We just used Maxi Movers yesterday for our move within Astoria and couldn't have been more pleased! We were quoted for 3 guys at a ridiculously reasonable rate and they didn't charge extra to provide a COI (required by our old building). The guys showed up spot on time and were incredibly efficient. We had everything already boxed up and clearly labeled so it was a breeze getting everything into the new apartment and organized. They even put back together our bed and helped with the sofa. From past experience I knew to have everything already packed and boxed before they arrived (the space saver vacuum bags increase your move time three-fold because they're difficult to stack and carry). They took a few smoke breaks but they always asked first, which I thought was very considerate of them. Even with the heat and a 2nd floor walk up at the new apartment we were moved in under 5 hours. I gave them a bunch of gatorade and water for their trouble and even offered to buy them lunch, which they turned down. Honestly, they were three of the nicest guys I've ever met and were incredibly efficient. I was worried that because they were paid hourly they would dawdle but it certainly wasn't the case. All told, even after the tip, they came in at under half of what I had been quoted at three other places (Schleppers, Rob the Mover, and FlatRate). Best kept secret in New York! I would highly recommend them to anyone. Obviously, you have to do a lot of sweat equity before they arrive (pack everything well and in boxes) but they'll take care of the rest (moving blankets for furniture, etc.). read more

I had a great experience with Maxi Moving while going from a two bedroom to a studio all in the Upper East Side. I was alerted early on about some traffic related delays and Roman Maximov's team got right to work when they could arrive. They were able to find convenient parking and hussled to get everything loaded in the truck. The whole process took a little over three hours to load and unload. The movers showed up right around the scheduled time and were very efficient, regardless of the fact that they were getting paid by the hour. They were also incredibly careful with all my furniture, making sure to wrap anything in blankets that might get damaged (or might damage the hallways when they were moving it from the apartment). They disassembled and reassembled everything as necessary. They kept me in the loop no matter what they were doing, making sure that everything got moved to the proper place at my new residence. It was a short move, but they still didn't bill for travel time. What was most excellent about working with Maxi, though, was a man named Ivan who kept in contact with me via e-mail in the weeks preceding (and following) my move. I recently used Maxi Moving to move from Connecticut to Manhattan, and they far and away exceeded my expectations. They were extremely professional, fast and reasonably priced. I had shopped around to different moving companies and some other companies were quoting me DOUBLE what Maxi Moving charged. I could not have had an easier, stress free and efficient move and will definitely be coming back to Maxi Moving for any future moving needs. Payment was in cash only, with a tip given to the two crew. They did add small charges for incidental things (blankets / closet boxes/etc) unlike other companies but in the end their lower hourly rate ended up saving me money. If you have more furniture / stuff than me you may lose some of this value that I had though as these are 'additional' costs in their pricing structure that other companies give you for free. read more

My husband and I recently relocated from Boston to Brooklyn, and had our belongings stored in a PODS unit for several months. When it came time to unload, I was looking for a team of movers to hire for around $200 (I wasn't willing to spend the $400+ asked of some major moving companies), so looked on Craigslist. I was a bit skeptical about what could be expected by movers found in this venue (and of such low cost), but figured I could at least get a couple of guys to informally assist us. I sent an email to the contact person, and heard back with 3-6 hours with their low estimate of $75/hr for a team of 3 men (minimum 2 hrs plus .5 hr to account for travel time). I do my research for bargain shopping, and this is a steal compared to what other local and national movers charge. Turns out, these guys are serious about their work. Based on the low price, I hadn't expected them to be so punctual, prepared, and professional (I think I just came up with the "3 Necessary P's" of movers...TM). They were all three. We scheduled an appointment for 10am, when our PODS was scheduled to arrive. The team of three was on time, and probably would have arrived even earlier if they hadn't run into traffic from the Brooklyn Marathon. They were super nice and efficient in their work. What should have taken about 2-3 hours took them only 1. It was pretty incredible to watch them work! And best of all, I didn't have to lift a finger. Not that I'm particularly lazy, but there's only so much heavy lifting one can take... I'll definitely be giving them a call next time we move. read more

I just used Maxi Moving for a small studio sized move from Forest Hills, Queens to Harlem. As I compared prices with other movers, the one thing I was concerned about was the hourly rate since it's quite far to & from my new apartment. But Maxi offered $75/hour regardless of inventory, 0.5 travel time (flat fee), and arrived on time as scheduled at 3pm (in between their 2-4pm arrival time). Once they arrived, they handled business first which is a sure sign of no shadiness. We went over the terms, I signed and the two guys got down to business. Their system was quite amazing and efficient, and they moved all of my belongings into the truck in 30 minutes! And then for the commute - which was about an hour. I had expectations of riding in their truck with them since I don't have a car, but they're legit fellows that said no since they don't have a TOC license. I arrived by train at the exact time they arrived, and from start to finish it took 2.5 hrs and cost $275. I tipped them and told them I'd definitely refer them to anyone looking to move! These guys were sweet, hard working, and efficient. I would definitely say go with these guys if you like no nonsense, no hidden/surprise fees, and you want a smooth relaxing move! read more

I can't explain how good these guys were. Three guys moved an entire 2 bedroom home in 2 1/2 hours. They went up and down flights of stairs without so much as a break. I offer them water bottles and they tell me "Not until the job is done, I can't relax". When it comes to moving, these guys are top notch. The gentleman at the base who set up my appointment was in touch with me constantly, and explained any fee I would incur at the time of making the appointment, NOT at the home. They showed up right on time, went to work, and moved onto another job. Every single piece of furniture was spotless when they were done, and not one wall had a mark on it. I have nothing but good things to say about them, highlights below: - I originally found them through Unpakt so I knew they'd be a professional company (with insurance!) and not a sketchy craigslist mover. - They came in with the cheapest quote, charging an hourly rate instead of an inventory-based cost. Since I had a ton of boxes but wasn't moving far, I wanted to use an hourly company who wouldn't charge me for every box & chair & suitcase. - My three movers handled everything efficiently and delicately. They wrapped all furniture, were careful with boxes, and there was no damage to anything. - My email interactions with Ivan were seamless. He responded to email quickly and we were able to get a date and time on the books easily. I sent over the management company information and got a confirmation from him that day that the Certificates of Insurance were submitted (bonus - they cover the cost of COIs). - Also, and this is BIG...my movers went to the wrong drop-off address by mistake (a couple blocks away). As a result, they didn't charge me the travel time between apartments. They took full responsibility and knocked the cost down. MAJOR PROPS for that, Maxi Moving! Move details: I moved from the East Village to the West Village, and in total, the move took 2.5 hours (the .5 was travel time). Really happy I went with this company for my move! I am in the unique position where I had only 1 large dresser to transport. Quick job, close locations, I thought it'd be easy to find help. Every other highly rated company on yelp (Veteran/ Get There/ JP/ Sweet lou) was charging me a minimum of 2 hours, or a transportation fee, or hassling me with my schedule. Not worth the headache for literally one piece of furniture. Have you ever experienced moving 12 years of life in a one-bedroom apartment out with less than two weeks to pack? Well, don't. But if you do, calling Maxi Moving is one way to reduce the operatic tragedy of realizing how much s#$# you have should've been thrown out long ago. Anyway, three great guys led by Alex showed up within the time they'd given to move my crap from one side of my neighborhood to the other -- all 45 boxes, heavy furniture, and pet supplies of it. Although they were working by the hour, they worked fast: I don't know how they did it, but they made those 45 boxes disappear from apartment to truck in less than 40 minutes. They were even able to help me fold down my pet's cage (which was a pain to set up and even bigger pain to break down) so I could pack it. With Maxi Moving, the entire move with all my precious garbage took just 3-1/2 hours - and was CHEAP. I loved that they made clear what they were charging for and didn't add on BS. Everything I packed made it with NO breakages or lost materials, they packed my glass cabinets and other furniture with lots of blankets and protection, and the guys put each box in their designated rooms. Alex was great to talk to and the only thing I hated was that I didn't have water (it was hot as hell and Alex and his guys were literally sweating through all the work). I arranged a very late move (starting at 9 PM) and they quoted me a rate of $110/hr for three men with a flat fee for travel (some other moving companies will actually charge you the hourly rate to your place and back from their base). This was a great deal, and my movers (Dayan's team) were consummate professionals throughout the move. They managed to lug furniture and heavy boxes up four flights of stairs without a problem, and the only things they asked of me was what else they could help me with. Additionally, they were invested in getting me moved in as fast as possible, saving me even more money than the already reasonable quote.
