Haven't been to this Max Burger in a few years, so we were due for a return visit. They recently have changed their menu so we tried one of the new creations, French Onion open faced burger, which had a nice flavor but presentation was way off by having the bread much larger than the patty. The side of au jus was a nice touch as well (but a crock with a pour spout would've been helpful). Sweet potato fries were deliciously crispy. Hubby had the bacon onion smash-- also great flavor but felt that the burger was on the small side, in comparison to Plan B burgers. Service was very friendly and atmosphere was comfortable but considering the prices and the size of the burger, i'm more apt to go to Plan B for my burger and fries fix! read more

Made a second visit on Dec. 3, unfortunately, everything changed including an all new menu. I ordered the steakhouse burger, as close to my last one as I could find, it was very dry, the Wagyu flavor was pretty much destroyed and the patty size also shrunk, about 50% thinner than last time while the price remained high at $18.5. The Brussels sprouts were burned, and tasted bitter. The worst was that a piece of hard charcoal, formerly known as Candy Beacon, almost chipped one of my teeth. I can only give it 3 stars for this visit. I am being generous to allow it to average up to 4 based on my last trip, but it's really a bummer to see it got down hill after merely 2 weeks of such an great burger experience. I found out that there are six guys flipping burgers at any given time, so it could be the luck of the draw, & today is not my day. ----------------------------------------- Previous review on nov. 14, I gave it 5 stars: To me, plan B will always be plan B as it's too close to Max. Food: I've had burgers here before that were much better than today. That was maybe 3-6-ish years ago. Well today I got the wild and fungi burger. What I tasted was a good beef burger...slight truffle flavor, very bland mushroom and the cheese was just melty, but again flavorless; none of the flavors really popped today. The side of sauce served with the burger (I don't even know what it was) looked like ranch but was strange and very acidic....not sure how this made it to the plate, but I smothered it all I've r my flavorless burger. The truffle fries were as flacid in flavor as they were physically. These fries were to slapped together quickly and were not allowed to be fries. They should not have called them fries. Not only that (as if to hide their French fry shame) they were topped with unmelted Parmesan cheese also -this cheese was shaved in a way that appeared to bagged cheese- I initially said "maybe" I would recommend this restaurant...I cannot do this now. I cannot want to come back here, especially when I know a better place closer to my house...I just happened to be in the area. Don't judge a book by its cover, but do judge a restaurant by their food. This just didn't work all fronts...even the drink I ordered went south. So I'm getting a beer to wash this taste out of mouth...if you want a good burger...go to plan B on springfiel...it's worth it. We are from out of town and were looking for a local burger place. The hotel staff where we are staying recommended Max Burger. There is seating inside and out. It was an overcast warm night so we decided to sit outside since there is a large awning that would provide protection of any potential passing showers. The staff is attentive and friendly. I got the Max Classic. I liked that it was available in a 5oz and 8oz. I ordered the 5oz. It was juicy and delicious. The toppings of tomato and lettuce were fresh and the pickles were superb (I should have asked if they were made in house) Just the right amount of Max sauce was added. Fries were also delicious and served with a ranch dressing. My husband got the Texican burger. This was an 8oz burger with all the toppings you would expect on texmex style burger. He loved it. They sound good while reading their descriptions on the menu, but the actual taste is gross. This time I took 2 bites and called it a day. We like to come here after a full day at six flags for a hearty burger. Hands down, their burgers are the best around--juicy and cooked to perfection. I've been going to Max's ever since it opened in town. To say it's gone way down is putting it mildly. The whole fiasco started with a drink before dinner. I had a gin and tonic and there was no lime in the glass. (I was also sceptical that the gin was Tangueray, which was my liquor of choice.) How could ANY bartender miss the lime? My wife ordered a glass of wine (Savignon Blanc) which was tasteless, despite the Server's claim that it was "the most popular wine by far". Pity if that's the case. But that's just the tip of the iceberg. I ordered a burger Medium and it came out almost rare. Not even close. Like a trooper, I wound up eating most of it. To their credit, the Manager came over and when I mentioned the burger being undercooked, the charge was taken off the bill. Cross this place off the list (unless I stop in for just a beer). Stopped in today while traveling to Massachusetts and was super excited to try Max Burger's fatty melt! I mean what could be better than a burger with two grilled cheese sandwiches as the buns? There is a spot back home that serves a similar sandwich (Snap's Bistro if you're ever on Long island in New York) and I knew it would be really hard to top it. Unfortunately I was underwhelmed by this sandwich. The grilled cheese sandwiches were incredibly soggy and greasy, and the burger itself was lackluster. Too crispy on the outside and not a lot of flavor. Disappointing! The sweet potato fries I got on the side were really good, I finished those and passed on the rest of the burger. Finally! I had had enough of my own cooking and ordered my first restaurant meal in awhile. Boy, did we pick well! We both ordered a large Sante Fe salad. The salads were packaged well in to-go boxes that transported so very nicely. All ingredients were fresh and the flavors: Mixed greens, cumin, sweet potatoes, guacamole, cucumber, pico de gallo, black beans and cotija cheese mixed so well. The chipotle-honey and lime vinaigrette was so good we managed to save some for a next salad! I had salmon as an add-on and it too was perfectly seasoned and cooked perfectly. Don't waste your money on take out. It comes cold no matter when you get it. Food is mediocre at best. And they pay so little attention to the product they put out they leave the plastic sticker on the food and leave out ingredients that were advertised. The atmosphere is really cozy and welcoming. TVs are everywhere and there lighting is warm and welcoming. Tables are a little small for my liking but all of our food fit just fine! Our server was attentive, although sometimes forgetful of what we had asked for, but we still got the correct order. My dad was pleased with his burger, it was well done and hot when it came out. My buffalo chicken sandwich had some serious heat and I was so thrilled about that. The buttermilk chicken tacos (which I was able to take out with me) were super delicious! My boyfriend and my best friend and I came here one day after class and we got the same service! Our server this time around was very quick and was willing to help us with suggestions. I love eating here. The General Tso's Cauliflower is a must. I love the Spinach Artichoke Dip too. And if I've learned anything from my restaurant experiences, if the starters are delicious, the entrees are almost guaranteed to be even better. Rude staff, completely oblivious management. Went there for an early dinner at 4:30 only to be completely ignored by staff while sitting at the bar. Was there until 6 pm. So, so good. Stop yelping places, just go here. Group of four of us got apps and as soon as we took a bite, we knew everything would be delicious. Tomato soup, candied bacon lollipops, spinach artichoke dip, truffle fries, several different burgers (add the onion straws!), and oh man. The milkshakes are so good too (especially the kahlua one). To top it all off, our waitress was absolutely stellar. I wish I knew her name! She was polite, friendly, down to earth, efficient, gave great recommendations, followed up without being pushy.
