I don't normally go out to eat because I know I can make it better and cheaper than most restaurants, except for El Molcajete Cantina, I absolutely love this restaurant. The servers are always so welcoming and friendly, which is a plus nowadays but the food is epic. From the Molcajete cheese dip with shrimp, steak and chicken to the chunky guacamole, it's perfection. I usually have no room left for an entree but always bring home an order of the Tacos El Carbon, it's my favorite. I understand that normally folks like this place. our experience was terrible. arrived at 8:15. they close at 10. after our initial order was finally take , therude server ignored us completely. only one other table was occupied. almost every order (food and drink) was wrong. only when one friend from Colombia called out to a guy in Spanish did we get anyone's attention. the server actually came out and yelled at us that, quote "when I checked on you 20 minutes ago, every single one of you said you were fine!" she started stacking chairs around us at 9:32. some folks came in off the street and for about 10 minutes did some sort of dance/skit for the other table and then us and asked for "donations". not an employee in site during this strange event. absolutely awful. will not be back. read more

This spot has some pretty good Mexican food and for the price you get a ton of food!! I went with the chicken chimichanga which was served with rice and beans along with a guacamole salad which was quite refreshing to balance the heaviness of the dish. They give a good amount of chicken in the dish and overall it was so filling I almost skipped dinner. My brother got the pollo fundido and really liked his dish as well. I also ordered a spinach enchilada and quesadilla and a chicken enchilada which served as a great lunch meal the next day. As an added bonus, they also included chips and salsa in a bag and their chips were really good! If you're craving Mexican food and want the most for your money, I definitely recommend this place! read more

My husband and I came here for a date night. We were seated promptly but it took a bit for our server to check on us. It was an extremely hot day and the restaurant was a bit warm. So we both ordered margaritas and they were fantastic. I had a frozen strawberry one and my husband had a regular one on the rocks. I too would come back for the margarita. I had grilled chicken with mushrooms and spinach. It was really good. The chicken was tender and it had a great flavor. My husband had a burrito that had shrimp, chicken and steak in it. He wasn't as impressed. He felt there was more beans and rice than anything. That being said, he did like the flavor. I would definitely come back again to give it another try. We've been going there since the beginning when it was called something diff before. I used to live around the corner and try to support the local businesses around. This was our to go place whenever I didn't want to cook after work lol. All the regular employees are gone now, they were always so friendly and always made me smile. We were there last night and seated quickly. Got our chips and salsa and said we needed a couple of minutes to look over the menu we have to scan off the table to see online. Great food, friendly atmosphere. I've had the California burrito, excellent. Tacos are great and they have a Wednesday taco special for $1.00. My son likes his quesadilla special made and they do a great job. Also their steak, ribeye I believe, aways comes out perfect with so much you have leftovers. Love this place, and our server is usually Chella who is always very alert for our groups with come with. Wonderful place to spend quality time with friends and chat over great inexpensive food. We decided to give this place a try since we are longtime Suwanee residents and like to give new business a chance. Even though this particular spot has had more names than I can remember over 14 years. The only good thing about our meal was the chips and salsa. My fajita nachos arrived at the table less than 5 minutes after ordering and nothing was fresh. Even worse, my 16oz Rita-Classic ($10.75) was 2oz of margarita mix and almost no alcohol -see picture. The same drink at any other local restaurant would not be filled over with ice at that price. Just a very disappointing experience for our date night. The 5 star reviews are confusing to me. Total bill was over $35 which is 2x what anyone else has stated. read more

Been to this location a couple of times. I usually go to the Buford location since it's closer. I have to say I feel like the Buford one is better. That one initially brings both salsa's while this one only brings one and you have to ask for the darker one. Oddly enough also, the salsa at Buford tastes better. Don't know why since it's the same company and one would think they'd use the same product. Even the food tastes better at Buford. I know different locations have different cooks but it seemed noticeable both times. It's not like the food had been inedible, but it is what it is. read more

I'm actually saddened by this 3 star review because this place deserves better. The food is really good and the Texas Margaritas are equally impressive but the service was simply horrible. Our server forgot our order of guacamole (which was amazing once we got it) and almost never checked on us. When he did, it was as if we were bothering him if we asked for anything at all. It's really a shame because we genuinely enjoyed our fajitas, the chips and salsa and, once again, the margaritas were awesome....and cheap! We will definitely come back again and hope for a better service experience. Assuming that happens, this place would easily get 4 stars, maybe more. UPDATE: 04/06/19 - As I said before, we came back and it was a much better experience...much! Jocelyn was our server and she was a rock star! So much better than the first guy we had, who clearly needs to find a job he likes more. And the food! I ordered the namesake menu item (El Molcajete) and it was ridiculously good. We went for an early dinner today. The place was clean, quiet and not crowded. We ordered their house margarita which was really good. We requested a spicy dip for the nachos and we got an excellent dipping sauce which was not only spicy but with lots of flavor. Good experience here. Food is good. Fresh guacamole is made on the spot. The quality of food is a little better than the typical Mexican restaurant, for the same price. Friendly staff. They could use another server or two, Atmosphere is okay. Cook staff plays music, and it clashes with dining area music (no big deal but kinda disrupts the ambience). Staff does well with allergies. Great food, not so great atmosphere and terrible service. This restaurant recently changed names and, I assume ownership. They have a nice mix of traditional Mexican and your typical "Texican" dishes (think basically any dish you can get at a Mexican restaurant anywhere except SoCal or the Southwest). I had a chili poblano and a chicken burrito with rice and beans. It was too hot to eat when it got to the table so bonus points for freshness. My kids all ordered something with fries. The fries all by themselves are worth a trip here. I will update my review next time I go...hopefully the new staff gets the kinks out quickly. Suwanee residents are not very tolerant of poor service so the fact that the food is good is a savior for them. read more

So my family and I stopped at this restaurant yesterday to eat. We are all vegetarian and order specific food. Food came with meat so they exchanged one of the plates and it came with meat again. And the waitress tried to tell us that it wasn't meat. Also one of the orders was placed with no sour cream and it came with sour cream. The waitress caught a bad atitude n rolled her eyes. To sad because we have been passing here for years going up to the lake and could have been our next favourite Mexican restaurant especially we frequent the liquor store next door. This is a very casual restaurant with very decently priced food! The California burrito is delicious and very cheesy! I would like to go back and try their fajitas! Last night (7/22/2018), my wife and I went to El Molcajete Cantina & Grill. Our waitperson was Paola. She did a fantastic job. Management better keep her, she's worth her weight in gold! She served us, then disappeared. But, re-appeared whenever I thought of something I might want. It was like she had ESP. Now back to El Molcajete, WOW! I am at a loss for words (that seldom happens to me). What a nice surprise. Their menu, and portions, are very large. The chips were fresh and the two different salsas were to die for. I had beef fajitas. My wife had enchiladas. Both were excellent meals. They were cooked to perfection. They were presented (not just served) with a flair as though we were in a 4 * restaurant. The food tab was less that $22. Amazing! Being retired military, I asked if they offered a military discount. Zip! There went 10% off our bill. I highly recommend this place. It blows their competition out of the water. None of the other rating sites have this place listed. Go there before it is too well known. read more
