While wipers do wear out, failing inspection for the same item every single year is questionable. **Tires labeled "dry rotted" far too early: ** -On my Honda Civic, tires purchased in 2022 with only ~11,000 miles were deemed "dry rotted" and replaced in 2026. -On a second vehicle (Honda CR-V), tires were again described as "dry rotted" at replacement time, despite being regularly driven. While those had higher mileage and may have been due for replacement, the repeated use of "dry rot" as the explanation is concerning. **Major suspension work recommended but contradicted by another shop: ** During my most recent visit, I was advised that my vehicle needed struts and additional suspension work. I declined and took the car to a separate, reputable repair shop for a second opinion. After a full inspection, they found no issues requiring replacement and confirmed everything was in normal condition with no safety concerns. **Repeated or questionable services: ** I've also had rear shocks replaced twice (2020 and 2025) with relatively low mileage between, along with multiple flush services and add-ons that seem to be recommended frequently. Before around 2022, my visits here were straightforward and I trusted the guidance I received. Since then, nearly every inspection has come with multiple recommended repairs that feel inconsistent with the vehicle's condition and usage. To be clear, I understand that maintenance is necessary and I'm willing to pay for legitimate repairs. The concern is the consistency and accuracy of what's being recommended. When multiple items--from wipers to tires to suspension are repeatedly flagged in ways that don't align with typical wear, it becomes difficult to trust the advice being given. I would strongly encourage anyone visiting this location to seek a second opinion before approving repairs, especially for higher-cost items. I had a pleasant experience as a walk-in. Needed my tire checked out in a pinch and they went out of their way to take a look and resolve it on the spot. I made small talk with some friendly employees. Nice and attentive people work here, I recommend this Mavis on 110. read more

I went for an Inspection which should take 10 minutes I was here for 2 and half hours. Not a good experience.

To be honest dont even bother coming here, made a appointment online for a inspection just for them to call me and say they dont have a inspector and to dropnit off the next day. Just for me to come in the next day and all of a sudden they have overnight appointments and cancel my appointment. Front desk worker was being a complete ass to me too and was such a horrible interaction i didnt even bother arguing with the dude. Management should probably consider putting the front desk worker working 11am on 2/28/26 back into customer training. read more

UNETHICAL. Came in for a car inspection - car is a few years old and flawless. Saleswoman leaves to look at my car and, upon returning, informs me the car "won't pass inspection - all 4 tires have dry rot and will need to be replaced". This was absolute nonsense and a gambit to have me spend a lot of $$$ BEFORE inspection. I know the tires are fine and that inspections are recorded - it's illegal to falsify the report. I explained this and my disappointment and left. Mechanic comes out while I'm writing this, looks at my tires, and tells me they'll do the inspection and the car should PASS. I declined. I really feel bad for customers of this Mavis who are not automotive savvy. What if my elderly father had been convinced to replace 4 perfectly good tires BEFORE inspection? Not sure what now means at Mavis tire on route 110 in Farmingdale but when you walk in the door and ask if you can get oil change done now and you stress the importance of now. not sure how there is a miscommunication of between when I said now and the representative said now and he agreed to now, how is it in an hour later that I am still not done. all he had to say was, can you come back in an hour. Pretty pretty simple communication technique that seems to have been mistaken for that. I had nothing to do. have a GT86 slightly lowered nothing crazy, needed a quick and easy plug on a rear tire. Was refused service and told they wouldnt work on my car because its lowered they cant put it on a lift. Left and took it to a tire shop down the road and they plugged it for me without even lifting the car in less than 2 mins. Terrible service won't ever come here again even though i work 2 mins away. read more

Quick and easy. Brought the car in since the tire was leaking air. They quickly processed me and asked when I needed the car back. In a few hours they had called me back, told me about a nail in the tire and patched it with a plug. Price was very reasonable. read more

I came here before I got rid of my honda accord because at the time I didn't know I was going to trade it in and I was fixing a broken mirror. I came to Mavis because firestone wouldn't do the repair on an outside part and I had bought the replacement mirror through eBay. Mavis did it for me and I was so grateful they did. They had the car for a very minimal amount of time for the repair too. I appreciated the Mavis that day and I hope you do too! read more

I had a flat tire, so I came here to get my tire plugged. Came in the day and got my tire plugged an as soon as I got home, the tire went back to being flat. I called them to let them know my issue, and the guy on the phone was so rude and was saying that he couldn't help me because he had five other customers in front of him. he wasn't trying to listen to what I had to say. He was just trying to get me off of the phone just because he had five customers in front of him. While i was trying to explain what was going on he said to me "what do you want me to do? stop everything that I'm doing and come to your house to fix your tire?" I was just trying to find out if when they took off my tires if he properly checked if there was more than one hole and he didn't want to hear what I had to say. Liars and crooks. I would not use these words carelessly. My car inspection was overdue so I took it to this Mavis on Broadhollow Rd on a Saturday vs my regular mechanic who was closed. They told me the inspection FAILED b/c my rear brakes were totally shot. Gave me a whole story over the phone. Tried to sell me brakes and a brake flush. $450 with "specials" that I didn't know about. I said no thanks; I'll take it to my own guy. The manager called me back, all puzzled. My guy on Monday tells me the brakes are only HALF WORN! I also had this inspection/brake scam at the only other Mavis I have used. read more

The Mavis tire and repair store on route 110 was a very good experience I had a flat tire they took care of me immediately and they also found a second flat tire and informed me and also took care of that the men behind the counter were terrific the service Tech was wonderful and I would recommend this tire store and repair shop to anyone in the neighborhood it is worth going. read more

Went there Sunday afternoon around 3 pm because my tire was completely flat.i walked in and was helped right away by manager Brett. He had his technician will help me and look at my tire, i was hoping i didn't need a new tire,will accessed my needs and was able to plug the tire right away. This Mavis was once my go-to place for tires, brakes, alignment but no more. I'm not an easy customer but I also do not want to get ripped off. I was told in a failed inspection I needed front pads, and requested that we put front pads on the car and get an inspection. He said we don't do that and if we find something else during our inspection it must be fixed or we will not provide an inspection sticker. I admit it was not an easy situation. But the rep behind the counter handled it poorly and mentioned he didn't want the job. I was an excellent customer but now have to find a new place. read more

You be the judge. Went in because engine was hesitating. Error codes was random misfire. Estimate for 6 spark plugs, 6 coils and valve cover gasket was $1,250. After discussing with multiple mechanics I realized this was an extremely outrageous price and should be in the $600-$800 range. That's assuming I even needed to replace all 6 coils. After several uncomfortable conversations, they dropped the price $200. 2 stars only because the price was reduced to a less insulting amount. I still feel I was taken advantage of. Hi everyone. Here's a review of the worst place to get a simple tire change and alignment. During my time there they raced my 450hp Audi up and down the street two times for a "test drive" with two different mechanics and did so for over 15 min. I saw them do this as I stood by their little drag strip hearing my engine redline. When back they made comments among coworkers about the engine looking under the hood and gawking. (No need to open the hood on the alignment bay). Also they left wonderful scratches all over my rims. All blame was always deflected and a slight discount was given for a severe nick to a rim. When I went home and cleaned the tar off the rims with water, I come to find out that many long and deep scratches were all over the painted rims (original from Audi) from poor handling. I called the manager and understood my trouble but did nothing to resolve it. All were kind, but clearly just to keep me calm and blame me for damages. If you drive anything you care about avoid at all costs. They'll damage your vehicle all while taking it for a spirited joyride. No respect for customer property whatsoever. read more

Wow - What a great experience!! I had my car towed into Mavis for repair and inspection and was very happy with the service and professionalism I received from Brian, Anthony and Nick. The manager, Brian Scholl, was extremely knowledgeable about all things auto and really helped me understand what needed to be done on my car. He worked with me on the price and it was very clear to me that he genuinely enjoyed helping people!! Anthony and Nick also were very friendly and helpful. I picked up a nail in my tire and needed a repair quickly as I was headed away for the weekend. Courteous efficient counter staff went out to check for leaks and when they found the nail they took me in right away. The tire technician was friendly and reassuring telling me I would be out and done in 10 minutes. They did a great job quickly and I will be back when I need tires. read more

An hour or so later I get a call from them saying everything's fine but the wiper blades are a bit worn so they'll need replacing to pass the inspection, I'm thinking to myself "you can fail inspection due to wiper blades?" but I say ok knowing wiper blades cost ~$2 or in the $10 range if you want fancy RainX ones. They charged me $40! Yes, FORTY freakin dollars for wiper blades I kid you not (attached pic of my bill to this review.) If you need NYS inspection, take your car elsewhere. I can't even believe how lucky I was this morning to choose to come to the Farmingdale location of Mavis Tire. They let me in ten minutes earlier than the time of opening as a courtesy. That was not the only MVP treatment I received today. Not only were they sooooo kind and professional, but handled my problem beautifully as well. They removed a screw from my tire and repaired it in no time. From Carl, the guy who opened up the door early and welcomed me to Mavis Tire, Al, the guy who handles my case, and Anthony who did the repair work...MY EXPERIENCE WAS SUPER. This business establishment has my loyalty; it will be hard to go somewhere else when I need new tires as well. MAVIS DENTED MY CAR!!! Update---Still dealing with the headache 8 months later!!! Someone at Mavis finally admitted that they Dented my car after I asked to see the video for myself, so why am I'm stuck with a $650 bill for the car I had to rent while my car was being fixed. My insurance company told me that Mavis won't pay for my car rental. Original post-DENTED the hood of my car!!!! Told me they had to review their videos and after keeping me waiting told me that they didn't see anything with the angle of their cameras. When I asked if the could see that the hood was not dented when they drove it into the bay, they told me there was a glare on the video and couldn't see!!! I found a nail in my tire this afternoon and, even though the tire pressure hadn't gone down significantly, I kept thinking about it so I brought it in at 4pm on a Sunday (they close at 5. I know, terrible, I'm "that guy"). I told them I could bring it back tomorrow if they were too busy but Carl said it wasn't a problem and he would take care of it now. I was out of there by 4:30 pm. When shopping for tires online, Mavis has resorted to giving a price of the tire, THEN you have to click on a "Install at Mavis Quote" link and bam, there is an additional $19.95 "Installation Center and Overhead Stocking Fee" then you click on another link that explains it is for "Proper tire installation requires properly calibrated, advanced equipment; trained tire technicians; and the appropriate tools and supplies.". Mavis folks....that should be incorporated in the price of the tire....very misleading..... If it wasn't for me liking Fred, you'd have one less customer... read more

If you care about the appearance of your wheels, I'd stay away from this place. I dropped off my brand new car w/2,500 miles on it for set of 4 high performance all seasons ($800+) and they scratched all 4 wheels. I've absolutely babied this (my first new) car - it hasn't been in the cities nor ever been parallel parked, & I personally detailed the car once a week, so I know there was zero damage to the wheel which I told Carl at the time when dropping the car off. Long story short - they reimbursed me their cost for repairing 1 wheel ($75) and blamed other damages to the stiffness of the tires (yes, you read that correctly). They also told me that I wouldn't see the scratches on the inner side of the wheels once the brake dust got on it (dumbfounded). Rewind it a bit, they initially called me a liar when I told them the price I was quoted over the phone; I had to call their call center myself to prove to them (this is after them listening to the recordings and me waiting 40 minutes). I should've walked out then, but I gave them a chance since I've bought 2 sets of tires from them over the years w/my previous car. Spent $2000 on tires and struts. Tire pressure light has been on ever since. Been back twice in a week. First time I was told there was too much air in the tires. I shouldn't have put any in. Of course since the tires were 3 days old I never touched an air hose! Next time, a few days later the manager was telling me no way could the tires be defective. Nor could there be a valve problem. Had to be a sensor. I asked why is the passenger front tire looking half full. He was looking on the computer and telling me facts about my sensors. Unfortunately he was looking at the wrong type of car. Told me to come back in an hour. 4 hours later I got a ride home. The staff was nice and got my car in and out quickly. They didn't have the tires I wanted in stock so they gave me the next model up for the same price, which was great. My experience at the location was acceptable. After I left is when things headed south. I commute to Farmingdale from Centereach for work every day. As I was driving home, I felt a vibrating coming from the front end, which was getting worse as I drove more. Bear in mind, that I was traveling at speed on the Southern State Parkway. I pulled off the highway to a side street and found that all of the lug nuts on the left front wheel were loose. After tightening the lug nuts, I made my way home. When I arrived, I called them and told them what happened. They asked if I wanted to bring the car back, which I declined and they said they would "talk to the guy". When I pay for a service, I expect it to be rendered correctly. In this case it was not so I should not have to pay full price for partial service. After this, I would not trust Mavis Discount Tire to install tires on a bicycle. read more
