It's consistently lukewarm or, in some cases, downright cold, which is disappointing. For the area, it might pass, but temperature issues like this shouldn't be a recurring problem. It took over an hour to get our food. In the meantime received some of the worst service from server Makenna. No apology for the food taking that long. Practically threw our plates on the table. She left the food stand collapsed on the floor that we had to pick up. She cared less about any ounce of service because she could tack on an autogratuity for our group of three adults and five children. We had the manager remove. Worst service we have had in awhile. Mediocre food at best. Buckle up and get ready for a minimum two hour fest. I would highly recommend going elsewhere to save your sanity and wallet. read more

Terrible service and food. Ordered chicken parmesan with the chicken on the side. What we got was chicken alfredo with the chicken on the side. When we asked for marinara, the waitress never brought it. The waitress asked what side we wanted with our chicken parmesan, however, we never received that either. Also, my bill was over $32 for a crispy chicken salad and a meal we didn't order!! Short staffed was not the issue as there were plenty of workers standing around the bar area. We arrived from our hotel without walking in the frigid air outside. We were seated right away. And our server took our drink order. She even brought me extra ice when I asked. I ordered the Jack Daniels salmon with a salad and baked potato. My husband ordered a filet with a salad and baked potato. Our salad came out right away. I'm surprised that it took so long for our dinner to come out. I'm not even hungry anymore My salmon came and they forgot the Jack Daniel glaze. I'm surprised that it's a $1.00 for a glaze the customer adds instead of being cooked with the glaze. I will say the salmon was perfect at one end and slightly undercooked at the other. Had the Maverick steak ... must have come from a free ranging longhorn Texas steer that had been run 10 miles before slaughtered as was super tough - could hardly saw thru it with the steak knife. HEATHER IS AMAZING! Came for a family reunion and both nights Heather was our server. Both nights she went above and beyond for our very large group. Not once were we in need of anything, even though she appeared to be servicing the entire bar area. It is hard to find people who truly care about customer service these days, and she truly did and took pride in her position. Open airy Restaurant with very active and knowledgable staff. Food is good and reasonably priced for what you get, I got the pulled pork dinner with a salad and for a buck upgraded to asparagus. Pork was tender and flavorful, asparagus was good, salad is your stand affair and honey Mustard dressing was decent. My only complaint about the dinner is the very bland, dense Corn bread muffin/biscuit they give you on the plate, it was horrible and I would ask in not even be put on my plate. Happy hour was extremely well priced, my Rum and Cokes were $2.00 a piece. I would recommend this restaurant to everyone and all prices are within a reasonable range for what you get. read more

Stopped in for dinner and was a little taken aback by the prices. I didn't expect them to be as high here in Aberdeen. Overall the service was friendly albeit a little slow, I wasn't in a hurry so didn't mind. The pulled pork platter was pretty good. Nothing to wow you but had a nice flavor and the meat was tender. I also had a side salad with it that was nice but too much iceberg lettuce. I really wish iceberg didn't exist. The sweet potato fries were good but the little roll that came with the meal was pretty stale seeming. The whipped butter was nice and the BBQ sauce was very very sweet. They have a decent beer and cocktail selection. I would eat here again if I had too. Its connected to the Holiday Inn Express and Hampton Inn so I'm sure they get a lot of business that way. I ordered take-out by phone, and the girl said it would take 15 min. After arriving in the entrance, I was completely ignored by 2 girls at the counter who didn't look up once to help me. When they finally did, they said nothing to me! Since they were being rude, I eventually stopped a server walking by and asked where I could pick up my take-out meals. She told me at the bar. Waited 10 min to talk to the busy bartender, and he eventually left to get my meals. Twenty min later, he showed up. I paid. Total time waiting in Mavericks was over 45 min!! I got the ribeye there and it was not what I would expect from a so called steakhouse. The ribeye was poor in quality. Meat was tough and no cap on the ribeye. I explained my dissatisfaction for the steak yo my server Jasmine and she dismissed my concern and blew it off. I called the manager after I got to my hotel which is adjacent to the restaurant and explained my situation to him and it was basically the same response. In Aberdeen to visit son and wanted a steak. Ordered the "raspberry crush" specialty drink. I do not recommend. Just get yourself a regular pour or a beer. Then they have a steak and stone. Be aware that you are served a raw steak that you yourself are cooking on a hot lava stone. It may take longer to cook your food. I was expecting something different. It wasn't my cup of tea. Well well well, not that I ventured out for other options, Maverick's fed me dinner for two nights. First night I had the filet mignon which was small for the price but good and the second night, I got the brisket special which was three tiny strips of beef and was okay, there barbecue sauce made it so much better. The service is great and they have a wonderful bar with great bartenders. I certainly recommend any Yelper to check this place out, they have a decent menu and you will be satisfied with food and drink. Full bar! read more

It doesn't happen often that I give 5 stars. I try to be objective so that others will find value. I came in during dinner hours and sat at the bar. It was busy but the tag team of bar tenders quickly grabbed my drink and offered me a menu. I ordered the moo shoo, and ordered a steak for dinner. Along with the steak I was given a choice of 2 house made soups or a salad and a side which I ordered mashed potatoes. I ended up with a bacon potato soup which had the perfect thickness and had plentiful strips of bacon. It tasted great and I'd order that again for sure. My moo shoo was ...well, I've never had anything quite like it, but it was amazing. When choosing which restaurant gets my business, I often look for something very unique that makes them different from another place I could choose. What do you have that I can't get elsewhere. The moo shoo is that something very unique that makes an impression for sure. Contains grilled chicken, cream cheese, and Thai chile deep fried in an egg roll and placed next to a plum dipping sauce that is another thing that'd be hard to find somewhere else. The steak came out slightly under cooked. After cutting open, I was certain if I'd sent it back it would come back over cooked, so I settled for it how it was. It truly just needed about another minute, but it was close enough. I'd have to say next time, I won't get the rib eye, it had a lot of fat in it (guess that's what makes it tender). I'll pony up the extra dollar and get the filet mignon. The side of potatoes I ordered came hot and are def not a mix, it had chunks of potato in it. $20.99 for two tiny fillets of walleye topped with a rotten lemon, frozen then steamed broccoli flowerets and an extra dollar for a Caesar salad that was actually a tossed salad with Caesar dressing - NOT tossed at all, dressing on the side. I'm not afraid to spend money at a restaurant and will gladly do so for a great meal. This wasn't it. I gave it 2 stars only because the food was warm when it came out and the taste wasn't horrible. It was just bleah. No flavor, no seasoning. Molly the server was timid, almost wary of approaching customers. When I mentioned comments made in this review, she said she'd 'tell them'. Won't hold my breath on that. Sadly, I think this is one of the better restaurants from which locals have to choose. Even Culver's has a better walleye dinner at half the price. For the money, I've had better meals and service at Marlin's down the street. In fact, I'd recommend Marlin's - good food, good value! I had dinner and drinks here with friends recently while passing through Aberdeen on a road trip. I gotta say -- this place is awesome! First off, great selection of both tap and bottled beers, including some stuff I have never had before, which is cool, because I like to try unfamiliar beers. Further, someone mentioned that the Bloody Mary was good, so I tried one. Excellent. Another person at our table ordered a Bloody Mary made with bacon vodka, and it was also excellent. I love Bloody Marys, and I like them spicy, but a lot of places put too much horseradish in them for my taste buds to handle. Not so at Mavericks. Bloody was perfect. Hadn't eaten all day, so there was a lot of food coming. Apps: We shared the Spinach Artichoke dip and the Chislic. The dip was good and came with an array of toasted bread, but the Chislic was the real treat. I have never heard of this stuff before, but it sounded good in the menu description, so gave it a shot. Wow. Need to find a restaurant here in AZ that does this:). If you stop by Mavs, you gotta try it! Dinner: Have you ever heard of "Pork Wings"? I hadn't. Our server said they were new on the menu, and good, so I decided to order them. They are basically pork ribs, I think roasted and then flash fried, but the bone is cleanly exposed on one end of each rib so you can pick them up and eat them like wings, but without getting all messy. They were absolutely awesome! The meat was perfectly cooked, very tasty, and literally came so cleanly off the bone that there was nothing left on the bones at all when I was done. Honestly, while these things came with a really good bbq sauce on the side, the Pork Wings didn't really need it. The meat was seasoned perfectly. I realize I'm using a lot of "perfect" here. Can't help it. It's that good IMO. Service was good, attentive. Tons of TVs, but there's plenty of seating away from the TVs so you don't have to be in front of them if you don't want to. Also, they have a couple of video games and even friggen corn hole boards in the restaurant, so, played some corn hole before closing out for the night. I also have to add, we were there for at least 40 minutes after the restaurant closed. Not once did anyone say "we're closing", or ask us to wrap things up. They let us finish at our own pace and were perfectly polite about it. I think I even ordered a final drink after they had already closed, and they brought it right out. I noticed that there were also still several people at the bar. Mavericks would obviously prefer to pay it's employees a little extra for their time than cut off diners at 10pm. I imagine if we had been the only remaining patrons, it might have been different, but there were a good number of people still there enjoying themselves. I think this place is great. If I ever make it back to Aberdeen, I'll be eating at Mavericks again for sure.... read more

Was doing work with the regional Veteran's Administration. Aberdeen is one of America's little big cities and not too big. It is South Dakota where the views are vast and people are scarce. We asked around and Maverick's was the most frequently mentioned restaurant "where the locals go." Wow...Maverick's is old time, opened in 1947 with decor and quality of food as high as when it opened. Senior wait staff who have worked this bar, steak house, restaurant for many years. It is so western Dakotas that you almost expect to drive by buffalo grazing in the parks. So friendly and welcoming and there are usually a lot of people there to appreciate the attitude and atmosphere. Food is basic grub and portions generous. This is not elegant dining, but a place to eat meat and have a few drinks. Bar is super. Menu offers quite a variety, so it is more than beef steaks. Service is like mom coming by your table and I even called them "mom." Was well-received. Prices are reasonable and parking is right on the street. At night downtown Aberdeen pretty much rolls up the sidewalks, so you don't have far to walk from car to bar. I did not have any complaints with Maverick's and ate here three evenings so was certainly an out-of-town visitor but was quickly becoming a regular. Am surprised at some of the negative reviews. Never know, though. There is one other dining restaurant in Aberdeen which is more like a country club with more elegant decor and I went there also. But Maverick's spoke to me of the west, cowboys and hard working farmers and ranchers with hands stained with grease and the soil that they work with. It is the America of the past, limited technology and just practical shops and stores. No fru-fru cafes or boutiques. Real America, real Americans. How refreshing it is to be there. They have no idea what people mean by political correctness. Courtesy and respect are their normal. read more

This was a fun/easy place to eat we are staying at the hotel connected to Mavericks and it did not really disappoint. You walk in and it's like a saloon it's a fun/loud place if that's what you are into, lots of TV and seating! We got the appetizer sampler and it was great!! And the mussels were great also! I had the brisket sandwich, which tasted really good but it was VERY fatty. Which I like a little fat but this half my meat was basically fat which was somewhat disappointing. Other than that I don't have anything else to complain about the ranch fries were good and the cheesecake was great!! Would come back here if I were in town again. read more

And, we've been here numerous times in the past as we visit Aberdeen every fall to pheasant hunt, and, in the past we've had decent food and service. However, Tuesday was a different story. The staff was friendly but availability of steak and quality was another story. I ordered the porterhouse, not my go-to as I prefer a ribeye or prime rib and guess what, they were out of both. How can a steak house that is known for steak, IN CATTLE COUNTRY, be out of steak????? So, I settled and got the porterhouse, not just any porterhouse, but a $37 porter house that was so poorly cooked, so pithy looking, and so tough I could barely cut it with a knife. I ate a few bites and was done! The baked potato was TINY but the house salad was good. There were four of us and all had similar dinners. The meal and the quality of food was not even mediocre. Needless to say, we're done with this place and will try other places down the road. Sorry to be so critical, but it's the truth. Save your money and go somewhere else. read more

Well, when you're attending softball games it is very difficult to find decent eating establishments open and willing to serve you later at night. We found the perfect place. Maverick's.
