This was a good experience found through the Yelp search. In the John's Creek area for an appointment and needed a food recommendation. The restaurant was very clean and comfortable to include the restroom. Our server was quick and friendly. She even ask how our first visit was. The food was fresh and appealing to the eyes. The taste was delicious as well. Will visit again if in the area.

Why haven't I been here before? My girlfriend chose this place to meet my boyfriend and I for dinner last minute. I had never heard of it, but I saw all the good reviews on Yelp, so we headed over there over the weekend. I have to say this place is tucked away in a plaza, and easy to miss. I'm in this area all the time, and never even noticed it. Well, hello there! Mavericks has certainly caught my attention now. I have literally never seen my boyfriend tear up chips and salsa until now. He's so health conscious, but wow...he was literally throwing them down. The salsa was terrific and super fresh, home made every day there. We all loved it. I loved the chips because they weren't greasy and they were nice and thin with a touch of salt. Delish! My friend ordered the shrimp quesadilla, I got the chicken tacos, and my boyfriend got the brisket tacos. We also got a side of the sweet potato fries with chipotle cream and cotija cheese. I do prefer my fries crispy, but the overall taste of the fries was good. We were both so happy to even see sweet potatoes on the menu. We all liked our food. The waitress was awesome! I also like that they put a pitcher of water on the table, because the glasses are small. All in all, a great experience, and we sat on their outdoor patio which was nice for ambiance. I see why the reviews are so good. Keep giving this place the love it deserves....it's worthy!

I liked the vibe inside. The food however was average in my opinion. I've had much, much better. I ordered steak tacos that come with rice and beans. I thought food could be more flavorful. They were kinda bland to me. Because of the good reviews I wonder if it was a miss this time. Won't be returning.

Mavericks Cantina is a quaint and casual Tex-Mex restaurant with beachy surfer vibes. I was promptly seated and greeted for lunch and the waitress brought over complimentary chips and salsa, which were tasty. I had the chicken quesadilla and it was delicious but there was no dipping sauce provided, only rice and beans. I would prefer if it was served with sour cream, queso, guacamole or some type of sauce. Otherwise, it was great!

Almost didn't go because Yelp posted closed but Google posted open. Decided to check it out and glad to find it open! Chips and salsa were so good. Not hot but full of flavor. I got the Mavericks Taco Salad. The chicken was okay if you wanted more savory meat but overall the salad was amazing! I would order again. My husband ordered San Felipe Vegetable Enchiladas. Wow, they were the best! I'm usually not a fan of enchiladas but these were exceptionally good! Our waitress was good and wait time was fine.

For my first time coming here I really enjoyed the food and experience!! I am giving it 4 stars because there are probably other places I would think to go before here. We came on a Saturday night around 7pm and were able to be seated right away for just 3 of us. I could see how this place could get busy though because it isn't the biggest in the inside. The menu isn't the biggest but they do have a good choice of options. Lots of different tacos and other entrees to choose from. I ordered the chicken quesadilla which was massive and delicious. I also got the skinny margarita which was also great. I loved that they bright chips and salsa as well to the table to start. That is always a plus at a restaurant. The wait staff was very welcoming and friendly to us. I would come back again to try something else on the menu.

You can't beat Maverick's! The margaritas are flippin' incredible! And the servers always go above and beyond. My family literally eats here once, if not twice, a week. Go on Tuesday so you can mix & match tacos! And don't forget the queso, obviously.

I'm a huge fan of Mexican food and decided to give this place a try that's super close to home. I met with a few friends for an early dinner and decided to just go ahead and order an appetizer of queso to share with the table. The queso came with a side of 3 tortillas and they did offer complimentary chips and salsa. The queso looked delicious and was served with peppers and tomatoes on top. It definitely was on the greasy and heavy side BUT it was so worth it on a cold rainy day. I didn't try any of the tacos but my friends loved the fact that it was spicy and were quite flavorful. Overall a really nice Mexican place in the neighborhood with reasonable prices!

Met a friend here for lunch. It was okay. They started us with the standard salsa and chips and the salsa was really good. It was obviously made fresh. I enjoyed it. I didn't see a lunch menu for them, so I don't know if they have one. What they gave us didn't seem like a lunch menu or say that it was one. Normally, I would ask for the lunch menu and I don't know why I didn't. Anyway, I ordered the Pineapple Habanero Mahi Mahi tacos. These were not bad. Definitely had a spicy kick. The pineapple habanero salsa may have overtaken the mild flavor of the mahi mahi, but I enjoyed it. You get three tacos for $15. They were accompanied by a nice lime flavored rice and black beans. Don't expect large quantities of these sides. My friend ordered a chicken salad which looked standard and nothing special. We also ordered an order of sweet potato fries ($6). Those were okay. We sat on the patio and the flies were out of control and did impact the lunch. When I've eaten on patios a thousand times before, flies haven't been a problem, so I'm not sure what was going on there. They do need to have some kind of repellent though. The inside seemed open and cute. I didn't look hard because I was in a rush to get outdoors. The service was absolutely fine. Lunch will be a little more expensive than a standard lunch at countless other restaurants, but it's an okay spot for getting a bite to eat if you are in the neighborhood.

Late post alert: June 2022 Service: Pierce was remarkable. He delivered 5-star service. My tequila cocktail wasn't memorable. The steak tacos were ok.

Mexican corn
Christian E.

Excellent service! The strawberry margarita and wicked dolphin cocktails were delicious and strong but small for the price. The Mexican corn was AMAZING!! The fish tacos were slightly dry and not as fresh as it could of been. The chips and salsa were great! The chairs are not the most comfortable especially if someone is bigger. We would definitely come back!

Greetings! Any vegans dine here? I'm going to try the vegan quinoa bowl, but was looking to see if there are any menu hacks for more vegan items. Thanks.

I'm not a vegan, but you might want to ask how they fry the avocado tacos because they are unbeatable.

I was really looking forward to trying the oysters, but I didn't realize their menu changes often so unfortunately, no oysters this time. A little sad about that! We decided to order pretty much everything off the à la carte menu. Overall, the food was just okay to me. The Brussels sprouts were the hardest to eat they were basically raw, just thinly sliced with sauce poured over. It would've been much better if they were at least steamed or grilled a bit. The mushrooms, though, were absolutely BOMB! If I didn't know what it was, I would've thought it was some sort of meat dish super soft, flavorful, and delicious. Definitely the highlight of the meal. The Wagyu, on the other hand, was a big disappointment. For the price, it was tough and chewy when it should've been buttery and melt-in-your-mouth tender. Overall, the place is cute and the vibes are nice, but the food was overpriced for what it was. I'd only come back for those mushrooms they were that good.

I placed an order for everything on the carte menu. Food was fun and a few of the dishes caught me off guard, in a good way. Pros. We loveeed the maitake mushrooms. This dish was one dish my friend and I had low expectations for. Ironically it's the only dish we would go back for! The bucatini I also had low expectations for. I hardly order pasta, from non pasta specialty places, because the pasta is 99% of the time going to be overcooked. BUT this bucatini was cooked perfectly al dente. The sauce was rich but not too heavy and just enough to cover the noodles without drowning. The crab taste was pretty faint. If it weren't listed on the menu I wouldn't even think it were in the dish. Cons. The brussel sprout salad was honestly almost inedible. It is a raw shaved brussel sprout salad, dressed as a Caesar salad. Although not bad tasting, the core of the sprouts was not tender but dry and hard. There was also a lot of it. Most disappointing was the "waygu ribeye". The quality was pretty horrible. The piece we got had silver skin as well as chunks of fat. I wish I got a picture of the leftover fat from the steak but if you look at my picture you can clearly see slices of just fat. I love a little fat on a well cooked ribeye and do not mind paying for it. But paying $50 for a probably 8oz "waygu" ribeye with only half of it palatable is wild. Regardless, I'm actually going back in a couple of days with my husband because of those amazing mushrooms.. though as I am writing this review I'm debating on canceling my reservation, ordering the mushrooms to go, and just going elsewhere. lol
