Our first time to the restaurant and we enjoyed it. We were welcomed and seated as soon as we walked in and our server was quick with drinks, giving us enough time to look over the menu. I ordered takeout at Sushi Taro and service was fast and friendly. I placed the order online and it was ready by the time I arrived (~15 minutes). I got the Sushi and Sashimi combo for 1 and it was a lot of food! It came with 5 pieces of assorted sushi, 6 pieces of sashimi, a spicy tuna roll, a soup, and a salad. The salad was typical with a refreshing ginger dressing. I thought the soup was bland so didn't really have much. However, the sushi was so fresh and delicious! None of the pieces were fishy and the flavor was great. I've never had white tuna before as I'm usually a salmon girl, but it ended up being my favorite! The spicy tuna roll was also huge and packed full of crunchy tempura and spicy tuna. I was so full and could barely finish everything. I love Sushi Taro! Great service and even better food. We went there Thursday night later than normal and we were probably the last ones to leave as usual the service atmosphere a small restaurant excellent my wife ordered different. She ordered the tempura appetizer and the chicken lettuce rolls. I ordered my usual Sushi. My wife could order one appetizer and had a meal. I was impressed with the three lettuce rolls. I ate one. It was very filling and excellent tasting. I eat a third of her tempura, which I enjoyed my Sushi as usual, doesn't look filling, but by the time you eat everything, it was great And I'm still impressed. Fantastic! I live in the Upstate and this place was better than anything that I have found there. Ordered the combination of sushi and rolls. There was plenty for two - so much that it was served on a boat! A bottle of wine was 1/2 price on the day we went so that was just a bonus. I definitely recommend this place. Overall a warm feel on the inside. A quiet atmosphere and all hands on deck service. Food came out very quickly. Let's start with the first thing we got. Miso soup. WOW! It was great. Then, there was the gyozas. Also great. Then we had the yaki udon with chicken. If you're looking for your udon in a broth, this is not the dish for you. I typically like a more sauced up udon than what this was, but I will say there was definitely a sufficient amount of chicken. Onto the sushi, LOL !! Buddha's belly was relatively good with a nice crunch, however, it was one of those sushi rolls that I preferred wasabi on, if you know what I mean . The Charleston roll was cut into pieces that were perfectly bite-sized, but nothing too special. However, the presentation was licky. Then they gave us a free little dessert on the house! I am very disappointed and regret bringing my mother here for her birthday. It was my first and will be my last time coming to this restaurant. They must have switched managements or something because our experience was completely opposite of all the good but older reviews. We got the tempura udon dinner entree which comes with a bunch of vegetables and shrimp tempura. The tempura broccoli that they served was so undercooked that it was literally doughy on the inside once you bit into it. The shrimp and the zucchini were also undercooked and still hard. We told the server that the vegetables were so undercooked that it was doughy and that there was raw flour mixture on them, and he just kind of laughed and said that they were going to take it back and cook it for longer?? I was confused and kind of baffled by the response of them laughing at the matter of doughy tempura being served at a restaurant. They also kind of looked at us like he didn't know what to do and was looking at us as if he was saying, "what do you want me to do?" After a while, they did bring us a new platter of tempura but still undercooked and doughy... at that point we were out of hope of getting good tempura and decided to just finish our other entrees and leave. They asked us how it was going and when told that they were still undercooked but that it was okay, again they just kind of awkward laughed and said, "oh okay sorry."There was also only 1 other table there so absolutely no excuse why they could not pay better attention to cooking their food thoroughly. How do you mess up and undercook your tempura vegetables TWICE? We asked for the check and after serving us raw flour mixture and then still messing it up the second time, they gave us no discount, did not take it off the check, or offer us free dessert or anything. We paid full dinner prices (not worth it) after walking in 10 min after lunch time was over and had a very bad experience. However, I still tipped. When we were walking out, the older guy, whom I assume is the owner or manager, that was sitting out there almost the entire time started going inside towards the back/kitchen AS we were trying to walk out. Had to turn a little to avoid bumping into us as he said in a very obviously angry and rude tone and manner, "thank you, BYE." Why was he angry and rude to us after they messed up their food and charged us full prices? Their tables were stained and dirty, the food was bad as mentioned above, and service sucked too. Found this restaurant to be decorated nicely, the staff and general was friendly. However, when I asked if they could do our Hibatchi without onions or certain vegetables, they were unaccommodating. They also would not put the vegetables to the side and to be served with the pro at the word proteins. The fried rice had very little egg in it, and only vegetable was diced up carrot. The flavor of the fried rice was underwhelming. However, the hibachi did have a nice flavor. The restaurant staff seem not to care about waiting on us. They're more concerned about eating their own meal. I would not recommend this restaurant to no one giving it to stars is my way of being kind. read more

[Take-out review] Overall: Another solid option for sushi in the area! The good: Friendly staff greeted me upon arrival for my takeout. It looks like a smaller restaurant on the inside, so keep that in mind if you're dining in (that said, it looked nice!). Lots of rolls to choose from, not to mention many other non-sushi items. We got the Makimoto, Lotus Flower, Charleston, and Crazy Tuna rolls. The Makimoto had heaps of crispy onion on top, which isn't typical but we loved it. The Charleston roll was our favorite - hard to beat shrimp tempura and multiple types of tuna in one roll. Everything was fresh and kept well for leftovers the next day. The not-so-good: Prices seem a little higher than some of the other competition in the area (the rolls we got were $16-19). Also, the scallops didn't meet my expectations, and there wasn't enough wasabi between all of the rolls.
