So, in order to find this place, you walk into sola salons and go all the way to the back and open the door (to where you feel like you are exiting it, and around the corner is Mauve skin care. They could do with a sign in sola to notify customers, but not sure if sola is cool with that. I had a gift card for a facial and she asked me about my skin and suggested the hydrating facial. I told her I'm pregnant so she avoided any chemicals (I think that's my preference, anyhow!). It was very relaxing and she was very accommodating. Music was relaxing too and the massage was gentle, but firm. Extractions weren't too painful at all and same with the microdermabrasions. I asked her for recommendations after and she was very honest and told me about hyaluronic acid, which is all the rage anyhow. Super easy process! My sister originally gave me a gift card with the intent of us getting facials together before my wedding. But of course, two weeks before my wedding, I got COVID and we had to postpone our spa day. Nonetheless, Elena was super accommodating and we were able to reschedule with no problems at all. Her "salon" is located in what almost looks like an office building but it seems like different aestheticians are able to rent a little "offices" that they customize for their own purposes. Super cute and very private. Her space is very serene, complete with low lights and soft ambient music to create a totally relaxing atmosphere. Neither of us had had a facial before, so we deferred to Elena's recommendation. I appreciated that she did not try to upsell us with the most expensive option. She asked us what bothered most about our skin (dryness!) and recommended the hydration facial. She also evaluated how sensitive our skin was and tailored the treatment individually. The facial itself was a mindblowing experience. It was like Elena was performing a intricate dance, every move and transition was seamless. It starts with face steaming, warm towels, soothing creams, face/shoulder massage, and then more warm towels. Then, when you have relaxed into a puddle, the EXTRACTIONS begin. Elena described this as "the fun part." As involuntary tears rolled down my cheeks, Elena gently wiped them away and cheerfully steamed ahead. (She did ask me if I was OK, but I was like "Don't stop, get them ALL!") She even asked if I wanted her to lance my deeper white head and extracted it for me. My only complaint is that I was not able to watch that pimple get popped myself. (Later, as we made small talk outside the room, I noticed her eyes drifting down to evaluate her work to see if she had missed any and I can deeply appreciate that work ethic.) After the extraction comes the high frequency and the microdermabrasion. The whole process takes about 75-90 minutes. You can definitely tell that Elena is meticulous in her work. (No blackhead left unextracted!) She explains each step as she does it and also explains why she would not recommend certain steps (limited microdermabrasions for sensitive skin). We appreciated that she does not sell any products but offered authentic recommendations on products that would work with our skin type. Overall, a truly positive experience. This was my very first facial ever and Elena made the entire process comforting and smooth. Mauve Skin Care is in the Sola Studio building. You'll enter and find suite #20. All the salons are labeled so you'll have to walk around till you find it. When the door is closed and the curtain is drawn, Elena is working with someone. I accidentally made the mistake of walking in while she was still chatting with someone. Elena came outside and got me at my appointment time. I didn't know which facial to get and Elena asked me about my skin and what I was hoping for. After analyzing my skin, she made some suggestions on the type of facial. Elena walks you through every step and tests things on your shoulder before she does it on your face so you know what to expect in terms of sensations. Elena is very authentic and cares about her clients. I told her I had sensitive skin and she made sure to not use too intense of a product on my face. She would add or remove things from my facial depending on my skin type and skin history. Extractions are uncomfortable but Elena is very careful and she wants you to notify her whenever something hurts or is not feeling right. She was always checking in with me to make sure I was doing okay. Her touch is absolutely to die for. Her hands are rhythmic and they apply the best kind of pressure. The facial and shoulder massage was utterly relaxing. Her tone of voice is soft spoken and she doesn't talk too much which gives you the full relaxing experience. Booking through the website was easy and all her services along with the prices are listed. I'm so grateful that I found Mauve Skin Care. I had such a wonderful first facial experience with Elena! This location may be a bit difficult for first-timers to find. Her studio is located in a large building that consists of several different beauty studios (hair, makeup, skincare, etc) and Mauve is located towards the very back. I came to Elena for my first ever facial because I'm about to get married and was in dire need of a boost for my skin. Having had a facial this morning, I couldn't help but come back and give Marina an update on awesome-ness. I have been going to her for 5 years now-- even before she started her own skin spa. (I discovered her here on yelp at another place.) Maybe you are coming across this review and you are looking at this as someone who did what I used to do-- use yelp to find new spots to eat, or find a new esthetician. Walking in, Marina will have you lay down on her bed and ask you what concerns you are having with your skin. She will listen to you intently and then come around to feel your skin and address your issues. Upon doing so, she will then cater a facial around your specific skin type and go on to work her magic. Without going too much into her routine, I will say that the entire time you lay in her bed time you feel like you don't want her to stop. You are put into such a deep state of relaxation that you almost feel like butter melting in her hands. She massages your face as warm steam is blowing directly onto your skin (this opens up your pores). Did I mention that she also gives the most wonderful mini back and shoulder massages? I will say that these mini massages are better than some full body massages that I've had in the past. After applying various exfoliators and masks, Marina goes on to do extractions which are only slightly uncomfortable as she takes out blackheads. She then closes up your pores with an instrument that almost feels like a slight electric pulse (minus the pain). She follows up with a mask catered to your skin. In my case, it's usually a lactic acid mask since my skin is super sensitive. When it's done, she cleans your face, applies a moisturizer, sunblock (if you would like some), and an organic peppermint lip balm that is made by one of her fellow estheticians. During the entire facial, there is spa music playing which is a nice touch. At the end, she leaves the room, giving you the time to change. There is this moment when she leaves the room and you're in this bed and you almost don't want to leave because time has passed way too quickly. But, reality sets and you know that you will see her soon because a facial this good just can't be missed. I went to Mauve Skin Care to get a facial wax and left extremely satisfied. First, I went onto the website to make an appointment. Extremely easy, you get to pick who you want, times and dates that are available and you'll get an email right away, confirming it. I had Marina and she has been doing this for seven years. She is extremely skilled and knows what she's doing and I'm pretty sure everyone here is the same as well. When you first walk in, it is bit difficult to find, but once you are there, open the door and you have enter an entire different atmosphere. You will be ask to fill out the forms and then you are moved into a room, almost like a Doctor's room. However, the music that is played relaxes you and if you bring someone, there is a chair for them to sit in as they watch you get wax. THE PROCESS: -It last around half an hour to 45 minutes. -She will use a popsicle stick along with wax and will go through about 20 strips. -She will start out around your forehead, to some parts of your neck and make her way around. -She is very thorough and once she is done, she will use a tweezer afterwards to make sure that there are no more hairs lingering around. -During the process, she will add some baby powder to calm down the skin. -And after the process, she will massage and add sunscreen on your face so that it helps with the pain and decrease the redness. As my first ever facial, I wasn't sure what to expect; I was a little nervous about the pain from extractions, yet excited after reading through the reviews on Yelp. The parking area is shared with another salon so when I first saw "salon", I thought it belonged to Mauve but it's actually the building with a small circle as the logo. Marina's room smelled so amazing from the moment I walked in. I asked her what it was and she said it was her own experimentation with essential oils. Nice! Before the facial, Marina asks a series of questions to gauge your skin's reaction to certain products, asks whether you use acids on your face, and does a physical assessment of your skin's condition. Then, the magic begins. Depending on what type of facial you opt for, you'll get a series of curated steps. I got the hydration facial so while the steamer was on my skin, Marina provided a much-needed massage. As the steps continue, she will let you know exactly what products are being applied on your face and when extractions will happen. Speaking of, extractions weren't as painful as I thought it would be, but it wasn't a walk in the park. I suppose that's because I've never had a facial before and I had extremely congested skin. With that said, there was A LOT of work to be done. There was actually a spot of my nose that I had assumed was a small mole but after the facial, I realized it was probably a very stubborn blackhead that my Biore pore strips couldn't take off even after years. So props to you, Marina! I felt completely comfortable during my session and cannot wait to go back. She took me in on time and then asked about myself and my skin issues/concerns. She recommended the hydrafacial since it was my first one. She didn't try to sell me the most expensive one. I was going to hold off from writing a review until my next appointment (November) to see how my skin has improved, BUT, 2 days after my appointment my skin is thanking me! I have to tell you guys about Elena! I haven't gotten a facial in about 3-5 years, and was extremely nervous! I really needed to find someone who I could trust! My 1st impression of Elena was that she's very courteous, prompt, and she listened to my skin concerns without inserting herself and telling me this or that. She truly gave me the facial package based off of what I have been experiencing with my skin. I totally appreciated that! I knew right then and there that I could trust her! This is my first facial with Elena & I am very satisfied & happy! I waited a day to post about my experience just to see how my face felt after the facial, and boy do I feel amazing! I booked an appointment online and received a reminder text the day before. Upon entering the spot (it's inside the Salon with a bunch of other individual spots in Willow Glen), I was kindly greeted by her. Side-note: There's a private parking lot and lots of nearby shops if you want to spend time there before or after your facial. Before my facial, Elena spoke to me about what I wanted and was very detailed in explaining the different options. She took time to thoroughly explain the different facials as well as the costs right up front. She's honest, kind, & a great listener- and she knows her stuff! The facial experience was amazing. Very clean, small room for fit for one appointment at a time, a nice calming aroma, & a great hour and a half experience. As she was doing my facial, she explained what each procedure was and what it did to my skin & it was so relaxing. Not only did I have a great facial, I had a great and much needed massage! I was here for my 2pm appointment and left the office at 2:05pm today. I made an appointment hoping to get rid of all my whiteheads on my face, especially on my nose. The employee then advised me it could not be done because California does not allow needles to be used to extract the whiteheads that are way under my skin. I was advised to see a dermatologist for my condition. There was a misunderstanding over the phone and she thought I said black head and I probably did! I'm soooo happy I found Marina again! I used to go to her for Brazilian waxing when she worked at Balance Skin on The Alameda. I left to get laser hair removal and during that time she started her own business. After 2 years, I need to do a little waxing (laser hair removal is actually laser hair reduction!) and went back to Balance Skin Care only to find Marina had left. I was disappointed but didn't want to start going to a new place because having your lady parts worked on is delicate work and I'm tired of experimenting with new people. The Esthetician let it slip that Marina had started her own company. It would have been rude to reveal my glee on the table but as soon as I went home, I searched for her on yelp and made my next appointment. Marina is sweet, gentle, and thorough. She uses hard wax and does not double dip. One thing I really like is she walks out of the room to let you undress and position yourself on the table. She also gives you a little towel to cover yourself. We all know she's going to see everything so some esthetician's don't go through the formality of leaving the room or giving you a towel but I appreciate that step. I feel like it gives me some dignity. It's awkward having someone in the room while you're bending over to take off your pants. And, I can be clumsy so losing your balance while taking off your pants and having someone in the room be a witness to that is especially embarrassing. Marina talks enough but doesn't talk too much. I know many service providers talk to help the clients feel more at ease but I don't need all that non-stop gibbering so I appreciate that Marina takes cues from her clients. I appreciate that ability to observe and adjust a little to meet your client's needs. The building itself is a little old but don't let that fool you. She first asked me if I had any concerns and if there was anything specific I was looking for. I went with the hydrating facial. I'm currently 8.5 months pregnant and Elena made sure that I was comfortable throughout the facial. She told me there were a few procedures we had to avoid due to the pregnancy. This place has just made me a returning customer. Esthetician: Alina Service: Facial I had a 3:45pm appointment and came in about 20 minutes early because I was afraid I might not be able to find parking. That was not the case and I was able to snag a spot with ease. Alina greeted me in the waiting room and got some water for me. I didn't wait long. She picked up my file which apparently had notes from Marina about what I had come in for before (cleansing facial). We discussed what I was in for this time (I was breaking out like I was a teenager again and wanted to try and get it under control before it got worse). She then brought me into the facial room (which was a different room than the one I was in last time)- it was cozy but welcoming. And most importantly, clean. This facial felt a lot like Marina's. Same level of work, same kindness, same friendly and honest demeanor. She asked me in the beginning if I wanted to know what was being put on my face or not. I said I did so she kept me in the loop. Marina has been my esthetician for almost 2 years. I first started seeing Marina in preparation for my wedding, and I had some severe acne issues appear. Marina had me use the Dadashie system, and for each facial, really took her time and thought about all the products she was using on my face. Once my face cleared up, I continued to see her, and she has been consistent and thoughtful in her approach to my skin. Marina does a great job while actually doing the facial--doesn't extract too much or too little, and simply does what she thinks is going to be good for your skin. She has a gentle touch. She doesn't push products on you by any means either. For me, visiting Marina for a facial is like catching up with a friend at lunch--we've developed such a nice rapport.
