One of the best Caesar salads I have ever had!
    LJ W.

After taking the children to an Easter Egg Hunt, I decided to drive to Lancaster so that they could experience one of my favorite childhood restaurants. I still remember earning good grades and getting rewarded with a trip to Max & Erma's and getting myself a Beetlejuice drink. Unfortunately, it seems as though all of the local locations have closed down. But, I am always up for a road trip. When we arrived, the parking lot was full. So, I figured this was a good sign. We went in and got seated right away. Customer service is excellent, and the food is just meh. We all ordered different versions of burgers. I got the BBQ Cola Burger. The server recommended making it a 3 course meal for a few extra bucks. That came with a salad and a cookie. Unfortunately, the salad was the best part of my meal. The Caesar dressing was phenomenal, and the breadstick was a nice touch. My burger lacked seasoning. It was as though they relied heavily on the sauce, and the sauce was very underwhelming. The fries weren't seasoned, so I mixed ketchup and mayo to make them edible. The chocolate chip cookie didn't disappoint. The kids loved the Beetlejuice drink, especially the gummy worms. Sadly, we could've gotten better burgers for cheaper at Mickey D's. But, at the end of the day, my children and I got to make a memory. Our server was amazing, so that was another plus. I doubt we will return anytime soon. BBQ Cola Burger 1-5=1.5. Fries 1-5=1. Caesar Salad 1-5=5! Chocolate Chip Cookie 1-5=3. Customer Service 1-5=5!

I was so happy to stumble upon one of my favorite restaurant chains that still had a location open. The service was wonderful. The waitress was kind and friendly. The restaurant was very clean and had the same decor as the others. I ordered the turkey avocado burger with no bun. It was delicious and the Swiss cheese was very flavorful. My kids ordered grilled cheese and mini burgers, they loved them! My husband hangover burger on an English muffin. The sundaes with all the topping served table side.

I am a proud Max and Erma's fan for life. The one near my hometown closed a while ago so being able to enjoy this one was a delightful experience. Food is still absolutely delicious, and the decor is very homely -- not like what you see in most restaurants nowadays. The staff were also very friendly. Most seemed to be high schoolers, but they served us quickly and got everything prepared just right (even with customizations). I hope this one never closes!

food is ok, pricey for cheap food. Service is ok depends who you get, it's a classic old time vibe and little lighting.

Some time ago they brought back peanuts using this former favorite by now packaging servings in bags keeping the peanuts fresher and better tasting. Steak preparation is exactly what it should take for a grilled to order steak. Steaks arrive perfectly seasoned and cooked to the right temperature which for me is medium rare. Salads are made from fresh lettuce and there is a wide variety of dressings to choose from. Baked potatoes are roasted to perfection and I like topping mine with butter and sour cream. When we want steak at great prices and excellent service this is where we come!

When we arrived there was no workers in sight because a sign that said use the screen to order dine in or take out so we choose dine in. We got our milkshakes about 20 minutes after sitting down and I got the chocolate chip cookie dough and it was basically just vanilla. There was no pieces of anything in it and they gave it to us in to go cups even though we were dining in. Then we got our food about 45 minutes after that and they just called our number over the speaker and we did not get our cheese for our fries we paid for but the food was alright and they don't put seasoning for the fries on the table anymore. I went up asked for some seasoning and they said you have to pay $3 for it. All around I was not pleased. I don't know if they don't wanna pay for servers or just can't get good servers in but their new system seemed lazy, unhelpful and cheap. You have to order on your own, pick up your food at the front, refill your own drink and throw away your trash. It's like a cafeteria.

Since we were there during brunch, the spouse and I had two of their brunch staples. My Works Skillet was essentially a meat lovers omelette that looked a little better on paper than it tasted. The individual components tasted fine, but the dish was a little dry for me. The missing ingredient was cheese, so please request that they add some to your dish if you order it. I was able to steal a little of my wife's Dijon Hollandaise from her Eggs Benny to moisten my entree, and it was a good audible. The herb home fries were very nice, just like our waitress who struck up a conversation with us around the local happenings to partake in during the nice weather. JB's main menu is lunch and dinner focused so it would be interesting to go back and experience that.
