I had an extremely positive experience at Mavis Discount Tire (I think formerly Rocky Point Tire). The locals (my father in-law) recommend this place highly and I was not disappointed. They cleaned up a tire for me that looked like it had been damaged in a fender bender. After 15 minutes of work, they announced the tire was clean and in great shape. It needed some 'beading" but not a new tire. And there was no charge. I did give the worker a tip and left very satisfied. Obviously I can't speak for the prices, but the people working at Mavis seem hard working, honest, and easy to work with. Give them a try. read more

I had all 4 brakes and tires replaced on my car. The work took a really long time and was done poorly. 1st problem- one of the tires wasn't balanced properly and the car shook bad over 50mph. Had to bring it back to have the one tire rebalanced 2nd problem 2nd problem- the brakes squeaked terribly during slowing and stopping below 25mph. I brought the car back and explained the problem. It took them the entire day to check out the car and they told me there were no issues. I told them that was not satisfactory and that I wanted the brakes replaced under warranty. They agreed and said that I needed to leave my car another day and that it would be done "first thing next morning". They kept my car for the entire next day and said they replaced the rotors and pads under warranty. Guess what? The supposedly new brakes also squeal horribly and were probably not fixed. So all in all, my car spent a total of 4 days in this shop and it took 3 visits have a simple tire and brake job done which is still not done properly. This places does shoddy work, is really slow and bad at communicating with their customers. The shop and waiting room is a completely run down and dirty dump of a place. I will NEVER go back here and I wouldn't recommend anyone go here. I wish I could give negative stars. read more

This is by far the worst tire store I've ever been to. I use Mavis for years ,for both of my cars and only use Mavis, but I usually go to the one in Mt Sinai,NY . Yesterday I went to the Rocky Point Mavis because it's closer. I had a screw in my tire and I have insurance on my tire but the guy there didn't want to plug it because it was to close to the edge. He told me I had to buy a whole new tire for $200 which I knew was not case. The guy try to take advantage of me because I am a woman. I am disappointed with this company. I took it down the road to Mount Sinai tire, where the guy fixed it in 10 minutes. He said it could definitely get plugged. I will never use Mavis again!!! Stay away from Rocky Point! read more

Three years ago, I went to this Mavis for new tires and was told that I needed to do a full break job, replacing the rotors and brake pads which I did. Recently, I noticed the tires were starting to look like they needed to be replaced, so I called this location to confirm when I had last been there. They confirmed the work done in March 2023, and that the mileage on the car at that time was 37,000 miles. I do not put a lot of miles on this car, and I do not have a commute because I work from home. The current mileage is 63,000 miles . So in three years, I only put 26,000 miles on the car,the tires and the full brake job. When I went last week for tires, they told me that my brakes were fine, but confirmed I would need new tires. They then advised that in order to install new tires, I would also need to replace all of the bolts on each tire, as the lug bolts had swelled, and once were removed, would not be able to be put back on. The charge per bolt was $15, adding up to an additional $300!!! I decided not to proceed at that time and instead purchased the replacement bolts online for a total of $36 and I planned to return to Mavis to get the tires done. Yesterday, I noticed some significant grinding noises so I brought it to a mechanic. The mechanic advised that I needed new rotors and brake pads again and that it appears that they had simply put new pads on the original rotors. I paid nearly $1300 to get tires, break pads and rotors in March 2023 and Mavis apparently didn't replace the rotors then!!!! Plus the tires are shot. Additionally, Mavis told me my brakes were fine when I was there last week!!! The customer service is also terrible. I made an appointment for 8 AM. I arrived a few minutes early. There were no other cars there. They told me they were bringing my car in. So I waited 40 minutes in the waiting room, when someone came in and told me that they were just bringing my car in at that time! I waited another 30 minutes for them to tell me that they couldn't take the bolts off. Spent a total of two hours waiting there before they told me how much everything would cost, and that the bolts would need to be ordered. I'm not sure what the point of an appointment at an empty shop is if it takes that long to even pull my car in. This place is a scam and they do not care about what sort of work they do. There is no way for me to fight them on this because it's been three years and it technically is a wearable part. But I trust my mechanic when they say there's no way that the rotors were replaced at that time. I will never go back to this location or any Mavis tire. Spend the extra money elsewhere because you will have to pay more to fix their mistakes and lies. I should have trusted all the other reviews. read more

Absolutely horrible place. I've been a customer since 2021, two older gentleman were running the place, very professional, friendly & honest. They are gone, along with the old staff & there's a woman who is managing it & she's just awful. I bought 4 new tires less than a year ago, warranty on all 4. One of them was patched a few months ago by them & this past weekend i got a nail. The AAA guy found my nail & said the patch was a shabby mess. When I brought it in the guy told me that someone did a bad job patching it, not realizing it was their patch job. He quickly backpedaled his statement, saying sometimes patches give...??? Then he said he would fix the patch, no charge. I asked what about the nail? He said what nail?? They didn't even look at my tire!! Then they proceeded to tell me that I needed a new tire, which was less than a year old less than 3k miles on it, and that my warranty was not good because the tread was at a 4!! The manager said it was at a 4 & one of her workers told me it was at a 7...??? They didn't even honor my warranty, made me pay for a new tire on a WARRANTY tire that I purchased less than a year ago with a tread of 7. When they told the manager that I had a warranty she let out a huge sigh of distress & I knew that she was going to be dishonest. She is very crude, always cursing & just not professional or friendly. She & her employees were talking about secret code faces to give each other when talking about customers, really??? I miss the other guys who were running the business. I will definitely not return & will let as many people know as possible to stay away. I was riding my bike and didn't realize my tires were so low I could barely pedal. The air hose was frozen so the attendant took the time to full them and to make sure they were filled the right amount. Horrible experience. Had an 8:00am appointment for an oil change. Upon arrival they said it was take an hour - hour and a half. Not sure why an oil change would take that long but I waited. After an hour-15, I saw my car still hadn't gone inside. I asked when it would be finished and they said hopefully by noon. When did it change and was anyone going to let me know? The woman up front seemed to be in over her head and was pretty unprofessional. The car wasn't ready till 1:00 for an oil change at an 8:00 appointment. Their excuse was that they were very busy. I have never written a bad review before. The guys were good but it took forever. Also, the worst part was that they jacked up the price of each tire by double of what was list elsewhere (I looked a five places). I don't know what the markup is on a tire but half or more is NOT right. Discount tire? Where's the discount? Came in this morning at 9:40AM for my 10AM appointment for an emergency tire patch service. I was greeted by a younger gentleman who informed me despite my appointment, I'd be looking at an hour and a half wait time for my tire to be patched. He then gets on the desk phone and begins speaking to his friend about the Knicks game, cursing out loud in front of several customers. Then, after speaking to manager about my tire she states she will provide a free service if I leave a google review. I oblige, leaving a positive google review following the service. Upon leaving, the tire seemed fine, PSI was normal. Following leaving work the same night, the same exact tire is flat in my work parking lot approximately 65 miles from home. The staff Is extremely unprofessional and clearly not honest, nor do they care about helping customers, but only helping themselves. Will never go back! Michael helped me with a slow leak in my rear tire. There was a wait time of what I thought was to be about two or more hours. He was so accommodating because he knew I was going to wait that he immediately had one of his tech technicians pull the car around back and diagnose the issue. It was a nail in the rear tire! Mavis, dropped the car at 8 AM on a Saturday was told a couple of hours and they would call my cell never heard from them all day which was fine but did at least expect an update, called them Sunday and was told oh they tried my cell phone and it went straight to voicemail, sure in any event they said they never got to it and it would be done that Sunday, well guess what my cell did work when they called and asked for payment over the phone I picked the car up brakes are fine and asked to make an appointment an inspection, I did for an 8AM time when I got there they asked if I was dropping the car I said no how long does an inspection take he said oh about 2 hours, really, the garage and parking lot were empty I left but their customer service sucks read more

In a world where customer service and employee effort are at an all time low Mavis in Rocky Point continues to impress with their professionalism and how they treat their customer.Today I went in and spoke to Michael at the front desk. He was friendly courteous and helpful. This is just the latest example of Micheal and Brad and honestly the whole staff being beyond helpful and nice. The mechanics are kind and friendly and explain everything to you so you can understand. For someone who know less than nothing about cars that is greatly appreciated. Charged for a full alignment on an AWD car, only did front wheel alignment and didn't provide a print out to verify any work was done. Tech went on lunch so no answers or help. Was also told that shop does not do camber adjustments with factory specs on alignment sheet. 10/10 do not recommend. read more

I'm horrified that so many people have had such poor experiences at the Rocky Point Mavis. I, on the other hand have had great experiences. Just yesterday I needed 4 new tires( my old ones were worn and sad looking). Brad, the store manager helped me to pick out four new tires which I'm completely happy with. And they were sixty dollars per tire less expensive than the ones I had originally picked. That savings made me very happy. Brad told me with the new tires and the other work I had requested, it would take at least two hours to complete. I'm waiting and the time was ok with me. It took an hour and forty five minutes and I was gone. But as I drove away my front tires were rubbing against the body of the car. Not good. I pulled back in and Brad came outside eask what was wrong. He tried the same ti had just done and heard the same noise too. He pulled out his mechanic and they discovered that a under engine shield was missing a screw, fixed it and I drove away happy. My new tires are Michelin all weather. They ride very nicely and go very low road noise. Ask for Brad. read more

I came to them to get 4 new tires, an inspection and a few other small things. I came to pick up my car and pay the $1,200 tab with no issues only to find my rims completely destroyed. The manager was rude, smug and said there is nothing he will do to about it. Did not even apologize - he was an awful human being and I left in tears. I am horrified about how this is possible and how unprofessional they are. Please do NOT trust them with your vehicles. Terrible place, do not go there. Made an appointment for 8am Wednesday in person with the man working the desk on Sunday, was told they would get me in first thing. Told him I would see them Wednesday at 8am after getting the pricing. My wife calls them to confirm the appointment and she gets yelled at by the man working the desk today, Tuesday, telling her we never made an appointment specifically for that time. I call and he gets belligerant almost immediately when he realizes I am calling for the same appointment. Absolutely horrible! If you're reading this avoid this place at all costs! Frank at the front is truly a horror to work with. Came in and explained I needed two tires patched. Called me the next day said one could be repaired and one had to be replaced. Brought the car home and the patched tire is still leaking, so I bring it back. Frank says they never did any work on the supposedly patched tire and now suddenly it can't be fixed. All he can do is replace the tire. Brought it to another tire shop who actually wanted to help me. These guys don't want to patch a tire, that much is clear. They'll only sell you a new tire because patching it is apparently a waste of their time. Absolutely disgusted by the fact that my car reeks of cigarette smoke after getting an inspection. Bill screamed in my face when I asked for an air freshener to combat the smell in my car. Additionally, they scammed me of a $70 inspection even when I declined the need for new wipers. Was with my friend when she dropped off her car for an inspection and told them we will be back later to pick it up. Was surprised to get a call from them stating it failed due to worn rear brakes. I had just checked all the brakes 2 weeks prior and decided not to replace them even though I had a new replacement set ready to be installed. We left there with a failed inspection. When I took the brake pads off the rear I found that one had been intentionally damaged with, what I believe, a bench grinder or something similar. This was intentionally done so they could show the female auto owner that the brakes were worn down. This was done so they could charge a female for a brake job that she did not need. I brought the ground down parts back to the manager on duty and he tried to explain his way around the fact that they were intentionally damaging parts and then putting them back on the car and allowing the car to be driven away like that. Please check the photos I attached and you will certainly agree that these brakes were ground down to cause the inspection to fail. This is despicable. I recommend NOT using this shop for anything. read more

This place is horrible. I once had a rough experience here and gave them the benefit of the doubt, that and the fact that they are conveniently located close to my house is what made me come back. What a bad idea. I called ahead to advise I had a tire with 2 nails in it that needs repair. The representative said ok great I will open a ticket for you ahead of time, it will take 2 hours to get this fixed. No problem. I drive over and drag the tire in the shop. This is when it gets rough. The white-haired man at the counter (dont remember his name) says "Yes?". Wow what a great way to great a customer! I told him I called ahead and have a tire that needs fixing. He responds "Those people are upstairs, whats the issue?" I explain that I have a tire with 2 nails in it that needs fixing. "We don't do 2 nails". I tried to explain that the representative on the phone told me to bring it in and you can fix it. He says "Nope, we cannot, sorry buddy". I then call the Mavis phone line back and get a bunch of fake apologizes trying to explain to the representative that he wasted my time and should have told me they cannot repair a tire with 2 nails in it. Never again. I can't tell who was more incoherent the guy at the desk or the guy on the phone. They clearly were both on different pages. They will lie and tell you they are in the rocky point store now, but as the desk will confrim they "just say that, not customer calls or appointments come direct to the Location" word for word. RP Mavis will not honor appointments made and you will leave your car for a day only to be told, sorry couldnt get to it. It has been twice now. I needed NYS inspection done and called the place. Made an appointment, specifically asked if they could do it while I'm waiting and they said yes. I come in and they say it can only be done in a few hours since there're people before me. When I mentioned I have an appointment the guy said they don't do appointments! I said I was told they can do it while I'm waiting he said he doesn't care. I don't know how they can stay in business with this attitude... very upset with the wasted morning, ruined plans, and having to find a different place to get it done. read more

I will never take my business to this company ever again. I went in for a simple oil change that ended up with me taking my car to the dealership with over $1000 worth of damage. They stripped my oil tank with a temporary plug that they jammed in. I had a huge oil leak that almost broke my engine. Then bringing the bill from the dealership back to them, they denied touching anything and refused to compensate me with any money back. Do not ever go to this company for anything, the customer service is terrible as they avoided getting in contact with us from their "boss". They are rude and disrespectful, with careless work. Worst service ever thought I would give this Place a second chance. I've been coming here for 2 years now. Last time I came had a flat tire in there parking lot 2 hours before closing and the guy told me they would be closing soon and couldn't help me. So I filled up my tire and went home. Came back next day to have it repaired waited an hour and a half for them to just look at the nail in my tire tread and say that they can't fix it has to be patched from inside I said ok and left. Went to discount tire in port Jeff they fixed it in ten minutes. Then today wanted to drop my car off for an oil change and tire rotation and they told me I would have to leave it over night until tomorrow afternoon some time.
