I'd say that my experience with Mavis at both this location and New Milford, CT have been pretty good. The crew knows what they're doing, the prices are on par and everything gets done in a timely manner. I think it's a nice feature that you can schedule an appointment ahead of time if you like to ensure that your vehicle will get in when need be. I have had no issues with anything while working for them. They've also brought to my attention a few items they felt (notice, i say they felt) I would want to get taken care of. I have experience working in an auto shop, so when they bring such an item to my attention, I ask if I can go out and they show me what they are talking about. They have no problem with this. I haven't had the Pawling crew perform any work on my vehicle yet, but I have had the New Milford location, and they did a fine job and their price point was reasonable for their service as well. Why do I come back?? Simple, a great price on oil changes and tire rotations. (well, you can't beat the price on a tire rotation if you purchase tires through mavis, b/c rotations are free for life). I started off giving these guys 3 stars, but with my research into prices of labor, and prices per tire, and the helpfulness of these guys, I'll bump it up a little. And by the way...they'll be slow if they're busy, but who wouldn't? And yes (this is because of other reviews I am reading) they are going to point out items that may be of concern to you - you don't have to buy if you don't want, BUT it is THEIR job and moral duty to point out items that could be possible safety issues - it is up to YOU to make the decision if it is something YOU want to fix - don't hate on a guy for trying to do their job! read more

Stay away. They fail on so many counts. Wildly overcharge for services (quoted $1400 for a brake job that was completed by another local shop for $750). We to have tire sensors installed, was again way overcharged, but when I went to leave, they started negotiating price with me. What is this, Let's Make A Deal? On a small repair? I decided to let them do it, because I went from being massively overcharged to only being overcharged. But hey, time is money, right? WRONG. Was told it would take an hour. It took 3 hours. Long periods where no mechanic was near my vehicle. The guy in charge of the mechanics has a nasty attitude too. Stay away. Then my wife goes in with a nail in a tire. No big deal. They tell her it is not fixable; she needs to buy a new tire. I smell manure. I go in with the same tire the next day, and they plug it no problem. Stay away. You have been warned. read more

Went in to get my front brakes replaced last summer after changing my rear brakes a few months prior. My boyfriend noticed that my rotors seemed warped when driving my car and I reassured him that everything was new. I pulled out my receipt from the service and it states "Cust states she need FRONT brakes", and the receipt then goes on to show all the charges for REAR brake pads, REAR rotors, and REAR rotors. So they basically changed my already new brakes and left me driving on my old front brakes, further warping my rotors. Glad I paid $642! I realize I should have analyzed the receipt when I left, but sometimes you just expect simple jobs to be done correctly especially when you're paying hundreds of dollars in labor fees. read more

Customer service is non existent. I stood in front of a worker who was on the phone for ten minutes. Any kind of acknowledgement would have been appreciated. None. He then gets off the phone and walks away. Still nothing. Another man came in and asked what I needed and I told him I made an online reservation on 8/22 for 8/25 at 5pm. It was cancelled at 3pm due to their lift not working. Weird because they have seven. I made another reservation for 8/26 for 5pm. I was told that reservation would not be honored because the guy that does inspections is working on brakes. Okay. He said that the online reservation system does not work and I should have called to double check availability. Why? That is the whole purpose of an online reservation system. He then started yelling that he would get rid of the entire system because it's crap and that I should come back tomorrow. No thanks. They lied about the lifts the day before and now they're unavailable to accommodate a reservation that their system accepted. Do yourself a favor and GO somewhere else... read more

I've been here a number of times and have had very mixed experiences. I believe management changed at some point in the last 2-3 years, so that may be a part of it. I will not be going back to this location if I can avoid it. Pros: - Sometimes the staff at the desk is friendly and helpful Cons: - Had an oil change done and when they closed the hood, the support arm was not placed back in its bracket. I heard a knocking noise and opened the hood to discover that the support arm had fallen down next to the radiator and was in contact with the fan. - Had struts installed on my (white) car and it came out _covered_ in greasy hand/fingerprints. I'm not generally fussy about this sort of thing but there wasn't even an attempt to clean them up. I also made a point of tipping the mechanic for this job and he did not say thank you or really even acknowledge the gesture. - As part of the strut job, they had to do a brake job. I'm not entirely sure why but whatever -- I know this work doesn't happen in a vacuum. Needless to say, this added time and costs to the job. I was told that an apprentice/intern/whatever helped with the brake job and, upon leaving, the brake pedal began going almost to the floor. I came back the following day (Saturday) and was told that they didn't have anyone in who was capable of even looking at the car. (If not, then why are you open?) So, I drove to the Poughkeepsie location (Freedom Plains Rd.) and they saw me immediately, determined that the brakes had not been properly bled and fixed them without charge. read more

I have been going to Mavis in Pawling, NY for 20 years for tires, oil changes and brakes. My front brakes were chirping, so I went there for new pads. They recommended new callipers and brake lines in the front as I had stated that the front passenger side had seized previously. They called me and recommended I replace the rear passenger calliper as the brakes felt "squishy". I agreed to all recommended repairs and paid when done. I started my car to leave and the brake pedal went straight to the floor. When I told the manager, he said it must be the master cylinder and to take it to a garage near by. He drove my car with me in it to the garage, pumping the brakes to stop. The garage determined that the rear passenger brake line wasn't tightened to the calliper, allowing fluid to leak and air to enter the line. $125 to diagnose the problem, tighten the line, add fluid and bleed the line. I asked Mavis to refund the $125 from the over $1,400 I had paid them and they have yet to respond. I am a little disappointed. read more

Took my car up to them for a brake line repair and eventually found out that the mechanic would not perform the repair and was told they would need to tow it at there expense to Carmel and as of 1230 Friday they still are fudging around with I'd. they said they need to talk to the general service manager but of could he has and emergency and they can't get in touch with him. I was quoted on the phone and also was told the sensors I needed to work with their machine. I went out and purchased the ones that would work for them even though I already had a set. I was able to stop in Mavis Discount Tires at 44 Route 22, Pawling, NY, as I purchased these tires recently at Mavis Discount Tires in Mount Kisco, NY for my 81 year old mother's 2018 Honda CR-V LX. I explained to Steven that we were on a roadtrip and I noticed the tire sensor light came on and asked if he would be able to have someone take a look. He asked If i would be leaving the car and I told him, "No, we are on a toad trip to CT now, and I'm with my Mother." He responded with, "Well, it will be quite a while!" Simple brake job on my husbands and a tire replacement has taken weeks to complete due to on going issues and it's STILL not resolved. Took an entire weekend w no phone call to say it's ready the first time, only to have the van making noises immediately after, took DAYS to get back in and STILL no calls made when ready and never even put the tire on. Just went in to fix my rear end tire. Usually it takes about an hour or more. But they have a new team in as of 12/10/22 and they are IMPECCABLE and completely PROFESSIONAL AND RELIABLE. I was greeted by the two front desk agents and mechanic who immediately took the tire from me and went to work while also juggling his other responsibilities. I was out of there within an hour with my tire. The two front desk people were able to get me in next week for an inspection while I waited. Usually this Mavis is plagued with bad reviews but I hope that people can GIVE THIS BRAND NEW TEAM A CHANCE. The customer service is 10/10 now and the mechanics are GENUINE AND TIMELY. Where to start...so I walk in and need 4 tires. Sales person tells me it will be an hour to 2 hrs..to be sure just come after 2hrs and it will be done he promises, only one car ahead of me. I arrange a ride and come back in 4 hrs having to get a taxi cause I couldn't find a ride. I walk past my car and my snow tires are still on my car. I'm obviously not happy. I walk in and say is there a reason you haven't touched my car, the salesman starts rummaging through papers and says ow your are next..I gave them 2 extra hours and replanned my day to allow for this..and they couldn't even keep track of someone willing to spend 700 bucks? I came here about a year ago to swap my wheels. I had two sets - winter and summer tires. both on their own set of rims. Literally all that had to happen was put the car on the lift, remove all 4 wheels, and put on the other set of 4 wheels. I could have done it myself but it was so hot I didn't want to. I waited 45 minutes... my car sat as they waited for the late appointment. My job was relatively quick (fix a slow leak in one tire.) I got frustrated watching NOTHING happen. Seriously, don't waste your time. I came by with my car on Monday for an oil change, they said call tomorrow because they hadn't had their oil drum drained. Called Tuesday, they said the oils drum was drained but now they had no oil for the cars and to call back Wednesday. Called Wednesday, they said the oil drum was drained and they had oil and to come in. An hour later I'm on my way there and someone else for Mavis calls me and said they couldn't see me because they hadn't had their oils drum drained. Knowing I asked this exact question this morning and was told it was drained by the other guy, I asked this guy "so you're telling me it was drained since Monday?" He said that was correct and to come back after 12. I arrived at 12:30 and while there was only 1 other person waiting, my car didn't even get taken into the garage until 1:26. read more

I dropped off a punctured tire for them to fix, and after a week of waiting they told me they wouldn't replace a single tire, only all 4, despite having told me the opposite on the phone in the first place. When I went to pick my tire back up to take it elsewhere, they kept me waiting for over 2 hours, and were incredibly rude. A little on the expensive side. I think the labor last time I checked was 82.00 an hour. They are helpful and friendly and they have free tire rotations of you buy your tires from them. They do NOT do tune ups; but they do perform fluid changes and usually service is fast when a reservation is made. They have office cubes to work in but no wi-fi. If they had wi-fi this place would rock. Do your self a favor and of your are waiting for an hour or so for your car and you need to get work done. Arrived at 8:10 and waited in the sitting area for 15 minutes before the only guy working was free and at the front counter. I told him I was there for an inspection appointment and he stared at me blankly for a moment before saying, oh wow, I don't think I've seen our inspector yet today I will have to call him, give me a few minutes - he returns to tell me that the inspector is about 3 hours away and to come back in around noon if I didn't want to hang out.... Ridiculous and terrible customer service. Why not call someone if you're not going to honor their appointment. I write this from inside the store as I wait because of my dissatisfaction. A great friend of mine bought me a set of tires, gave me the receipt and said, go to the store with the receipt and they will put the tires on for you. Awesome! I go there Friday at 5:30, they said we close at six come back tomorrow, we need an hour. Ok, I get it. I came back Friday at 3:30, they said come back tomorrow morning at nine cause we close at 5 and they have two hours worth of cars left. That is annoying. I come in Sunday morning at 9:15. The garage is full of cars 15 mins after they open, I assume from the last night. They proceed to hem and haw about the fact that the guy who sold the tires to my buddy shouldn't have done that. But they agreed to do the job. Ok... I go sit down and then overhear the mechanic tell the cashier that they aren't going to make any money on the gift certificate job. I later ask if mechanics get commission on tire jobs and he says no. Ok... Then how are they not making money in this? Maybe the guy who made the deal made a mistake. If so... good on them. I hope that he actually puts the lug nuts on because I pick up the same vibe as I do when at a restaurant with a waiter who you KNOW is about to spit in your food even though your pretty nice to them. Another customer with a Dual-ly Ford Pickup asks if they rotated the tires and two workers said absolutely not, you can't rotate them. Ok... Maybe I'm an idiot but a quick Google search screams yes, rotate your dually tires... They put the tires on in 1 hour 20 minutes. The staff seem knowledgeable but overly self assured.
