I just had my car inspected. Mark, the service representative had my car in and out within 30 Minutes. Got my car towed from our house (well in Taconic and another company brought it home) my insurance said that Chris Automotive is affiliated with them. Called them after few minutes their tow truck came and took our car. Happened afternoon so they are almost closing. Next day, Billy called and said whats the problem with our car. It was transmission and a whooping $$$$! The level of communication that the people from Chris was impeccable, they call almost daily to give updates. Fast forward, parts was delayed and we received our car a few days before it turned a month. (Can you imagine how much we paid for rental?!) Anyway, they gave us a very good discount. I can't even put words how everything went. So you imagine the crazy stress we had experienced?! I initially thought Chris's Automotive was a decent choice but I became aware that the work the shop indicated they completed was fabricated. Without going into specifics, I'll offer my review and recommendations. One of my vehicles had a fairly difficult issue to solve. I was completely aware that it would probably require a little trial and error to resolve. After being at Chris's for one week they returned my car and stated they replaced several expensive parts but the issue still existed. Great, thanks, I'll give someone else a chance. I scheduled an appointment at another location in hopes they'd have better luck. To my disappointment I learned that the work Chris's charged me for was never done. The mechanic from the 2nd location showed me the original parts and the abysmal workmanship that was performed. I was charged a whole lot of money for work that never occurred. Due to being a professional at his craft, the other mechanic was able to diagnose the problem and fix it to my satisfaction. I understand trying to diagnose a difficult problem but don't tell me you've exhausted all options when it was evident they were not. read more

Would not recommend And will not be using again. We initially used Chris's to get my son's car inspected which it failed inspection and needed roughly $2300 in work (which we paid and had them fix). Less than a few months later my son complained of intermittent vibration which shook his car. We too it back to Chris's and were given another long list of repairs which were over $2,000. I told them I wanted to take the car to another place for another opinion. I paid the evaluation fee. This 2nd place said all the things that were mentioned were not currently needed. what was wrong with car was something completely different and $1,000. We used the 2nd place and have had no issue with the car since. When I told Chris's what had happened they were defensive and told me to bring the car in and they would put it "up" and show me what they were looking at (This was the receptionist I am assuming as she answered the phone and kept putting me on hold). I am disappointed by the experience and will not be using or recommending Chris's in the future. read more

They were great throughout my unfortunate issues with my car, from the tow guy grabbing the keys and telling me to get to where I needed and they would handle the rest, to everybody I spoke 9n the phone with and met when I cleaned out my car because it was totaled by insurance. A really nice guy -- who may or may not have been Chris -- came and rescued me when I popped a tire on a Sunday and literally no other auto shop was open for miles and miles. He was clearly a pro and (1) was able to explain why the tire had popped (misalignment + wear on the inside of tire where it was hidden from view) + (2) was totally nice about me peering avidly over his shoulder as he removed the spare from beneath the car, pressurized the spare, jacked up the car, and did his thing with finesse. I feel like a doofus for not having the essential life skill of knowing how to change a tire, but he was nice enough to talk me through details and gave me tips on how to avoid killing myself in case I need to do this in the future. Avoid this place, they don't know what they are doing!!! Brought my car for inspection and received a call it failed for having windshield tints. Considering I know my car (which had a perfectly fine inspection the year prior) does not have any tints beyond factory settings, I asked what the tint meter reading was so I knew exactly why it failed. They refused to provide the reading, claiming '0 tint is allowed in NY' which is incorrect. When my husband tried explaining per the DMV website only 70% of light has to pass through he was rudely dismissed and told he was wrong (he wasn't). I tried contacting the shop, even sending a link from the official DMV website showing the correct guidelines and it went unanswered. Conveniently, they had no problem though passing me if I paid extra to have these nonexistent tints removed. I assume they never used a meter to check the tint, because even the receptionist was surprised to not see a % reading on the file, and just looked at the windshield and made a guess. So it failed under false pretenses and was incorrectly reported to the state and I still had to pay. I've been bringing my cars here since I moved up to the area so I am extremely disappointed with the unprofessionalism of how a simple inspection was handled and even after trying to get this problem solved they refused to answer. Luckily I brought it somewhere else where it passed with no problem (again, because there is NO tint to begin with) and they said 'wherever you went the first time just didn't feel like doing their job'. Moral of the story: there are plenty of places in the area, go somewhere else. read more

Fantastic service/experience at Chris' this past week. My car broke down on the side of the road and I am not from the area. They were able to not only fit it in unannounced that day after towing us in, but also get me a new alternator and serviced before the day was done. I wasn't around at the time they finished, so they were able to coordinate me getting the keys afterhours. They went above and beyond to tow and repair my brand new 2024 Honda CRV Hybrid that hit a red tailed hawk enroute from VT to FL. The car was fully loaded with vacation items including 2 bikes. They took care to store the bikes overnight inside the shop for safekeeping while we rented a car and drove back to VT 4.5 hrs to get another car to take to FL. We were in FL a month and were able to pick up the repaired vehicle on the way back up to VT. The repairs took a few weeks because of parts needed. Toni and asst were able to coordinate all with insurance adjuster seamlessly. Could not ask for better customer service, communication, and quality work. read more

I have never heard of an inspection taking one hour. usually it's only 20 25 minutes tops and they failed me for something so minor after a 45 minute inspection they said there was slight moisture near my brakes. And I asked what it could be? They said in reality it really could be anything but because the possibility exists that there MIGHT be a leakage we have to fail you. I'm new in town and My neighbors who have been here over 75 years told me that this automotive center will intentionally fail you to send you to their friend who is an auto mechanic and they can both profit off of the failure. Poor quality service, AND mechanical work. went here for an inspection and was FAILED for the same exact thing that I had already fixed two weeks ago!!! so naturally I brought it to the mechanic who looked it over and said everything was fine and was able to pass it for the inspection. UNREAL Then they had the audacity to say that it would be an additional $10 for "reinspection" when the car didnt even fail inspection in any other shop !!!! For the past 5 months I have tried to find an auto shop that could fix my 2018 Audi SUV most would not even look at it let alone try and fix it. That's when I found Chris' Automotive Center. Bobby the shop manager, was both professional an extremely knowledgeable and was constantly giving me updates and taking the time to explain every step of the way to fixing my car. We were stranded an hour from home with 2 babies in the car on a Saturday night because a mechanic at a national oil change chain had damaged our oil filter doing a routine oil change the previous day and the car was leaking oil. Thankfully we drove past the shop and saw some bays open. Chris the owner took pity and was willing to help us even though the shop was officially closed. Experience: We purchased a used car that required immediate and repeated service and repair within one month of buying. Concern: It seems shady that they sell a car, as a business that knows cars, then reaps the benefit of its continuous repairs. I question their integrity. Reputation: Be aware because this was a costly error. We trusted their reputation and they didn't live up to it. They should never have sold a car in that condition. Customer Service: When I called to discuss this, I was spoken over, insulted, and disregarded. Workmanship: each repair requires a follow up repair to correct an incomplete job. when we held them to the job we paid for we were met with frustration and disrespect from the sales and mechanics. The front end staff is polite. Overall, you have a lot of options for mechanics and places to buy cars- I advise you try somewhere else. read more

I brought my 2016 vehicle to Chris' for my annual NY State inspection. I was told it failed inspection because my wipers needed to replaced. I had them replaced to receive my passing inspection and a month later, while driving home in the rain, both of the newly installed wipers fly off my car. Thankfully, I wasn't far from home and was able to make it back with getting into an accident, but now I have to deal with a scratched windshield from the bladeless wiper arms scraping against the windshield. I honestly don't know if the wrong blade model for my vehicle were installed or if it was bad workmanship and they were installed incorrectly (I can't even verify since the blades are now gone), but either way, this was a horrible experience that could have ended up much differently and very badly. read more

I made an appt for a Photo inspection i was told by christie or christina that it would take about 30 minutes. I came to the appt greeted the disgruntled woman at the front she had a bad attitude already i can see. 1:15 to 1:45 my vehicle wasn't even looked at what was the point to make an appt if your backed up? (walk ins had a better chance........this is the only place that takes forever for an inspection when it only takes 5-10 why do you have to drive my car into a bay? who ever works the front is not pleasant to say the least I had to leave with nothing done. There is literally no one better in Hudson Valley to trust your car too. I have several cars some quite high end and I trust Chris's to work on them all. They just finished some amazing upgrades to my F150 Raptor. The level of knowledge, tradesman-ship and dedication that the team brings is beyond reproach. I work in the city so wasn't able to get to the shop to pick it up so they had it dropped at my house! I worked with John on the truck and he is an amazing guy, he bent over backwards to get this all done for me. We had multiple issues with getting parts to John from the vendors i had chosen but he made it work. I'm not always able to phone the shop so John did nearly everything on email for me even though I know that means more work for him. And Toni on the front desk is always brilliant to deal with. I've given these guys a few chances and every time they have tried to charge me for things i did not want. The last straw was this week when my wife needed an inspection for a brand new car purchased out of state. This is regulated to a $10 charge. These crooks claimed it needed a full inspection including taking the "tires" off (I assumed they meant wheels.) I was having issues with my car at high speeds. I am not a mechanic, but thought it needed an alignment and balancing. Chris's asked what was wrong and did the service without letting me know the issue would not be fixed afterwards. My wheels were not circular and I needed a new set. They neglected to let me know this and had no issue charging me much higher prices than any place I've ever brought my car to without actually fixing the issue with my car. My appointment was for 9 a.m. I got there a little early.Checked in at the front counter with a very pleasant young lady.I sat in a very nice waiting area (coffee,tv and wifi) My car was being looked at by 8:40. Not that I was in a hurry but by 9:15 my car was done.As I exited there was another woman also working at the counter who was also very pleasant.
