Overall this is a great bike shop on the south shore. Very fair prices and the owner is really nice. I dropped my bike for a summer tune up and there was a bit of a wait so it took a week but it's riding better than ever and it was a really fair price for the work! I came in with my 5 year old to get him his second bike. The gentleman in the store was fixing another bike, but he wiped his hands of grease to help us. He showed us the perfect bike, then adjusted the handlebars and put on training wheels. He also gave me tips on how to teach my son to ride without training wheels. My son played with some of his tools while he did this. When I asked about their snow bikes, he told me about how they were riding them all winter. Wow, what a great cycle shop. Not so much because of the inventory or the gear available, but because of the owner. It's been a long time since I stopped into a shop where the owner is running the show AND happens to be a racer (cross-country). He spent almost two hours talking about everything under the sun and gave me useful input on tires (he's tried them all pretty much). I've never had someone whip out digital calipers and scales to give me an in-depth analysis of a tire while simultaneously explaining how it performed in actual race conditions. Rumor has it he's quite the wheel builder and can cobble together great wheels for any purpose (by his own admission of course haha). However, two customers that wandered in confirmed that he'd built them good wheels and they were quite happy. Given his extensive workshop, stories, and his name plastered on many quality wheels throughout the shop I have no reason to doubt it. Negatives? Well, it's a small shop with limited bikes and inventory, but he assures you he can get whatever your heart desires for minimal costs if you need it. Other than this I'm really reaching. In summary-if you need a wrench to take care of your bike and you're serious about cycling you need to seek this guy out. He officially gets my vote for "best bicycle shop to deal with" award for eastern Massachusetts. read more

One of the best bike shops in MA! Full of local character. If you are looking for an honest mechanic look no further. Dave is the sole guy who runs the shop and he has the soul of a true biker. Dave's prices are often better than the competition and he can beat the internet prices on certain items too. Come by if you want to talk bikes for an hour with someone who loves to ride as much as the next guy. Dave won't try to sell you the latest and greatest thing, instead he will work with you and your budget to get you a quality item. I've had him talk me out of going with a more expensive item when there is something cheaper that works just as well. Small shop, but Dave has no problems with getting items to his shop right away. I've been a customer of Dave's off and on since 2003. I used to ride BMX, and bought many replacement parts from him, as well as receiving solid advice. I stopped riding my BMX bike seriously about 6 years ago (kids and all that), but recently wanted to get back on a bike. Dave remembered me by name even after not being a regular for several years. Dave sold me a 29" Fuji mountain bike, and gave me some valuable pointers on my new bicycling adventure. -The prices are spot on. -The selection covers entry level, all the way up to some pretty expensive machines. -Dave may not have a whole store full of expensive parts (it's a small shop), but he knows his stuff, stocks the most common items/parts, and can get you anything you want in a reasonable amount of time. -Dave won't sell you something you don't need. I watched him try to talk a guy out of replacing a $1000 wheelset for his road bike, when all he needed was new bearings... -There are always top-notch, expensive bikes in the shop for service and upgrade. People (myself included) trust Dave's high level of expertise. -Dave is a RIDER. He has many bikes of his own (MTB and Road), and likely has a personal opinion of whatever part you're asking about because he's USED it. Dave is a one man shop. Whether you're buying a $30 standard quick-release front wheel (me) or custom-built wheels worth hundreds (some other guy), the owner, Dave, treats you with equal care and attention. It's true that the inventory is small since it is such a tiny shop, but Dave CAN get you anything. And as an added bonus, he'll always tell you if a cheaper product does the job just as well as a more expensive item. Dave hand builds wheels under his name brand, Letourneau (his last name). They've been ridden in big-name races all around the country, and apparently cost a fraction of some of the fastest wheels out there (so says Dave, though I do believe him). Great bike shop... Im new to the whole cycling world and that being said I really dont know anything about bikes IE when something breaks. The problem with most bike shops is they tend to be a bit rude to people who are newbies. If you fall into this category I really recommend you go here. The guy that works there is really helpfull and wont sell on something you really dont need (which is another problem with most bike stores I have been too). A previous review described this place as a hidden gem which is a perfect description. I bought my first bike at one of the better known bike shops on the south shore. Overall a pretty decent experience but repairs and tuneups were pretty $$$ there. A friend told me about Rockland Cycle and I've been getting my bike serviced there since. I also bought another 2 bikes there and have referred several people. All of us have had a great experience. No question this is the best place to get your bike tuned up or serviced. You literally cannot go wrong with Rockland Cycles. As everyone else on this page has stated, Dave is any cyclist's dream. He's the most honest, down-to-earth, and knowledgeable mechanic you'll ever meet. When it was time for a new mountain bike, I spent weeks talking with him and trying out different bikes to find just the right one for my budget/riding style and words cannot describe how happy I've been with the bike. I did have an issue with a malfunction in the fork. Dave not only fixed it, but personally called the manufacturer and got them to give him the part free of charge to save me a bunch of cash. I grew up in the area and started a cycling/tri team at my high school which he actively sponsored, giving team members discounts on bikes/gear. This was a HUGE help because, when getting high school kids into cycling, the investment of the bike is usually the biggest hurdle. He really helped us out in every way possible, contributing to the community as a whole. Since he runs the shop himself, occaisionally it will take an extra day or two for him to finish working on my bike but the quality of service is so unbeatable, I don't mind waiting at all. Dave is a true friend and member of the local community. Whether you are a racer looking for high end custom wheels and pro-level service or just someone who enjoys the occaisional spin, Dave will help you out and you will leave smiling. If I could give Rockland Cycle more stars, I would. Why is this shop head and shoulders above the rest? Simply put, it's the owner. In addition to being a very high quality individual who has the utmost in integrity, Dave has figured out what most somehow can't. He treats the customer with respect and arms them with the information and knowledge they need to make a decision. His prices are very fair and his work is second to none. In my opinion, Dave is the best wrench in the area and maybe all of New England and knows more about bikes than anyone else I have come across. He treats every project or repair with the utmost importance and attention to detail. Dave once told me that the customer buying the $200 bike expects the same level of service as the customer buying the $5k race bike. Imagine that! Searched out bike stores on the South Shore to find the one with the best reviews, and landed on Rockland Cycle with stellar reviews on maintenance, sales, tech advice and employee expertise. I'm a firm believer that the bike store you deal with determines overall purchase satisfaction and maintenance over time, therefore I chose the bike store first, then focussed on the bike brand that would carry the components I was interested in. The owner, Dave, was personable, knowledgeable and professional. He researched the mountain bikes available and called me with a recommendation for a product with the specified components. Within a week, he ordered, built and presented the bike for a test ride. I test rode the bike, and after Dave shortened the saddle post and changed the saddle for me, I was set to go. I landed on a Scott Scale 960 and was not disappointed. The care with which the bike was assembled is evident by the smooth shifting and component capabilities. Dave spent significant time with me both over the phone and in his shop and I believe I got the best product available for the money. Dave has also offered free labor until 2020 on future maintenance, which is great customer service. I also know that I can call Dave with any questions or concerns in the future, as he is approachable, friendly and ever so eager to assist in any biking regard.
