I've known John for years dating back to the old shop off Elm Street but the store is great and conveniently located in Halifax in the plaza right across from Walmart. I take my road bike in for service and the staff is super helpful and quick to repair in most cases. One time, I broke down and they repaired my bike on the spot which saved my bacon as I live about 4 miles from the store. They sell bikes too and give good advice. I bought my wife a Giant road bike there a few years ago. read more

There just isn't enough you can say about Maul's. I've been a customer for over a decade. I can honestly say I have gone to one other bike shop in all that time, it was Landry's, and you can read my review of that expierience, needless to say they screwed me. Before Maul's i used to go from shop to shop buying complete bmx bikes. It was honestly all about what the salesman wanted me to buy, and never about what I actually needed. So bike after bike broke time after time. The staff at Maul's is not like that at all. I have had three bikes built from frame up by them and every piece they had a hand in helping me make sure it was best for me, not necessarily best for profit. They also scrutinize the parts they sell, so if it's on the shelf it's a quality product. If it's not good enough for them, it's not good enough for them to sell, so that's reassuring. The selection is huge. Be it seats, chains grips gloves, bike shorts, t shirts, tubes, bmx bikes, road bikes, cruisers, shoes, pants tools, racks, helmets, bells, lights, frames tires, skateboards, hats,,, stickers, live animals...One stop shopping at it's finest. John maul, Tony Long, Josh and Justin are all extremely knowledgeable and great behind a bench. In a few minutes they can take wheels off, strip em, dress new wheels and get them back on the bike, and have you out the door for a better price than you're going to get anywhere else. anything you don't see they are more than happy to order up, and it's usually there in days. Any questions you have will be answered in a way you can understand no matter what level of rider you are. It's insane how awesome this place is as a store and shop. it's ludicrous how awesome the staff is. This place still blows my mind 12 years later. Ok, so that's why it's beneficial to you as an individual to shop here. here's the reason it helps the whole community of two wheeled enthusiasts. take a look at their site and just skim it to catch a glimpse of all the fund raising they do for various causes. Take a look at how many competitions they put together and sponsor. they hold movie premiers for bmx videos, which are always a good time, especially seeing the kid's faces (fine mine too) light up seeing some of the best professional riders from around the country hanging out. on any given day you can bump in to Sean Burns, anyone from Bone Deth, or the guys from the shop riding the ramps outside. They've held demos for Bone Deth, Kink, and other awesome bike companies. They have been instrumental in raising money for the Pembroke skate park, (please donate). What they do for the whole state in making it a better place for bikers is well worth becoming a customer. (as if the prices and general awesomeness wasn't reason enough) Whatever kind of bike you ride, whatever work you need done, whateever spoked itch you need to scratch, go to Maul's. read more

I want to echo what the other review has said - but also add that this bike shop carries a surprising selection of hybrid and mountain bikes and I found the prices to be excellent. We brought our cheapo discount store bike in for a comprehensive tune-up and it was only $25, about half the price of other places. The owner is knowledgeable and approachable, you can ask him anything and expect honest feedback. Plus, how cool is that name? I've always wanted a Sith Lord bike mechanic. read more

I've been going to Maul's (Dick Maul's Bike Shop) since 1994. I can't think of a better "neighborhood bike shop" than Maul's. I started going there to fulfill all my BMX needs, but have continued to go there for any and all of my cycling needs. When I lived in Hawaii and wanted a new BMX frame and parts I called John and ordered everything from Maul's and had it shipped to me. When I lived in California and my bike got stolen I called John and ordered a new custom BMX bike, and had it shipped to me. Now I live in Maine and will often drive down to Halifax to stop into the shop, pick up parts or have work done on my bikes. I realize that I could easily find a shop closer to me to spend my money at, but after 23 years of doing business with Dick Maul, and John this is my neighborhood shop, no matter where I live. Maul's is a staple in the BMX community, and a piece of 90's (and beyond) BMX history on the South Shore. Very impressive setup and stock for a small garage. Tons of parts, frames, accessories and stickers. This shop caters very much to BMX, which is amazing and very rare. The guy who's usually here is very cool and always helpful in getting what you need and/or want. Most of the time, he's had the specific parts I wanted (hub-specific spoke guards and a Profile crank tool) in stock! Very impressive. The only thing that kinda sucks is the location. It's in a very residential wooded area on a street that also splits to Hanson, and the sign for the shop is small, so you kinda have to know where it is. Timeless BMX with Jody and Christine will always be my favorite shop of all time, but since they closed down, I'll be calling up Maul's for my BMX emergencies. dropped my bike off on a friday i was told it would be ready on tuesday. i show up tuesday they told me the parts where not ordered. then i was told the bike would be ready on friday a week later from when i dropped it off. labor day weekend and i had plans to go away and bring bike no phone call and bike was still not ready i picked up bike still paid for nothing would not recommend or EVER use ! read more
