Find Max Sushi at Community Crafthouse which is also a great bar to grab a drink! It's so busy with the locals of the community! Weekends are always busy for drinks and most specially the sushi! We love Max Sushi, it's a frequent stop and everything has been amazing! We got the sampler this time and it had all variations of the sushi! Love the presentation, style and taste! A great bar with indoor and outdoor seating, perfect for family's and even small/large groups! Staff is great and no problem! Highly recommend!

I think the best way to describe this place is "eh". Nothing particularly special about it, between the food or the atmosphere. It was fine, but unless you're out deep in Daniel Island anyway I don't think you should make the trip. We drove from West Ashley because we were craving a sushi lunch on a Friday and wanted to try someplace new. I think I'll just go to Publix instead next time. Sorry to be harsh but "eh" is as nice as I can get.

Was at accent on wine and wanted to grab some quick sushi togo. They have a nice 2 for or 3 for section for the simple rolls. I got 2 for $15 which I thought was a good deal. The sushi was good, simple and exactly what I needed. We ordered at the counter and there was a new girl training on her first day but she was very friendly. This place is also a brewery so I'll be back for the beers next time

    Spicy tuna and goodness!

Stumbled on this groovy little spot while running errands last weekend - super friendly barkeep welcomed us and the kiddos in. Menu is perfect for kids with "pretzel hotdogs" and for adults with gorgeous sushi! The rolls were clean and fresh - lots of spice and an absolutely outstanding presentation with dry ice! Amazing local craft beer options too. Great spot for a quick bite and lovely fresh sushi.

Everything is so fresh. Best sushi I've had in Charleston by far. We have never had a bad dish!

Absolutely my favorite sushi place (though I always get takeout). I began eating their sushi when they were located in Mt. P (called Megoomi then) & just got some today from the new location on Daniel Island (now called Max). Fresh & tasty at affordable prices. I particularly love their spicy tuna & spicy salmon rolls plus the Dynamite, Crazy Tuna & Spicy Lover Rolls. (I've ordered so much sushi from them in the past nine months that we've become friends!) They offer daily specials too. Nice little pub to sit & have a drink with tv's & indoor/outdoor seating...the Community Crafthouse. Enjoy!!

The staff was friendly but the food wasn't anything special. After a 15% tip the bill was 45$ for 2 rolls, a poke bowl, & a mini coke...

This is a genuine spot for sushi and drinks ( beer and wine). It's located in the Community craft house. It wasn't easy for us to find, but once we found it.... WOW!! We love sushi and know decent, bad, and good sushi! They have good sushi. The service was excellent and very personal. We felt very comfortable and ate well for a fair price. The owners are great. Check out Todd and his wife! Support this business.

Sushi was flavorful, large pieces of fish and tasted fresh. Our server was attentive and provided excellent service. The restaurant has nice low lighting and has a welcoming atmosphere. My rating is reflective of the cleanliness of the restaurant. We walked in and almost turned around and walked out because the smell was so overwhelming when you walk in. Now, Charleston itself has a slight smell but it's very unappetizing to walk into sour/fishy smell. We decided to push through and try it because it was down pouring. The restroom is a single room, gender natural restroom. It was gross. The floors were sticky and slippery. Again, the food and service were great but I'd suggest giving a little extra attention to the cleanliness. They do offer a good lunch special. That was a bonus.

All jokes aside, she really needs someone to teach her basic customer service skills and how to speak to people. She is very aggressive and comes off very rude and flat out mean. To her she may not think that and I am giving her the benefit of the doubt here because she really does lay it on really thick. It's sad too because the sushi, Hibachi, and food here is actually good hence the 3 stars. We dined in and the place was decently clean and looked okay but it was dead and empty and I can only assume it's from all of the negative reviews about the customer service. I honestly don't foresee this place lasting too much longer if she doesn't either get help or get better training on how to speak and interact with customers and I am just talking about the mere basics here of customer service nothing else.

Very limited seating across the room but we luckily we snagged a reservation. Our server was very friendly and went over some specials with us before taking our drink orders and inquired about allergies. We went family style and started with the crispy tuna rice, marinated cucumbers, dumplings and pork bao. We added on a few rolls and ended with the sesame lamb noodles and duck fried rice. The dumplings were unique with this crispy shell on top and had a creamier sauce. We did have to ask for soy sauce which is usually something we expect to get right away after ordering sushi. He gave us one dish of soy instead of all of our own which I thought was weird so we asked for more. I enjoyed the textures of the dumplings but I felt the sauce lacked a bit in flavor to complement the dumplings. Crispy rice looked appealing but we were all disappointed with the lack of flavor, especially in the tuna mixture alright the textures were on point. The sushi rolls were made well and you get about 5 bigger pieces. The best thing we had were the cucumbers! Simple and delicious, packed with flavor. The sesame lamb noodles were also prepared well, and had nice flavors overall that were unique. We spent about $200 per couple which I felt was quite steep for the amount of food we got, but overall I would say we enjoyed ourselves but a few things just fell short on flavors.

I appreciated how they filled their spicy tuna rolls with chunky pieces of fish instead of the usual ground tuna used in other sushi restaurants. Their offerings and methods of preparation, paired with their higher price point, suggests they are a higher end establishment. However, the atmosphere was undoubtedly on the casual side, and their service, although friendly and knowledgeable, exuded a lack of experience and the same attention to detail that they put into their food. This was especially apparent after coming from eating at other restaurants in a similar price bracket, where you can sense the waitstaff had a lot of pride and passion for their craft, and it didn't feel like it was just a job for them. In contrast, our experience at Shiki felt far more transactional, and lacked that "customer obsession" and genuine warmth. That said, it's difficult to judge a restaurant's culture just from a single night, and maybe other customers had a different experience from us. Ultimately, if good sushi is your priority and you are willing to splurge a bit, Shiki meets and even exceeds that bar.
