I have used this place before and I continue to love it. Terry is a very skilled mechanic and possesses a high level of integrity. I took my car there after developing a nasty rod knocking noise and he was able to quickly diagnose the engine as toast. He provided some good guidance and his team also worked with the tow truck driver to get it to the dealership. It looks like this will be the 99th review, and after having the team at Max, do the work on my car. I see why it has a 5 star rating. I would give it a 10 star if it went that high. Kathy at front desk is a sweetheart however I feel they have her because you cannot get angry at her. She's very calming. Anyhow Terry was a jerk at first which I was surprised because I heard such great stuff about him. I was charged 75$ which I don't care but they should of told me they charge to test drive my car. I had no idea and was never given quote or work order nothing. So that being said..... he quoted me over 6500$$$ to repair my car. I took to another mechanic for another look. Problem solved for $540 bucks AND 4 HOURS LATER.. they tried to rip me off saying I needed new tranny and rear differential. Gosh I won't be recommending anyone here. I've never liked dealing with car stuff, especially because it's so expensive to get them fixed. But I'm so grateful I found this gem because now all my car worries are relieved! Terry, the owner, is the most honest and trustworthy mechanic I've ever had the pleasure to meet (& I've taken my car to many different places) he helped with fixing my car to pass emissions (finally it passed, yay!) he's very reasonable with prices and tells it like it is when it comes to what's wrong with your car (which I love because a lot of mechanics try to add things on to jack prices up, or at least that's what I've dealt with in past experiences) his wife and daughter are so friendly and kept me occupied with good conversation while I waited. I also like that it's family owned. I love supporting family owned companies, I feel like they are more genuine than chain establishments are. My catalytic converter was bad so I had failed emissions, the team at Max Automotive not only got me the best price on OEM parts, they fixed a simple oil leak that another shop told me was a major repair. After bringing our car in twice for the same problem and being charged ($500 and $280.35 ) we brought the vehicle in today (again for the same problem) and we were treated extremely rudely and told to take our business elsewhere. The gentleman that we spoke to was loud and angry and went into a rage because he said I was rude when I joked with the receptionist my disappointment in a mechanic that works on the vehicle the last time. He threatened to call the police if we didn't leave immediately. Max automotive response: Larry came for valve cover gasket leaking in 2020 and came back "very disappointed" that it was leaking again approximately a week later.   After further inspection we noticed that the valve cover was cracked (we showed him when he picked up) and only charged our cost for the part.    He called last week stating that it was leaking oil again and we scheduled him for an inspection.   When he came he told us that they had been out of town and when they came back there was oil everywhere and he was "very disappointed."   Kathy apologized (even though he was presumptuous in thinking that it was the same thing)  and told him we would take a look at what was going on.  Larry said that it was not her fault and she should get on the mechanics in the shop.   She said that we are family and a team and we share in the responsibility in everything that happens at the shop.   He followed up with "you should yell at your family when you get home tonight."   Terry overheard what was said and told him to leave and that we did not want to work on his car since it was out of warranty.   He said he was joking but Terry insisted that he leave.   When he did not leave promptly he told him that he would call the police if he did not leave. Larry's response: The response was pretty accurate except saying 2020 makes it sound like a long time ago, however, the actual date was December 21, 2020 only a little over a year ago. We also explained that we have been out of town for the last nine plus months and we called immediately upon our return, it took a couple weeks to get an appointment. The actual mileage from the time of the last repair was only 1911 miles. Regardless, a business owner should never become irate and yell a customer. I was, as I told him, quiet and respectful and did not deserve his treatment. Stay away from this guy! read more

I dropped my car off because it was overheating and we were in the neighborhood...I was told I blew my head gaskets and needed $8k worth of work. I said that putting 8k into my car wasn't worth it so I asked what could be done to just trade it in. He said just fill it up with water and drive it to the dealership or that he would give me $1200 cash for my car. This automatically raised a red flag and so I paid to have the car towed to a certified Cadillac technician for a second opinion. After some hoses and an oil change (less than $200) my car is fine! I have a lot of miles on my car, but it's an Escalade and it's paid off so my plan has been to drive it until it dies...I'm glad I trusted my gut and went somewhere else. I will say that my husband took his parent's car here a while ago and he felt they did a good job. So I'm hoping what happened to me isn't common practice. read more

This team is the best I've found in 40 years. Terry installed a new A.C. system and completely rebuilt my 2001 Dodge Ram dashboard. I really liked Max Auto and felt they did a good job when working on my Suburban. I have been to them a couple of times. I am from out of state and if I needed any work on any of my vehicles I would go to Max first. Terry has always been very informative and I thought patient. This review is regarding my last interaction. I needed an instrument cluster rebuilt and initially in talking to Terry he explained how it would work. A good and positive conversation. I was told I would get a quote the next day. While I didn't get it the next day I was not concerned. Things happen, ok, no issue. I understand. I called and talked with Kathy, good conversation, but she told me that it may take as long as two weeks. Primarily due to shipping. Ok, understand but I suggested that I will drive the cluster to the repair facility and bring it back when it is ready, but I needed assurance that the timing would support my need to have the suburban ready for my return trip out of state in about 2 weeks. Kathy transferred me to Terry and is also where everything went south (baffling to me). I told Terry that if I would be stuck if we didn't get the cluster in time. He disagreed and stated I can drive it without the cluster. True, and while driving cross country without a speedometer can be worked around driving cross country without a gas gauge, oil pressure gauge, error notifications light, etc. is not. Terry's response floored me. He abruptly stated he couldn't continue with this conversation and told me to take it to the Chevy dealership. I responded that they were more expensive. He didn't care. He couldn't handle it and hung up. I have never been treated this way by any service provider on anything. I didn't know what I did to be treated this way. Max Auto is a good auto repair facility as is clear from the reviews and even my own experience. If you use them be cautious though. The fact that I was a dedicated customer of Max Auto was irrelevant. I did something to upset Terry and was summarily dismissed. Again be careful. I am now in the market for another auto repair provider. read more

Max Automotive is an unusual repair shop in that they actually only repair the part/parts that are causing problems. We've been to another shop and after paying over $700, decided to get a second opinion when told we needed another $800+ in work done. Max did the computer-check thing and looked over the engine. One sensor was creating the problem and they replaced it for $70. The family who runs this business is friendly, honest and very reliable. A year ago I gave this place a 5 star rating. I wish I could now give them higher. Terry and his wife are unbelievable when it comes to customer service. We had a huge problem with our Tahoe stuck in 4 low wheel drive and decided to limp to their shop on Sunday morning and leave the keys in dropbox since they are closed on Sundays. Terry happened to be there and he immediately knew what was wrong and got it unstuck and showed us what to do if ever happened again. What a huge relief.
