyas, & cucumber salad. I was not familiar with any of the dishes, so I went with the cheeseburger lumpia and shrimp pops. My husband and I agreed that the cheeseburger lumpia was surprisingly good. I love lumpia, especially shanghai lumpia. Makes sense I would enjoy a ground beef and cheese version. The shrimp pops were also good, but I think it would've been even better with some kind of sauce. I feel like it needed some acidity or spice, something more to elevate it, but overall not bad at all! I would definitely like to go back and try out more of the dishes. I really enjoy supporting little start ups like this and trying new dishes expanding my palate. So go, support this little biz and find them at the Sunday Market!

The parking lot is a bit tight upon arrival, but you can definitely drive around the back and check for availability there. I was pleased to find the line wasn't outside the door. It was pretty busy inside, for good reason. Their pastries and food options looked spectacular. As I observed seated customers, everyone appeared to be enjoying themselves and their treats. I was a little disappointed to see the pump bottles of syrup by the bar, as I would've loved to try a house made syrup. But nonetheless, I ordered a cortado with coconut milk and Mac nut flavoring. It was much smaller than I was used to from ordering cortados at other shops, but it was perfect. I wish I took a photo. Since I stopped by before returning my rental car in the afternoon, there wasn't that much of a wide variety of pastries left. However I was able to snag an Ube croissant. I saved it on my flight and ate it at home the following day. It remained super soft and fresh. The ube filling was light yet flavorful without being too sweet. The color was gorgeous. I'm not sure if you'll understand, but the croissant was flakey but not dry. It was airy, but still bready and full. It was hugeeee!! I'd compare it to half the size of my forearm lol. I only waited about 10 mins from entry to exit. After trying this shop, I would gladly wait outside on the steps if I had to. Can't wait to return and try some new items!!
