I stayed at Maui Vista, Building 1, unit 1205, and this was the worst experience I've ever had with a rental property. Everything looked fine when I checked in, but after my first night I woke up with my entire back covered in painful, swollen bites. I had never experienced bed bugs before, so at first I didn't understand what was happening. The second night, I slept in the living room with different pillows, hoping it was just an allergy. Instead, I woke up in the middle of the night from intense burning and pain. The bites spread to my arms, legs, face, stomach, hands -- everywhere. The swelling and irritation were severe and extremely painful. I could not sleep at all. I messaged the owners immediately in the middle of the night telling them I couldn't stay there anymore. They only replied the next morning asking for "proof." I sent photos showing my skin covered in huge swollen red bites, but they answered very slowly and didn't offer any help. They told me they had no other unit to move me to and offered only a refund for the remaining days. Considering the state I was in, this was unacceptable. They didn't truly take me seriously until Pest Control arrived. When the Pest Control workers saw my skin, they were visibly shocked, and they confirmed bed bugs in the bed. Only after their confirmation did the owners agree to issue a full refund. Despite how severe my situation was, there was no apology, no sympathy, no support, not even a phone call. Instead, they told me that I had to leave immediately and that I would only receive the refund once I checked out. I explained that I needed time to wash my belongings so I wouldn't take their bed bugs with me. I had to throw away multiple personal items and urgently book another place to stay. The following days of my trip were ruined. I spent 5-6 days treating painful, swollen bites that made it almost impossible to sleep. What was supposed to be my long-awaited vacation turned into stress, pain, and unexpected expenses -- all because of an infestation that clearly didn't start overnight. The number of bites I received makes it obvious that this issue was ongoing for a long time and not properly addressed. Bed bugs do not appear in such quantities in just a day or two. This tells me the unit hadn't been properly cleaned or treated for months. If you don't want your vacation ruined, your body covered in painful bites, and your health and belongings put at risk, avoid this unit and be extremely careful with this property. The way the owners handled (or rather ignored) the situation was completely unacceptable. read more

This was a nice location & pretty well-kept property to enjoy! Without being literally "beach front", it's just a short walk across the street from the public access & parking lot to Charlie Young beach. There are also pedestrian crossing lights you can manipulate so it's rare to have to wait for traffic. The condos span- it's easy to get lost. But parking is relatively easy. Plenty of spaces & not a "busy" area so you have space & time to load/unload. Stair access is one route, but we sincerely appreciate the elevators to access the 3rd floor- especially hauling groceries or beach gear! The staff here were very friendly & usually greeted us as we came & went when on duty. The units are stocked full of most all necessities. They're clean & accommodating- you can find LOTS of beach gear in the storage closet! So it was much appreciated having some of that to utilize instead of having to buy or rent. Not that anyone goes to Hawaii to watch TV, but the unit we had included 3 TV's- a large screen in the living room w/ one in the loft & main bedroom, each (cable included w/ media players). The kitchen wasn't lacking anything & the outdoor community grills were excellent- you just need to get there ahead of others or wait your turn but we really enjoyed chatting with others sharing & swapping tips! The grounds are expansive- there are tennis courts & 2 pools. Lovely, maintained walkways with lots of foliage, grassy areas & all such a peaceful atmosphere. Both pools are nice & include exterior showers for rinsing any sand off before entering- also handy if you want to rinse coming from the beach access. I noticed a nook full of books to borrow & found a good read! Swap for one of your own you've tired of reading or pick up a "new to you" to enjoy on your stay. I did appreciate the trash shoots on each level. But, it was a bit odd you could only toss between certain hours- if you don't hit it by the deadline that day, you're stuck with it until the next day (so many had their bags placed outside their doors as to not attract critters into the units) but I really think the shoots need to be 24/7 because it was a little gross having to maneuver around waste bags if others didn't hit the shoot early enough. The electrical outlets in our unit were worthless, though. I really struggled to find an outlet that would charge my phone without having to "carefully" maneuver it. And, the AC was a bit weak. Residing in the loft area, there is just a ceiling fan & the central AC doesn't really accommodate the loft- it was a bit too warm for my liking. And the mattress was hard as a rock. As well as the furniture & deco being a bit outdated. That's where it needs some improvement- furniture. Absolutely everything else is modern & updated aside from the extremely uncomfortable furniture. Each unit has a nice patio area that we really utilized, too. I loved the table, but the lounger was lovely to sit & watch the sunset/sunrise- we happened to have a unit facing Charlie Young beach so there are no complaints on the view! Overall, it was a lovely stay & we felt very welcome, comfortable the entirety. You don't tend to pay so much attention when you'd rather be out & about but this was a safe, quiet & great place to stay. My boyfriend and I spent a week and a half at the Maui Vista and were impressed with their hospitality. They offer a few amenities, some of them being the pool, tennis court, and grilling station along with a few others. We had rented some mopeds and were a bit worried about the parking situation as it was a bit packed but surprisingly had no issues at all. You can also cross the street to get to the beach which was really nice. There are restaurants, bars, a gas station and grocery stores all within about a 2 mile proximity, this is always a huge plus. We did need to hit up a target at some point and the closest one was about 35 minutes away but it wasn't too big of an issue. Easy check in and easy check out! read more

This is possibly the worst place I've ever stayed. Upon arriving, our party was greeted with the worst fish smell that you could imagine. We tried to flush the smell out, but it continued to linger. Seems like it was coming through the air vents. After 3/4 nights, I got terribly congested and then felt like I had strep throat bc the vents blow on your face all night so there's no escaping it, even if you aren't even in the room during the day. We contacted the number provided, and all they did was leave air freshener plug ins in the electrical outlets. I couldn't wait to leave Maui because I was so tired of feeling sick!! :( Additionally, there were no sheets for the couch bed and the bedroom sheets had a blood stain on them. There was no body wash provided. For the price of this condo, it was ratchet to say the least. We stayed in room 3202. read more

Our trip to Maui was wonderful and our condo rental was like arriving home. The owners pretty much stocked with basic necessities lThings we needed were available without us having to go out and purchase. The place was clean and nicely decorated. We even had a own washer/dryer. There were 3 pools. My kids got to enjoy the pool once since the beach is minutes away. The food market is close by in case you need groceries or drinks. Close by there are several restaurants but be aware that most are closing early due to short staff. The area around seems pretty safe not a lot of transients. My wife and I just spent a week in a nice condo at the Maui Vista and really enjoyed the unit! Beautiful layout, nice tile floors, marble countertops, frameless glass shower enclosure, nice balcony with a beautiful view of the sunset and a small pool, only a short distance from our room but, the biggest bonus was the fact that we were just a half a block away from the ocean and a beautiful beach! The only drawback was there's a contamination of cockroaches! Only saw them a few times in the kitchen and out near the dumpster, but i'd think a nice place like this would keep that under control! read more

My friend and I stayed at Maui Vista 2212 for 5 nights. The condo is super cute and on the corner so it's closest to the stairs. We were surprised you could see the ocean from the room. Condo is in building 2 and like a 5 minute walk from from Charley Young beach, which is gorgeous, so many turtles. We didn't bring a car so we walked to everything. Closest store is ABC store and there's a center with a lot of restaurants like a 10 minute walk away.There were 4 tommy bahama chairs, an umbrella, tennis balls, two coolers, and we left a snorkeling set there. There was only 4 beach towels provided, wish there was more. The laundry machine didn't work that great, but we were still able to do a few loads of laundry during our trip. Air conditioning works, it's just a bit loud. There was leftover shampoo and conditioner from other guests that we used, shower had good water pressure. Pretty sure the bed was a Double and not a Queen but two people fit comfortably. Would definitely stay there again as the location is great and the condo was great. Cherise was great when we arrived. I stayed in unit 1111 during a 7-night vacation in Maui during August/September 2006. The unit itself had all I needed for my stay as far as kitchen utensils, cable TV, cable Internet connection, and air conditioning/fans .... and dishwasher and clothes washer/dryer. I was a little worried that there was no air conditioner unit in the bedroom, but I stayed plenty cool with the ceiling fans in the bedroom and the living room going while the living room A/C ran for part of the night. The Maui Vista condos are located in an excellent spot in Maui - very central to most everything you would want to try out or do in South Maui and an easy 40 minute or so ride to Lahaina for more touristy stuff. The condos are located across the street from an entrance to the northern edge of Kama'ole Beach I - probably the best of the 3 for swimming in my opinion. I believe the entrance beach across from Maui Vista is called Charley Young Beach .... but it is basically Kama'Ole I. Parking was easy for Labor Day weekend - not sure about how true this is during high season. They kept the grills clean as can be - every morning, scrubbing away to keep them in great shape for residents and guests of the complex. THere's a very small swimming pool in front of the first building - I'm uncertain if that's true of the other two buildings or not. Tennis courts looked fine - but who wants to play tennis with world class beaches all up and down South Maui? Overall, this place is a good pick for location and basic amenities. It is definitely not a hotel - but with the exception of a few restaurants in Maui, who wants to stay in a hotel and not have the opportunity to cook for themselves? Maybe I'm just biased to my cooking. :) Enjoy Maui - and be sure to ask lots of questions of the owners of the particular units here that you're considering renting. I'm sure each owner does their own thing - which may be good or not so good for your tastes. read more

This review is after 7 days here. Overall, semi decent buy. Other places that are nicer for less. This room (1207), was clean and had a great view of the pool. New appliances, new kitchen wares and lots of dishes and the like, towels new and fluffy. However, there are some things needing replacement, curtains, the painful couch, and the windows dont shut all the way, super inefficient when using the AC. Furniture is quite cheap, but its a rental, I get that. Not enough garbage bags, got 2 for the week, and not enough TP. Horrible pillows, foam mattess. It was nicely supplied with cleaning supplies, and beachmat, snorkels and masks, the beach chairs were broken, need to be tossed. They do have very good wifi connection. Super convienient walk to the beach, stores, shopping, and resturants! 200.00 a night, eh.. Bit pricey for this place. read more

The security guard, Tom, repeatedly harassed my roommate and I. We lived there for 4 months- this was our HOME. Tom made us feel EXTREMELY unwelcome and uncomfortable on several occasions. The final straw was when Tom called the police on us because you are supposed to wear a mask by the pool. We complied with his initial request with NO ARGUMENT. We said "ok no problem", and we got in the water. My roommate was sitting halfway in and halfway out of the water. Instead of being an adult and doing his job by coming and specifying the rules, Tom called the police, and didn't even walk into the pool area with the officer when he got there. He let the officer into the pool area and ran away. Luckily the police officer agreed with us, but if the officer wanted to he could've ticketed us $700. After this incident, we saw several other people sitting outside on the pool furniture with no masks for hours on end, with no issues. If it weren't for Tom, I was going to recommend Maui Vista Condos to my family, who visits Maui often. It is a great location in Kihei. BUT I will NOT have my family feel unwelcome and uncomfortable, like my roommate and I did for 4 months. Looking back, I feel sorry for Tom. I almost didn't write this review because he clearly has issues he needs to work through. However, I do not want anyone else to feel uncomfortable and unwelcome in their own home, like we did. If you are a young female wanting to stay in this apartment complex, I DO NOT recommend it. read more

Let me start by giving you a little background on my experiences in Maui. I had the fortune to have made several trips to Maui in the last two years and, until this trip, stayed over in West Maui/Kaanapali/Honokawai Area. This time around, I have friends staying in Kihei and thought I'd try it out. The Maui Vista Condo's are located in south Maui and are within walking distances of many shops and restaurants. I think you could opt to not rent a car and keep your expenses down. There is a great swimming/sunbathing beach a very short walk across the street. Charlie Young Beach/Kaimoele I. I recommend heading out in the am for a walk along the beach. If you are a lap swimmer, bring your goggles along with you. There are barbecues available close to each section of buildings, tennis courts and several small unheated pools on the premises. The condo I'm staying in (#2112, http://www.gonetomauicondo.com/ ) was very lovely, with plenty of sunshine during the day and super close to the small, unheated, yet completely adequate pool. It's a corner unit, which is definitely a bonus, as the bedrooms in this complex are to the back of the condo's by the corridors and have levered windows. I'm thinking could be bothersome at bedtime. Most corner units do not seem to have this issue. Walking by another condo one morning, I heard a sneeze and it sound like the person was right next to me. All the condo's have full kitchens. Most have some sort of Air conditioning, though, I found that I didn't need the A/C on if I ran the fan in the living room. My condo was well stocked, including plenty of towels/beach towels, beach chairs, mats, snorkel gear and Boogie Boards. Free Wifi, a small flat screen tv and a stereo (no auxilary hook-up for an ipod or MP3 player, though). Coffee maker for that fresh Kona coffee you must have in the am. And the owner was very easy to work with. And the entire transaction went very smoothly. Some of the units do have an ocean view, though I noticed that the units in building 1 were rather close to South Kihie road and I bet if road noise/traffic is bothersome to you that could be a problem. Overall, if you are on a tight budget and looking for a nice place to stay while in Maui, I'd recommend The Maui Vista Condos in Kihei. I'll be back again, for sure. read more

These are owned primarily by people that rent them out, which is quite popular in hawaii. The owners can be the type that actually stay there for parts of the year, or those that do it purely as investment and purchased them sight unseen. I've heard and read of horror stories of vacationers renting these condos and really being hit or miss depending on the owner. I found this one on stayinparadise.com and have found it to be a great place to stay at a great price. The owners and their families actually stay here, so they keep the place really nice. This condo is located in South Kihei, which is exactly where I wanted to stay. It's super close to Wailea, which is easily twice as expensive. I enjoy staying at condos much better than hotels since they have all the amenities of home (of course, you do have to clean up after yourself). But if you're in hawaii for a week, it's great (and economical) to be able to cook your own meals once in a while and do your laundry! At maui vista, they have a swimming pool, tennis courts, bbq area, and probably more as i'm sure i didn't check out everything. the unit itself was great. the owner put in a new washer/dryer, which was really nice to have (who wants to wear week old swimming suits?). there was a kitchen (small one) with dishwasher and free internet connection. I'm not sure if all the units in this complex are outfitted the same, but this has all the amenities i was looking for. The owners were very helpful in answering questions i had, and there were no problems with the unit. Maui certainly has a number of activities from the super adventurous to those who just want to hang out at the beach all day. it was really nice to have a great place to stay to call "home" while we were in maui. read more

My wife and I were here for 10 days, I don't know how to express my how much I enjoyed staying here. They had everything we could possibly need already stocked in the condo. We had a kitchen, double stacked washer/dryer, lanai, Snorkeling gear for 4, bogie board, 2 beach chairs, a beach umbrella, you name it they had it. These are some great condominiums that work for anyone who is looking to save money and just needs a place to lie their head. It is not the Four Seasons Hotel, nor is it a crappy Motel 8. It is just perfect for everyday travelers. It is furnished with your basic needs. Our unit had a small flat screen t.v., washer and dryer, dishwasher, one bedroom, one bathroom, and internet was provided. The only problem with the internet was one needs to plug their laptop into the modem. No router. Outside are tennis courts, bar b q grills, and 3 pools. It is located about one block away from "Charlie Young Beach", which is a great beach. What sold my wife and I on this place was the rental car that was included on the price we payed for the unit. If you want to save your money, and want to just relax like any other Hawaiian tourist does, than this is a great steal. Take advantage. :) read more

My boyfriend and I stayed in building 1 for 6 nights. We found the room on flip key I think unit 1224. The price was great. The build is nice and crazy close to the ocean. It's a short walk to some awesome food and shops. There's a foodland a couple blocks away if you need sunscreen. The building has 3 pools and tennis courts. As for our room specifically it was small and simple (which isn't a complaint) the only complaint I do have is that the pillows were waay too soft so bring your own and the bed was incredibly creaky and so loud! I wouldn't suggest it for honeymooners! read more

We loved being able to grill dinner almost every night and kicking back on the lanai watching the gorgeous sunsets. Our unit had a washer and dryer and all kinds of beach gear to use. Newly remodeled, new washer/dryer, LARGE flat screen TV, wi-fi, very well stocked kitchen and tons of beach toys including the strap-on back pack beach chairs with cooler.
