Food....terrible... fish n chips but subbed fries for hand breaded onion rings for up charge of 1.99 of an already 15.99 meal. Supposed to get 3pcs of fish got 2. Onion rings were ice cold breading falling off and in a big clump ...asked for a replacement she brought out 4 tiny hot ones ....what??? Server agreed the onion rings were bad but did not offer any alternative. I did ask to remove the upcharge which she did. Terrible service. Terrible food. Don't waste your time or money. After taking the children to an Easter Egg Hunt, I decided to drive to Lancaster so that they could experience one of my favorite childhood restaurants. I still remember earning good grades and getting rewarded with a trip to Max & Erma's and getting myself a Beetlejuice drink. Unfortunately, it seems as though all of the local locations have closed down. But, I am always up for a road trip. When we arrived, the parking lot was full. So, I figured this was a good sign. We went in and got seated right away. Customer service is excellent, and the food is just meh. We all ordered different versions of burgers. I got the BBQ Cola Burger. The server recommended making it a 3 course meal for a few extra bucks. That came with a salad and a cookie. Unfortunately, the salad was the best part of my meal. The Caesar dressing was phenomenal, and the breadstick was a nice touch. My burger lacked seasoning. It was as though they relied heavily on the sauce, and the sauce was very underwhelming. The fries weren't seasoned, so I mixed ketchup and mayo to make them edible. The chocolate chip cookie didn't disappoint. The kids loved the Beetlejuice drink, especially the gummy worms. Sadly, we could've gotten better burgers for cheaper at Mickey D's. But, at the end of the day, my children and I got to make a memory. Our server was amazing, so that was another plus. I was pleasantly surprised when my husband and I stopped here for lunch at 1:15 yesterday. It was really busy, but this was Saturday afternoon too. I wasn't sure what to expect because service tends to be terrible at most places anymore at both sit down and fast food restaurants. Fortunately, service was fantastic for us! The server checked on us several times, every worker I saw stayed busy with cleaning up tables and the floor or helping with getting orders out. The food was very good, my husband loves the reuben sandwich here so that is what he usually orders and I tried the mushroom swiss burger. Portions and flavor of the food was great. Poor management , My family and I was there today and ordered a meal. I ordered the so called great American burger with onion rings. All the food was good except my burger. I tried to eat it but it was so salty I couldn't do it. I ate less than half of it so I told the waitress and she told the manager. They asked if I wanted it replaced so I said if they could remove the burger from and the manager would not do it. I told them if they would rather loose my business they did nothing. I was so happy to stumble upon one of my favorite restaurant chains that still had a location open. The service was wonderful. The waitress was kind and friendly. The restaurant was very clean and had the same decor as the others. I ordered the turkey avocado burger with no bun. It was delicious and the Swiss cheese was very flavorful. My kids ordered grilled cheese and mini burgers, they loved them! My husband hangover burger on an English muffin. The sundaes with all the topping served table side. read more

Max & Erma's was a mixed bag. I had the salmon with red skin mashed potatoes and broccoli. The mashed potatoes were absolutely delicious but way too hot to enjoy right away, while the salmon, although flavorful, wasn't as hot as I would've liked. The broccoli was pretty forgettable--not bad, not great, just there. Service was solid, friendly, and attentive. Overall, I'd give it a 3 out of 5. read more

I am a proud Max and Erma's fan for life. The one near my hometown closed a while ago so being able to enjoy this one was a delightful experience. Food is still absolutely delicious, and the decor is very homely -- not like what you see in most restaurants nowadays. The staff were also very friendly. Most seemed to be high schoolers, but they served us quickly and got everything prepared just right (even with customizations). I hope this one never closes! read more

My wife and I stopped in for a quick bite. We ordered the nachos and bodacious burger with onion rings. Kitchen and bar were busy...the food was delicious and the beer...my gosh those were ice cold drafts. We have stopped in previously and today was no exception. Good food, good beer and good prices. If I had a suggestion, the lettuce on the nachos. Order and hold the lettuce. It wasn't aged or wilted, just not the right kind of lettuce. The ambiance was laid back and all was good. read more

This is the last time we will eat here. Oliver was an awful server, very oblivious to his tables, and preoccupied with complaining to other workers. Took 10+ minutes to get my drink refilled, my burger came with about 5 fries, he said they were making more, and would be fresh ones out, took another 15 mins and me asking for fries to get them. This is a zero star review. Awful. Was seated at 4:40pm. Left the restaurant at 4:58pm. No one came to the table to take a drink order. A table next to us was seated and their drink orders were delivered and we still were waiting to give a drink order. Not a single person looked at us, although at least 7 different servers walked past us. No wonder they are all closing down. read more

This is sad. I love Mac & Ermas been going to this restaurant since it first opened. Remember the phones on the tables? We stopped in for lunch. It's started out that we waited alot of time and no one showed up at our table. We had to ask the person who seated us who was waiting our table. He left and came back after awhile and took our order for drinks. Then the waitress shows up. Ok, we order soup and burger w/fries. Waited an enormous amount of time before waitress comes out with our burger and fries. No soup. The fries were Luke warm. She told us that she thought we wouldn't complain because we were nice people. She knew they were cold. Yikes. She also said the soup would be out later. Burger was good but nothing else was. The mgr accused me of something I did not do, told me to leave immediately, or she would call the police. She did not approach me and question me in a professional, non-accusatory manner, to inquire what was going on--and would not let me even talk. "Just leave now". I had already paid, plus 20% tip. Never go to the restaurant in Lancaster. I have never been so ridiculously accused, or publicly humiliated. I recommend that no one patronize Max and Ermas, Lancaster. A restaurant that hires this sort of staff to manage the location and deal with their customers is not worth supporting with my dining out income. The store is eventually going to close due to poor management. It deserves to fail. read more

Veteran's Day. 11/11/22 Lancaster, Ohio. Our lunch was very good. service was good. Busy and a nice show of veterans. We sat in the bar and we were about mid meal, the waitress/bartender said to customers next to us; "This 'veteran thing', if they tip anything it's a dollar. I work hard, too". We were going to tip 50%, but she only got 30%. The comment was unnecessary and my husband/veteran heard it and thought it wasn't necessary. Never heard anyone utter "thank you for your service". I had a good experience here. I we arrived at a busy time. We were told it would take about 35 min but actually got seated in around 15 min. The waiter was really nice and new a lot about the menu. I ended up getting the tortilla burger. Loved it. It had good flavor and just the right taste and kick. The dipping sauce that came with the burger was really good too. The only thing that I would say is the waiter was always rushed. It seems like he didn't want to listen To what we had to say. read more

My boyfriend and I were both craving Max & Erma's since the one in Reynoldsburg closed a few months ago. We made the trip down to Lancaster to quench our craving for a delicious burger, tortilla soup and the best chocolate chip cookies in the world. Before we went, I read the reviews. There were a few negative reviews but despite the low rating we decided to take the risk. I'm so glad we did. Our server, Helen was very polite and prompt with service despite being understaffed. Our burgers were absolutely perfect, tortilla soup was as delicious as always and the cookies were hot and delicious. We will be making trips down in the future just to eat here again. Stopped in for a light lunch today while out shopping with my sister. We were both hankering for a salad and some soup to warm our souls and this did just that. Our waitress was the sweetest (I need to learn to remember names ) and kept our drinks full at all times. The French onion soup is a chicken broth base and not quite as rich as a beef base, but it is delicious nonetheless. I got the ranch dressing for my salad and added egg because I am fancy and found out right away that though the ranch is perfectly fine that the balsamic vinaigrette (my sister ordered) is the way to go. I watched burger after burger after burger pass us by and my mouth was drooling at the sight of them and the smell of the French fries. I'm not going to lie I would have tripped a waiter for three fries today they smelled that good . Try it out. You won't be disappointed. read more

I love, love the Laredo steak! My husband tried the wings for the first time, and really enjoyed them. The best part of this 'outing' was how the staff fixed an 'issue' in the kitchen. My mother asked for a seasoning to be held on her chicken, and it was messed up. The server immediately informed us that they were remaking the chicken, and it would be out very soon... the manager then came out, offered her apologies, as well as cookies! I've eaten at other M&Es over time, and since their whole change of concept (from bar and grill to more "upscale" establishments), I've grown more and more flustered with the lack luster food I've tried at these joints. This was the third time my husband's meal was not good. He ordered the Hamburger meal deal. His hamburger was overcooked. His French fries were cold. We were with friends and it was a party of 12 so he didn't want to complain. I just checked with a friend and she advised on her end of the table everyone's French fries were cold also. My kids and I went here for lunch. The service was pretty bad. Everything that we asked for out of the ordinary we didn't get. No lemon in the waters, no blue cheese on the side, no pickles, they put everything on my sons salad that I asked them not to. She forgot my dessert that came with the meal. We might have told her these things but she never stopped at our table. I'd have to try and tell her as she walked by without stopping and she never caught half of what I said. We basically had to beg for refills because after asking several times we still had none. Then she brought me a $70 bill when mine should have been around $30. It wasn't my bill. Then she hands me what should have been my bill but there were 2 drinks on there that I did not order so she had to go remove that. Then once we finally got the correct bill we sat waiting for her to take it for another 5 minutes. She equally messed up the table beside us.
