Located in a popular Vietnamese strip mall, it has your standard Asian veggies. I actually found the prices to be cheaper than around San Mateo and quality wasn't bad. One thing that I was surprised they didn't have was an assortment of dumplings and wonton. Overall, I would say cleanliness is between Marina & 99 Ranch with the quality of the produce closer to the latter. read more

This review is for the customer service and the fact that they had the one coveted item I was looking for - the little sheep Mongolian hot pot! I like that veggies like the crown daisy and lettuce are wrapped individually, and during covid times, it's that extra layer of protection that can ease our minds. I shared a picture of this little sheep Mongolian hot pot soup base to one of the employees and three of them helped me! They even guided me on where to find it cause I was having trouble. That is superb customer service at your local Asian grocery store, if you ask me! I wouldn't go here for fresh sliced meats - definitely still go to H mart or another Korean store for that if you're having a Korean BBQ / shabu night. That being said, they do have fish balls with shrimp in them! That is not even available at h mart. They cheated a lot. I bought a live crab from the tank and they picked it up, then swapped with the almost dead one from the bucket at the bottom bucket inside. I spotted it at the cash register because the crab barely moved and made them give me a new one. The second time, same thing happened. The crab I picked was strong alive one. When I got home, the crab had only 1 claw. The missing claw mark was old like someone chopped it with a sharp knife long ago and it's been healed. I came back and yelled at their shady business practice again. Don't buy any live crab, fish or lobsters at this market or you will receive an almost dead one which should cost a half price. They have a lot of specialty Vietnamese food here. when I came back from vietnam, I was happy to find a lot of the food at this store. I live in the city and I'm glad to have even one store in the Bay Area. There are a lot of people who come into this grocery and buy, it's a shame they don't have better reviews. read more

I'm more likely to shop in Sunnyvale for Asian groceries, but this store has Mama noodles, and a reasonable supply of Nong Shim products, as well. I still need to head to El Camino Real for specific Korean and Japanese products. This store looks impressively clean. Even the seafood tanks look reasonably clean. I would imagine there is the typical smell, but it's not incredibly strong, if it's there. They have a variety of products, covering a number of countries, but it seems more concentrated on VietNamese and Thai products. Given the area, it's understandable. Prices seemed reasonable, although many things didn't seem to be marked at all. read more

Only bought 1 box of tempura, tried paying with a $10 bill and got accused of counterfeiting by the cashier. I came in at 8:50PM. 10 whole minutes before closing. a Thai or Vietnam check out lady gave me super bad attitudes and the entire store seemed to want me out asap. they barely spoke English and nobody was willing to help me find something besides a nice Chinese lady who appeared to be manager. she did wanna rush me out by helping me find anything I want. When I checked out at 8:55PM, the check out lady with heavy eyebrows (not sure Thai or Vietnamese but the point is not about where she's front) gave me rly bad treatment. She threw my items down the checkout lane like they are garbage. And she slammed my receipt at me. lmao. Owner should consider the employee training or upper the pay. I went here to buy some rice, I asked the cashier if someone can help me load it into the car. I have a medical condition, I can't lift anything over 5lbs. can't strain myself. Don't ever buy fruit from this market. Prices are higher than other markets. There fruit mostly old and rotten. I bought the Duran at $6 dollars per pound, brought it home and open it, all rotten inside. I wasted over $30 dollars. Seriously huge refrigerated fresh produce section. It's also freezing. As with any Asian market, however, watch out for spoiled veggies/garlic. Other than that, it's pretty much what you'd think -- poorly enclosed fish and meats, various sauce smells, and a whole lot of durian create that unmistakable olfactory assault known as a Vietnamese supermarket. I don't normally associate Asian markets for cleanliness, but this place seemed a little *extra* dirty, though I can't really pinpoint why. Still, it does have everything that you would expect - seasonings, chili oils, frozen meats, even toiletries like off-off brand shampoo and toilet paper (note: do NOT buy the toilet paper. 3-ply? More like 3-LIES). All for pretty cheap, as well. Anyway, it's situated in the Grand Century Mall, and is pretty much the only supermarket in that area, so you're stuck with it. Maxim market is very well stocked. The workers will help you find what you're looking for if you ask. They have many brands of the same product if you're looking for a certain one. It's a good place to go to if you need to pick up groceries quickly. It's in the same plaza as Pho Ha and Bambu. read more

Just stepped into this new Asian market the other day. I've been here before Maxim took over and remodeled everything. At first I was sad the old market was closing down but I changed my mind once I stepped inside. The lay out changed and everything is a lot cleaner and more organized. Space looks more optimized as well. I don't do much shopping for groceries so I can't say much about the prices. But it sure is convenient for me to get sandwiches next door and pick up a few things at this market. read more

Previously Hai Thanh Supermarket, the new Maxim is much cleaner and more well-organized with a bigger selection of everything. Lines are short and quick. However, prices are much higher than the nearby Mi Pueblo (about .5 miles away). Always a good market for last minute needs if you're in the area, and if all the other grocery stores are closed during American holidays. read more

This is my neighborhood grocery store or at least if used to be until I ordered two pounds of tiger shrimp and found four rotten ones. I have never seen a rotten shrimp. And I literally almost threw up. We scoured the rest throwing away 6 large prawns. We washed the batch thoroughly and ate them well cooked. We are alive !!! The owner is nice and will order if you need something but the cashiers are shady and will ask u to leave your full bag with stuff at the counter after you paid, just because you want to purchase 1 more item. When you leave your bag at the counter, other customers will touch your stuff and if you aren't watching, the cashier will ring that item up for that customer leaving you with less items that you have already paid for!! There is one thing special about this market and it made me keep coming here. They sell fresh duck!!!! We all have seen pricey frozen duck at Whole Foods/Costco or even Ranch 99. Luckily, I first discovered it by accident. I was super glad that they sell the fresh duck in the meat fridge session. You do not need to defrost the fatty bird for at least half day. And I believe fresh ones also taste better. Price of the duck is almost 2/3 of what you pay at other places, even less than that. Other than that, it's a typical Asian Market, it smells and little unorganized. Most of people here speak Vietnamese only, so do not come here with too many questions. Also, check expiration date of perishable stuff you buy from here. They do not throw away expired stuff immediately. :) It's typical rule of all Asian market. :) I gave this place 4 stars for the fresh duck, otherwise it's average Asian Market. read more

I like this Asian market because it is SUPER clean compared to all other asian supermarkets that I have been to. Even the fish section seemed very clean. Staff at this location are also extremely nice and they speak good english. They have fresh vegetables and good quality fruits. If you want to go to a clean market to shop and you are in the San Jose area then you should go here. There is also plenty of good restaurants to eat inside the mall which is right behind the store. I love coming around this area because there is always a lot of good vietnamese food to eat. Parking is also not bad as well. Very impressed it was not dirty like all the other asian markets that I have been to. read more

Much more spacious than the Maxim on Capitol Expressway and cleaner than other Asian stores in the area. It took over the old Hai Thanh Supemarket that used to be here and thus far I can say Maxim is 100% better than Hai Thanh. Layout is much neater and price slightly lower than Hai Thanh's too. I have 3 times got trouble with this store. 1) Bought a big and expensive frozen squid. When I got home and unfreezing it, I found out it has been spoiled. 2) Bought 4 pounds of beef and asked them slice it for "ph". Then found out they cut it very thick like you make barbecue or "thit bò khô" 3) Bought beef and asked them make it to ground beef. Then I got a bag of spoiled ground beef. I love this store.
